We discuss with Danny and Derek their views of the current political landscape, what (if any) available alternatives there are to liberal capitalism, the Democratic Party shifting to calling their rivals "weird", how (if at all) Kamala and Trump differ on issues including Gaza, Ukraine, and the border, whether or not it is valid to not vote if there's no good candidate, and more.

This week, Alex is up at the lake, while nick had just returned from the lake. This week, we continue to struggle with our new concept of segments, producing two roughly 40 min halves where we talk about some of the same concepts and including sports and How Long Gone podcast guests. In the first half, we get more specifically into a rousing debate over the spectrum of quality in restaurants and the value of going to many new restaurants vs the same one many times. In the second half, we test out our new "podcast review" segment, where Alex tells of two podcasts he binged in the "slow pod week" produced by the holiday week, Serial Season 2 featuring the Bowe Bergdahl case mentioned on the Nate pod, and Who Shat on the Floor at My Wedding, an irreverent COVID-lockdown-era true crime pod "investigating" the titular question.
This week, we are joined by co-host/producer of the ~other~ TF (Trashfuture), Nate Bethea. Nate is also a co-host and/or producer on What a Hell of a Way to Die, Lions Led by Donkeys, and Kill James Bond, all podcasts in our regular rotation. Given his vast repertoire of podcasts, we spent a good amount of time getting into the weeds of it all, from doing research/showrunning on a pod, to the editing process (he is a producer, after all), to growing their following; whether its viral video content or utilizing existing networks or doing live shows. We also talk about his pathway to podcasting, from his (regrettable) article talking about his connection to Bowe Bergdahl and co-hosting a companion podcast to the Serial Season 2 about the case, to the present day, now having co-hosted a podcast about why not to join the military for 7 years. We finally get a little bit into his own preferred podcasts, from Boonta Vista, to a specific episode of The Nod, to NYT/Serial’s The Trojan Horse Affair, and touch on his decision to leave America and his experience/opinion on the politics of the two countries since.
In practice of our new “segments” format, we put (most of) the Boyz only talk at the end so you don’t have to skip thru it, but at that point we have a nice little discussion about sports, including the NBA offseason deals and Alex dropping a foul ball at the Mets game.
This week, as newly (re)minted professional podcasters, we decided to try a groundbreaking concept - segments. In this one on one pod, we start out by discussing this concept and its potential benefits, before getting right into our first segment, fashion. We came back with a long one after last weeks truncated ep. We just had to go in on that Succession finale, but before that we discussed MDW, Biden allowing Ukraine to get F-16s, Blue Origin getting tapped by Nasa, and more. When it came to Succession, we had to address the (hypothetical and real) betting odds, then gave a full (spoiler-filled) breakdown of the episode and our thoughts on it, before doing our best impressions of Brynn and Malaika from Killing Time by breaking down the characters' timepieces and the fact that the show brought on Hodinkee's Danny Milton to consult on S4.
Short one this week, TV Time consists of a breakdown of Succession and the Vanderpump Rules season finale where the "scandoval" finally comes out. We then get into last week's breaking rumors coming out of LA's Horses, before touching on the other viral twitter moment of the week, The Blue Couch.
