This podcast is a deep dive that combines two aspects - personal journaled thoughts and conversations with God and interviews with guests based on those journal entries. Each episode focuses on the valleys of life, processes used to walk about of that darkness. We cover questions birthed out of those valleys and how God's tangible presence helped each guest walk to their peaks. What's Your Amor is hosted by professional athlete Steven Benedict.
In this episode I had the extreme pleasure to chat with Jeneba Young. She is an Olympic gold medalist, she was a professional track and field athlete sponsored by Nike. She is currently a marriage and Family therapist working catering to African American children, families, premarital and marriage counseling, and single black women in California. She is married and has a beautiful 10 month old daughter and is making an impact one family at a time directly from her own vast story. https://www.instagram.com/jenebasylvia/

At the core of believing
in ourselves is the desire to
be in control.
However if we attempt to live
life solely believing in ourselves
we will be trapped by discouragement ,
fear, anxiety and worry.
Try harder. Work more.
Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps.
These messages clamor loudly in Western culture. But the Bible tells us that resilience is not a matter of trying harder. It is built through training wisely---taking up certain disciplines that help us grow in grace.
We need to make an alliance with ourselves no matter what comes our way, no matter what missteps we take .
The only thing that matters is to just take one more step. One more step.
Listen in as we take this next step together!

Words kill , words give life;
They’re either poison or fruit- you choose.
-Proverbs 19:21
Today's topic is a two fold subject that inevitably coincides with each other. And with everything going on in today's world they are at the core of the causes to our effects.
It is our speech and our actions.
At some point in our lives, we have all said something
we wish we hadn’t.
For some of us, this has happened more often than we’d like to admit. It could be something as embarrassing as uttering a social faux pas, or something as hurtful as lashing out against a friend or loved one.
In an age where social media runs rampant , it could take the form of an offensive joke, or an angry comment with the intention to be noticed.
In a society that grows increasingly hostile, learning to become better listeners is a vital and rare commodity these days. Let's explore how to do so in this episode.

In this episode we explore those ever so subtle seasons of doubt. So, if you find you’re like me and sometimes you doubt that God will come through in your current situation. You’re not alone, you are in good company because God has us.
Listen in on how there were countless stories before us going through the same things even in the mists of miracles happening all around them.

Without proper execution we miss the mark on not only the opportunities at hand but close the door to what could be a life of endless possibilities.
Have you ever wondered why you could look at two people and one you would say he or she has a lot of gifted abilities and another that may not be so gifted but yet they are well more successful in life than the other?
This is a common thread in many circles. I know I’ve seen it over and over within the athlete space. I’ve really narrowed it down to one core factor…. Execution, application or carry through.....
Learn why this is important in our walks with God and living in a way in which we can see the fruits of his grace in our lives.

Expectation always produces some sort of action within us and without action faith becomes stagnate.
Actions are the answer to keeping your faith alive. To make sure your expectations find the outflow they need for God to show up big in your circumstances.
Everything we do is shaped by the expectations we carry.
If we expect to be promoted or rewarded, that expectation will drive us to work harder. If we expect to always lose or never catch a break, that expectation will drive us to give up or shut down.
In this episode,we explore what it means to have active faith and what needs to be done to keep it flowing and not stagnate.

One of the secrets to be defiantly joyful Is that it has nothing to do with the circumstances of What’s going on in your life Or your world. We have been conditioned to think that Joy Is a response to something or a set of favorable circumstances. And when we consider joy as an emotion it becomes fleeting, Fickle and temporary. Thus leaving us Feeling incomplete and frustrated. Truth of the matter is that it is not an emotion it can be produced when you need it on a daily basis, that's why it is one of the fruits of the spirit. And that fruit can nourish your mind, your body and your heart and soul. Sometimes being a joyful person in this crazy world seems impossible. Well then, let the impossible commence.

While opinions may be important to our individual
Well being, it's a lot more effective to bring people our love to convey the truth.
When we share knowledge with love it can foster vision in others and strengthen the bond of relationships. This deepens your own knowledge and becomes an act of great service for all who receive it.
So here’s the thing. We all have a lot of opinions. I know I do. But it’s a lot more effective to bring people our love. How can we do that effectively?
Listen in as we explore great ways to add to others and not tear them down.

When no one is willing to compromise the answer becomes hurt and division which robs us of the very thing we were built for…. Community.
It’s funny how we humans work isn’t it. On one hand we value relationships so much and thrive when we are involved in them and on the other all it takes is one wrongly timed word or an unintentional action and poof split and division takes root.
In this episode we dive into understanding compromise and what happens when we are unwilling to do so because we maintain a guarded position. Which brings us to the question being answered: being guarded and guarding your heart are two vastly different experiences.
We are having grown up conversations in this one!

A true persons character shines through when vulnerability is leading and the need for social approval has been detached from who and what they really are.
In this episode we take a deep dive into the aspects of character development.
How do we really know when we are being presented with authentic personality and clear motivations extending from genuine character?
And how to focus on unchangeable truths that allow us to discern consistent and inconsistent traits that contribute to people's daily persona.

Confidence by definition is the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something. What happens when that oh so belief or faith is stripped of you through life situations? How do I gain it back? How do I learn to trust again? These are just some of the questions Cody Allen faced while trying to find his way without a strong male presence early on. Listen to the shifts that took place that led him to helping others see that confidence can be fleeting but only if we rely on who we were without being brave enough to step into who we can become. Your words don’t take you somewhere You never wanted to go; they amplify Something your heart wants. Do you remember the game where you follow the leader as a kid? Someone would be out in front and you had to do what they did, say what they said or you were out. It’s clear that our heart posture dictates every direction in which and how we speak to others. That means if your words are the followers you have to be the leader.
In this episode we explore the nuances of our words following the lead of our hearts. How our belief systems are the root extensions of our heart posture. As well as the right questions we should be asking ourselves in order for better responses to occur.

The power of testimony brings light to those that might be walking in a very dark season but you hold the torch. In this episode I talk about the three different types of testimonies. Where our focus needs to remain and how delivering our testimonies to the world is vital for exactly what the gospels stand for. Our greatest pains in life end up producing our greatest salvations. That is where our testimonies are written to be lived out. In the end our testimonies are meant to lift others through God works in each of our lives. It’s His presence that needs to be passed on and reminded of. Not remaining as we were but who we become in the process.

We all have a fight, an assignment and a race to run. Many times that fight hits us so hard we don't know how to get back up. This episode we connect with welterweight champion Stuart Warren Dansby and the hits he has taken and how they have shaped him as a man and his walk with God. Stuart says, "I believe in a concept in life and business called Servant Leadership. It’s how to lead others by serving them. It’s founded in leadership by example but it’s also about egoless understanding the goal of the greater good and working to help everyone achieve. Just because we’ve been hurt in the past doesn't mean we should shut others out or shut down our hearts.
It's not easy, especially when we feel like others don’t deserve our forgiveness for what they’ve said or done.
This is how we justify our feelings by withholding forgiveness from them but in reality what is that approach really doing?
In all actuality all it does is store more anger, bitterness, sadness and resentment. Causing internal conflicts within ourselves.
What forgiveness really does is it gives us the freedom to move forward from our pain, to grow and learn from that experience by not carrying their shortcomings but rather carrying what is ours into an upgraded version of ourselves for future relationships.
That means surrendering our need to want to lash back out from a place of hurt and letting God take care of them as He continues to take care of you.
We don't need to seek our own justice. God will be our justice seeker.
How free do you want to be?
Before you step into a situation, look in the mirror at your own heart and see if you are not the problem.
We are all amazing at avoiding things. But what happens when avoiding turns into consistent running from issues that are inevitable to repeat history in our lives?
Usually when we are facing areas in our life that seem to be out of immediate control we try to tell ourselves well this part of my life is amazing and epic so I’ll just stay over here and if that other part shows up, I’ll just numb it with something else.
You see the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
Our minds and body want to run from everything that is uncomfortable , painful and difficult in every moment. Which seems like a great strategy for temporary band aid issues for relief.
But in fact what these types of continuous decisions do is conform us to a life of running.
And if we keep on the run we never learn to deal with what’s inside or right in front of us. This being at the mercy of our fears and strong holds.
God is the card dealer
He already knows what we each hand holds,
it is our job to share each of our hands with...

-trust
-vulnerably
If our individual relationships with God are lacking how do you think
that will be portrayed within our relationships with our partners.
When someone doesn’t show up for you or knows how to love you
well it's really not about you. It’s the piece that is unfilled in their relationship
with allowing God close enough to those areas of their heart.
Luke 16:10 - He who can be trusted with a little can also be trusted with a lot. True leaders don't think well if I had more authority I could accomplish more. Leaders lead with authority or without it, the authority piece is largely an irrelevant factor in the equation. What do we do while we are waiting for our turn to lead?
Psalm 139:23-24 "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" One of the hardest things to do as humans is to examine ourselves. It takes a brave individual to look in the mirror every morning and ask tough questions, nevermind to ask God to test our hearts. Life's model is for growth and when we settle for just our current status of being Christ like we greatly hinder our spiritual growth. Thus not living to our greatest potential. In this episode we explore how self examination is the key to understanding who we are personally and intimately in relationship with God.

God often asks us to do the impossible. Why? Not because He knows we can accomplish it in our own strength but rather to have us depend on Him to carry us through the finish line. He loves to show off in our lives and build our confidence in knowing we can't lose. How is your faith being stretched in this season?
We crowd our lives with other things. We fill our lives with stuff and jam pack our schedules with to do lists and overbook out lives with mund errands. Then we ask ourselves why can't we hear God clearly or see Him working when He's always involved in our lives.
Everyday we have an invitation to answer a knock at the door to invite God into our lives and choose His ways over ours, all He asks is for us to make room for Him as He has always done for us.
We live our lives moving forward but we understand our lives looking back. We get to see how God has protected us and prepared us for exactly where we are now, but more importantly where He has planned for us to be!! https://www.instagram.com/drjonstevens/
Worry is our inability or unwillingness to trust God. At the core issue of worry we ask ourselves will God do that for me in my life? In this episode we explore how looking in the rearview mirror serves as a powerful reminder of where and when God has shown up and continues to do so. We weren't born to be worriers, we were born to be warriors.
In this episode I share some insight to my most recent conversation with God.
He said "Release control my son, it's not yours" When we cling to the need for control we feed stress, anxiety and tension. Jesus offers us freedom from all of us, but the catch is.... Listen to how I approached this conversation and what is gained when we lay it all down at His feet.
In this episode we hear a powerful story from prophet seer Jenna Winston as we explore what it means to trust God's character when we are walking in the Valley. No two journeys are the same and I promise you the wisdom and life experience Jenna holds is no less than a walking miracle. To find more out about Jenna and all she does visit her website as her favorite question to ask is , "How Free do you want to be?" https://www.heartscaping.co
It's easy for us to adopt a false narrative when we believe life is happening to us but that is just living from a human perspective. God's perspective is that life is happening for us. In this episode I take a deep dive into my own story and put myself on the chopping block of how the very real experiences going through the foster care system shaped a narrative of an abandonment, fear, loss and lack love mindset to God rewriting a story of victory as He so often loves to do. Our stories are our training grounds to build relationships and draw us closer to Him and to become more like God. He has no interest in being like us, so thank God for that! I speak about His vision He gave me about my book of life and how each of us have a choice to allow Him to write profound words upon our hearts or we can continue to implement a messy canvas. This is God's invitation to us daily. So the question becomes "What narratives have we adopted along the way that are not God's truths about us? Are we willing to lay down our story for a greater story, He wants us to walk in with Him? May is foster care awareness month and my new book "Good Morning Superstar" is all about setting the tone for your day and helping you reshape how we look at things that arise in our lives. The best part is that all the proceeds go to impacting foster families and aging out youth to help them sustain in uncertain times. www.stevieyb.com https://www.amazon.com/Good-Morning-Super-Steven-Benedict/dp/0578762838/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=good+morning+superstar&qid=1620343230&sr=8-2
