Radio Active is an urban community radio station catering to diverse and heterogeneous groups in Bangalore, licensed to JGI.
Launched in 2007, the station is a platform for different communities (by interest and by geographical area, including NGOs, other institutions) to converge/unite, share ideas, encourage creative expressions, raise issues (civic and social rights), promote local talent, foster local traditions, sensitize on issues of importance. Radio Active seeks to promote inclusion, good governance, policy advocacy issues and enhance community cohesion by dialogues

Stay away from people with cough, cold, and fever. If at all forced to stay with them then maintain a 6-feet distance and use a mask around them

Eat only fresh and homemade food, drink lots of water

Avoid being part of groups or crowded places, because this will lead to increase in the spread of infections

Wash your hands regularly with soap solution - this should be done a minimum of 8 times a day. Also use an alcohol-based sanitiser

This entrepreneur found retirement happiness in Home Composting and #Gardening
Rajini Bopaiah is a former lecturer and entrepreneur, who found her happiness in home composting and gardening, after her retirement. A resident of HSR Layout for over 23 years, she had a chance to attend two events on segregation and composting in her area and was hooked. She started with a flower garden and converted that to a kitchen garden. She equates home composting and the Swachagraha campaign to that of ISRO Rocket launch and she believes that the act of managing your waste responsibly is equal to a national celebration. An active volunteer of HSR Citizen Forum, she also conducts workshops for residents on home composting.
RJ Priyanka Divaakar R met with Padmashree Mahesh, a commerce graduate and a volunteer member of the HSR Citizens Forum. She believes in leading a simple life by putting into practice a lifestyle that believes in being eco friendly and sustainable.
A strong advocate of compost, grow and cook
For SwachaGraha, RJ Priyanka met with Krupa Seetharam, who is a mathematician by training, a software engineer by profession, and a volunteer at the HSR Citizens Forum.
Krupa has been composting waste at home for the past three years. In this episode, she speaks about her failed attempts in the initial years and her determination to perfect the method. An expert hand today, she now champions #homecomposting and believes that composting is neither tiring nor does it consume much time.
Krupa considers compost 'Black Gold' and urges more and more citizens of #Bangalore to take up #composting.
RJ Priyanka met with Jayanthi Srikant , an environmentalist and an active volunteer of HSR Citizen Forum, for a new episode of SwachaGraha the show dedicated to highlighting stories of sustainable living.
Jayanthi restarted composting about 2-and-a-half years back after having tried and given up on it some years earlier. Now, she composts all her wet waste, and she was happy to share her experiences with us.
Jayanthi's family is small but the household produces a lot of wet waste as the members eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. She follows an eco-friendly lifestyle and encourages others to do so as well.
Valli Srinivasan is resident of Bengaluru from 2012. In 2012 the apartment she was staying started segregating and SWMRT members came up with segregation at home. Lalitha, friend of her from SWMRT started one week challenge with her group of friends.

Disha is an animal rights and environmental rights activist who works at the plant-based dairy company, Goodmilk. Born in Bengaluru, Atha studies in Eastern Europe and is dedicating his gap year to applying what he has learned in Environmental Science class in school to help fight the climate crisis in India. He speaks about how Fridays For Future came to be, led by the protests of the now iconic Swedish teenage activist, Great Thunberg. Fridays For Future is composed of school-children and young persons, like Thunberg, and would mount protests on Fridays, taking a leave from school with the belief that there is no point in going if the future remains threatened by climate change. "We were really lucky to have found him on Instagram," Disha says about Atha. "We started the Bangalore Chapter back in March when the first Global Strike was taking place. FFF Bangalore has over 200 members now, all of whom are very active. Most of it is voluntary and most of it is student-run.
"The Global Climate Strike ran from September 20 to 27. Fridays For Future was one of the major groups lead this youth effort to rally in favour of climate action that is immediate and intensive.

'Plogging' is a Swedish phrase that became popular in 2016. It is inspired from the Swedish words 'plocka upp' and is a combination of the words - jogging and picking up litter. Plogging works very well in the wild and on beaches.
For Jacob, it started at Kodaikanal where he has a small house by a forest. "Once, I saw a heap of waste and some animals were eating into it. So I started clearing it up; it has just continued and more people have joined the effort." Jacob also threw a party called 'Plogging Party' which close to 30 people joined. Now, whereever he and his friends travel to, they share the news of plogging.
