Fortunato is born on the bayou of Biloxi MS because his southern belle mother refused to have a baby north of the Dixie line for fear of being shunned by her family back home. At the age of two Fortunato goes to Japan with his father and entered a Japanese life style with a Japanese step mother. They lived off base and he became fluent in Japanese.
