Hello and welcome to Free and Figuring It Out.
Free and Figuring It Out is a weekly podcast hosted by two Brits, Charelle Griffith and Verity Brown, on a mission to support, empower and reassure fellow independent, millennial women that they can be self-sufficient, successful and seen.
Expect no fluff, just to the point chat on topics that matter with a healthy dose of #firstworldproblems thrown in.
After almost 3 years of recording Free and Figuring It Out we have decided to hang up our headphones, put our mics back in their boxes and say goodbye to this chapter of our lives!
We talk about…

Whether you haven’t had chance to listen yet or you have listened and felt a little overwhelmed, you are in the perfect place as this episode guides you through the juicy parts of each interview with the experts.
This series was months in the making and we are extremely proud of what we have creating and it is thanks to our brilliant guests that we could make this possible. “Our family of women were at the heart and soul of the brand, beginning with our grandmother Eva who was not only a pioneer in professional-grade skincare, but a dominant force in our lives. When our grandmother retired, she passed on the business and work ethic to our Aunt Lori and Greg’s mom Lisa, who are our mentors. Today, we continue our family’s legacy, which shapes our standard for innovation.”
In this interview filled with brilliant insight and great advice we discuss...
We finish the interview by asking Greg our quick fire guest questions!

In this week’s episode we try and figure out…
Charelle and Verity have been using Zoom for years - they even record every episode of Free and Figuring it Out via Zoom Video - so they thought it would be handy to chat about this new discovery for most of the population.
Have you tried to do a virtual gym class yet? Did you have a 37 minute phone call with your Mum helping her download it to your phone? Have you discovered the mute all button yet?
We discuss the beauty of the 40 minute webinar limit and those buggers that click on the “Extend your time for free” button that pops up. It’s also very interesting people’s approach to using the platform and whether they make the same effort as they would if you would see the people on the call in person. Verity discusses her new love affair with her baby pink pashmina.
Did you know you can record Zoom? And that there is a “beauty” filter? Have you tried Zoom backgrounds?
Charelle allows us into the world of her online, video call dates including how much makeup you wear, if you have a glass of wine by your side and how you finish the date when there is no bus to run for (spoiler, order takeaway to be delivered!). We chat whether Zoom dating will continue post-pandemic and if more international relationships will blossom because of it.
We finish off by discussing loneliness, making effort with families and how the world of virtual connection for the masses will change the way we communicate forever.

In this week’s episode we try and figure out…
Verity and Charelle decided to talk about their routines and more specifically the times they wake up and go to bed.
Verity is a natural 6.30am riser (and this is a fairly new thing to her) whereas Charelle lives by the Cinderella clock and makes sure she is in bed before midnight.
Do you have a morning routine? Do you have an alarm clock? Do you force yourself to wake up early as you feel you should?
Verity was naturally a night owl but since attracting a partner and losing bedroom curtains she now happily rises with the dawn chorus. Charelle is used to 1am bedtimes due to her job and has built her routine around a full-time job and side-hustle.
Do you wake up at the same time every day; weekends included? Does your environment or who you live with affect your bedtime? Have you read The Miracle Morning?
We discuss how important sleep is and how we do need to listen to our own cycle and what works best for us. Also what you do with the first hour of your morning could be more important than the actual time you wake up. We look at evening routines and they could be the secret to a great night's sleep and an alternative for night owls.

In this week’s episode we try and figure out…
We turn a real-life conversation into a podcast convo and discuss whether female friendships work as a three or if it’s just a dynamic that works best on the screen? Charelle begins to discuss the world - in a practical sense - simply isn’t built for 3’s. 2 fine, 4 no problem, 3 I don’t think so! An experience she had led to her emailing a company asking if they realised if women come in power 3’s when there was no convenient table for them to sit at.
Is there a danger in a friendship of three that two are closer and the other is an add on? Verity explores how her opinion on this has changed in her 30s vs her 20s. We discuss how natural competition can turn into beautiful complementing of personalities. Have you ever joined a two to make it a three? Hello third wheel!
We discuss the formation of friendships of three’s and the beauty of the organic process of it. Do you have more one on one’s or a few big groups? Verity discusses how at her 30th birthday barely anyone knew each other because she brought all her single friendships together. We look at the rawness of a three in that you are always all present with each other rather than a larger group which can split conversation-wise during times together.
Have you been part of a three where there is a leader? How does location/ having babies/ getting married/ being single have an effect on a three friendship? Are all your trio friendships female only? Are you surrounding yourself with people who will help you excel in the areas that are important to you? We delve into all the important stuff with this topic.
We had a couple of sound issues during this episode so apologies in advance for that.

This week we are helping you figure out…
Supporting friends with mental health challenges
Protecting your own head during COVID19.
Charelle and Verity chat to multi-award winning Mental Health Awareness blogger, Jessica Ward. Starting as an online private diary - until it was discovered by a school friend - when she was a young teenager, Jessica recorded her thoughts and feelings as a way to process and reflect on the bullying she was experiencing. From an exercise addiction to depression to deciding to be homeschooled, Jessica discusses the journey she took as a teenager which led her to her positive outlook on life now.
At 16 she got into her first relationship where she experienced mental abuse, leaving that in 2017 to go on to win some great awards for her blog. We discuss how you can get lost within a relationship, having control issues and eating disorders. We delve a little deeper into difficult relationships - both romantically and platonically - and discuss managing our mental health in these situations.
We chat social distancing, physically and digitally, the lessons we learn from each moment in life and accepting how we are feeling and sinking into that. Verity talks with Jessica about attending therapy sessions and the feelings that come up surrounding that. We discuss the danger of making assumptions of people’s lives and how we can try and stop doing this to protect our heads.
It is important we know how to support friends who are experiencing mental health challenges and Jessica provides some beautiful advice on how best to do this. Let’s step away from the word normal and this is not the time for self-sabotage. We then discuss how to manage your mental health during COVID19 including building a routine, minimal news consumption and not losing your identity within this altered world.

ABOUT OUR GUEST, JESSICA WARDJessica Ward is a multi-award winning Mental Health Awareness blogger, fitness enthusiast and marketer.
Her blog began when she was 13 and at this time, it was a private online archive to document her life as a teenager struggling with bullying at school. During this time, she suffered with difficulties including health, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, confidence and overall wellbeing.
Having hit an all-time low, Jessica realised it was time she needed to make a change. Positively Jessica Ward was set up as a blog to help others and as a location for all things positive. Magnetic colour, mouthwatering recipes and infectious positivity!

We open up this episode discussing our own experiences of being women who are each and every day are trying to fit in a world built by men and for men. Verity talks about the angry feminist within her and how aged has given her the power to let her out!
We discuss where we are in terms of equality and how big the gap is in pay, the way we are treated and the general structure of a standard 24 hours. Charelle knows that she is not being taken less seriously regarding an important situation simply because she is a woman and we discuss the lengths women have to go to to be heard.
Are you curious? Do you question the way things are done? Do men take advantage of you because you are a woman?
We then delve into the data gap (inspired by the book Invisible Women) and how this is negatively affecting women in so many areas from car crashes to toilets to children assuming a Scientist is a man.
From defending the use of female pronouns and the fact in 2015 there were fewer large companies run by women than by men named John, we look at being a woman in the workplace and the challenges we encounter there. Do you feel you need to act more like a man to get ahead in your career? We discuss representation, valid ambition and the role of women in politics both in the UK and US.
We finish by chatting about the capitalist world we live in and how COVID19 has turned it on its head and whether we will return to this money driven approach when normality resumes.

Natasha studied at a much younger age than most herbalists after working for Neal’s Yard and being inspired to get a degree in the subject of herbs. Then her own challenges with her menstrual cycle led her down a path of self-discovery and becoming an expert when it comes to periods and herbal remedies. We start by chatting how we are raised to believe periods should be painful, so we don’t question it, and also how we should simply be the same everyday despite our cycle.
We discuss how buying Paracetamol feels more acceptable, and is much easier to find, then buying a herbal solution. We look at the place painkillers have in our lives and how they can support herbal remedies but can also disconnect us from the signals our bodies are trying to feed us.
Do you think your pain symptoms are connected to your mind and anxiety? Do you plan around your period? Do you believe that you can have a peaceful period?
Natasha discusses her goal through her work with women to have a better period and what that means to each individual woman. We then switch to discussing the contraceptive pill and Charelle highlights the control it allows her to have with her cycle and life but the fear of coming off the pill one day and the consequences.
Natasha advises how she isn’t against contraception but is intrigued by the secondary uses it can be subscribed for such as acne and heavy periods. Verity highlights being in a same-sex relationship she doesn’t need contraception against pregnancy but is being advised to take it by doctors to help her heavy periods, which is very frustrating to her.
We delve deeper into the use of the pill and its history within our society and how to converse with the opposite sex about menstruating. We discuss talking about periods at work and how to surrender to the fact we can not operate the same each and every day.
Natasha describes PMS as the natural magnifying glass for your life and how it changes our reactions, observations and triggers plus advises the best ways of managing this with herbs.
COVID-19 snippet at the start
Natasha talks about the anxiety and stress that we are feeling right now and what to expect from your monthly cycle and which herbs can help, including nerve tonics.

Charelle and Verity open with why their title includes the word free and it’s origins and meanings for them. Areas such as choice and power come up when we discuss our entitlement to freedom in one of the richest (monetary wise) countries in the world.
Freedom can mean many different things including freedom from violence, from judgement, from societal norms. It can also be the simple like being able to safely hug a friend, to use a bus or go for after work drinks at the pub. Charelle talks about how she has always felt really free as she is accepted as a mixed race woman now in the present day more so than ever.
We talk about the realisation of how much power the Government has over us but how a level of restriction in turn provides us with freedom. Peacetime is mentioned many times in the media and we wonder how the children of now will react to this time and if it will be similar to those who were children during the Second World War.
Do you think the world will be more aware? Do you think you will make more of an effort to explore our world when this is over? Do you dream of the days you can date again?
We are blessed to have actually known true freedom and we must not take it for granted when normality returns.

A lot has been happening over the past few weeks and we are aware that most of us are now in self-isolation. So we wanted to discuss how you can keep yourself in a strong head space during this period and making the most of the free time we have been gifted.
Both have had self-isolation like periods in their life - Verity during a career break and Charelle after a knee operation - so want to share how they have used their time during similar periods.
Do you have a healthy relationship with time? Have you allowed yourself to cry if you have wanted to? Have you gone from a full diary to nothing?
We talk about focusing on the things that we can control, getting a routine and understanding your personality and traits and do your best to manage those healthily during this time. Verity opens up about her depression and how this period has triggered her mental health once again and gives others permission to surrender to this.
We chat social pressures with the world going virtual, setting intentions and
Verity talks about taking time out to think about things you have wanted to do for years - from the practical to the silly - and that you have used time as the excuse not to do them.Charelle turns to self-development and reading to fill her time along with the tonne of life and house admin that had been hanging over her.
From finances to meditation and YouTube hair tutorials to virtual dinner parties we explore the ways you can use this time the best. We chat food (have you seen how much vegan stuff is still on the shelves!!!) and the importance of being present and gratitude.
Your key takeaway for this episode? Write a list of 3 things you want to achieve whilst you are in self-isolation.
Sending you lots of love, stay home and stay safe.

After the recent release of the Netflix series “Love is blind” Charelle and Verity decide to discuss whether they actually believe this. A social experiment - set in the US - where a group of women live in one apartment, a group of men in another and then they date via a network of pods; where they can’t see each other. The end goal of the show is to get married to the person you propose to in the pod - sight unseen! #drama
Do you have a type? Are looks the most important thing to you? Or do you fall for souls rather than the physical aspect?
Charelle says she would totally be up for an experiment like this as she believes that discovering someone’s personality before looks can be an important aspect to successful dating. Verity talks about her hate of phone calls (hi introvert!) and how it used to freak her out if someone called her before meeting IRL.
Verity puts her trust in the Universe when it comes to falling in love; then pimps out Charelle (sorry Charelle!) and we chat about the option of speed dating - perfect for those who are on a screen detox! Verity discusses how love was certainly not blind when she did a free trial with Match.com and they didn’t give her any photos!
Have you been on a blind date? Have you fallen for someone you have never seen before? Have you been catfished like Verity thinks she was?
We wonder if people catfish because they do not have self-confidence or belief that someone will fall for them for the true way they are. We finish off discussing if in a world of profile photos and swiping right, if this is the way forward?

An equal world is an enabled world.
Charelle and Verity have recorded a special episode to mark #IWD2020 and discuss this year’s theme which is all around how will you help forge a gender equal world?
Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.
We cover the key topics including championing women forging tech innovation, applauding equality for women athletes, forging inclusive workplaces, support women to earn on her own terms and in her own way, empower women through health education and increased visibility for women creatives.
Do you think the tech industry is feeling more equal now then 10 years ago? Should female athletes get paid the same as male athletes? Is it important to nurture within the workplace? Did you learn about sex from teen magazines?
We discuss the male heavy investors, the pay - and respect - gap in sport, women at every stage of the ladder, where all the female graduates go, imposter syndrome, the poor dialogue around the female anatomy and sex and how festivals are failing to balance the genders in their line-ups.
Come join us for this empowering discussion and take a step today towards #each for equal.

Inspired by an article by Arianna Huffington, we discuss the stigma around #stylerepeat. Charelle discusses how her day job equals many red carpet events and how this can cause pressure to wear something new each time and Verity discusses how the media are to blame for creating this culture especially for women.
Do you just wear black to prevent this challenge? Do you have an entire gym wardrobe or just two pairs of leggings in rotation? Why is it more acceptable to repeat fashion in the accessories zone?
Charelle discusses her love of pockets and why it’s very practical to wear things that work with your lifestyle. We also look at the rise of the camera phone and social media and how this means not only the people at an event have seen what we wore, but technically the whole world!
Verity explores the positive side of a different dress for every occasion; the joy of new clothes, and having a rainbow of colours in your wardrobe. We then delve into the art of decision making and if repeat fashion - and having certain outfits for certain situations - can save your mental energy for the super important decisions in life
There are of course the environmental - and space - bonuses too but ultimately it’s about how you feel repeating fashion and your relationship with style. Plus, celebrities are not having to buy these one wear show dresses, they are simply loaned them, so it is a slightly different scenario to us mere mortals.

After reading an article by a commitment-phobe, Charelle and Verity decide to explore this side of being a millennial human. We start off by bringing out the key elements of the article including the different areas of life that commitment effects and why the writer, Sukh, decided to go on a year long journey to understand her own relationship with the c word.
Is your most used sentence “I am just not ready for commitment”? Do you dream of running away to a desert island? Does commitment come with age?
We cover dating, housing, jobs, friends, goals, relationships and everything in between. Verity is a little bit scared of commitment in a few areas whereas Charelle takes commitment very seriously no matter which part of her life. We go over what Sukh discovered during her year long journey and the conclusion she came to (it’s a good one!).
Do you really know what you want so you can commit to it? Do we lose freedom and choice when we commit?
As the episode goes on we really explore what commitment looks for you and how you have permission for this to be different for different areas and Charelle gives some tough love and wants you to really check-in with your relationship with commitment to see if there are any excuses hiding in there. We look at the positives of commitment in terms of energy, planning ahead and being able to focus on other areas of your life whilst some beautifully simmer away.
We close on chatting about those day-to-day commitments, the commitment trick and making dentist appointments 9 months in advance!

Charelle and Verity decided to record this fun, cringeworthy and revealing episode all about their dating history. We briefly touch on how we both believe there are no rules when it comes to dating, just do what feels right for you!
Are you attracted to their job but not them? Have you turned up drunk on a date? Has someone turned up drunk on you?
Verity talks about how she only went on 2 dates before the age of 29 and her approach to dating as a bisexual woman with no type. She recalls her worst dates and questions why she put up with being treated less than her worth.
Charelle talks about being stood up and ending up dining for one while Verity discusses maggots, dodgy hotel rooms and crossed wires. How long would you wait for a late date? What is the most awkward situation you have been in? Have you had an encounter with a stalker type?
We then talk about those dates that were brief, or just the one, but were magical. Charelle tells her story about being surprised by a lovely experience on a date whilst Verity talks about how she thought she was punching with her first date after 10 years! She also loved dating abroad and tells all her funny stories to do with this.
There is a beauty of encounters that may not be forever but that teach you things and give you faith in people and love. We chat about how the most memorable dates are the one’s where an activity is involved and you feel like you fast track your way in getting to know people.
We conclude by chatting about our plans for V Day as a singleton and a loved up one!

A subject close to Charelle’s heart, we decide to talk about the subject of home and what it means to each and every one of us.
We start by talking about our own journey’s with shelter - there is a lot of moving! - and how different it is to that of our mothers. We look at all the different combinations aka living with parents, living with a partner, living with friends, living with strangers, living with live-in landladys and everything in between!
How much does money affect our living circumstances? Do we move in with partners quicker or stay with partners longer due to money? Have you ever moved back in with parents to save money for a deposit/ start your own business?
We discuss the big difference between living in a big city and in smaller towns and also the lack of control you have in your schedule when you are sharing bathrooms/ kitchens/ washing machines with others.
What is your experiences of living with randomers? Would you prefer to live alone if money was no object? What are your non-negotiables and what are you willing to sacrifice?
In the Western world it can be seen as a negative to live with your parents however in places like India it’s very normal. We discuss how you need to stop thinking about what other people say/ think re your living situation and do what is best for you. Verity raises the point that not everyone has the option of moving back in with parents. If you have a healthy relationship with a parent that is still on the earth plane, then you have to count yourself very lucky as it is not a given to all.
Then we step out of the four walls and discuss location and how that affects our wellbeing and mindset. What is the difference between a home and a house? Do we simply find home within ourselves? Do other people - the right ones - make a home?
Get in touch and let us know your own thoughts about home.

You may not know it but the 9-5 queen started the LinkedIn vs Facebook vs Instagram vs Tinder challenge that we have been seeing on our feeds over the last few weeks.
We thought it was a great foundation to discuss whether or not we do have different personalities on different platforms and does it really matter? We expand to look not just at imagery but content, language and tone.
Would you swear on LinkedIn? Would you talk politics on Tinder? Would you put an unfiltered image on Instagram?
Verity considers the types of things she posts on Facebook (election opinion, period poverty, LGBTQ+ rights) and why she doesn’t talk about that on other platforms. Charelle discusses how when she sees white privilege examples on LinkedIn she is much less inclined to comment on her true feelings due to the professional aspect of the platform.
We talk about being authentic and if there are boundaries that simply cannot cross from Tinder to LinkedIn. We look at how the same topic could be discussed and portrayed very differently depending on the typical audience of each platform and we delve into digital life vs real life.
Verity discusses the importance of being her authentic self when people ask her about her boyfriend (she has a girlfriend and corrects them for queer visibility reasons) and Charelle explores the subjectiveness of this topic and why we need to do what feels right as an individual.

In this week’s episode we are joined by self love coach and manifesting queen, Gina Swire.
A model from 17 years old, Gina talks about how it put her in the front line of negative talk and her evolution from a straight sized model to a plus sized one. You are not good enough as you are and you need to change were messages that flooded her past career. We discuss how we are very good at remembering all the negatives and dismissing any positive comments that are made.
We go through what self-love actually means, how it lays beneath everything and the reason why life doesn’t look how you want it to. The beauty of self-love is that it covers everything and it really highlights the fact that everything is connected.
Do you listen to your intuition? Do you see signs? How much time do you spend thinking about things you want to change?
We go through top tips for bringing more self-love into your life which are totally original and really, really great (mirrors are involved!). This is the point in the episode where you pause and give some things a try; cringing and going out of comfort zones is totally allowed! Verity asks Gina about self-love and age and it opens up a very interesting conversation regarding deep inner work and our different journeys including our self-esteem.
We discuss retreats and why they are a way to supercharge your self-development and the power of realisations to move you forward. Simple, not easy. And the transformations! Examples of what you can expect if you commit to self-love yourself. Also when your life looks amazing on the outside - and you don’t feel amazing on the inside - and the huge load of guilt that comes with that.
Gina talks about how not getting what she wanted out of her life led her to manifest the life of her dreams and we discuss how to make manifesting work for you. You are always manifesting - both things you want and don’t want - and we talk about the difference between thoughts and feelings. Also the power of like-minded people around you to help you accelerate your dream life. This episode will leave you truly wanting to love yourself and manifesting the life you desire!

As we approach what is labelled as the ‘most depressing day of the year’ for us in the Northern Hemisphere, we wanted to give you an episode that is the total opposite!
This week we have decided to discuss the importance of knowing that you have the right to choose in your life and why this simple thing can be so empowering, You may be listening to this with only a little bit of wage left in the bank to last you until the 31st and unhappy in your job/ a relationship/ your body etc. We want this episode to give you a chance to really think about your current position and where you want to be.
Hello SAD lamps! We chat how the tiny things can ease the pain or misery of an activity or situation and provide examples of how this can be implemented into your life. Do you use excuses to cover fear? Do you feel stuck? Do you manifest good and bad? Do you complain a lot?
We look at the power of ‘I am’ and the roles the conscious and subconscious plays along with gratitude practice. Verity discusses her own relationship with being at rock bottom but changing her mindset and choosing to slowly raise her vibration each day.
The Power of Belief, and your mindset, is the number one thing that can transform your day, your year, your life. What we focus on is what grows, momentum is so vital and ensuring that you build happiness into your life is key. Build rewards into your schedule to ease the discomfort of tricky parts of your path.
Reach out and let us know your biggest takeaway from this episode around choice and the one thing you are going to do differently moving forward.

Seen as we are early into the New Year and feeling that indulgent festive season a little around the waist, we thought we would chat all things moving your bum!
Have you struggled to kick-start your year with fitness? We talk about our own approaches to getting off that sofa and using our legging attire for the actual reason they were created and not just so we can easily expand after a Quality Street sesh. From 30 day yoga challenges to dance classes to jumping in the lake. It’s important to do your best to find an exercise that you (kind of) look forward to or get some sort of results from to motivate you.
Charelle talks about her dancing background (she also drops a MASSIVE claim to fame!) which leads us on to both our journeys with fitness during our lives and how it’s change with age and priorities. Verity discusses how her move to the Lake District has been a huge part of her motivation due to the fact that everyone she knows has a regular fitness regime and are super fit!
School days come into our conversation and how it’s totally like Marmite; you were either on every team or dreaded every Wednesday afternoon. We then delve into what actually motivates us. Is it body image? Is it strength? It is health? It is super interesting hearing how we differ in this and how it has evolved.
Accountability is absolutely key in supporting you on your fitness journey and we explore all the ways you can find this, and we aren’t just talking gym buddies! And we look at role models in their 40s, 50s, 60+ and how it’s wonderful to see the strength and beauty of women many years ahead of us, making us want that too. Hello future self!
We conclude by talking about the mental health benefits of exercise and how January is a more important time than ever to look after our heads and get some good hormones rushing through our bodies!

This is a must listen episode for any woman who isn’t 100% happy in their job and is wondering what next steps to take.
Lauretta from global career changing platform - The Ambition Plan, which currently has 139k followers on Instagram! - is joining us today to talk all things work. If you have entered the New Year not really wanting to go back to the day job and wondering what is the career you should actually have - then this is the perfect episode for you!
Lauretta Ihonor is the expert on changing careers having gone from medicine to journalism, fashion to TV and nutrition to world of entrepreneurs. We chat peer pressure, mental health, education status and fueling your creative side. The risks of turning your passion into your career, imposter syndrome and how to quit in a healthy way.
We go deep into the importance, and bravery, that comes with listening to your inner voice and walking away from things that ‘look’ impressive to others but that don’t feed your soul. Are you multi-passionate and are concerned that this is a weakness? We talk CVs and how to build a strong one even if you feel your career path so far has been a bit flakey.
What if you don’t enjoy what you are doing but don’t have a clue what you actually want to do? Lauretta talks honestly about she knows where she wants to be right now but that’s most likely going to change as the years roll in. We discuss taking a strategic approach in regards to a heart-based challenge and the harm this can cause long term.
Ultimately, we are all just seeking stability. There is a strong importance of remembering the positives and trying not to read into people’s comments and learning to just accept them. We have a great discussion around interviews and the best way to manage them, especially if you dread them! The key is in the preparation.
Finally we chat transitioning from being a 9-5 gal to a business owner and the things you must consider before taking that leap. Looking at side hustles, work experience and the power of knowing what you are not meant to do. It’s all about the action and committing to change.

Make sure you listen to part one - ep 056 - first!
Welcome to Part Two of this mini series where we talk about going into 2020 with a plan. We start off discussing how to ensure the goals you set in part one stay at the forefront of your mind and what techniques we use to do this. From morning routines, to digital vs pen & paper and matching the action with the goal.
It’s about being very conscious and present with your goals and not allowing things to become habitual and stagnant. We talk all things vision boards and how they play an important part in the life of a goal setting girl! Verity discusses the power of visualisation and manifestation in bringing rational (and blue sky!) aims into reality.
We discuss the different types of accountability and which can work the best depending on yourself and your goals. From 121 to facebook feeds to masterminds we help you decide which is going to be best to help you achieve your goals. Verity then woo-woos it up and discusses working with the moon so you have a natural monthly ritual to set your goals to.
Affirmations are a huge part in helping you change your belief system and supporting you in bringing in your desires to your life. We talk through how to build a strong practice when it comes to these and the number one thing you must not do!
We finish talking about tracking goals and chunking them down to make them easier to measure and more achievable. Also being mindful of your own lifestyle, routines, responsibilities and downtime to ensure excuses don’t creep in and you can plan for success. PLUS the importance of celebration.
We can’t wait for you all to have the most incredible 2020’s and to share all your achievements with us!

We are coming to the end of another year - and another decade also - and we know you will be most likely listening to this at some point over the festive season, so we thought it was a good chance to get some plans in motion for 2020.
This is part one of a two-part mini-series called “Go into 2020 with a plan”. In this first part, we discuss types of goal setting including SMART goals and Be, Do, Have. We talk you through the best ways to approach goal setting and how to use each technique as effectively as possible.
We also look at The Wheel of Life that helps you set goals across all areas of your life to ensure that what you are trying to achieve is balanced.
We discuss risk, realism, relevance and research, delving into what makes an ideal goal. Also setting goals of different timelines considering where you are in life right now. Depending on the type of person you are or the goals you are setting will effect the type of technique you use.
Whether you are a newbie or a goal-setting pro, we give you the templates and our top tips to set your goals for 2020.

We are celebrating our first birthday (yay!) and thought it was the perfect time to reflect on the decade we are currently coming to the end of; the Tens!
We both go back to 10 years ago and reflect on what our lives looked like back then when we were 21 and 23. From moving to big cities, first jobs, building friendships and little money we see how different our lives look now. It was such a monumental decade for both of us - being in our Twenties - so evolution came more than naturally throughout the years.
Let us then take you back over all the memorable - and things you would rather forget - parts of the past 10 years from avocado on toast to prosecco, espresso martinis to athleisure and selfies to Facebook.
Do you remember when Netflix was a DVD rental by post thing? Anybody else had an iPhone 3?
Whether you were watching Orange is the New Black, Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones on the TV or Bridemaids, Frozen (eugh!) and La La Land at the cinema, the Tens was the decade where TV overtook cinema in terms of quality. We chat music that littered our decade - lot’s of girl power in there - and Charelle crushes on Beyonce whilst Verity reminisces about seeing Katy Perry in a tiny venue back in 2009! We were both reading 50 Shades of Grey (back to back btw) and on a Kindle obvs.
We finish the episode looking into the future and at the next 10 years. We chat social media, politics, the environment and our very own 10 year goals!

In today’s episode we are joined by vegan blogger and sustainable lifestyle advocate Marta Canga. She tells us about how an important moment in her life led her to read a book which began her on the road of plant-based eating and goes on to explain how other areas of her life started to slowly follow when it came to ethical living.
Whether it’s food, beauty or fashion, we explore with Marta the more sustainable side of these sectors, plus greenwashing, zero waste and travelling with a vegan diet. We get some recipes for natural beauty products we can make at home (order the Jojoba oil!) and Marta discusses her own version of sustainability and why it’s such a tricky subject to define.
Is veganism a privilege? Is sustainable fashion too expensive and inaccessible? Do you think about zero waste when you do your weekly shop?
We discuss the best way to have eco-based conversations with your friends in a way that isn’t preaching, but a healthy discussion, and also bring boys into the conversation and how you can open up about veganism and co. to your partner/ brother/ dad.
The prominent message in this interview is that we all start somewhere and are at different points of our journey and Marta beautifully summarises what small steps we can start taking today to be more sustainable to look after ourselves and planet.
Marta is a vegan, cruelty-free and sustainable lifestyle blogger living in London.
Having begun blogging about sustainable fashion over 4 years ago, Marta is a highly respected voice in her global community. Her audience are hugely interested in sustainable fashion, vegan food, natural beauty and living an ethical lifestyle. She is a vegan fashion columnist for Simply Vegan Magazine and has worked with brands such as Lush, Waitrose and The Body Shop.

How does the word failure make you feel? In this episode, we delve into the subject and our own journeys with it. Verity talks about how she feels it is important to ‘fail’ and understanding what you don’t want is just as important in knowing what you do want. Charelle discusses her struggle with failure and how your attitude and reaction to it makes all the difference.
Are you a perfectionist who is crippled by failure? Should we simply see failure as growth? Is there a difference between failing and being a failure?
We discuss having to risk failure to try and succeed in life and the importance of making failure your friend. Is the definition of failure subjective if you compare your own opinion of yourself to others? Verity discusses the more spiritual side in that you are sent things in life to help you grow and put you on the path of where you need to be. Charelle brings up the pressure she has put on herself in the past by putting time goals on her achievements.
What is your definition of failure for yourself? We finish the episode talking about overwhelm, setting yourself up to fail and giving yourself permission to evolve with the rhythm of life.

Charelle and Verity recently read an article called “Being a boss has nothing to do with having a vagina” and in particular it’s attack on the term #girlboss
A millennial term, it has gone from empowering to degrading and we discuss if it still has a place in 2019. As two marketeers we discuss its place as a niche, and the identity it has carried since its birth (hello rose gold!).
#girlboss now has a cult following but many female business owners are questioning it for two reasons. One, because it refers to girl, not woman. Two, because there is not an alternative for men - they are just a boss!
Does girl make you feel more youthful? Is it right to have women only business events? Do we need to change the spelling of femxle and wimmin to own our language again?
We chat about the difference between women and men when it comes to business and where are all the career men (aka that phrase is not needed!)? Generation Z aren’t big on gender but are we becoming too neutral and losing community spirit?

Enjoy!

Emma Watson recently did an interview with British Vogue and was questioned about turning 30 in 2020. This raised a conversation around the milestone expectations of a 30 year old woman including having found a husband sigh.
Charelle and Verity decide to discuss her stance on being single in her late-twenties and if there is genuine space for a description like this in 2019. We discuss how single isn’t really a status of choice, how it can be quite an archaic and negative description and how Emma’s term portrays that she is owning being on her own.
Verity reflects on her single days and how she felt using the term ‘single’ and Charelle talks about how she deals with people asking her about her relationship status. Emma has become a really strong and authoritative figure - in many areas including her work with the UN - which simply adds to the authenticity of this conversation.
Do you feel like the clock is ticking? Do you believe what is meant for you will not pass you by? Do you think Facebook should include ‘self-partnered’ as an option?
Tune in to hear our discussion

On this episode, we discuss the stereotypes of introverts and extroverts plus the rise of the ambivert label. Verity discovers what an ambivert actually is (thanks Charelle!) and we discuss the definitions of each.
We chat personality tests (tune in to hear our Myers Briggs results!) and how Charelle has always been the same but Verity’s has changed over the years. Do you know your own 4 letters? The link to take the text is below!
Do you believe all good leaders are extroverts? Are our assumptions of people’s personalities harmful if they are miscalculated? Where do you regain your energy from?
Verity talks about how she wants company, but on her own terms, whilst Charelle highlights the shift of those in the spotlight, the permission to change who we are and how knowing your personality can help you in the workplace.
We talk networking, boundaries and questioning our own stereotype.

Could you give up your mobile for 30 days?
In this episode, we explore digital minimalism, social media breaks and conscious use of your phone.
Charelle recently read a book with the same title whilst Verity recently did a 10-day break from all social apps.
We discuss why 30 days is what you need to have a true break and start to introduce what you truly need back into your life.
Does the free element of the digital world mean we download download download without truly thinking about it?
Do we need 10gb of data a month or do we just use it because it’s there?
Have you tried a digital detox before?
Charelle talks about her Christmas phone break and how we just lose ourselves in click bait.
Verity talks about her week without WiFi and all the surprising wonderful things it taught her.
Notifications are basically a tool to help us get addicted; have you switched them off your phone yet? Do you set time limits for social media? When was your latest app refresh?

This week the hosts are inspired by a few articles they have recently read on millennial burnout, delve into the subject and discuss.
We discuss the stereotype of millennials being lazy, the fact that most of us graduated around the time of the recession and the highlight reel of people’s careers.
We look at the reasons why millennial burnout occurs which includes having unrealistic career expectations, the blurring of work life boundaries and being constantly connected.
Verity talks about her recent break from social media and the effects it had on her, how burnout recently creeped up on her without realising and her struggle with balancing all aspects of her life.
Charelle raises the issue of day to day admin and how it can feel overwhelming to squeeze these in around a 40 hour+ working week and having to constantly Google all the little adulting things we come across each day.
Do you have a to do list that is impossible to achieve? Do you think you could be a better daughter/ friend/ girlfriend and feel guilt? Do you struggle to balance and are a hot mess?
We discuss how trying to keep everyone happy and fit everything in can lead to millennial burnout. What are you worrying about now that will not matter in one years time? Sit down with a pen and paper and start to map out what life needs to look like in the present to prevent burnout.

This week, our meat-free hosts chat all things on your plate!
Charelle is a seasoned veggie (technically pescetarian) - having not eaten meat since she was 13 - whilst Verity has been a dabbler up until this year when she went full-time vegetarian. They discuss the evolution of plant-based diets, the options in restaurants and what meat they crave on occasion!
They discuss how around the world, some cuisines are simply made for non-meat diets. Hello India, bye-bye Italy and Germany! Verity expresses how she feels very limited by menu choices most of the time when she eats out and asks if she allowed to be triggered or if she should just think about the planet.
Charelle has had to deal with stereotypical comments being a pescatarian for a few decades and talks about how the rise in veganism has affected the use of real cheese!
Should vegans only go to vegan restaurants? Will there be a day where menus will be 50% meat/ fish choices and 50% vegetarian? Can you date someone who has a different food lifestyle to you?
Verity is now dating a plant-based chef and talks about her decision to go a part-time vegan 6 months ago whilst Charelle sometimes hesitates to mention her preferences on dates in fear of a negative reaction.
The hosts would love to know what your preferred diet is so hit us up, let us know and share your recommendations!

It is Black History month here in the UK so we have decided to have a very honest discussion around white privilege. Recently the comedian, Chelsea Handler, released a documentary on Netflix entitled “Hello, Privilege, It’s Me, Chelsea” and after both watching it we decided that this would be a great foundation for this conversation.
For context for this episode, Charelle is a mixed-race (African, Caribbean and English) woman and Verity is a white woman. We sometimes may trip up on our words, use language that is not politically correct and give opinions you do not agree with. We ask you to listen with an open mind and an understanding and reach out to us if you want to correct us or educate us; we welcome it.
We start discussing one of the key ideas that came out of the documentary; that it is not up to black people to help white people deal with their privilege.
We move into the meaning of privilege - discussing both class and race - and the misconception of it. Chelsea discusses her teen years of dating a black guy and scrapes with the law and the inequality that was so prominent then, but she has only just realised. We talk about how we produce visual content for the podcast and the difficulty of balancing representation due to the imbalance in stock imagery out there (small but big thing).
Does white privilege exist? Do you believe in positive discrimination? Do we all just want an easy life and would our opinions change if we were born into a different race?
Verity opens up about the fact she was oblivious to white privilege up until a few years ago and wonders how we educate future generations to raise awareness of this topic. She talks about her time in India and the guilt she felt for being treated so well; most of the time because she was white.
Charelle discusses how it feels to be the only white person in the room for much of her life and career and her own experiences of choosing what ethnic group to choose when filling in forms.
We close by asking that you start having these conversations - about white privilege - with everyone, not just black people and not just white people, but everyone. Let’s talk about white privilege.

Let’s talk about the mindset side of money!!!
Money Mindset is a favourite topic of the hosts and in this episode, they talk about all the beliefs around money and how this affects your external world.
Money is slowly becoming less stigmatised and more and more people are talking about it. Charelle comes out of the extreme woo woo closet and talks about a book she has read that was basically written by a spirit (listen to find out exactly what we mean!) and shares some of the exercises she did to help advance her mindset.
The hosts both come from a lack mindset past (hello programming in childhood) but one went on to be a saver, the other a spender. Verity goes into the practical side of getting to know your belief system and her journey with reprogramming her own mind, and how far she still has to go!
What messages were you surrounded by when you were younger? Have you ever questioned your relationship with money? Do you have a millionaire mindset?
Charelle goes into detail about the tools that she uses including affirmations and fake cheques to herself (google Jim Carrey cheque) whilst Verity recently read a book that totally transformed her money mindset, and threw everything she had learnt on its head. We ask the question “What is the worst that can happen if you bring in some woo woo when it comes to money?”. In short, the answer is, nothing, and we are here to guide you on that!
“We must question our beliefs, especially around money, and ask if they serve us anymore.”
