Jennie Matthias didn’t aspire to be a singer; she didn’t know she had the voice for the job. It was an accidental “audition” for a bunch of ex-Bodysnatchers looking to form a new band which led to Jennie becoming the lead singer of a band which would later be known as The Belle Stars. Jennie Mathias is our guest on this episode of Revenge of the 80s Radio
During our conversation, Jennie tells her story about how she became the frontwoman for the Belle Stars, how the band’s name (which they did not have at their first performance) came about, her career, post-Belle Stars collaborations, solo recordings, picking herself up from rock bottom and inspiring others to do the same through her anti-drugs work, many charity efforts and her book: Surviving the Storm, In addition, we air a new track finished a short time ago.
In the early days of Revenge of the 80s Radio, I used to cover and review concerts somewhat regularly. During one at Jones Beach in 2009 which featured several artists of the 80s, I met backstage a rather talented percussionist, Lily Gonzalez, who was playing with ABC at the time. Since, she has worked with several classic alternative acts, most recently (and currently) with Tony Hadley. Lily has a new album out titled Sink or Swim; she will be our guest on this episode of Revenge of the 80s Radio.
Lily talks about how she became one of the classic alternative community's most in-demand percussionists and her recent work with Hadley. We also discuss some of the tracks on her album, Lily's own funky-jazzy combo sound and writing two of the songs featured on Sink or Swim with Nik Kershaw including the single "I Like You Better When You're Gone."

Andy Prieboy is back on Revenge of the 80s Radio with his new Anti-Anthology, One and One Make Three: Forgotten, Abandoned, Unfinished Songs, 1979-2021.
I call this an "anti-anthology" as most artists would place their most well-known music on their regular anthologies, but Prieboy created this album for music lovers to hear new renditions of music which was shelved, unfinished or perhaps left in a suitcase for decades which they most likely have not heard from back in his days on the San Francisco punk/new wave scene with Eye Protection, through the Wall of Voodoo and solo years and into the most recent decade. As Andy looks back at his younger self within this collection, he invites us to do the same and meet the 20 and 30 year old him through these creations.
During our conversation, Andy Prieboy reveals the stories behind some of the songs, how one of these tracks set off a timeline which would bring him from the San Francisco Bay to Los Angeles, his looking to find a band and how Andy met a fellow who worked in a store across the street from where he was employed which would change the trajectory of his own music career. Prieboy also tells of a song which could have been on the Seven Days in Sammystown album but wound up locked in a suitcase for decades and how he put many of the other tracks together with a plethora of excellent guest musicians.

Steven Jones and Logan Sky have new music once again and they join Chris Cordani on Revenge of the 80s Radio to talk about it. We discuss Steven and Logan’s new single, “The Last Man in Europe,” which will be part of their next EP, as well as more of their recent projects.

We always enjoy the formation of a new supergroup of classic alternative artists; the newest is Night Crickets with David J. (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets), Victor DeLorenzo (Violent Femmes) and multi-instrumentalist Darwin Meiners. The trio were working together on a project, which evolved into the formation of a band with its David Lynch-inspired name.
In this episode of Revenge of the 80s Radio, David J. talks with Chris about Night Crickets, their first album, A Free Society, how they melded together and stories behind some of their tracks. After our conversation, we play their “Candlestick Park” song which centers around a personal story involving the Beatles’ last live concert (at the titular stadium).
Marshall Crenshaw re-released his #447 album and joins Chris on Revenge of the 80s Radio to talk about it. The new recording of the album features two new tracks, “Will of the Wind” and “Santa Fe,” the latter being a cover of a Gregg Turner song.

Gregson co-founded Any Trouble while he was in college. The group evolved into one with a unique take on the new wave scene with a unique British rock/Americana hybrid sound. After the breakup, Gregson embarked on a solo career and a series of musically diverse collaboration efforts including Gregson & Collister, 3 Boxes, Raggedy Ass and many others.
Peter Coyle is our guest on this episode of Revenge of the 80s Radio. We talk with the Lotus Eaters' co-founder about his career, the early days, his influences, solo career and songwriting philosophy.

Remember the Dog Police? The band with the novelty hit "Dog Police" is really a snazzin' new wave-jazz-multi genre fusion band our of Memphis called the Tony Thomas Trio. While this explains the high quality of the music in the group's only album under that moniker, we hear more of the story about the song, video, LP and the band's full musical range from co-founder Tony Thomas.

It was August 1, 1981 when MTV launched and changed the course of music history in several ways. Music videos were on the rise and soon became a necessity for artists to earn airplay on the specialized cable channel, which would gain popularity over the next few years thanks to encouraging people to call their cable carrier and tell them: "I Want My MTV." In the coming years, MTV would be a worldwide phenomenon and a real hit-maker, introducing its viewers to multiple modern music genres and offering "Closet Classics."

Marcella Detroit talks with Chris about her upcoming new album, Gold, on Revenge of the 80s Radio this week.
The new creation is a collection of some of the around 70 songs Marcella composed during the COVID-related government shutdowns in celebration of 50 years in the music business, starting with touring with Bob Seger. While Gold is coming out soon, Marcella has already released her first single from it titled "Vicious Bitch," an ode to Mother Nature. The next track, "Alien 2 Me" will also be coming out soon.

Katrina Leskanich is back on with us on this edition of Revenge of the 80s Radio, this time with a new album: Hearts, Loves and Babys. The new creation is reflective and autobiographical in many ways with varied styles among its tracks from the classic Katrina to some power ballads, a bit of Celtic and early jazz.

As part of a new age of alternative comedy in Great Britain, The Young Ones combined amped-up slapstick, surrealism, non-sequiturs, music, a hamster, talking household objects, featured guests, social commentary, Cliff Richard references and the nation’s traditional brand of comedy to create the immortal 12-episode series.
In honor of the groundbreaking program, we play not only songs from the episodes’ musical guests, but others which were used during the show’s run spanning from the birth of rock onward as well as solo projects and a charity recording from Mayall, Ryan, Edmonson, Planer and Richard.

This week on Revenge of the 80s Radio, Suzi Quatro is back on with us and with a new album, The Devil in Me. The album, produced by her son Richard Tuchey, features Suzi spanning genres from her classic sound, to the blues, moving ballads, some modern rock and a hint of smooth jazz-rock back to a potential Detroit anthem titled “Motor City Riders.”
Suzi did not waste any time during the Covid-inspired government shutdowns; in addition to recording The Devil in Me, she wrote two books and a screenplay. We talk about all of that and plans to hit the road post-restrictions.
This week on Revenge of the 80s Radio, Clive Parker talks with Chris about his newest musical project, Coneboy. The collaboration with Marshall Star’s album, titled The Shape of Things to Come, is a release from Parker’s Furry Records and features both excerpts as well as concepts from his 2018 book, Coneboy.
Parker is best know as a drummer for several bands including The Members, Big Country, Spizzenergi (and other incarnations) as well as his own solo work. During our conversation, Parker talks about how he got into the early punk scene, how much of an inspiration Keith Moon was to his being attracted to the drums and plans to hit the road with the Coneboy project.
This week on Revenge of the 80s Radio, Producer, Musician, Innovator (and sometimes actor) Don Dixon talks with Chris about a new live album featuring him, Chris Stamey, Mitch Easter and several people out of the Winston-Salem music scene of the late 70s and 80s titled: Yesterday's Tomorrow: Celebrating the Winston-Salem Sound. It's a live recording of a special 2018 concert featuring members of what has been dubbed "The Combo Corner."
The album is due out on May 7th; the performance featured original members of bands including Arrogance, Little Diesel, Sacred Irony, and Rittenhouse Square —including Mitch Easter (Let’s Active); Peter Holsapple, Will Rigby, and Chris Stamey (the dB’s); singers Don Dixon, Dale Smith, Lynn Blakey, Bob Northcott; and many others — as they played together on May 12, 2018, at Winston-Salem’s Ramkat club. With the added excellence of the Occasional Orchestra (live strings, percussion, and brass), music direction by Doug Davis (Vagabond Saints’ Society), and stops along the way for affectionate renditions of then-favorites by Bubble Puppy, the Easybeats, the Music Machine, the Electric Prunes, the Beatles, and even Kool and the Gang, there is a lot for music lovers to appreciate in Yesterday's Tomorrow.

In the band are Musker, Elizabeth Lamers, Jeff Hull and Marty Walsh – four good friends who were well-respected songwriters, singers and musicians working in the LA music scene with artists ranging from Queen to Bucks Fizz to Jennifer Rush to Linda Ronstadt. Producer Tony Vacari (Billy Idol, Prince among many others), sowed the idea of putting out the self-titled album this year, over 30 years after its creation.

This week on Revenge of the #80s Radio, we pay tribute to Carmine Capobianco, the star of several horror/slasher/sci-fi movies including Psychos In Love, Galactic Gigolo and Cemetery High. Carmine passed away on January 9th after a long battle with cancer.
I had the privilege of meeting a lot of good people through my radio career and Carmine is one of them. Thus, as a salute to him, we will re-play our 2011 interview together in hour 2 of this week's show.
He was an extremely nice guy, I enjoyed the time I spent with him at the occasional horror convention and his excellent taste in humor. RIP Carmine Capobianco

James King of James King and the Lonewolves talks with Chris on Revenge of the 80s Radio.
