The Eden Ideal Team

Open and honest conversations about how we can work together to create a good world through practical application of the teachings of Jesus. We know it isn't always easy to understand these teachings, or even to see how they would create a better world. For example, what good would loving your enemies and praying for those who wish to do you wrong do? So we do deep dives into topics such as this and learn from amazing people who are living out these ideals in the real world. Hopefully in the process, we all learn something new which takes us one step closer to the Eden Ideal.

In this episode, we launch a new series to tackle an issue that really shouldn't be an issue - Food Poverty. Despite there being enough food being produced globally to feed 1.5x the population of the world, over 800 million people a year still suffer from hunger, malnutirition and food insecurity. When Jesus was on the scene in the flesh, he prioritised the hungry and instructed anyone who would follow him to do the same. So in this episode we attempt to understand this issue more and discuss specific actions which we can all take to tackle this issue. Our Mission: The Eden Ideal is on a mission to restore the 'Image of Christ' in our communities by shining a light on people doing just that, exploring God's heart for the world and then running special events where our community can come together to actively participate in serving those in need.

This is the second conversation in our series about restoring the image of God where we focus on how the image of God is restored in Christ and how we can now fulfil our core purpose to image God to the world through imaging and emulating Christ. We discuss the shocking surprise in how Jesus exercised his rulership and authority, where instead of seeking power, influence and social status, he sought after the lowly, poor and sick people, living and dying sacrificially for others. So in order for us to truly be his image we must also live sacrificially – this is our true worship.

In this episode we continue our series on Relationships discussing specifically how you stop yourself from becoming completely consumed with someone you are in a relationship with. We've all been there, in the early stages of a relationship it can be very difficult to stop yourself from only thinking about that special person. Should your partner become your one and only priority? Should your partner take precedence over your goals and ambitions? What is appropriate compromise?  This is part of our mission exploring how to live in God's Kingdom in a real and practical way across every aspect of our lives. Through this series we hope to equip people with tools to start to develop clarity on a vision and pourpose for their lives aligned to the Kingdom of God and practical steps we can all take to start to experience the good news of this new reality.

This is part one in a series exploring the importance of education in establishing God's Eden ideal. In this episode we introduce the concept by exploring if modern science and education are compatible with the bible and faith in general.  We discuss the purpose of the bible and whether it is intended for explaining how the universe works and hence in conflict with some of the theories supported by modern science.

In later episodes we discuss how education is one of the most effective tools for empowerment and speak to inspiring guests about how they are using education as a tool for advancement of God's ideals.

On this episode of the podcast we continue our discussion on the ideal of Love for Strangers. We go into a bit more detail about why we think this ideal is so important, showing how it is central to God’s purpose for humanity, and how in almost all stages of the biblical story, God was reminding the people of Israel to treat strangers amongst them with love, because they too were once strangers in Egypt.

The start of a new series on the ideal of Love for Strangers. The word stranger can be applied in many different contexts. In this series we’ll be focussing the discussion on how we relate to foreigners and those outside of our communities or country. In this, the first of three episodes, we talk a bit more generally about immigration and if as Christians we should have a specific stance on it one way or another.

This is the final part of our discussion on Generosity, in previous episodes we deconstructed our world view on wealth creation and distribution and built it back up based on our interpretation of the system we think God was trying to set up right from Eden.

However, unfortunately the reality is we live in a world system where your quality of life and your ability to be generous to others seems to be tied in with how much money you have. In this episode we explore how we can break this apparent dependence on money and position ourselves to maximise the contribution we can make into the lives of others.

We have a couple of guest friends of ours joining in the conversation to hopefully give us a different perspective.

In order for us to better understand how God expects us to be generous, we go back to the Garden of Eden to see what economic system he was attempting to put in place from the begginning and how we have currpted that. We explore the mindset that is required to live out this ideal as we prepare for the next stage in the conversation, where we explore practical ways to live out this ideal.

This episode is the start of a new series on Generosity. In a world with so many inblances in wealth and well being, this ideal is so important to help  with balancing the scales and ensuring prosperity for all. The question is, to what extent are we expected to be generous? Are some people expected to be more generous than others, and how do we practically live generously when most of us are struggling ourselves. We explore this and more throughout this series. This episode is the first in a four part discussion.  We start by trying to understand what constitues generousity by looking at some real examples and then put ourselves in the hot seat to uncover how generous we ourselves are. Through the conversation we realise that most of us in the conversation give the largest proportion to our charitable donations to our churches, we discuss why that is and ask ourselves whether we should be going further. In this episode, we introduce a new series on Truthfulness and explore how this often overlooked ideal is a fundamental building block for almost everything we do. Yet ironically, lying appears to be an unavoidable element of what it means to be human.

In this, the first of a three part conversation, we set the scene, exploring what a lie is, why people lie and the extent to which lying seems to be innate to every human being. This sets up future conversations where we'll discus what Jesus taught on this topic and why living truthfully seemed to be so important to him and then we round up the conversation discssing the practicality of actually living up to this ideal.
