On This Episode: Greg shares how we can address the biases we subconsciously bring to our conversations. Discover how to break down your subconscious bias. Learn how diversity can lead to increased business performance. Greg shows the two main categories of bias we should keep our eye on. Key Takeaways: Implicit bias comes from our experiences, cultural instructions, and even evolutionary history. Our experience does not always reflect reality. Every human being is affected by unconscious bias – it’s far easier to see it in others than in ourselves.

Your lifestyle has an influence on how you communicate on a daily basis. That is why in this episode I’m going to talk about 3 aspects of your lifestyle that need to be improved for you to have better communication.  The first aspect is sleep. You’ve probably heard this advice, but let me remind you again: Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep impairs your ability to think clearly and straight and might have long-term consequences in the future. Another aspect I will discuss is diet. Drink lots of water and eat healthy fats and green leafy vegetables to avoid inflammation in the body. Inflammation means more brain fogginess, which means you’ll not be as sharp as you would have been in a conversation.  Keep listening to know the food you should avoid or limit your intake of, as well as the last aspect I’ll be talking about. The last point involves moving your body for you to have a feeling of peace and calm.

Let’s listen to this episode and optimize your lifestyle!

Tweetable Quotes: “We all know that exercise is important. It doesn’t mean that you have to be in the gym, benching 250, or running marathons. Just 15 minutes a day getting your body moving on a  regular basis makes a huge difference.” - Greg Rice “If you’re in a bad mood and you're angry, your conversation with your wife is gonna be very different than it would have been if you came in happy and go-lucky or calm and peaceful.” - Greg Rice

Welcome back to another solo episode of The Art of Communication! Speaking from a personal experience, I have realized that learning how to read nonverbal communication is key to understanding other people’s true intentions and emotions. There’s so much that’s being said but is not expressed in words. More often than not, we don’t realize what’s actually being communicated to us because they only appear in the blink of an eye… or because we don’t just know how to read them.  What I’m going to discuss are practical tips to read nonverbal communication. Specifically, I will give you tips to understand micro-expressions, those split-second expressions that communicate our true intentions; list the rules of body language that help us understand the other person better; and share the connections between our tones and emotions.  Let’s listen to this episode and understand nonverbal communication better!  In this Episode: [00:01 - 03:47] Opening Segment I introduce our topic for today [03:48 - 08:05] Micro Expressions  Do micro-expressions tell our true intentions? Greg shares some amazing hacks for assessing personality through facial features. Why You're Able to Learn So Much From Facial Features: Your genetics feed into your facial structure and your personality. The perception of someones facial features feeds into their personality. Habitual patterns of expressions on the face. Basic Facial Reading Concepts: If they have bigger than average ears, they are more likely to be auditory. If their ears are lower than average, they’re more likely to perceive information faster. If they are higher, they likely perceive information slower. If their eyebrows are curved, they’re most likely a people person. If their eyebrows are straight, they’re more likely analytical. If their eyebrows are pointy, they’re more likely to desire control over a conversation. If their eyebrows are higher on their head, they are going to be slower to make decisions. If their eyebrows are lower, they’re more likely to be quick to make decisions and let people in. The closer their eyes are together, the more attention to little details they likely have. If their eyes are further apart, they may have more of a big picture view.
