Last week at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon the endurance race was stopped. There had been controversy earlier in the day after the start of the race and the handling of the situation by the organising committee. The reason for stopping the event was a combination of heat, the condition of the track and the terrain. Dr David Marlin, was on site working for the FEI to advise on weather conditions. Here he recounts the events of the day and the reasons the race was stopped.
