Grant license on sign in, also known as Grant role on sign in, lets administrators apply a minimum site role to user groups only when users in those groups sign into a Tableau site. This group option lets administrators streamline license provisioning by group, without granting unnecessary licenses to inactive users. For more information about site role capabilities and minimum site roles.
For example, a company has an Active Directory group called Marketing with 100 users. Only about 25 users in Marketing currently use Tableau, but there are no Active Directory groups for these specific Tableau users in Marketing. Every Tableau user in Marketing needs the site role of Explorer.
