At least twice in her life, Lura Spears has experienced “I just knew” moments. The first happened when she was a young girl; Lura knew she would become an anesthesiologist. She came close. Working with a doctor as a nurse anesthetist, she learned about an opportunity to help patients and medical professionals in Haiti. Lura says, “I knew right away, it was something she would be part of for the rest of my life,: Lura and her business partner, Kelli Gable now give up weeks of personal and professional time every year to train nurses and provide other medical assistance in Haiti -- and they do it with little fanfare. While specialized treatment clinics have been established in North Dakota, the opioid addiction crisis continues to plague families and individuals. Heartview Foundation’s Drug and alcohol treatment and education program in Bismarck has made some essential changes in its opioid addiction treatment program. Cathy Palczewski, a recreational therapist, has introduced some of them -- including the use of essential oils for anxiety and pain.
