Dr. Grossman explains that ERM comprises various cell types, including glial cells, retinal pigment epithelial cells, macrophages, and fibrocytes. The degree of visual distortion varies depending on the amount and location of the pucker, which can be assessed using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). Although ERM typically affects central vision and not peripheral vision, it is often asymptomatic and progresses slowly. The condition is more common in elderly individuals and is associated with other eye issues such as retinal detachment and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Grossman suggests that inflammation may play a significant role in the development of ERM, possibly exacerbated by COVID-19 or its vaccine. He recommends an anti-inflammatory diet and supplements like Zyflamend, serrapeptase, and his own Meso Plus formula, which contains carotenoids to support macular health. While traditional medicine may suggest peeling off the scar tissue, Dr. Grossman advocates for natural approaches and consulting a retinal specialist for further advice.

Different eye colors have different meanings and personality traits behind them. For example, brown eyes are extremely trustworthy while green eyes are passionate. The amount of melanin your eyes have can also have ties to future medical problems like cancer. The lighter your eyes are the more at risk you are of developing these medical problems, so it's imperative that you take the necessary precautions like wearing UV protective sunglasses. If you notice certain changes in your eyes, like reddening or yellowing of the whites of your eyes, it can signal certain health issues like allergies or jaundice.
What can you do to prevent Wet Macular Degeneration? Wet Macular Degeneration affects your center vision and your ability to read, recognize, and focus your vision. Imagine not being able to recognize your friends' or family's faces and misreading prices on items at the store. It occurs when abnormal blood vessels form in the part of the eye that allows you to see straight in front of you. These blood vessels can leak and bleed which causes you to lose your central vision and the ability to see contrasts.
There are several things you can do to lower your risk of acquiring Wet Macular Degeneration. It usually starts with Dry Macular Degeneration and then progresses towards Wet Macular Degeneration, which can cause blindness. By stopping smoking and reducing your body's overall inflammation, you can significantly reduce your risk of having macular degeneration. Eating more Omega-3 fatty acids and following a fish rich Mediterannean Diet can also help reduce your risk.
In this episode, Dr. Marc Grossman shares his best tips on living a long and health life. Taking a multivitamin, eating your daily servings of fruits and vegetables, getting enough exercise, and staying stress-free and happy can all lead to a longer, more fulfilling life.
Western Medicine focuses solely on treating health issues as they occur, which often means waiting for them to get worse before they can get better. Patients all have different experiences with their health, but they are usually all given the same medication regardless of their circumstances. Dr. Marc Grossman utilizes an Eastern Chinese Medicine approach where you look at the body, mind, and spirit to figure out the underlying issue and fix it at the root. Each individual has their own way of fixing and reversing their health problems, whether through medication or in conjunction with natural medicines, lifestyle changes, and supplements.
Why wait until it's too late to prevent or even treat eye diseases like glaucoma or cataracts? Many doctors wait until these eye-related problems require surgery to fix. In this podcast, Dr. Grossman shares stories of real clients and methods of preventing and even treating eye diseases. According to Chinese medicine, what happens in your life can affect different parts of your body. For one patient dealing with divorce and the loss of her father, that lead to her developing a cataract in only her right eye. In Chinese medicine, the right eye is the "male" eye and is related to male figures in one's life. Dr. Grossman advised her to use Cineraria eye drops and work on the problems she was facing in her life. She came back a year later and her cataract was gone.

As Shakespeare said, "The eyes are the windows to the soul." Eye care should involve addressing the body, mind, and spirit. Traditional Chinese medicine refers to the eyes as the "pilot light." Our inner vision, how we view and interpret the world, affects our outer vision, how we see. Mind/body medicine depends on all of the individual factors effectively working together. Eyesight is affected by multiple factors: genetics, the food we eat, our environments, emotional and psychological health, and our belief systems. Healthy eyesight depends on our total well-being.
Long periods of exposure to blue light can cause your eyes a great deal of fatigue. Blue light can cause many different eye issues like eye strain, dry eyes, headaches, and may even disrupt your melatonin production making it harder to fall asleep at night. It is emitted from all kinds of digital screens from your television, computer, cell phone, and even your car's digital display screen. Luckily, there are blue light glasses that you can wear that help shield your eyes from the harmful high energy light.
Not only does Ocushield have blue light protective glasses, but they also have filtered screen protectors that you can put on your devices to help further minimize your blue light exposure.

Cataracts are one of the most common conditions in people over the age of 70. Cineraria Homeopathic eye drops help to clear the crystalline lens. Cineraria Maritima is the most recommended homeopathic remedy for cataracts because of its ability to clear and dissolve obstructing fibrils in the lens. Cataracts are a condition that develops as the body ages and has a harder time providing oxygen, nutrition, detoxification, and antioxidants to the cells of the lens. Doctors recommend natural treatments that support the body's ability to maintain and clear the crystalline lens. These homeopathic eye drops encourage the body to send oxygen through the blood vessels of the eye and into the aqueous, which nourish and detoxify the living tissue. Cineraria Maritima has been used in homeopathy for over 100 years to safely and effectively treat cataracts.

The body's leading defense mechanism is the immune system, which defends against intrusive substances or microbes. Homeopathic medicine utilizes natural ingredients to trigger this immune response to heal the body. A substance that would cause disease and damage in large doses is introduced to the body in micro doses. The diluted substance is designed to trigger your body to defend or repair itself.
Manipulative, replacement, and regulatory are the three types of treatment available that directly impose change on tissue function via drugs or surgery. The first two are traditionally used by modern medicine, while the third option is used by homeopathy.
For example, eye drops typically help artificially lubricate the eye, but homeopathic eye drops help to stimulate the body’s tear production. ORTHO K Thin and Thick eye drops help stimulate tear film production, counteract irritation from allergies, and reduce foreign body sensation. Homeopathic calendula is known to support corneal health, specifically abrasions and erosions. The clarifying thin drop (contact safe) is preservative free and can be used as often as needed to alleviate dry, itchy, and irritated eyes. The clarifying thick drop is especially good before bed. These drops are great because they don't attempt to replace your tears but encourage your eyes to create their own.
There are homeopathic eye drops for many eye problems: dry eyes, cataracts, etc. Listen to the podcast and check out our website for more information - www.naturaleyecare.com
Patients with glaucoma are usually only given medicated eye drops by optometrists to lower their eye pressure. However, there are certain nutrients that can help reduce and mitigate the effects of glaucoma. Fresh maritime pine bark and bilberry are powerful antioxidants that work on the underlying symptoms of glaucoma. They neutralize harmful free radicals and promote cardiovascular health. A research study found that using pine bark and bilberry along with eye drops like Latanoprost promotes aqueous drainage. Pine bark and bilberry act on a molecular level to decrease the production of aqueous humor, improve blood vessel structure and function, and decrease resistance to fluid drainage.
Every patient who is currently taking glaucoma medication should consider adding maritime pine bark and bilberry to get the best results. Other antioxidants that are good for glaucoma are alpha-lipoic acid, glutathione, lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamin C. Laboratory studies show that antioxidants, along with regular glaucoma medication, reduce the risk factors from glaucoma.

Angiogenesis is the unwanted growth of blood vessels in the retina that leads to vision loss. These excess blood vessels can obscure or distort vision, which damages the eye and may result in permanent damage. Eye doctors may give you injections of Eylea or Lucentis to inhibit the growth of these blood vessels, but some may want a more natural approach. Macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy are prevalent in seniors over the age of 60. Wet macular degeneration, which is worse than dry macular degeneration, affects 10-15% of macular degeneration patients. Those with wet macular degeneration can lose their vision quickly if not taking precautions.
Diabetic retinopathy affects about half of diabetic patients, in which new, fragile capillaries form in your eyes, distort your vision, and may even leak. Studies from Canadian and American researchers suggested that taking natural, herbal antioxidant supplements can halt the growth of these blood vessels. Researchers compiled a list of herbs that inhibit vascular endothelial growth factor, which is a signal protein cells make that tell the body to make new blood vessels. We recommend taking the Blood Vessel Control support formula that can be found on our website naturaleyecare.com
Over 40 million people complain about dry eyes, and it is the #1 reason why people go to the eye doctor. All age groups experience varying degrees of symptoms: dryness, grittiness, irritation, burning, and excessive watering. Dr. Marc Grossman's podcast offers natural approaches to dry eye care that can help increase tear production and the overall health of the eye.
Zeaxanthin and lutein are nutrients crucial for eye health. However, senior citizens are at highest risk for eye diseases such as macular degeneration. Part of the reason is that they absorb nutrients less efficiently. Their caloric needs are lower. And, the Standard American Diet tends to be low in zeaxanthin and lutein. Therefore, seniors often need supplements. Find out about the research behind these statements. Dr. Marc Grossman's podcast explains how these antioxidants help not only the eye, but also the brain.

Why is the amino acid glutathione called a superantioxidant and "The Mother of All Antioxidants"? The liver naturally produces this chemical. However, as we age, we produce less. What has research shown about the role of glutathione in proper body functioning? Is it helpful to eat certain foods? Is it better to take glutathione pills, or is an oral spray superior, and why? Even exercise plays a role in the body's production of glutathione. Find out how this antioxidant works and what seniors can do to keep high levels of glutathione.
Cataracts is a very common eye conditions, especially among seniors. The vision becomes cloudy. What is cataract surgery? Can it correct refraction errors? But what if you want to delay or avoid the surgery? Are there nutrients or other options for cataracts? Some people may have personal or medical reasons for avoiding cataract surgery when they have an advanced case of this eye condition. For example, they may have other health conditions, complications with a prior cataract surgery in one eye, problems with their health insurance, or just want to try a natural approach first.
Oxidization is an important contributor to cataracts. Free radical damage causes cataracts to form. This has been studied in the laboratory. Dr. Marc Grossman discusses a variety of nutrients that have been shown to affect cataracts. He has referred many patients for cataract surgery when necessary. However, his review of the literature has revealed many peer-reviewed studies on nutrients for cataracts. And patients who wanted to delay cataract surgery have found success with the natural solutions he has recommended.
Having an eye exam is far more than just reading letters on an eye chart. Ask your optometrist or ophthalmologist for the specific tests and exams that Dr. Marc Grossman describes in this podcast. These exams could help head off serious eye disease in the future through early detection. High-tech tests are important.
The doctor should take your history. Also, do you use electronics excessively? How can electronics use be mitigated?
Several sensitive tests for glaucoma include tests for eye pressure and tests on the cornea. The retinal exam should go beyond a basic slit lamp exam. A digital retinal scanner and OCT are newer technologies produce very detailed images. These machines are important for detection and tracking of eye disease. Everyone over age 50 could benefit from these test as a baseline. Research shows that supplements and lifestyle changes can affect the course of eye disease.
Special tests of the front of the eye look for dry eye and tear duct problems.
Visual field testing helps detect certain eye diseases. Low-tech visual field testing might mean the patient counting fingers at the edges of their visual field. High-tech testing would require the patient to look into a machine and respond to visual cues.
Call around and ask about the new tests. They may cost more, but they are an investment in your vision health.

How are nutrition, eye disease, and the thyroid connected? What is Traditional Chinese Medicine's point of view on the eye? The eyes are nutrient-hungry. Yet, our nutrition is partially thwarted by toxins and refined foods. As people age, their nutrition becomes weaker. What can seniors do to improve their nutrition and absorption of nutrients?
The eyes are windows to changes elsewhere in the body. For example, high blood pressure and diabetes effect the eyes. Did you know that both the iris and the whites of the eyes can indicate problems in the body?
Traditional Chinese Medicine sees specific organs as connected to parts of the eye. For instance, the liver is connected to the cornea and the iris. Something that is happening in the eye may also be happening in the body.
The thyroid gland regulates the body's basil energy metabolism. Hypothyroidism, or a low-functioning thyroid, means the liver cannot break beta carotene down into Vitamin A. This, in turn, can cause dry eye, poor night vision, and difficult adjusting to changes in light. Which eye diseases are associated with hypothyroidism? If a person has this imbalance, what does Dr. Grossman suggest?
Pink eye, red eye, or conjunctivitis is the most common eye disease in the Western hemisphere. How is pink eye diagnosed? What can you do to prevent and soothe this common eye infection?
The conjunctiva is the tissue covering the whites of the eye and inside the eyelid. Conjunctivitis comes on quickly. The eye becomes red, swollen, teary, and itchy. It might feel like a grain of sand is in the eye. Bacteria is usually the cause, but it could be allergies or certain viruses.*
Pink eye is highly contagious. It spreads through objects and contact. The doctor may prescribe sulfa-based eye drops. If the infection does not clear in 3 days, broad spectrum antibiotics could be used.
Dr. Grossman has researched and applied natural remedies to help clear up conjunctivitis. They include nutrition, acupressure, herbs, homeopathic remedies, and herbs. He has prepared his EyeEase herbal tincture, which includes many of these natural substances to fight this eye infection. Listen to find out how to use this tincture and where to find it.
