Join Matt as he explores for the first time why is Star Trek the cultural phenomenon that it is today. But since there are over 740+ hours of Star Trek Episodes and 13 movies, Brent's challenge will be to find the best 150 or so that best represent what Star Trek is, the story of Star Trek, and paint Gene Roddenberry's vision of the Future.
I'm not actually sure when this particular episode was recording or for what purpose, but it's one that has never been released anywhere, until now. This might have actually been our very first Extra Viewing, but I wouldn't swear to it. So I just found it actually, so we are extending this set by 1 more episode...unless I find more. :-)

It's been a while since we've had a new series. So we do the thing in this episode where we not only talk about the episode itself, but we meet the new crew, the new ship, and set the stage for where we are going as finish out this podcast.
In this episode, the first starship Enterprise, the NX-01, launches humanity into deep space, with a mission to return a klingot...I mean klingon...to his homeworld. But of course it's never as easy as it sounds, as this new crew is about to find out. How does Matt like this new crew and the idea of a series as a prequel? Let's jump in and find out.

With the war raging on, a discouraged Sisko is thinking about calling it quits, when the prophets intervene with a vision that recasts the DS9 crew in 1950s America, with Sisko as a struggling science fiction writer facing blatant racism.
This episode is a clear stab at dealing with racism even in our modern day. So to help us with this one, we bring in friend of the show, and voice on Anti-Racism education, Jessica Eaton. This is not just a normal episode of Beam Me Up; this is the most important episode we’ve ever done.

It's three months into the Dominion War and things aren't going so well for the Federation, except for the fact that Dukat has been unable to bring down the minefield blocking the wormhole. That's when Sisko and crew are tasked with a mission to destroy the Dominion's supply depot of Ketracel-White, potentially eliminating the Jem'Hadar as a threat.

It's a rare 3-parter here at Beam Me Up, and oh my Borg is it a dousey. We gain a new cast member, say goodbye to a cast member, and make a complete shift in how Voyager will play out going forward. In this episode, the Voyager crew come across an alien enemy more powerful than the Borg, and they're bent on the destruction of our galaxy. But the Doctor develops a weapon that can be used against them. Janeway forges a shaky alliance with the Borg to the defeat the new enemy, but when she's betrayed by the only remaining drone on the ship, they sever her link to the collective. As her humanity begins to reassert itself, Kes's telepathic powers grow out of control, and she chooses to leave the ship. It's a jam packed trilogy of episodes, but will Matt like it? Will he think it's just a cool bit of television, or will he find a deeper message embedded in the story? Let's find out.

Brent invites on John, host of the Trek Profiles Podcast, to discuss Voyager Season Four and find out which episodes are essential, which ones aren't, and which ones are good, but go the Extra Viewing List.

This is a longer episode than normal, but that's really just because along with the plot of the episode, we have a lot of new characters, a new setting, a new tone, and more to discuss. We promise, next week we're back to our normal run time.
We begin our run through Deep Space Nine! It's a new crew, a new "ship", a new set of stories, but the same #StarTrek. What does Matt think? He used the word, "Mess." Listen in and find out what does he means!

THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS! It's that Episode! Trekkies know the one we're talking. Picard is relieved of command and sent on a secret mission where he is captured and tortured by the Cardassians. Meanwhile, back on the Enterprise, the new captain, Jellico, is shaking things up...like by making Troi wear a uniform.
But this episode is saying a lot more, and even setting us up for our run at Deep Space Nine. Matt was so excited to talk about this episode, he even forgot one of his duties for this show. Find out more on this episode.

When CBS decided to release Star Trek: The Next Generation, they celebrated each season's release by showing two episodes from each season in the theaters. The Measure of a Man is perhaps THE seminal episode of season 2 of Star Trek: The Next Generation. It's the one where Data goes on trial to determine his status as a living being. Matt wasn't as big of a fan of Wrath of Khan as Brent thought he might be, but how does Matt, our Trek Newbie, handle the movie that is generally considered to be the most accessible to non-trek fans? This is also one of the most well loved movies featuring the TOS cast, but what does someone who is new to the Star Trek Franchise think nearly 30 years later? We will explore that and more as Matt takes us through his first viewing of this seminal movie, and Brent gives all of the background info and guides us through this viewing.

This episode is Yesteryear (From the animated series)
In this episode, we stop off at the Animated Series to do a perfunctory check in, but it winds up being much more than that. This is the one episode of TAS that is confirmed multiple times as being canon, and it really expands on Spock and his background. The Guardian of Forever is back. And we meet Spock's pet teddy bear with 9 inch fangs, as a young Spock is forced to make a hard, but morally correct decision that would go on to affect the present day Spock that we know and love.
