SONAL Welcome to my brand new Do What You Love mini series. In this series I am chatting with people who have mastered this art and I ask them the same three questions: 1. How did you find the confidence to embark on 'doing what you love' instead of settling for a 'sensible job'? 2. What sacrifices (if any) have you had to make, and has it been worth it? 3. How did you develop your mindset to believe you can make a living doing what you love?

These are questions I was desperate to ask people when I was trying to figure out how to escape work I hated and do what I love. In this second episode of the mini-series we have Sonal Nathwani as our guest who is an incredibly talented painter of expressive florals & dreamy landscapes. Sonal imparts incredible the wisdom needed to pursue the desire to do what you loved along with her practical experience of doing so. She encourages us to notice the things you can't stop thinking about, and trust that. That you don't need to be using your brain so much because your soul knows. Enjoy the episode and let me know what stuck with you by dropping me an email at hello@kiacannons.com ABOUT SONAL Sonal took the scenic route to get to where she now stands on her career path. She decided to leave the finance industry after her second son was born, to live ‘the creative life’ and can now happily say she's a painter. As well as paintings on canvas, Sonal likes to paint on any surface that she feels needs to be beautified. This naturally led her to the world of surface pattern design. Sonal usually starts with a painted or hand drawn motif and then digitally develops the artwork to create bold and colourful designs for products and textiles. She licenses her artwork to several companies for home decor items and accessories, as well as art prints and textiles. These are questions I was desperate to ask people when I was trying to figure out how to escape work I hated and do what I love. In this second episode of the mini-series we have Louise Boyce aka @MAMASTILLGOTIT as our guest! Louise is someone who had a simple idea, had the courage to explore it and experienced enormous success as a result. Enjoy the episode and let me know what landed with you by dropping me an email at hello@kiacannons.com ABOUT LOUISE Mother of three, and model for over 20 years, Louise found becoming a mother changed the way she felt about herself – she lost her identity and confidence and at times doubted herself as a mother, as a model and as a woman, but decided she wouldn’t let these negative thoughts take over. She wanted to feel and look like she'd ‘still got it’ and wanted to help other women feel the same way too. At the start of the pandemic she had an idea to post some funny motherhood videos on TikTok, she followed that curiosity and now is an award winning content creator with an audience of 231k. This week I promised to share the one thing that has helped me cut down overwhelm and a huge breakthrough I have had in my quest to slow down, which I discovered during quarantine.

Hey folks

In the episode I share the amazing little pings and nudges I received from the Universe over the last month or two which led to an enormous breakthrough of an emotional block.

This week I had planned to just jump into the limiting belief that was unblocked and the one thing that helped me get there.

As I prepared this episode though, I realised there was a whole other important part to the story of how I got there. It wasn't just my thinking that provided the breakthrough, it was delivered in an enormous way by little messages from life itself.

So next week we'll dive into the one thing that changed my thinking, today let's talk about magic.

Hey folks

I'm a bit late with this week's episode. Partly from accepting the prompts I received to take the bank holiday weekend to "totally and thoroughly unwind" (what a lovely way of putting it don't you think?)

And partly, because I didn't really know what to say. I was questioning my upbeat vibe and wondering if that was appropriate (feel free to let you know your thoughts on this!) and felt a little undecided on how best to offer you lovely listeners support.

In this episode I talk about that and offer some resources and insight on the power of mindset work at a time of crisis - how sometimes it may not be appropriate, but for most its exactly what you need.

With love,

Kia x

In this episode I share a lightening fast 3 step action plan to deal with overwhelm.   In business I have hit this wall many times when facing having to do something I don't know how to do (insert your latest challenge in life or work here!) The overwhelm of not knowing how to do something can cause you to become stuck.   And when you're stuck you're going nowhere and feeling pretty awful.   I began to notice as I worked on my mindset, that I started to overcome this so I noted down what has worked for me and its three simples steps.    In this episode I walk you through these steps which are:   1. What to tell yourself. 2. What to do physically. 3. How to think.   Overwhelm is destructive. It halts your life, your business, and puts a big dent in your wellbeing. Try these steps out next time you hit a wall and share your breakthroughs with me at hello@kiacannons.com   Enjoy!

In this episode I share with you the valuable insights and lessons I learned that led to me hiring the first member of my team.   I share the tools I have learned and now executed around stepping into the role of “boss” - how I thought I should do it (insert 1980’s cliche of “boss” here) and then after you’ve finished cringing at that idea, how the “radical” approach I learned of relinquishing control of your business and allowing your team to blossom and bloom.   I round off by sharing how I have implemented another lesson I was taught which is to hire before you can “afford” to. I did it, and it totally worked.

3 Steps to Make Your Dreams a Reality.

This week I experienced the sheer joy of ticking something off my vision board that had sat there for nearly 20 years. What a crazy year, 2019 has been, it came armed with lessons for me and powerful guidance, and I learned a lot.

On the back of a couple of pivots within my business and two launches this year, I take some time in this episode to share what I know to be true about making your dreams a reality.

Of course, you aren't going to hear a bunch of productivity tips or goal-setting advice. This is about connecting with your inner-voice, doing what you love, pushing through your limiting beliefs and allowing any outcome.

In this episode, I had the absolute pleasure of talking with Cassie of Wanderlust Skulls.

Cassie creates the most beautiful art - hand-painted buffalo and longhorn skulls, she not only paints them but adorns with crystals, gold accents, all with the most balance and magic.

We talk openly about our belief systems, God, self-worth, valuing your craft, creative intuition and Cassie shares tons of value with practical tips and advice for creatives just starting out or hitting blocks.

You don't need to be creative to get a ton of value from her insight and experience around finding her purpose and honouring the call to do a thing thats whispering inside you to do or explore.

Sit back and enjoy an hour of honesty and inspiration.

About Cassie

Cassie Everson-Martin is the creative visionary behind Wanderlust Skulls. A mid-western wife and mother, she finally gave into the god-given talents of her artistry in fall of 2016. And, the perfect canvas
ended up being bone.

Cassie's journey from feeling like a lost SAHM and ex-retail worker to global art entrepreneur happened quickly when she began to fully lean into her faith, and understand that God makes no mistakes when he
gives you talents to bless the world with. After ignoring the same idea that ate away at her for well over two years, she began, and never turned back.

Two years, 5 countries, and over 270 art pieces made with buffalo and longhorn skulls later, Cassie is on a mission to create incredible legacy art pieces that will inspire and elevate any space in your home.

But more than that, she has found the need to help other artists (especially mothers) break the "broken artist" mindset and set out to use their unique talents, and understand their worth. Cassie is dedicated to helping break the barriors of old belief that too often take place in the mind of artistic creatives.

He has co-founded Heights, a community for achievers who want more. Every Sunday Heights dishes up bite-sized portions of the latest in neuroscience, nutrition & psychology in the form of a 3 min read delivered to your inbox.

The Podcast

I look forward to these emails every week and was delighted to sit down with Dan in his office in London and have a chat.

We talked about doing what you love, the mindset required to embark on the path of entrepreneurship, the reality of ambition, ego, the reality of business success.

We touched on mental health and Dan's experience of insomnia, eating to improve health and switching to a plant-based diet.

The mind being part of the brain, not the brain.

We moved into discussing the soul, cultural ethnicity, God, nature, and anti-religion.

Trusting your gut, and balancing gut-based decisions whilst working in a team. Coping with the 'shiny-new' disposition as an entrepreneur.

We discussed anxiety and defining what it is. I love how Dan describes it as an emotional experience you get from living in the future. So true.

This episode was sparked by an article a wonderful member of my community sent me which was written in The Guardian newspaper by Brigid Schulte about how woman's biggest enemy is a lack of time to herself.

It reminded me of the things I have conquered in order to claim time for myself for deep work (such as painting, writing and time for inner-work). I share 3 tips that enabled me to move from overwhelm and seeing no solution, to finding a great solution. Of course, it was all about inner development and mindset. Listen in to hear more.

Wow. So the chronic pain appeared out of nowhere again this morning. Knowing what I know after the miracle I experienced on Christmas Eve (ep 22 Ease + Miracles) I knew it was in the realms of possibility that I could go from being more or less unable to walk because of the excruciating pain shooting down the inside and back of my leg to being totally pain free and able to get on with my day within a few minutes.

Which sounds crazy to my mind, even though I've experienced this twice now. But hey, this podcast is about my sharing my experience as a human being with you, so I need to get over that.

So what did I do? I recognised my heart wasn't at ease and ran through the questions I share in ep 38 Releasing Limiting Beliefs. And it worked.

Here are the questions:

  1. Why am I feeling this way?

  2. Why do I want to be in pain? or Why am I holding on to this belief?

  3. Who would I be if I let go of this belief? or Who would I be if I stopped wanting to feel this way?

  4. What do I have to believe to let this go?

Credit to Mastin Kipp + Tony Robbins whose work is the inspiration behind me coming up with asking myself these questions.

A little episode about conquering fears. Sharing a story about how I talked to my 7 yr old son about the teachings I've learned around how the brain's job is to protect us fear which led to him overcoming a big fear of his own.

Also, several episodes back I mentioned that I use a 5 step process to practise forgiveness (which was revealed to me in a meditation). Lots of you messaged me to ask me to share those steps with you. This process has never let me down and as it is so powerful I wanted to teach it to those who want to learn in the most clear way, I want to hold you hand through the process. So I have created and quietly released a video workshop of me taking you through the steps one by one. Its a game changer. If you'd like to take a look click here.

'Do What You Love' Sounds Great But what about paying the bills?

A little episode where I begin to share with you the narrative behind what I mean when I say you should 'do what you love'.

We all have bills to pay so I know there's a danger that statement can be misunderstood.

This is a share to hopefully answer some of those issues!

ps. After recording I remembered some other things I meant to share so this will be a two-parter. The takeaway from this episode:

How many people judge you to be clever or not clever is not what this human experience is about.

It is about Being, experiencing, living as a human. Stretching, growing, learning - it's all for your soul's growth, none of it is for your ego. None of it.

Thought I would document my health journey from not being able to walk for 9 months due to chronic pain, to being diagnosed with Hashimotos, an autoimmune disease, to where I am now, largely pain free and on the verge of reversing the autoimmune disease.

In this episode I share my journey and more importantly share all the things I did to try and get better. I have no idea whether one thing has had the most impact or whether it is a culmination of many things, but here's my story.

I hope if you're experiencing anything similar, my story might be helpful to you or someone you love.

This is a long video, so here are the top 10 things I did that I feel had an impact:

  1. Change in diet. Switching to an anti-inflammatory lifestyle. Going dairy-free + grain-free.

  2. Accepting the pain, not getting caught up in the emotion around being in pain. Allowing the as-is (Michael A Singer type thinking)

  3. Meditating

  4. Writing morning pages (see The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron)

  5. Educating myself on Neuroplasticity (see NOIgroup, David Butler, Prof Lorimer Mosely and the book Explain Pain and the Protectometer handbook)

  6. Faith. I believed I would get better or find a way to live a fulfilling life despite the debilitating pain. Faith that life is always working for me and not against me.

  7. Talking to people about my health challenge, which often lead people to link me to other people who could help me.

  8. Walking. Bravely walking and putting what I learned about Neuroplasticity into practise. Being brave believing pain can't hurt me, walking cam't make it worse and despite huge fear doing it anyway.

  9. Listening to people talking about Neuroplasticity and great mindsets when my mindset took a dip, in order to strengthen my belief.

  10. Accepting the as-is. On flare up days, no catastrophizing, just allowing and looking for the lessons or the opportunity for growth on the other side of the pain boulder!

I would add my coach Jacqueline Hurst helped me enormously on this journey by teaching me how to have a great relationship with food and therefore feel no restriction around my new inflammatory lifestyle. Feel free to hop on over to Instagram and join in the conversation with my community about this topic!

Today I stepped into my dreams and did something I have wanted to do for a long time. I describe the journey I went on to get there focusing on how it's often fear that holds us back, and was certainly holding me back.

I wanted to document this moment for anyone wishing they could do something but allowing fear based thinking or living small to hold them back. It doesn't have to the the growth and joy on the other side of moving through fear is worth is 1000000000%

A little stream of consciousness around a new concept I'm mulling over. If you're an avid listener you'll know I love to discuss the idea of the point of life.

Today my musings have moved onto what is life anyway? I've always chalked it up as what I'm doing or physically experiencing ie. the things. Here I share a recent Aha around perhaps its none of those, perhaps our existence is based more around how we feel.

After all I can say today my life looked like going to London on a train, having a great conversation, working in the studio and forgetting to make tea for my kids (sorry boys)...

..But really today my life was also... I woke up feeling challenged, then after a brilliant chat with my husband felt like I was flying high, I had a breakthrough moment of understanding whilst waiting for a train, felt pretty tired, had a conversation that inspired me no end in London, and made me feel like I understood myself and the universe more, I got some positive news and felt great, I felt so exhausted so I forgot to feed the boys, I was determined to have an early night and stop worrying about the big things going on in my life.

What I will mostly remember about today will be how I felt. Therefore what is existence? What is life? Perhaps it has less to do with what I spend my time doing, and more about how I spend my time feeling....

Join me as I fold the laundry and lament on how I’ve learned that keeping to my habits is the most important thing for me (only working within school day, getting to sleep by 8.30pm etc) in order to keep my equilibrium and avoid burnout. The irony that it’s 9.30pm as I recorded this podcast (ie was working) is not lost on me!
.
Continuing on the path of self development whilst trying not to fall into my old story of believing I need to do everything perfectly, is a lesson I continue to explore and trip up on.
.
Learning to slow down as life fills up and my business scales up is a lesson I continue to work on grasping.
.
Recognising that responding to inspiration whenever it strikes leads time and time again to burn out, which continues to take a good week to recover from, and continues to be on my list of things to conquer.
.
As a creative, it feels awful to ignore the call of inspiration. But I’m not loving overwhelm or burnout much so let’s try a new approach.. the 20 Mile March. I’ve said I’d try it this week and then forgot to make a point of actually doing it.

All these things I lay bare in my podcast to share the journey behind these little squares. To show the human behind the brand. To share my aha’s and my oh-dears. To celebrate the wins and be honest about the fears.
.
I hope you enjoy joining me on my journey of entrepreneurship, creative living and waking up.

Today I answer a reader's question - today I posted the quote you have one life, live it' on my Instagram feed and I got the most brilliant question from a reader. (I absolutely love it when people question the how behind my mindset, so I understand how I can offer more help).

So the readers question was:

'What is your motivation everyday to keep at it? I am lacking in that department unless I have an art show or display to prepare for'

I have used this episode to answer this question and I think it will be a question a lot of people have.

My answer may be quite different to what you might expect, too.

I talk about my beliefs around doing what you love, the big picture, the journey and the biggest things that trips us up.

In this episode I talk about the concept of picking a word for the year - i.e. an overarching focus you want your decisions to stem from.

At first I found the concept of choosing a word for the year, (with a level of seriousness), quite amusing. Then I heard people talk about how enormously helpful and transformative they found it to be, so I gave it a go.

What I like about it though is that its a gentle way of settling on one important goal for your life and giving yourself a good while to meet it.

My word for 2017 was SLOW. Hilariously I didn't slow down a beat, but I think taking a year of intention was necessary to pave the way to be prepared to take the action needed in order to actually slow down the following year. I needed to spend a whole year wanting it in order to be ready to let go of certain things to make it possible.

My word for 2018 is still undecided (as I write this in November 2018!) But the general theme has revealed itself to be getting to know my 'Self'. Or meeting my 'Self'.

My word (or focus) for 2019 is flashing on me everywhere I look, listen on to hear more!
