Status tells the human stories that immigration impacts.
Somebody might be in the US on an E-1, an H-1B, a J-2, or an F-1. They might be undocumented or they may have their green card. They might be moving to Canada for a job or to the UK to escape violence in their home country.
In any case, every immigrant has a story. We tell those stories and how the complex reality of immigration weaves its way into the narrative.
Status is produced by Matt Horton.
Over 2 seasons, Status told you the stories of how immigration policy really affects the lives of immigrants.
In the past few weeks, you saw the worst of those realities in horrifying images of separated families and detained children in the news.
In this final episode of Status, Matt goes to a protest and a vigil, and a few Status storytellers return to share their hopes for all immigrants in these difficult times.

Eddie entered the US through customs at 14, and he doesn’t remember much about it. He was more interested in seeing his mom who was being treated for cancer.
Then he met Tyler, and all of a sudden it was on him to prove exactly what he didn’t say on a random day in 2002.
Jonatan was the impetus for Status. This is the final part of his story. Hear how he and I met, fell for each other, and worked to maintain that love. And we learn once again that even in the most straightforward of cases, immigration gets messy.

Jonatan found a new home and a new family in the United States. Then he was told he had to return to Colombia. But it wasn't as easy as showing up and starting to work. He had to rebuild a life there.

Michael and Daniel have had to navigate being gay in 4 different countries. It's one of the many reasons they fell in love.
Michael was born in the Philippines, but he grew up in Sydney, Australia before his family moved to the US. Daniel spent his childhood in Peru and then moved to the States with his family at 19. This episode tells their stories of coming to terms with their sexuality, meeting, falling in love, and realizing how they masked their identities to stay safe as boys in their home countries.
