Forget that dairy has powerful lobby representation, that the hormones dairy farmers use are controversial, that the food fed to dairy cows is controversial, that it's been proven the calcium in dairy doesn't have the bioavailability we've been led to believe ...

Dairy allergies (not just lactose intolerance) are a real issue for many.

In this episode we throw-down on why you should consider going "dairy-less" wherever possible.

In this episode, we get into one of our favorite macronutrients... the carb.

Often vilified, regularly abused, and certainly the most cherished of all macros.

Unfortunately - all carbs are NOT created equal.

How many carbs a day should you be eating? From what source? Can carbs hurt your progress? Should you eliminate all carbs?

Once you're armed with the right information you'll be much more successful at not only hitting your goals but learning how to co-exist with carbs moving forward.

In this episode, we're taking another crack at what the definition of lifestyle is and how you can pursue and attain an optimal state of existence.

We get it... we're gym people. Typically confined to the exercise, nutrition, and supplement spaces fitness people need to adapt just as much as the population we're trying to help does.

Once you know the areas in life that need attention (thereby establishing what's broken or busted) we can start to plan on how to evolve in certain areas. (spoiler alert - its much more than just what you eat and how hard you workout).

It’s more than just the absence of disease. It’s more than having a 6-pack, it’s more than being able to run for 60 minutes, it’s more than being “skinny”. True health should incorporate not only the physical, but the mental, and emotional aspects of the individual as well.

In this episode, we discuss how the ever-moving target of health and fitness has evolved over the past decade and for the most part left people confused and focused on “soft targets” that won’t lead to the state of health they are pursuing.

One of the biggest revelations we share with our clients is that "nobody expects you to be perfect".

If fact, it might come as a surprise to many but there is a way to drop the weight and keep it off with a lifestyle approach that lets you eat what you want - when you want. It's all about keeping your "boxes" in check (we'll get into what that means during the show).

In this episode, we're bringing a new way of thinking to the nutrition conversation. The principles aren't rocket science but the application will likely make your life easier if you're struggling to keep your nutrition approach "together".

You're not dead. Chances are you're not going to die ... not anytime soon anyway. The external world is pushing in on your mind, your spirit, and the ethereal sense of being that we were holding onto before the 'rona changed our world.

That's as bad as it's going to get though. You have to change. We have to change.

You can either try to resist it (and drive yourself crazy) or embrace the opportunity you have and find the silver lining in all of this.

It's the new year - you may have felt pressured to start a new year fitness program, kick some bad habits, or just get your sh*t together. There are two "waves" of fitness gypsies this time of year, the people that jump into a new "thing" without planning and structure and those that look for something else to do by the middle of January. The second wave people represent the bulk of people that really want to make change in the coming year but have initially chosen an incompatible path.

We also get into how to manage expectations. Not just expectations with your health but the expectations you have on your loved ones and the expectations they have on you. If you're looking to master your relationships, your health, and your future get in deep with what you expect of yourself and others.

Lots of folks work hard to hide their age. Mostly these are attempts to change the external image of one's self while downplaying or ignoring what's going on inside. Lifestyle, of course, can determine how rapidly we age (and how hard). It seems as if we like to pretend the process is limited to genetics but the stat shows we're more susceptible to outcomes based on choices rather than what mom and dad left us with.

In a society of tender feelings. Now you can't say something to somebody that's factually true. If truth hurts, you're not supposed to say it. I mean, it's cool to do every other kind of, you know, lie, but when you actually have to make somebody confront what's going on with them, calling somebody out on their crap, it's just not cool anymore. You know? So if somebody is living up, you know, if somebody is living a life that you think that it's putting them in danger, their own health and fitness, you're not allowed to point that out. We've got friends that, they always offer to help in business. They say "How can I help your business?" Like, well, if you can randomly, roll up to people and tell them they're fat and they need to go workout at my gym, go for it.

But that's never going to be welcomed. That's not gonna. That's not a conversation. And I can't really be like, Hey, do you know a John Doe? So he left your name and number and said that I should get in contact with you because you have a weight problem.

It's not enough to simply "sweat" anymore to get healthy. The model that's been pursued over the past decade is that if you're just "active" you'll get the body you want. How easily can you get distracted? We work so hard towards our "thing" that we can overlook what's most important in our lives Even worse, letting the little distractions in life pull us off our target and send us spiraling in the opposite direction. 😳

Too many times we see clients clinging on to a past that they're still desperately trying to live up to. What's difficult for us as fitness professionals, is to illustrate how the path ahead is brighter than the path behind. If any of these sounds like something you would say then the message today is definitely for YOU.

"I used to be a college athlete" - "I used to be a high school athlete" - "I used to be fit before I had kids" - "I used to bench XXX pounds" - " I can't ____ because I've always been heavy"

There is still relevance and application if you are holding onto the past for anything (not just a fitness status) and are unable to see your true potential.

Consistency is the hallmark of any successful transformation. The problem is, in our microwave society, consistency has a life-span of 2-3 months. After that, it's common to see most "dieters" enter a period of priority-reversal. Priorities shift. Discipline is out the window. And many end up where they started (or worse).

To be different you must train different, think different, behave different. Doing the boring uncommonly well.

In this episode, we review the keystones of living a boring (and shredded) life.

If your doctor has called you average you should be FREAKED OUT. Average today is fat, with high blood pressure, low insulin sensitivity, hormone imbalances, and according to a recent study, rapidly decreasing libido.

Committing to your health is the only way to NOT be average.

To be different you must behave differently.

To have a fit life with longevity there must be a sacrifice.

We dig into all this and more with episode 14 - you're going to love this one.

Low libido could be the least of your problems in the big picture of your overall health. Overexposure to toxins can lead to endocrine disruption, weight gain, brain fog, digestive issues, inflammation, low libido, fertility issues, developmental issues in your kids, illness, and even worse. You can minimize your exposure though and you might even be able to undo some of the damage.

But only if you know what you're looking for and how to mitigate it once it's there.

Management and leadership challenges exist everywhere - even more so in the small business space.

While a bad boss can wreck corporate culture being a bad employee can wreck the company's bottom line. There are some small tweaks that can be made to improve your work relationships. It starts by developing clear and concise expectations, leading by example, executing your duties to the best of your ability, serving everyone else's interests before your own, and being a team player.

The last key components to having awesome work relationships are initiative and integrity. Unfortunately, initiative is a rare commodity and integrity cannot be taught. Be sure your employee/boss has both before committing to working with them đŸ‘ŠđŸŒ

The reason you're fat ... and it might not entirely be your fault. While there are some conditions we can (and should) control there are some things that are working against us. Food addictions (not eating disorders) is a real thing that most overlook. What science has done to make food abundantly available is great BUT... they are largely to blame for metabolic disorders, endocrine system disruption, sleep disorders, weight issues, and the list goes on. We cover some tactics and approaches to getting to the bottom of it all on this show. đŸ‘ŠđŸŒ

“Lifestyle” has become a heavily overused term in the health and fitness space. Because there is so much psychology, persuasion, and influence required to truly inspire change in others it’s no wonder progress appears to have stalled.

While some people may see an “uptick” in behavior modification, maintaining a resolute position is only maintained as long as adhering to those behaviors is convenient.

In this episode, we’re going to review some of the most common lifestyle-sabotaging behaviors and give some strategies on how to implement long-term change for you and your family.

As always, the human head interferes with seemingly simple guidance. One of the bedrock commonalities among those that are able to maintain a healthy posture in life and those that don’t is honesty and discipline.

Keto diet? Low carb? High Protein? Banana diet (just like it sounds)? Potato diet? Apple vinegar diet (really)? đŸ€ąđŸ˜±

With so much, information/misinformation circulating in the health & fitness industry is it any wonder most of us struggle with which path to follow? Which GURU is right? What works best for your body? With over 60% of the population still categorized as overweight or obese, it's apparent a disconnect exists between those that have the information and those that need it.  Jenny & Brian share some history on what led us to our "current nutritional crisis" and how you can navigate the waters of fad programs, dieting, and developing a sound nutritional strategy.

Once you have your nutrition figured out - you'll never have to diet again. đŸ‘ŠđŸŒ

In this episode, we chat about the differences (and meanings) behind two of the most overly used and wildly misunderstood words in the industry. External and internal motivators can either be powerful allies or points of friction.

Truly understanding what drives our motivations (personal history, expectations, parents, etc.) is a key step in defining our goals and the path we'll need to take to get there.

Jenny & Brian will also share how you can use "motivation & mindset" in other areas of your life - beyond just fitness. Being able to dig deeper into where your motivations originate can help you develop a greater understanding into the complexity of others.

And for the record - trying to get Jenny motivated to run isn't going to happen. 😂

I finally get to introduce the better half to the show (Jenny) and share how we came to delve into the fitness industry together. Spoiler alert - Jenny never had an interest in fitness, being a trainer, or becoming a full-time fitness professional.

We turned away from a successful, well-compensated set of careers to embrace the opportunity to impact lives through fitness.

While the fitness business looks to be nothing but push-ups and pull-ups a good trainer is connected emotionally to his/her clients. The struggle is real 😂

From Tony Robbins, failing partnerships, struggling in business, to building one of the largest and fastest growing micro-gym communities in Northern Virginia.

And what's this Food Truck business??

I'm the guy who was happiest as the class clown but was told early in my adult life that if I wanted to succeed professionally I'd have to hide my goofball-self. Finding my way back to the fitness industry has enabled me to re-center "me" and get to doing what God had in store for me.

Fitness people are not put together well - there is almost always a backstory that drives us to pursue a lifestyle in the health & fitness industry. We touch a little on how I got here in this episode - full transparency - I'm just as conflicted, messed-up, challenged with life as the next person. 😂

Having some insight as to who I am, I hope, will show that my intention is to connect with you on a level you haven't seen from a fitness professional before.Â
