We would be of all men most miserable, but thanks be unto God, the grave was not the end!

Not only did Paul count his accomplishments as a loss, he counted all things to be a loss in view of the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus.

The gospel is the story of humiliation and exaltation. God stoops all the way down to become man. Because He humbled Himself, preferring others to accomplish our redemption, the Father exalts Him. He bestows new honors and new glory for having accomplished redemption. He gives Him a name above every name and declares that anybody who ever comes to God must say that “Jesus is Lord.”Â

His trouble and critics did not matter. The only thing that mattered was the furtherance of the gospel. In Philippians 1:19-26, we learn that Paul’s desire was to glorify Christ. Is it your desire to glorify Christ as it was Paul’s? We glorify Him by our attitudes, our words, our behavior, and what we do in these bodies. We either exalt Christ or we bring Him shame.Â

In part two of Pastor Duane's message "The Joyful Prisoner," we learn that not only did Paul maintain joy while chained to a prison guard, but he also had joy when he learned the news that some were filled with envy creating strife and contention. He didn't lose his joy because he lived to see the name of Christ proclaimed even if it cost him.
In the Book of Philippians, we read that Paul was a joyful prisoner. Joy and prison would normally be seen as an oxymoron, but Paul chose to "kiss the chains" and view himself as a prisoner of Jesus Christ. He chose to trust in God's plan for him, and he believed that God would bring good out of his situation.

To redeem us... Jesus was qualified by His birth. Jesus was able to redeem us. Jesus was willing to pay the price to redeem us - freely laying down His own life for us. Only Jesus is qualified.
No matter how bad you may have messed up and no matter how bad things may get, just cling to Jesus and everything will be alright.
