Listen With Mother: Recent Episodes

Joanna Swan

In series 1, actor and non-celebrity-autistic-person Joanna (Jo) Swan, rode out the COVID-19 crisis chatting remotely with her mother about family, life, work, dating and social situations and all things Gen X and Boomer that Millenials probably don't know and don't know that they want to know. But might once they know it.

In series 2, Jo has new kit, editing software and a home built booth, and with the sound presents dramatic readings of pieces out of copyright or written specifically for performance, kicking off with a piece assigned to her by a writer friend.

Welcome to my world of (hopefully not in breach of copyright) dramatic readings!

I retain the title of Listen with Mother because, if you're listening, you're probably in the company of my mother, who is my one guaranteed fan!

This week I continue to read St John Ervine's Organised Theatre (1924), and said author, while flying the flag for English theatre, holds nothing back in his ire for American critics. I hasten to add that the views expressed by Mr Ervine in no way represent my own!

This week I bring you some whimsy in the form of The Story of A Bedstead (anon) and some strong opinions via St John Ervine's Organised Theatre (1924).

If you have enjoyed and been entertained, and want to reach out and encourage me, I'm on twitter @swan_actor. Please be kind!

I add all the sound effects to my readings myself and source them from Freesound using the Creative Commons 0 Licence. Likewise I only select copyright free music.

Whither Listen With Mother? Since my last broadcast, I've set up a home recording studio and I'm working in audio, which leave me little time to chat with Mum ... seems like I need to consider an entirely new podcast series under a new title, or to give "Listen with Mother" new meaning!  Hear my brief musings on Voice Acting (VA), castings for female actors as "typical mums" , before enjoying my production of the monologue JUDITH by Burtie Welland.
