In this episode, we chat with Allie Valdetara of Ladies in Wadies. Growing up in the 'outdoors-adjacent' landscape of North Jersey, Allie's childhood was filled with imaginative adventures, from exploring her backyard to lakeside fishing. But for her, the joy of the outdoors was in sharing it with others. After college she struggled to carve out time to get outside - at least until remote working gained popularity. Allie bought a fly rod and hit the road with her friend. A couple months later while sitting at a brewery in Bozeman they convinced themselves to start the account Ladies in Wadies. What began as a lighthearted space to share silly moments evolved into an inclusive community celebrating impromptu fishing trips, 9 am beers, and mustache selfies. They showcase the goofy side of fishing while normalizing the learning curve, whether you're a novice or a pro. If you're just getting started on your fishing journey or seeking a community that revels in the joy of the outdoors without taking themselves too seriously, this episode's for you!

Motivated by her own experiences in precarious trail situations, she joined the Lakes Region Search & Rescue team, a group of over 70 volunteers collaborating with Fish and Game to respond to incidents in the region. If you're curious about the intricacies of search and rescue missions or seeking valuable safety insights for your next trail adventure, this episode's for you!

In this episode, we chat with Erica Nelson, also known as The Awkward Angler. Erica's journey into the great outdoors wasn't always a straightforward path. Growing up, she had little interest in outdoor activities. The idea of getting hot and sweaty outside just didn't do it for her. However, everything changed during her college years when she decided to enroll in a yoga elective. Yoga introduced her to mindfulness and a deeper connection with herself. One day, she took her practice outdoors, and the experience changed everything. Erica's newfound appreciation for the outdoors led her to explore hiking. With each bend in the trail, she discovered new wonders and a growing sense of curiosity. Her adventurous spirit eventually led her on a backpacking journey in Alaska, an adventure that evolved into a search and rescue mission. Yet, even this experience failed to deter her passion for the outdoors. Driven by her insatiable curiosity, Erica delved into outdoor education, eventually discovering her love for fly fishing. Not only does she pursue this passion wholeheartedly, but she also shares it with others, particularly women, to ignite their own curiosity for the great outdoors. If you've ever wondered how leaning into your curiosity can lead to boundless adventures, then this one's for you!

In this episode, we chat with Ron Lahout, a third-generation owner of Lahout's Ski Shop - an iconic store and America's oldest ski shop. The story of Lahout's is a journey through time and a testament to the enduring passion for the outdoors, skiing, and community. The legacy began in 1920 when Lahout's started as a modest general store. However, it was in 1935 that Joe Lahout, Ron's father, took the reins of the family business. Joe's deep love for skiing, the great outdoors, and, most importantly, his commitment to the local community became the driving forces behind the shop's success. By the 1980s, Ron, along with his brothers, took the helm of Lahout's, not only to manage the shop, but also to preserve their father's legacy. As the Lahout family expanded their shop's presence across New Hampshire, they remained rooted in their humble beginnings, while staying connected with their community and the world of outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you're an outdoor history junkie, an aspiring entrepreneur, or simply intrigued by tales of enduring family legacies, this episode's for you.

In this episode we chat with Nicole Llinas, the Executive Director of Current Problems. As a kid in Georgia, Nicole created miniature museums in her yard, charging neighbors and family to see her eclectic collections, ranging from dried snail shells to rocks and mud creations. Her move to Florida at the age of 10 only increased her love for the world's natural beauty, including freshwater springs and coastal beaches. During her time at the Alachua Conservation Trust, Nicole experienced something that stuck with her. One day the leader of their group, a botanist, suddenly stopped the truck they were in, stepped out, and sat down in a ditch to admire a single flower by the roadside. This seemingly insignificant moment left a mark on her, inspiring her to appreciate the small details in nature as a part of the greater work of conservation. Nicole realized that she wanted to be the kind of leader who could pause amidst the chaos to cherish the beauty of nature, no matter how tiny, in her journey to protect it. Now she's leading with action as the Executive Director of Current Problems. They're on a mission to address the alarming issue of marine debris originating from freshwater systems, with studies showing that a staggering 80% of marine debris can be traced back to these sources. Since 1993 they've removed over 1,068,102 pounds of waste, making a big impact. If you've ever wondered what it takes to maintain a grassroot organization, or how we're all connected, no matter where we live, then this one's for you!

In this episode we chat with James, aka The Ethnic Explorer, who is about vanlife and uncovering black history, all while inspiring others to do the same. Growing up in a small Virginia town, James's love for the outdoors started in the woods, often accompanied by his trusty feline companion, Smokey. As he grew older, his passion for the outdoors remained steadfast, but it all changed while working at a dealership. A routine task of driving a customer's van to the service center opened up James' eyes to a new way to adventure. The fully converted van was decked out with a bed and living amenities. James thought to himself, "Oh the adventures I could take in this." He took his old basketball team's Astro Van, $500 and scrap wood from his parents remodeling project and created his own van that was ready for any adventure. But James's adventures are not solely about breathtaking landscapes; they are also a voyage into history. His travels serve as a gateway to discovering the often untold stories of African American heritage, elevating the impact of his expeditions. With each trip, he documents his experiences on YouTube, inviting others to join his mission of exploration and discovery. Through his platform, he seeks to inspire individuals to break free from their comfort zones, embrace vanlife, and engage with the world around them on a deeper level. If you've ever dreamed about vanlife, uncovering hidden stories, or simply seeking inspiration to push your boundaries, this episode's for you!

These journeys allowed them to step away from the demands of motherhood, reconnect with nature, and deepen their connection with God. Most importantly, it provided them with the opportunity to recharge and gain a fresh perspective when returning to their families. Inspired by their own experiences, Sara and Morgan realized that other moms could benefit from similar adventures and soul-nourishing moments. Thus, Wild & Free Mamas was born. What started as small meetups has evolved into exciting weekend adventures that impact moms from all walks of life. By drawing moms out of their comfort zones and into the realm of adventure, Wild & Free Mamas creates a space for deep connection and courage, fostering lasting growth in their identities and relationships with others and with God. Because after all, every mama needs periodic time to recharge, connect, and have fun. If you've ever wondered about the power of adventure to bring joy, renewal, and courage into your life, or if you seek a space to connect with like-minded moms and embark on meaningful journeys, then this episode's for you!

In this episode we chat with Benjamin Morris, the Development Director at Outdoor Recreation Alliance Trails. Benjamin's love for spending time in nature was ingrained from an early age, with the great lakes and rivers of Michigan serving as his playground. Saving to buy his first kayak, he explored picturesque rivers and canals. Witnessing the revitalization of the Detroit River also instilled in him an appreciation for the importance of preserving and restoring natural spaces. During college, despite being a track runner, Benjamin often found himself drawn to camping and hiking, recognizing the therapeutic and transformative power of nature. Grad school allowed him to explore the Driftless area, study abroad in Germany, and learn from the wisdom of the Ojibwe People. After moving to Detroit, he experienced firsthand the impact of limited outdoor access. Then the opportunity to relocate to La Crosse, Wisconsin, arose, leading Benjamin to discover Outdoor Recreation Alliance (ORA). Never expecting to work for such an organization, he now serves as the Development Director, channeling his nonprofit leadership experience and passion for community building to propel ORA's incredible mission forward. They're building happy, healthy, and resilient communities by providing access to equitable and sustainable outdoor recreation experiences. If you've ever wondered about the importance of outdoor communities, or why you should give everyone an invitation to explore the outdoors, then this one's for you!

Born and raised in the beautiful landscapes of western Virginia, Travis developed a deep appreciation for nature from an early age. After high school, he decided to serve his country in the Marine Corps, where he gained an understanding and respect for the diverse lifestyles that shape America. In this episode we interview Christina who started Girls Outdoors Club. Christina grew up in Colorado but surprisingly didn't enjoy the outdoors as a kid, even though her parents put her on skis before she could walk. It wasn't until college that she truly reconnected with nature, using hiking as a way to reset from the stresses of classes. It became more than just an escape when she decided to live in a cabin in the mountains by herself. Around this time Christina also noticed the two extremes for women in the outdoors. Either they were hitting fourteeners or they weren't. It seemed like a weird stigma to put on women in the outdoors. Why can't you have a full face of makeup out on the trail or not wear any at all? To change that, she started Girls Outdoors Club to bring that feminine energy to the outdoors while motivating and building community. If you've ever wondered how we can make the outdoors less intimidating while encouraging more women to get outside, then this episode's for you!

In this episode we interview Phebe Lahout, who grew up in America’s oldest ski shop and now oversees marketing at Seirus. During high school when Phebe wasn’t running around Lahout’s Ski Shop in New Hampshire, she could be found downhill skiing. Rather than following the family footsteps after graduating, she attended San Diego University. She was outside of her comfort zone, but was up for the challenge. Soon after college she found an opportunity with Seirus, which creates high quality gear for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy cold weather. Being a brand that Lahout’s Ski Shop carries, there was familiarity, but that wasn't the only thing that attracted her. Seirus focuses their efforts on making the outdoors more accessible by partnering with nonprofits that provide opportunities for kids that might otherwise not have the chance - all while amplifying their voice. If you've ever wondered how the oldest ski shop in America got started or how brands can make a difference by promoting outdoor activities for all, then this episode's for you!

In this episode we interview Laura Rodriguez and Mary Traylor of Justice Outside. Growing up in LA, Mary always loved the outdoor access it had to offer. She also enjoyed her experiences at an immersive outdoor camp, which influenced her future. Prior to becoming the Director of Programs at Justice Outside she was an educator. This opened her eyes to the lack of outdoor access kids of color had - even though it was in their own backyard. Laura grew up in rural California on a dairy farm, where she spent her childhood running around and exploring the outdoors. Even after all that, it wasn't until 29 that she started camping and truly took on outdoor recreational activities. Like Mary, Laura also noticed that people that looked like her weren't participating in these same adventures. For her it was about the duality of what is real about representation and lack of access to the many ways to participate in the outdoors. Now at Justice Outside, they're helping advance racial justice and equity in the outdoor and environmental movement. If you've ever wondered how your small actions can help provide welcoming outdoor access for all, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview California's Deputy Secretary for Access, Katherine Toy. Growing up in San Francisco, Katherine has always loved the state of California and its outdoor resources. As a Girl Scout she enjoyed camping trips and learning survival tactics, but enjoyed being a leader while making a difference in her community the most. Then there was history. After finding an old box of family photos showing her Chinese American heritage, all she wanted was to learn more. This inspired her to become a history teacher and show her students that history doesn't have to happen to them, rather they can make history for themselves. Over the years Katherine's love for both history and the outdoors led her to transitioning away from the classroom and into the parks. Now as California's Deputy Secretary for Access, Katherine is helping expand equitable outdoor access to public lands, museums and historic spaces within the state. If you've ever wondered how history and a passion for service can make a difference in the outdoors, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview Kate and Brooke of Jacob's Chance. Kate started Jacob's Chance 15 years ago after seeing parents with their kids on the baseball field instead of in the stands. As she got closer she saw they were down there because the children had disabilities. Kate realized she had taken for granted being able to proudly watch her own kids from the stands. Why couldn't those parents experience the same feeling? After rallying volunteers she kicked off their first program - Buddy Ball. It allowed parents to get off of the field and watch their kids from the stands. From there they grew to arts, social and even outdoor programs. Last year alone Jacob's Chance served over 500 families. If you've ever wondered how a big heart can change peoples lives, then this one's for you!

During college she expanded those adventures to things like rock climbing and backpacking. After graduating Meg found herself working within the outdoor industry and always writing. Not only for publications such as Field & Stream Magazine, but for herself as well. Soon she published the book, 'The Outdoor Minimalist', which focuses on wasting less while hiking, backpacking and camping. 'The Outdoor Minimalist Podcast' became an extension of the book as a way to expand her message. Each episode Meg sits down with industry experts and sustainable brands to discuss ways to be mindful of your impact on the environment with every adventure. If you've ever wondered how you can be more intentional with the decisions you make in the outdoors, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview Justin Yoder of LGBT+ Outdoors. Growing up in a small town in Missouri, Justin was no stranger to the outdoors. Always camping and exploring, his love for being outside continued to grow. He also had a love for Africa - with Nat Geo being to blame. Justin decided to start a nonprofit to support the children of Africa while combating Aids/HIV. Shortly after he 'came out', and while navigating his new journey came to a realization - there was an inherent lack of diversity present in the outdoor space for the LGBT+ community. This discovery inspired him to start LGBT+ Outdoors as a safe haven for others to share their love for the outdoors. Now with local chapters across the country, clinics and special events, their nonprofit is impacting hundreds. If you've ever wondered why the outdoors is for everyone and how you can change your way of thinking, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview Nicole Hamel who is a hiker, explorer and traveling nurse. Growing up in Massachusetts, getting outside to ski and snowboard on the White Mountains was a norm. She even hiked Mount Washington at only 6 years old. As Nicole got older, she lost interest in the outdoors - at least until college. A group of friends doing the New Hampshire 48 invited her on a hike. Uncomfortable, out of shape and slow - they didn't invite Nicole on another hike. Little did she know this would spark something within her. She soon found herself hiking regularly, building her strength and always in search of the next trail. Nicole couldn't get enough of how she felt both mentally and physically after a hike. The best part? Being a traveling nurse let her explore new cities, hike new trails and meet new people. The flexibility also allowed her to take months off at a time, which was perfect for her dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail; which she completed in 2022. If you've ever wondered how nursing and adventure can go hand in hand, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview Colin Harris of Take Me Outside. Growing up in Canada, Colin had a great appreciation for its vast landscape. He was also inspired by Terry Fox's story; the man who ran across Canada to raise awareness for cancer. This inspiration turned to a dream, and eventually a reality. But Colin wanted to raise awareness for something else - outdoor education. He founded Take Me Outside and set off across the country. Along the way, he stopped at 80 schools and engaged 20,000 students in the conversation of how to be active and connected to nature. The mission didn't stop there. Now, Take Me Outside works with organizations, school boards and individuals on initiatives that encourage thousands of youth to spend more time outside and less in front of a screen. If you've ever wondered the benefits of the outdoors and the impact it can have, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview Sydney Williams of Hiking My Feelings. After being a recently diagnosed diabetic and quitting two jobs, Sydney hiked atop a mountain in hopes to find the answers she was looking for. Rather than stunning 360º views, the only thing to see were clouds. Still, Sydney felt a certain calm. The reason? Because instead of eating and drinking her feelings, she was hiking her feelings. A light bulb went off. Next thing she knew she sold everything to hit the road, share her story and introduce others the healing powers of nature. Over 5 years later her nonprofit is helping hundreds reconnect with themselves and reconnect with nature. If you've ever wondered how simple it is to find wellness in the wilderness, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview Alex Bailey of Black Outside. As a kid Alex fell in love with the outdoors every time he visited his grandparent's farm and helped in their garden. There was just something about getting his hands dirty. During summer break in college he decided to be a camp counselor and the experience transformed his lens on the power that nature has on youth. One day while chasing waterfalls (and jumping in them) Alex noticed there weren't any kids around that looked like him. He knew that needed to change, but saved that thought for another date. Later he joined Teach For America, where his memory of the waterfall was sparked. Alex needed to find a way to send kids of color to summer camps like he experienced. So what did he do? Start Black Outside, a nonprofit that reconnects Black and African/American youth with the outdoors. Now they're giving hundreds of kids the opportunity to get outside. If you've ever wondered how a simple passion can make a big impact, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview eco-explorer Mario Rigby. Born in Turks & Caicos, Mario spent his childhood in Germany, before moving to Toronto as a teen. The city changed his perspective of the outdoors, until one day he decided to walk the length of Africa. While training, he reconnected with nature, much as he did on the island with his brother. But what inspired him to take on such a feat? Mario had aspirations of becoming a track and field olympian and was competing at the highest level. That was until lack of funding and injuries put things on pause. He fell back on a 9 to 5, but as an olympian, that wasn't going to cut it. Mario missed the challenges of competition. He decided to rekindle his drive by exploring places others would only see in National Geographic - to entrench himself in their culture and stories while sharing them with the world. Mario spent 2 years trekking across Africa, an immersive experience that was more about the people than it was about the adventure. Now Mario searches for new places to travel to soak up moments and share with others. If you've ever wondered why you shouldn't live in fear and be brave enough to see the world, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview Berkeley Bryant of Blue Sky Funders Forum. Growing up in Texas, Berkeley spent a lot of time running around outside. In middle school she stumbled upon Sea Camp, which took her love for the outdoors to the next level. With her mind set on being a marine biologist, things took a turn when Berkeley realized she didn't want to study nature - she wanted to conserve it. That led her to earn a degree in environmental education and eventually became the social media manager at North Carolina State's College of Natural Resources. While Berkeley didn't see it at the time, this was the perfect opportunity to connect with others in the field. One recommended looking at environmental education through a different lens and suggested Blue Sky Funders Forum. It was an obvious fit for her love of the outdoors and educational background. Now as the program coordinator she's helping Blue Sky Funders Forum fulfill their mission of inspiring philanthropy that supports thriving communities by advancing equitable opportunities for meaningful outdoor experiences and connections to nature. If you've ever wondered why you should never stop chasing your passion, or why relationships are the most important aspect of any community, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview Caulin Donaldson aka TrashCaulin, who's on a mission to keep Florida beautiful by picking up trash everyday. So how did it all start? Growing up in Florida, Caulin fell in love with the ocean and sharing it with vacationers. But there's one thing he couldn't understand while renting out cabanas and jetskis. After commenting that Caulin had the best job ever working on the water all day, they'd proceed to leave with their trash scattered everywhere. How could someone that calls the beach the greatest place ever just leave it to ruin when vacation was over? Rather than being stuck looking at it all day, he decided to do something about it - start a conversation online. His documentation of daily trash cleanups snowballed into similar cleanups by others. Now he's inspiring millions to take action, while also working with local municipalities and tourists to keep their beaches clean. If you've ever wondered how awareness is so contagious, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview Lexie Gritlefeld of California Outdoor Recreation Partnership. Lexie grew up in California and through hiking, trail running and alpine skiing, naturally fell in love with the outdoors. In college she became disconnected with the outside, but that all changed when Lexie and her dad hiked Mt Whitney together. Getting back to what she loved so much as a kid was exactly what she needed. Being off the grid also gave Lexie a convenient way to disconnect from her career in politics. After spending too much money on gas to ski and snowboard at Mammoth, she decided to make the move. Not a year later Lexie took the opportunity with California Outdoor Recreation Partnership - the perfect fit for her passion for outdoor advocacy. Now as the membership director she's building a passionate community that powers a voice for the outdoor recreation industry to shape policy, support investments, and engage an inclusive community of outdoor participants in California around the benefits of outdoor recreation. If you've ever wondered how policy can shape outdoor recreation, or how you may never know when you'll stumble upon your dream job, then this one's for you!

In this episode we interview Kelsey Boyer of Save A Brain. Growing up in Pennsylvania, snowboarding consumed her life, and her parents couldn't have been more supportive. They traveled the East Coast, hitting all the local contests. Eventually it was time to chase bigger mountains out west. Kelsey landed in Mount Hood and decided to get more serious about competing. Soon she was in Breckenridge to give it one last shot. During that time she had 8+ head hits in a 2 month period. The final one left her brain bleeding, only she didn't know until 2 weeks later. She was experiencing no sleep and mood swings, but the doctors said everything was fine. Kelsey decided enough was enough and went to the ER for a CT scan. The results showed her brain was bleeding which required emergency brain surgery. Kelsey's road to recovery wasn't an easy one, but she persevered. This experience inspired her to start Save A Brain to provide education, encourage prevention and spread awareness of the long term physical and mental effects of traumatic brain injuries and concussions. If you've ever wondered how serious brain trauma can be, or why you should always bet on yourself during the hardest times, then this one's for you!

It wasn't until 2008 that they met by chance. You could say it was love at first sight (more on that in the episode), and judging how things turned out it was fate. Soon they got married and began traveling the world together. Once COVID hit they realized all they needed was each other and turned to a minimalist lifestyle. After much planning, they sold everything, bought a RV and hit the road. There were some hiccups getting started, but they made the right choice. Now they're on a mission of hitting all 50 states as they please. As he learned the tricks of the trade, he picked up various hobbies and personal projects. Brent soon found himself gravitating to one thing in particular - knife making. He and his family moved to Richmond, which is where his hobby took on a full time role. Now at Join or Die Knives he's helping others enjoy the craft, while building a community around it. At 12 his dad gave him a camera, but didn't know the impact it would have on his life. His photography evolved from casual outdoor photos with his friends to meaningful humanitarian projects. In his 20's Tommy felt that his creativity wasn't what it used to be and decided he needed to switch things up. How? By thru-hiking the 2,650 Pacific Crest Trail. It was exactly what he needed. In this episode we interview Katie McLernan of Beyond Boundaries, a nonprofit that believes adventure is for everyone. Growing up in the mountains of Charlottesville VA, Katie took the outdoors for granted. She decided to go to college at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond to get a taste of the city life. To her surprise she found herself missing the outdoors, but lucky for her it wasn't long until she saw that Richmond has a great outdoor community. A weekend camping trip inspired Katie to go all in - from hiking to rock climbing and everything in between. Both Sara and Morgan grew up loving the outdoors, but once they had children it was hard for them to find time for themselves. That was until they each were able to take their own adventure. It was as if a passion had been reignited. They realized that stepping away for themselves was exactly what they needed, and even helped them be a better mama. Soon after they formed Wild and Free Mamas to help others recharge and connect with others. With weekend adventure retreats throughout the year, they're not only helping mamas find their wild side, but also helping them reconnect with their loved ones at home. In this episode we interview Kate Mardigian of Jacob's Chance, a nonprofit that empowers individuals with developmental, intellectual, and/or physical disabilities through inclusive programs. In elementary school Kate could be found helping classmates with disabilities. Little did she know, these positive experiences would impact her entire life. One day while watching her own children play ball, she noticed a game happening on an adjacent field. The players had varying disabilities with their parents helping them. Kate wanted them to see just how great their kids were doing from the stands. With the help of some amazing volunteers, she made it happen. Soon after, Jacob's Chance was founded to offer inclusive programs promoting personal development and positive relationships. By offering things like organized sports, art, music and outdoor adventures, their impact goes further than those who they serve. If you’ve ever wondered how great things can happen through the kindness of others, then this ones for you!

In this episode we interview Brian Bell of Keep Virginia Cozy, a nonprofit that conserves lands by picking up trash, while connecting others with the outdoors. Brian grew up loving nature and quickly picked up the 'pack in, pack out' mindset. Once he moved to Richmond he began exploring all it had to offer, but wanted to do something more. After challenging his friends to go on weekend hiking trips to pick up trash, he posted it online and asked others to meetup to do the same. To Brian's surprise, quite the group showed up, and it only grew from there. Now as an official nonprofit, Keep Virginia Cozy has helped cleanup over 85,000lbs of trash, while being zero waste themselves. If you’ve ever wondered how to rally people around a simple cause, then this ones for you!

In this episode we interview Danielle Katz of Rivers for Change, a nonprofit who connects individuals to rivers through adventure, conservation and education. Growing up in California it wasn't long until Danielle fell in love with the outdoors. In fact, she was only 4 months old on her first river trip. As she got older she guided for her dad's whitewater rafting company and felt most at home on the river, sleeping under the stars. In 2009 Danielle paddled the length of the Mississippi River, which opened her eyes to just how connected our waterways are. This trip combined her passion for the river with education and conservation. This experience inspired her to start Rivers for Change as a way to connect others with rivers through adventure, conservation and education. From source to sea trips, river cleanups and more, they're making a difference - one drop at a time. If you’ve ever wondered what you can do to protect the water in which you shower, or even what it's like to paddle 2,271 miles down the Mississippi River, then this ones for you!

In this episode we interview Mike Green who is an adventure life coach and author of 'Wandermust'. Mike grew up in a small town in New York and quickly fell in love with the outdoors. In high school he decided to take a break from wrestling to do an outward bound course. Mike was hooked, but it only got better once he discovered seasonal work. He used the job flexibility to fuel his travels around the world. Eventually he settled down as a history teacher and decided to prove a point to his students that didn't believe in the kindness of others. How? By hitchhiking across the country in 10 days with no money - only his own kindness to share along the way. The culmination of Mike's life experiences inspired him to help others, by asking the right questions, leaving people better than he found them and practicing integrity with Mike Green Leadership. If you’ve ever wondered what steps you can take to take control of this adventure we call life, then this ones for you!

In this episode we interview Mark and Sarah Penewit of Mobility Duo, who through physical therapy, yoga and exercise help snowboarders ride until they're 70. Sarah was introduced to yoga as an elective in High School. Then at 18 she found snowboarding. Luckily yoga saved her when it came to the aches and pains that came with learning it. Mark had a similar experience, except with physical therapy. When the pandemic hit they shared videos of what they did to recover from hiking, backpacking and snowboarding. Soon they realized this is something the snowboarding community needed. That's when they started Mobility Duo to help others prevent these injuries or assist them after an injury has taken place. Through classes, like 'SNOGA' they're helping fellow snowboarders prolong their rides. If you’ve ever wondered what steps you can take to extend your love for action sports, then this ones for you!

Growing up in New Mexico, Holly was always out hiking, camping, and backpacking. After college she moved to Denver where she chased the typical American Dream. Only one problem - it wasn't her dream. Rather than stick to the 'normal' life, she ditched everything and moved into a van. As soon as Holly made the decision she found the freedom in her life that she was searching for. Her time on the road and camping at National Parks inspired her to help others experience the same thing. Now at Honeycomb Coaching and as the host of The Deliberate Living Podcast she not only shares stories, but gives people one on one advice. In this episode we interview Max Penny who is the one behind Mountain Movement Bike Shop and Howler Bike Park. Growing up Max had a love for action sports and started snowboarding at the age of 3. Soon he started riding BMX and eventually mountain bikes. As he got older, he added team sports into the mix and even played football for Missouri State University. While he loved the team spirit and life lessons he learned through football, Max decided it was time to hang up the cleats and get back to mountain biking. Not long after, his dad encouraged him to start Mountain Movement Bike Shop. Only a couple months in, the perfect opportunity arose to purchase a piece of land that was just begging to have a mountain bike park built on it. Next thing Max knew, Howler Bike Park was a reality. The popularity of it has been humbling, as Howler has already attracted international riders after only being open for a few months. In this episode we interview Rafael Monroy who is a tech developer by day and nature junkie by night. Growing up in Southern California Rafael didn't know his love of tacos would turn into a self made career. He wanted to create an app that helped find all the amazing hidden taco spots around California. With no coding experience he spent evenings and nights teaching himself to become a developer. While that particular app never worked out, he found a new career. But there was still something missing. It wasn't until the shutdown that he discovered what it was - the outdoors. A couple of family trips and he was instantly hooked. Short hikes soon turned into weekend camping trips - and those turned into conquering mountains that few attempt. For Rafael he has the perfect balance of solving advanced problems in the tech world and pushing his body in the hiking world. If you’ve ever wondered why it’s so important to find balance, or how the outdoors can give you a true appreciation of how easy we really have it, then this ones for you!

In this episode we interview Trent Dickson who loves the outdoors and is a serial volunteer at Beyond Boundaries, Jacob's Chance and Keep Virginia Cozy. Growing up in Kentucky, Trent's idea of a family vacation was hopping in the car, pitching a tent and getting lost in the woods with his brother. When his now wife convinced him to move to Richmond Virginia he instantly fell in love with the James River - which runs through the city. There was plenty of fishing and even more adventures, but that wasn't enough for Trent. He soon learned about the local outdoor nonprofits: Beyond Boundaries, Jacob's Chance and Keep Virginia Cozy. Immediately he jumped in to lend a hand. Not only because he loved the outdoors, but because he loved the impact they had on the community. Now, some might consider him a serial volunteer and he wouldn't have it any other way. In this episode we interview Nick and Tara of Unequipped 2 Road Trip. Before meeting each other Tara spent time traveling the world and Nick loved a good ole camping trip. When they met it was a no-brainer that their love for the outdoors and adventure would be a perfect match. That's until the COVID shutdown halted everything a couple months after they began. Lucky for them they shared the same employer and ended up working remotely together. Not long after, they began to get a little stir crazy and made a rash decision - sell their house, car and personal belongings. Why? To buy a RV and set out to see all 63 United States National Parks. In this episode we interview Zach Frantz who is an outdoor lover and owner of Wildland Coffee. Growing up in California, Zach loved the outdoors and was an entrepreneur at heart. In fact, he started an online business as a kid back in the Yahoo days. Unfortunately it didn't take off, but that didn't kill his entrepreneurial spirit. Years later, while sitting by a campfire he thought there was a better way to enjoy coffee - without all the equipment. That's when the idea for Wildland Coffee - coffee in a tea bag came to life. Sure there were other similar products out there, but they either didn't taste very good or were positioned as an alternative to your home coffee pot. Zach aligned himself with the outdoor community - showing them just how easy it was to stay caffeinated during each adventure. Taking it a step further he created his business on the foundation of sustainable practices by eliminating waste. If you've ever wondered what it's like to start a business, or how you can take the right steps to protect the outdoors in your own business, then this one's for you!

While in college he studied English, but after helping his bike shop market themselves better he decided to apply to branding school. This is where James found his true passion - and eventually a career. He enjoyed helping brands such as Capital One and the NBA tell their story, but even more so he loved helping small businesses share theirs. That's why he started TrailHead creative to help small, outdoor driven businesses. One of his favorite clients is Beyond Boundaries, a nonprofit that believes adventure is for everyone. Not only does he help share their story and impact, but he also volunteers with their many outdoor activities. For episode 100 John Holdmeier of Actual Outdoors takes over to interview Jeremy Lux - the founder of Illumine Collect and host of the Life in Motion Podcast. Jeremy grew up in a one stoplight town in Virginia. With not much to do, he fell in love with BMX and the friendships that came with it. Soon he was working at Camp Woodward, the largest action sports camp, where he met individuals from all over the world - including his wife. This opened up the opportunity to travel and see the world differently. Jeremy realized these experiences only came from his passion for BMX and he wanted to find a way to share it with others, no matter what their passion was. In 2017 he started Illumine Collect, a brand that makes adventure-inspiring apparel to build outdoor communities that give back. Each month they partner with nonprofits that are sharing outdoor experiences while making it more accessible, sustainable and welcoming. In this episode we interview Barney 'Scout' Mann who is an author, adventurer and outdoor advocate. Even though his parents weren't the outdoors type, it didn't take long for Barney to fall in love with being in nature. At age 13 his Boy Scout Troop went on a 50 mile backpacking trip in the Sierra Nevada. Barney's pack weighed half as much as he did and it poured rain the entire time. You'd think that alone would discourage him from ever stepping on a trail again - but it was the exact opposite. In fact at age 63 he conquered the Continental Divide Trail, adding to his long list of accomplishments. Now he helps others find their love for the outdoors while also protecting the trails that he loves so much. Not only because it was fun, but because it was also budget friendly. As she had her own family it was obvious that the outdoors and camping provided a sense of connection that they couldn't experience anywhere else. This made it an easy choice for any family trip - even with a budget for a 5 star hotel. Now Teresa's using her passion to help other women get outside as the Eastern Missouri chapter leader at Girl Camper. She helps inspire others by offering local tips, tricks and events to build a women focused camping community. In this episode we interview Joe Stone who is the Director of Mission at Teton Adaptive Sports. Growing up in Minneapolis, Joe's love for the outdoors came from camping with his family in Northern Minnesota. However, when he was back home he explored the concrete jungle on roller blades. This passion drove him for years, but in his 20's he moved to Montana. There he found something new - paragliding. For Joe there was no better feeling than flying. Unfortunately soon after, a tragic accident left him paralyzed. Months later, Joe remembered the sense of curiosity that led him there in the first place. He shifted his mindset and decided not to let his limitations define him. From there his adventures only got better, and his smile only got bigger. Now as the Director of Mission at Teton Adaptive Sports he's helping hundreds of others reignite their passions by showing them what is possible. Soon those afternoon sessions turned into weekend road trips. What he loved most about those adventures was the friendships and community that came with it. Next thing Luke knew, he was traveling across Europe and even made it to Camp Woodward in the summer of 2012, giving him the opportunity to make friends across the world. Unfortunately that all came to a halt after a couple of knee injuries. The doctor suggested that Luke take a step back from BMX and try road cycling instead. In this episode we interview Brandon 'Horsepower' Weis. Growing up in Ohio, Brandon didn't see much of the outdoors - at least not in the sense that he does now. That all changed when Ohio State offered him a stipend to perform a transformational experience. He was immediately interested in a month-long backpacking trip in the High Sierras - but not because it was outdoors. He wanted to do it for the challenge. After his trip he was hooked and began planning longer thru hikes to finish before he headed to grad school. Only one problem. There was a global shutdown soon after those plans were made. Rather than ditching the idea - he decided to pack all of the hikes into one year. In 2021 he hiked the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail, and Arizona Trail. In this episode we interview Alba Pardo of Women In Action Sports Network. As a girl Alba had a fascination with skateboarding, but her parents weren't so sure. Then during a family ski trip she came across the next best thing - snowboarding. As her passion for the sport grew her parents got behind her.
