This isn't your typical organizational podcast. We aren't styling mantels or discussing how to have a perfectly organized bookshelf. On this show, we prioritize what matters most in your life with simple systems to help you declutter and organize! Welcome, friends!
I want you to think about this.
Do you feel as though a certain room in your house is so disorganized and messy?
That it's honestly a moot point?
When you talk to yourself - do you say... It's going to be exactly as it was before AND dang it - you just spent so much time and energy organizing and doing all the things to make this room look presentable.!!
Does this sound familiar? So, instead of reorganizing the same stuff over and over again then I want to encourage you to remove the excess and then organize.
Today, I want to walk with you through some steps to encourage you and to motivate you to tackle that daunting room, that cabinet, that drawer -- shoot ANY space.
This little formula works for any single space in your house.
It could be a basket in your office, a drawer in your kitchen, your makeup drawer/ cabinet but start small.
Set a little timer for however long feels comfortable for you and get after it.
Clean! It! Out!

Lis

Do you feel like you say yes to everyone and everything?
Are you exhausted?
Are you fried?
Are you frazzled?
I'm guessing you are nodding your head yes...
So that means you're often grumpy & crabby because all of these commitments seem to hit at once.
These events/commitments all seem to happen within a four-day period, at least in my life!! LOL
So, today, want to talk to you about saying no!
Saying no doesn't make you a bitch. I promise. It doesn't make you a meany.
Just look at it this way -- when you think about saying yes to someone realize that it's taking away from time your family, with your children, with people that mean the most to you.
Love you!

Think about this!
If you set your alarm 15 to 20 minutes earlier, you could have a little bit of time to sit with a cup of tea, to sit my cup of coffee, & gather your thoughts for the day.
And think about how you want to approach, whatever you have going on that day. You can choose, am I going to be hectic and scattered and stressed, or am I going to be methodical about it and be like, Hey, I know this is coming up, what's the best way to approach it? Let's get a game plan and move forward.
And I promise you that by being super intentional with that little bit of time your family will see a difference in you, the way you react, the way you communicate, and then you're going to start craving it.
Then you'll want more and more of it.
I promise.
So take this little nugget of advice, set your alarm just a little bit earlier.
Go to bed just a little bit earlier and then let me know how you feel because I think it's such a building block for my day and I know it could be such a building block for your day too!

Welcome to season two!
I would love for this season to teach you how to focus on the things in life that bring you joy and not just happiness. Happiness to me is temporary. Focus on the things in life that set your soul on fire.
The things that when you lay your head down on that squishy comfy pillow of yours, you can say, Thank you, God. Today was a good day.
Together, I want to walk down this road with you. Side by side.
Baby steps if that's our speed - That works for me.
Together, I want to show you that YOU are the focus of this season.
So, I'm jumping in. It will be messy. It will be fun. It will be freaking fantastic!!!
So come one, girlie! Jump on in —the water is warm. Honestly, it's September in Texas so the water is really warm. Ha, ha, but I've got a floatie with your name on it and a yummy spritzer for you to sip on.

Lis

I want to ask you if any of these questions feel like you?
**As moms, we carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. This is just a fact. Period. So, if we wake up each morning in a harried mess, running late, fussing at the kids, and now we are irritated with ourselves for oversleeping, and then it’s the snowball effect. we are already starting the day on the wrong foot and the rest of the day is predicted to be a big ball of poop. Right? Someone already tinkled in your oatmeal sister!!
Your day is off to a grand start and it’s not even 8 am. From this point, you have a million things on your to-do list - multiple Zoom meetings for work, kids either to school or settled in for online school, hey mom can you get this, I’m hungry...Fill in the blank here with about 100 other to-do’s. You give, give, and give some more.**
But I want you to ask yourself this question - aside from the things you do for your family and your home, are you happy with your other commitments? Are you giving of your time in other ways that do not fill your cup? Sure, some of us work and some of us don’t but I want you to think about the EXTRA commitments on your plate.
**Do they fill your emotional cup or do they take away from it? Are you doing this because you feel like you are supposed to? Because at some time in your life, you were led to believe that in order to be a good mom, you must volunteer for every event, fundraiser, or board position.
I want to encourage you to start by making a list of your non-negotiables. What are the things that are most important to you? Write them down.
Having these non-negotiables allows me to be present and focused on my kids when they get out of bed. I don’t want to start my day in a chaotic way and I can help them to start their day in as calm of a way as possible but let’s be realistic here. They are hormonal and the sound of my breathing can piss them off. Am I right or am I right??? LOL!!**
Next, I want you to think about all of your daily tasks Write them down. Create different boxes/bubbles/lists and label them: Home, Work, Me, Etc.
**Creating systems and routines will reduce anxiety and reduce stress levels. Maybe you meal plan on Sunday, make lunches the night before, set out your workout clothes the night before, or unload the dishwasher while your oatmeal is cooking. Really dig into what your day looks like and how you can lump all of the similar things together into blocks. I have work blocks, family blocks, Lis blocks, and cleaning blocks.
If you are feeling overwhelmed with where to even start, I want you to know that I can help you. Together we can map out a plan that will prove that 2021 is going to be your best year. I am praying that you will find peace in your life and know that if you need guidance, I am here.**

I’m going, to be honest here...
I think all teens are entitled and you know what? That is part of growing up and figuring out life. They are disconnected from reality and that includes their families, sometimes their obligations, and their behavior towards others (I.e. you and me!) LOL. It happens.
Back (way back) when I was a teenager, I slept late, had a pigsty for a bedroom, rolled my eyes at my parents, thought the world belonged to me, and all that jazz. It seems I turned out OK. I remember my mom telling me on more than one occasion - “You are not invincible and you are not above anyone else. Do you understand me?” Yes, Mama!

Seed Cycling? Maybe you’ve heard about it and maybe you haven’t. I first heard about it last spring and I must say, my curiosity was peaked. I knew that before I began this process though, I first wanted to make sure that I fully understood the benefits of cycle syncing.
(Check out Episode 30: Your Most Productive Time of the Month).
Seed Cycling is easy and it starts the first day of your menstrual cycle. Day 1-13, you take one tablespoon of pumpkin seeds and one tablespoon of flax seeds. As you wrap up your follicular phase your body moves into the Ovulation and Luteal phases. Day 14-28 you will take one tablespoon sunflower seeds and 1 tablespoon sesame seeds.

Mindset is the foundation that allows us to be who we are meant to be. Shifting from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset can open the world up to you. Were you always told that "it's ok you're not very good a math. You're a girl." I heard those words a lot and it wasn't until I shifted my "math mindset" that I gained confidence in myself to tackle math.
What fixed mindset do you have? How can you shift that to a growth mindset?
CTFAR Model: C = Circumstance, T = Thinking, F = Feeling, A = Action, R = Result. What is a Circumstance? Facts you have no control over.
Affirmations: You are strong. You are confident. You can change your mindset. You can focus on good things.
You've got this!!!

It breaks my heart to see posts all over IG of young girls dressing in bikinis, short shorts, low cut this, and high cut that. These young girls will need a job one day and if they are interviewing for a decent job then I'm willing to bet that the employer will check out previous social media posts/accounts. What will they think when they see a young girl so exposed at such a young age? Maybe they won't care but what if they do? These images don't disappear. Sadly, they are around forever. This episode is basically a letter I wrote to Linda, a fictitious "mom" telling her how I feel about this. It's just something I wanted to get off my heart because I see it all the time.

Hello, friends!
In this episode, I wanted to share with you a few ideas for how your teen can make some extra money! Does your child paint, woodwork, or sew? Are they techy? There are so many options available and for most of these, you can be 13 years old but please set these accounts up with your child, make sure you have all the usernames and passwords for access at any given time. I would advise that the parent sets up the account for younger teens. :)
Ideas for teens:
Online tutoring
Selling online via Etsy or similar (crafts/woodworking/art)
Survey Takers: SurveyJunkie 13+ or Swagbucks
Video/Audio Editing (parents should most def be involved in this to make sure your child isn't editing anything explicit or inappropriate - duh!)
Fiverr 13+
Freelancer 16+
I hope that helps and it could be a way for kiddos to earn some extra $$ as we head into the holidays.

I don’t know about you guys but I always love the beginning of a new month. I love to fill in my calendar, set my goals, and do all those things. Prior to cycle syncing, I had this massive to-do list, and the way I would approach it was to tackle it one item at a time. Once I understood how to cycle sync, my month took on a whole new look. I learned when I should organize all the things and when I should plan presentations or record videos. I now know when I expect to feel completely spent and work that into my calendar so I don’t have this overwhelming guilt for feeling 100% unmotivated. It’s OK!

I received this book, My Monastery is a Minivan several years ago from my dear friend, Meredith. I loved it then and I was so happy when I stumbled upon it recently. Something that jumped out at me in the book is her approach to dealing with her teens. The Author, Denise Roy, shares how she borrowed a few of the “R’s” from her friend, Pat’s book, 10 Best Gifts for Your Teen.
RECITE: You will need to put this mantra on repeat in your brain and recite daily: This is not about me. This is not about me. OR It’s not my fault. It’s not my fault. How many times have you taken a breath only to be accused of __ Well, you can fill in the blank with a few things just like me I’m sure. Recite - it’s not about me and it’s not my fault.
REUSE: Denise gives the example of noticing her son who was 17 at the time, walking by a mirror and admiring his buff physique. She complimented him and he began talking to her about his workouts, etc. She says, “I thought he would catch on when I started every conversation this way but he never did.”
REMEMBER: She goes on to say, how important it is in the heart of a battle to remember that these teenagers are the same souls who told you when they were little that they were going to marry you, who brought you crumpled dandelions and told you they’d never leave you. If you look really ard their eyelashes, or their cheeks, you see the resemblance. If they don’t let you get that close during the day, sneak into their rooms while they’re sleeping. Just hope they don’t wake up, or you’re toast!
RUMBA: We are on a lifelong dance with our kids; you step close; you step apart. Close. Apart. Apart. Apart. Close. You’re learning and they’re learning, and you’re going to step all over one another’s feet. Have fun with it when you can, and when you can’t - call a friend and scream.
REBEL: This made me laugh because I have rebelled a time or two. She says, “every once in a while, go on strike. Spike your hair and see if anyone notices. Serve dessert before dinner. Dance hip hop to their music. Give them some sense that there’s a secret side to you - it just might let them know there’s a real person in there.
Love -
Lis

I had a big reality check last week when our internet went out for 36 hours. I realized just how much time I spend thinking about the future (i.e. the things I need to do or when I do this then I can accomplish that...) and how much I am actually missing out on.
Stop wishing your time away and start cherishing all the moments.
Even the moments that have you frustrated and even the moments that make that vein on your forehead pulse (like me)! Take a deep breath, hold it, let it out, and move on because there will be a time when the house is super quiet and we will miss all the madness!

This episode is a 'just because' episode. I didn't plan it, outline it, or anything. I just thought to myself, "Hey - I want to share this info with my girls."
Take a minute and think about those times in your life when you are stopped dead in your tracks. You think to yourself, "what just happened here?" Was it fate, coincidence or was it a Godwink? I'm currently obsessed with Squire Rushnell's book, The Godwink Effect.
In this book, Rushnell describes a Godwink as a "coincidence that isn't a coincidence." He says, "it may be an answered prayer, a perfectly timed message, or an amazing series of events. These Godwinks are God's way of showing He knows you and cares about you! And the Godwink Effect is a series of ripples that result from a single Godwink - affecting not only you but rippling out to bless others as well."

Do you feel stressed at the end of each day because you didn’t get all the “THINGS” done on your to-do list? Do you wish you had just a few more hours in each day? Don’t worry my friend, you are not alone! I, too, spent many days feeling just like you! Since I began time blocking my schedule my life has been changed!!!
My productivity has increased dramatically and I can now have more fun with my kids. I can focus on my teens & preteen without worrying about that silly todo list. I am able to be a more relaxed Mama. We all know that working from home can be very challenging but when you are intentional with your time, it is amazing how much you can get done in just a few hours a day.

In this episode, I am opening up about some of the struggles we are facing with our teens. They don't listen, they "lounge" all the time, and they are irresponsible. Does this sound familiar to you? It's time to be brutally honest! I'm bossy! How can I curb the control freak from within? If you have tips or ideas that you have implemented in your home or that you think would be helpful then make sure you reach out and share them with me!

I am interviewing Dr. Kristy Hagar in today's episode. Dr. Hagar is a child, teen, and young adult psychologist. We talk openly about how to communicate when teens are trying to shut you out, how much responsibility should teens have, and what to do when they start hanging out with the wrong kid or crowd.

This week I interviewed my middle son, Luke. We attempted this interview earlier in the week but I forgot to record our interview. SO, we tried it again the next day and I got it right! I thought it would be fun to hear his insight on what life is like in isolation. We kept it pretty light-hearted as it felt good to giggle and be silly.

What is this new reality of ours? This is not how I planned for my very first episode to go but it just felt appropriate for me to share my thoughts as we start this journey.
