We're back with a fresh episode of the Yoked Podcast. We've been on a hiatus while I pour attention into the growing community of practitioners over in the Wildcat Yoga Club, developing the curriculum for our Bhagavad Gita Immersion (currently in process, will be offered again in the 2018-2019 season) and growing a baby (he's due earth-side this summer). I've missed being here and am SO happy to be back with a crop of fresh conversations about the Yoga of our REAL Lives with Real-Life Yogis & Yoginis. Thank you so much for being here.
Today's guest is Lara Falberg. I just ADORED our time together.
Lara and I talk about the evolution of her life from Crime Victim Advocate to Full-time Yoga Teacher and novelist and the evolution of her practice. We also talk about the evolution of yoga education in the decade plus that we have both been teaching yoga. I LOVE the discussion we have about dharma.
More about our guest:
Lara Falberg has been teaching yoga since 2006. Early on, she figured out she never wanted to teach the same class twice. A lover of vocabulary and how words are strung together sent her on a quest to acquire interesting, effective ways to instruct others on how to move and breath. After hearing just about every new teacher express anxiety over figuring out cues, sequencing, and how to effectively weave a theme into yoga classes, http://iworkbarefoot.com/, a yoga teaching resource website, was born. Lara works with the teacher training program at Yoga on High in Columbus, Ohio. She wrote a novel, Yoga Train, about a group of lovable, fucked up people who go through a yoga teacher training program together. Check it on Amazon for Kindle. Lara loves to share. You can eat off her plate if you want to. Reach out to her at lara@iworkbarefoot.com if you wanna.

Welcome to the new season, a wonderful time to reflect on the work of the previous season and the direction of the new one.
Questions for reflection:
What challenged me?
What inspired me?
What did I eat? How did I sleep? What was my movement practice like?
What was happening in the world and in the sky?
Into the present: Where am I now? What’s my overall state?
Finally, into the next season:
What am I being pulled toward?
What would I like more of?
What am I curious about?
What is most important to me right now?
How do I want to feel?

Another 5-Pose Practice for you, yogis!
The 5-Pose Practice is a series dedicated to finding a complete yoga movement practice in 5 poses. These poses are enough, but they can also serve as a spring-board for where your wise body leads you next. Listening deeply to the body is the way of the yogini, nourish her.

NEWS//
Hi Gorgeous,
SO happy you are here.
& So happy to be back with another 5-Pose Practice! Oftentimes, what keeps me (& students, from what I hear) from the mat is the belief that in order for the practice to be real/ worth it/ enough, it must be a 90-minute sweat-fest. Not so, in my own very real experience. The truth is, one pose, one quality breath, one well-intentioned word is enough to feed your practice. Your practice does not need to be long or complicated, you just have to do it.
The 5-pose practice offers an opportunity to enjoy a complete movement (asana) practice in about 20-30 minutes. If you do not have time to do all five postures at once, split them up throughout the day. If you have a little more time, see where these five shapes lead you. Practice the poses, listen to the feedback your body gives you and proceed accordingly.
This is the practice: learning how to listen, listening and acting from that place.
I am so happy you are here. Thank you.

We reached the milestone of 200 episodes of this podcast smack in the middle of a series and smack in the middle of what feels like eternal international upheaval. I want to mark both of these vastly different moments in time with one theme: Inhabiting truth; Embodying your word; What you do matters.
In today's podcast, I'm sharing a few thoughts on using our voices as yogis, a few recommendations for reading and a piece I shared awhile back called "I am this way on purpose." It is a teaching manifesto, but also an invitation for you to fully step into this practice, this life and to make it your sincere offering.

Hello Dear Ones!
This episode features the seasonal check-in. I have found this type of reflection to be super-helpful in deepening the practice of self-study, or svadhyaya. Svadhyaya is one of the 3 pillars of practice as described by the Yoga Sutras, as well as one of the Niyamas of the Yoga Sutras.
To engage with this practice, you might reflect on the past season, asking such questions as:
Into the present: Where am I now? What's my overall state?
Finally, into the next season:
Please do share. Email me: sunroseyoga@gmail.com (text, audio or video are all wonderful) or leave a message on speakpipe.

DESIRE
and our attachments to the objects of desire are such fertile territory for deeply transformative work. when we start to realize the power of our own desire, independent of any object... we drop so far into our SHAKTI!
When we are hostages to the objects of our desire, we play small, we are blind to our own true nature.
This is a meditation for major shakti-mama goodness.
SO happy you are here.

I have LOVED hearing from all of you about how those practices are feeling.
If you have a minute, let me know what you loved the most about the at-home retreat by emailing me at sunroseyoga@gmail.com.
Thank you. LOVE.
Today's class is all about desire. In yoga philosophy, being overly attached to the object of one's desires is a principle obstacle to the state of yoga, being yoked, liberation. We call it raga, and it is one of the kleshas (obstacles to clear sight). In this class, we talk about the practice of feeling-in to the sensations of desire without getting to drunk on the object of the desire. OH SWEETHEART, do this and things start to get super interesting.
Interested in learning more about the kleshas? I would love to invite you to drop deeper into your practice and join us in an immersion this spring. The Whole Yoga Spring Immersion includes:
• 7 one-hour interactive classes online (classes are recorded for future reference and for those who cannot attend in real-time);
• reading assignments and inquiry for reflection;
• weekly yoga movement practice videos that provide embodied context for the work;
• weekly guided audio meditations to invite an ultra-deep experience of the practices.
Learn more about this opportunity to deepen your connection to practice, self and this community right here.

LOVE you.
