Violence against young people, especially women and girls is a grave violation of human rights.
Its impact ranges from immediate to long-term physical and mental consequences for young people, including death. It negatively affects their general well-being and prevents them from fully participating in society.
Violence not only has negative consequences for young people but also their families, the community and the country at large. This has tremendous negative effect ranging from greater health care and legal expenses and losses in productivity, impacting national budgets and overall development.
The republic of Ghana like every other country in Africa has many young people who face violence everyday, Hence They needs help physically, mentally and emotionally.
Asmau Yakub, a peer educator , a councellor who has worked with many young people in Ghana over the last 10years is our guest on this episode. Asmau is the executive director of Rayuwa Foundation, a Community youth led Non governmental organizations that works towards improving community well-being and eliminating violence especially those affected by girls and children.

It is always important to remember that girls are still faced with many challenges related to gender. They are often subjected to rigid outdated practices, such as child marriage. Girls who marry before age 18 are often denied access to education and are vulnerable to violence from their husbands.
According to a UNESCO report in 2013, 31 million girls of primary school age were not in school and about one out every four girls in developing countries did not complete their primary school education.
These statistics are staggering and they are not just mere numbers. They represent a pool of untapped girl power and potential. They represent what the state of our community would look like in years to come.
In my country, Nigeria, girls’ education is improving but it remains a challenge due to number of factors. Early pregnancy, gender-based violence and child marriage continue to increase the rate at which girls’ dropout of school.
30% of the girls in Nigeria often get married as early as age 15-19. This, coupled with other pressing factors, prevents many girls from getting an education in Nigeria.
The challenges girls face are disturbing and need longstanding solution. It is crucial to know that education for a fundamental right for every girl child.
So, what can you do to help girls in your community develop the courage, confidence and character they need to be tomorrow’s leaders? What can you do to save their RIGHT to education from being trampled upon?
These coupled with many questions would be answered on this episode!
On this episode, I would be discussing with Oluwatobiloba Ajibade, the executive director of Priceless Virtues international on importance of girls’ education and what her organization is doing to harness the potentials and strength of the girl-child through education for individual and societal impacts.
In growing children, limb deformities of the legs, including bow legs and knock knees, are among the most frequent causes for a visit to the paediatric orthopedist. In many cases, the deformity corrects naturally. However, in those cases where the condition persists or the abnormality becomes more pronounced, medical attention is required.
In Nigeria, many children stay Out Of School Because They Are LIMBLESS. Many of these children and their families face different challenges daily; ranging from the society stigma, the perspective of people towards them etcetera, which sometimes leads to low self esteem and suicide. Hence, there is a need for encouragement and a support system to keep people with limb deformities moving.
With me on this episode is Crystal Chigbu, the Executive director of The Irede Foundation, a non-governmental organization that is dedicated to saving lives of children living with limb loss in Nigeria as well as being a support system for them.
Crystal has a personal story which is connected to why she started the organization and we are very sure that you would love to hear that.

One in every five of the world’s out-of-school children is in Nigeria. Even though primary education is officially free and compulsory, about 10.5 million of the country’s children aged 5-14 years are still not in school. Only 61 percent of 6-11 year-olds regularly attend primary school and only 35.6 percent of children aged 36-59 months receive early childhood education.
In the northern of the country, the picture is even bleaker, with a net attendance rate of 53 percent. Getting out-of-school children back to school poses a massive challenge.
We read in the newspaper, we listen in the news different figures about the total number of out of school children in Nigeria, – figures like, 10.2million, 13.5million, over 10million and lots more.
What baffles me is, Instead of amplifying the figures, what are actually doing to reduce the alarming figures.
Not waiting for the government but we as individuals, what are we doing to reduce the number.
- Have you ever thought of sending that little boy or little
- girl roaming about in your environment back to school?
- Have you ever questioned that boy hawking on the street
- during the school hour why he is not in school?
These are questions we as an individual, have to answer. With questions me and you as an individual has to answer
regarding out of school children in Nigeria, Don’t be surprised there are some people answering the questions and proffering solutions in their own little way.
With me on this episode is Chike Ibezim the founder of Mil Vision Foundation, an organization whose goal is to send out of school children in Nigeria back to school.
As a developing nation that is striving hard to locate a better position to place herself on the global map of committee of nations, it is important that Nigeria at every point review its educational system.
It does not matter how it is done, What matters is there must be a total revamping of our educational system so as to hone the skills inherent in our students starting from the primary level to the university level and make them move at the same speed with counterparts of the same level of Education from other parts of the world.

With her organization, Bramble Network, she focuses on the physical, emotional, mental and social development of children living in rural communities of Nigeria. Odunayo believes education is a tool for social integration and if delivered in a manner that makes learning fun and engaging; is able to change the status of every child.

With 65 million Nigerians illiterate, it is time for government, schools and individuals to take action. In 2015, the results of a UNESCO survey was released which showed that despite improvements to the country’s education system, yet 65 million Nigerians remain illiterate.
This statistic is alarming for a number of reasons. As a matter of fact, Illiteracy has adverse impacts at both an individual and societal level.
People who are illiterate are far more likely to live in poverty, facing a lifetime marred by poor health and social vulnerability.
Economically, the impacts of illiteracy can never be overemphasize; workplace productivity, unemployment rates and even national GDP are all affected by a country’s literacy levels.
With the alarming number of illiterate youths and adults in Nigeria, a Volunteer project of SPELLAFRICA Initiative – B2S Adult Literacy has took up the responsibility to transform for free, the lives of over 65 million adults in Nigeria to read & write out of extreme poverty.
Since its inception in 2016, the organization has transformed the lives of over 200 youths and adults to read and write, and still counting.
We visited the SpellAfrica B2S Adult Literacy center in Lagos state, Nigeria to witness what they’ve been doing over the years.
We spoke with Mr Erezi Edoreh, the Director of SPELL AFRICA INITIATIVE and the highly esteemed volunteer teachers at the literacy center that are working ceaselessly to transform the lives of illiterate youths and adults in Nigeria.
There was an era where the trust in the social space was strong and not to be doubt of, there is an era where all donation raised by a nonprofit or nongovernmental organization are being used for its primary purpose.

There comes a mobile application, UYOLO!
On the 9th of June 2018, our organization , Media For community change initiative became an official partner of UYOLO, An organization based in Milan, Italy that promotes philanthropy and volunteering. With their mobile app which was launched on the 15th June 2018, that serves as the first social media that has all the 17 SDGoals in one mobile application, they aim to connect the dots and establish a trustworthy relationship between NGOs, NPOs, CSOs and donors from different part of the world. The app is available on Google play store for android users and apple stores for iPhone Users.

The episode 20th featured Abigail Ekiotenne,founder & CEO of Girls Impact Network, a non governmental that focuses on empowering girls child and reducing the rate of girls child abuse in Africa.
The recent increases in the different forms of child abuse, exploitation and suffering in Africa is extremely distressing. Under the disguise of tradition and poverty, African children continue to be exploited, oppressed and abused by so-called adults whose job it is to protect them.
With that being said, this act of girls child abuse have captured the attention of governments, institutions, and organizations like the United Nations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), of which Frantic efforts are being made to arrest and proffer solution to this problem.
Out of the non-governmental organization doing trying and working ceaselessly to address this issue is Girls Impact Network and they focuses on teaching values and morals, media literacy, self-esteem and leadership. They believe that through mentoring, girls can reach their highest potentials.

The rate of girls child abuse in Africa is undoubtedly at an alarming rate. According to a report by trade union Solidarity Helping Hand, it is said that One child is raped in South Africa every three minutes, and one in four men admits to raping someone, with 40% of boys believe forcing someone to have sex is not an act of violence.
And, According to a recent ILO report, it is stated that an estimated 60 percent of sex workers in Italy are mainly from Nigeria. In the words of Meera Sethi of the International Immigration Organization, She said that Africa has become a “supplier of fresh flesh” for countries in the European Union. Sethi said Belgium, Britain, and Italy receive the youngest African girls, while Germany and Spain are major transit countries.

Our last episode featured Judith Obi, the Founder, and Executive Director of Africa Education Aid For Development Network, a non-for-profit organization which is based in Lagos, Nigeria, West Africa.
The organization which was founded in the year 2014, was founded primarily to help provide quality education for underprivileged and displaced children and youths in Africa by increasing children’s access to quality education through integrated programs that eliminate the underlying obstacles which prevent children from going to school and learning.
With Members in Uganda, South Africa, Tanzania and other African countries, they are creating a network of young people doing exceptional things in their communities, Their belief is that their little but collective efforts will amount to the change we all want to see in Africa.
The organization also aim at using education as a tool create awareness, advocate and intervene on various societal challenges including girl child education, ending conflict and violence in society and youth empowerment.
In the last episode, Judith talked about how and why she started the organization, their projects so far and how they’ve been contributing their own quota to ensuring quality education to children in the rural communities.

The general picture for education in Africa is one of ongoing progress and constant challenges. While no African country has achieved universal primary education, the number of children enrolled in primary school more than doubled between 1990 and 2012, according to “The State of Education in Africa Report 2015,” which was published by the Africa-America Institute. Yet in 2012, the average pupil-to-teacher ratio in primary school was 42 to 1, unchanged since 1999. In terms of higher education, enrollment more than doubled between 2000 and 2010 – with 50 percent more students per professor at African universities compared to the global average.
African education needs more of everything – more schools, more trained teachers, more investment. Certainly greater participation by the private sector and strengthening public/private partnerships would assist governments and bolster public sector funds to finance Africa’s public education system.
Africa is the youngest continent, with 200 million young people between the ages of 15 and 24, the Africa-America Institute reports. By 2040, Africa will have the world’s youngest labor force. Young people in Africa need jobs and a positive outlook for their lives ahead. They need to realize their vision and to lead Africa forward. A quality education is a foundation and the essence of their future.
With that being said, Non-governmental organizations have stood up in the different part of the African continent to contribute their own quota and make things right for the African child.
Out of these organizations doing fantastically well is AFRICA EDUCATION AID FOR DEVELOPMENT NETWORK, a non for profit organization which is based in Lagos, Nigeria, West Africa.
On this episode, I will be speaking with Judith Obi, the executive director of the organization, a young change maker and an amazing lady!
Episode 15 features Femi Royal Aliu, the co-founder of Royal Foundation International, a nongovernmental organization which was established in October 2013, is a youth-led organization with the commitment to grow the economy while reducing the scourge of unemployment and poverty in the western part of the African continent by promoting individual effectiveness and wealth creation.
On this episode, Femi Royal shed more light on where we are getting it wrong when it comes to leadership in Afica and why sometimes Africa is referred to as country not continent.

Our last episode features Mr. Mugisho Ndabuli, the Co-founder and Executive Director of COFAPRI,
Congolese Females Action For Promoting Their Rights and Development.
On this episode, My guest Mr Mugisho will be talking about how his organization COFPARI was able to worked for the past 8years being a non-for-profit organization till the extent that they reached 30 different villages in rural community of DR Congo.
And most importantly, how He was able to run the organization effectively coupled with international and local responsibilities and of course his family responsibilities.
COFAPRI works to give a voice to the women and the girls of the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC.
COFAPRI was set up in 2009 by husband and wife team, Mugisho Theophile and Bahati Valérie, to empower women and girls, educate them about their rights, and to empower them through encouraging income-generating activities such as the rearing of livestock.
COFAPRI works closely with local leaders and encourages men’s participation in awareness-raising events in order to raise the status of women and girls and change ingrained cultural attitudes.
COFAPRI currently operates in 36 villages located on different hills. On the first session of our interview session with Mr Mugisho Ndabuli, the Co-founder and Executive Director of the organization, he talks on

On this episode, I had an interview session with the Founder of the foundation, Olorunmola Victoria, a graduate from the department Mass communication from Bowen University,Nigeria.
While on conversation with Olorunmola, she shared some fact about sickle cell which got me thinking.
Among the recommendations, she gave for the prevention is that carriers should not marry AS or SS, education about inheritable nature of the disease. She stressed the need for public education to determine genotype, so that incompatible people do not fall into love let alone marry each other.

Who is Prince? Prince is a Social Development Practitioner who is passionate about Quality Education, Youth Development and Environmental Sustainability. He founded Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative (AREAi), a non-profit volunteer-driven education focused organization with a vision of providing quality education for children in geographically marginalized communities. AREAi’s impact has spanned across various communities in Nigeria, directly reaching more than 7 schools and has provided infrastructure, educational supplies, basic school items, scientific equipments, potable water source, after school mentoring sessions and supplementary learning classes to over 2000 children.
Some weeks ago, I’ve an amazing interview session with Prince in his mansion (lol), of which I enjoyed every bit of my session with him. While on chat with Prince, I asked Prince the question that has been bothering my mind for months, which goes…. “Is Quality education a taboo is Africa? Because 70-80% of the country in Africa are clamoring for, and waiting calmly to experience this so call education. This latest episode features Miss Lola Nkem Odeniyi, The team lead of Heart Connect Initiatives, An NGO which focus on resolving Gender Based Violence and raising peace keepers. Who am I talking about? the indisputable Mr Omoyele Isaac Success. On this episode, Mr Isaac shared his passion for the children in the remote area, he speaks with the true passion for this children, he shared with me the strategy his organization uses in helping this children and how they want to help them more. You really need to hear from him as I won’t be the only one to feel his burning passion.
