Dear Friends:
Over the last three years or so, I have slowly come to embrace the Law/Gospel distinction as well as Two Kingdom Theology. It is my conviction that these originate from Holy Scripture, and are held by some who are confessionally Reformed, especially in the Continental Reformed tradition. These tenets are also held by Confessional Lutherans.
We have not been members in any Reformed church since our move to Florida last year. During the last several months, I have spent considerable time weighing the claims of both Lutheran Theology and Reformed theology, in toto, against Holy Scripture. This has not been an easy journey or study. Reformed / Covenant Theology and its accompanying soteriology (TULIP), which I have called my own for about eight years, is a very logical, consistent, and reasonable position. However, Sola Scriptura is not always perfectly consistent with our reason. Therefore, I, along with my family, have decided to embrace Confessional Lutheranism, as we believe it to be the more Biblical, Christ-centered position, as expressed in the Book of Concord. We have begun attending, and plan to join, a Confessionally Lutheran church in Fort Myers, FL.
The ReformedCast podcast, located at reformedcast.com, will be discontinued effective immediately. Listeners may download episodes until June 15, 2014, at which time the MP3 episodes will be removed and the website shut down.
I have throughly enjoyed producing the ReformedCast during the last nearly 4 years now, and I really appreciate the listeners' comments and feedback. Some of my Lutheran friends have encouraged me to start a new Lutheran podcast. I certainly intend to do so later on this year, when I better understand Lutheran theology so that I may more intelligently discuss it on a level that a podcast host should.

Tyler Wigg-Stevenson is the founder and director of the Two Futures Project, and also serves as chairman of the Global Task Force on Nuclear Weapons for the World Evangelical Alliance. He is also the author of Brand Jesus: Christianity in a Consumerist Age, a contributing editor at Sojourners magazine, politics columnist at Relevant magazine, and a regular writer and speaker on matters of faith and public life. Tyler is an ordained Baptist minister with degrees from Swarthmore College and Yale Divinity School.
This week, we welcome back R. Scott Clark to the program to discuss law and gospel. Dr. Clark is professor of church history and historical theology at Westminster Seminary California since 1997, has also served as Academic Dean (1997-2000), and has also taught at Wheaton College, Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, MS, and Concordia University Irvine. He has been a minister in the Reformed Church in the United States and is presently a minister in the United Reformed Churches in North America. This week, we welcome Dr. Jay Budziszewski, author of the book The Revenge of Conscience: Politics and the Fall of Man. Dr. Budziszewski is professor of government at the University of Texas, Austin, where he has taught since 1981. He specializes in ethics, political philosophy and the interaction of these two fields with religion and theology. Budziszewski has written widely, in both scholarly and popular venues, about a variety of moral and political issues including abortion, marriage, sexuality, capital punishment, and the role of judges in a constitutional republic. His principal area of publication is the theory of natural law. J. Budziszewski received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1981, and is also author of the books Evangelicals in the Public Square, What We Can’t Not Know: A Guide, and Written on the Heart: The Case for Natural Law.

He is currently a pastor of the Heritage Reformed Congregation in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a position he has held for 20 years. He has been in the ministry for 28 years. Dr. Grudem is Research Professor of Theology and Biblical Studies at Phoenix Seminary after teaching at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School for 20 years. He has served as the President of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, as President of the Evangelical Theological Society (1999), and as a member of the Translation Oversight Committee for the English Standard Version of the Bible. He also served as the General Editor for the ESV Study Bible (Crossway Bibles, 2008). Dr. Grudem holds a PhD from University of Cambridge, an MDiv from Westminster Theological Seminary, and a BA from Harvard University.

His Ph.D. (1988) from Westminster Theological Seminary is in Reformation and Post-Reformation Theology. Dr. Payton Jr. earned a Ph.D. from University of Waterloo, Canada is a professor of history at Redeemer University College, Ancaster, Ontario, Canada. He has studied, taught and been in dialogue with Eastern Orthodoxy for many years and is the author of a number of articles on Orthodoxy and Protestant-Orthodox relations.
We w ill be joined by Dr. Richard Barcellos, and we’ll discuss his book “The Family Tree of Reformed Biblical Theology“. Dr. Barcellos received a B.S. from California State University, Fresno, an M.Div. from The Master’s Seminary, and a Th.M. and Ph.D. from Whitefield Theological Seminary. In 1990 he planted a church in Southern California and pastored there until July of 2006, when he relocated to Owensboro, KY, to become part of MCTS. He is the managing editor of Reformed Baptist Theological Review, author of In Defense of the Decalogue, and co-author of A Reformed Baptist Manifesto. He has also contributed articles to RBTR, Founders Journal, and Table Talk. Professor Barcellos is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and one of the pastors of Heritage Baptist Church of Owensboro, Kentucky.
We will have Dr. Michael Reeves on the program, author of the book “The Unquenchable Flame: Discovering the Heart of the Reformation.” We will discuss the book, and explore how Christians have lost interest in this important epoch of church history, the current resurgence of interest in it, and how the Reformation can be presented to those unfamiliar with the theological issues which sparked it. Michael is also the author of “The Breeze of the Centuries: Introducing Great Theologians – From the Apostolic Fathers to Aquinas.” Dr. Reeves is theological advisor for Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship (UCCF), a charity supporting evangelism in higher education throughout the United Kingdom. He was previously associate minister at All Souls Church, Langham Place and holds a doctorate in systematic theology from King’s College London.
This week, we will have Dr. Tremper Longman, III, author of “An Introduction to the Old Testament”, where we will discuss the importance of the Christian’s study and appreciation of the Old Testament. Tremper Longman III received his PhD at Yale University, and is the Robert H. Gundry Professor of Biblical Studies and the chair of the department of religious studies at Westmont College. He has authored or coauthored numerous books, including commentaries on Daniel, Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, and the Song of Songs.
This week, we will have Leland Ryken on the program to discuss his book “The Legacy of the King James Bible: Celebrating 400 Years of the Most Influential English Translation.” Dr. Ryken is a professor of English at Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL, and has served as a member of the faculty there for 40 years. He has also served as literary stylist for The Holy Bible, English Standard Version. Dr. Ryken is also the author of several books, including “Realms of Gold: The Classics in Christian Perspective”, “Translating Truth: The Case for Essentially Literal Bible Translation”, “The Word of God in English: Criteria for Excellence in Bible Translation”, “Wordly Saints – The Puritans as They Really Were”. Dr. Ryken also edited the “ESV Literary Study Bible”. Dr. Ryken received his PhD from the University of Oregon.
To kick off the new year, we will have on the program Dr. Joseph Pipa to discuss his book “The Lord’s Day”. We will discuss topic of the Christian sabbath in general and the various viewpoints on the subject today. Dr. Pipa is a graduate of Belhaven College and Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS, and received a Ph.D. from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Pipa was the Director of Advanced Studies and Associate Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary in CA. There he directed the Doctor of Ministry program and also taught systematic, historical, and practical theology on the Master’s level. He was also the pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in America in Escondido, CA. As of January 1, 1998, Dr. Pipa became the first President of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Greenville, SC. Dr. Pipa is the author of “Root & Branch”, “William Perkins & the Development of Puritan Preaching” and “The Lord’s Day”, in addition to being the editor of and contributor to “Did God Create in Six Days?”, “Written for our Instruction: The Sufficiency of Scripture for All of Life” and “Sanctification: Growing in Grace”.
This week, we will have as our guest David Lang, Vice President of Development for Accordance Bible Software. We will discuss trends in Bible software for both PC and Mac, the use of Bible software for pastors, modules available for Reformed Christians, and the industry’s competition of free and online software. We will also specifically discuss Accordance’s software for the Mac.
Dr. Guy Prentiss Waters will be our guest on this episode to discuss the doctrine of justification and its challenges in the Reformed community today. Dr. Waters is the author of several books on the subject: “The Federal Vision and Covenant Theology: A Comparative Analysis”, “Justification And The New Perspectives On Paul: A Review And Response”, and Justification: A Christian’s Pocket Guide to Being Made Right With God. Dr Waters is associate professor of New Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS, and holds an M.Div. from Westminster Theological Seminary (1998), and a Ph.D. from Duke University (2002). Dr Waters is also an ordained teaching elder in the Mississippi Valley Presbytery.
This week, we will have on the program Dr. Joel Beeke, and we will discuss the book he co-authored titled “Meet the Puritans.” Dr. Joel R. Beeke serves as President and Professor of Systematic Theology and Homiletics at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, as well as Academic Dean for students from the Heritage Reformed Congregations. He is also pastor of the Heritage Reformed Congregation in Grand Rapids, Michigan and has been for the past 20 years. He is also editor of the Banner of Sovereign Grace Truth, editorial director of Reformation Heritage Books, president of Inheritance Publishers, and vice-president of the Dutch Reformed Translation Society. He has written, co-authored, or edited fifty books and contributed over fifteen hundred articles to Reformed books, journals, periodicals, and encyclopedias. His Ph.D. (1988) from Westminster Theological Seminary is in Reformation and Post-Reformation Theology.
Dr. Darryl G. Hart will be on the program where we will discuss his book “The Lost Soul of American Protestantism“. Dr. Hart also wrote “Defending the Faith: J. Gresham Machen and the Crisis of Conservative Protestantism in America“, “Deconstructing Evangelicalism: Conservative Protestantism in the Era of Billy Graham” and “Seeking a Better Country: 300 Years of American Presbyterianism“. He has written over half a dozen books on church history and American evangelicalism. Dr Hart has served as Director of Academic Projects and Faculty Development at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute since 2003. He is also the former dean of academic affairs and professor of church history at Westminster Theological Seminary California, where he remains an adjunct member of the faculty. He is also an elder in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and lives in Philadelphia.
This week we will have David Murray on the program to discuss new media and its impact on Christians. David is co-host of the podcast “Connected Kingdom” with Tim Challies. Dr. Murray hosts a blog called “Head Heart Hand" and is president of Head Heart Hand Media, a new Christian film company. David holds an M.A. from the University of Glasgow, a diploma (equal to an M.Div.) in theology from the Free Church of Scotland College and a Doctorate of Ministry from Reformation International Theological Seminary. David is a professor of Old Testament and Pastoral Theology at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, and has a new DVD out called "God's Technology."

This week, we welcome Dr. R. Scott Clark to the program as we discussed his book "Recovering the Reformed Confession." We discussed what it means to be "Reformed", the aspects of being confessionally Reformed which have been lost, and how it can best be recovered. Dr. Clark is professor of church history and historical theology at Westminster Seminary California since 1997, has also served as Academic Dean (1997-2000), and has also taught at Wheaton College, Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, and Concordia University, Irvine. He has been a minister in the Reformed Church in the United States and is presently a minister in the United Reformed Churches in North America. He has served congregations in Missouri and California. At present, he is Associate Pastor of the Oceanside United Reformed Church in California, and also hosts the "Office Hours" podcast from Westminster Seminary California.
We will have Gregg Strawbridge on this week's program to discuss his debate with James White on infant baptism, and the baptism issue in general. Dr. Strawbridge holds a PhD from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, MS, and is the Pastor of All Saint’s Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, PA. He is author of the book "The Case for Covenantal Infant Baptism", and is board member and part-time secondary faculty at Veritas Academy.
