Lydia Vadez doesn’t tell a polished story. She tells the true one, the kind that starts in survival mode and slowly learns what safety feels like. We sit down and trace her journey from a childhood marked by physical abuse, secrecy, and being blamed for things she couldn’t control, all the way to the moment she realized she knew the name Jesus without knowing Jesus personally. If you’ve ever carried pain while still trying to be “the strong one” for everyone else, you’ll feel seen here.

We also talk about adulthood wounds that repeat old patterns: craving love, ending up in domestic violence, and living on constant defense because trust feels dangerous. Then motherhood turns everything up. Lydia opens up about raising her kids largely on her own, the pressure of providing, and the heartbreak of watching both of her daughters attempt suicide during COVID after relentless bullying. It’s a direct conversation about teen mental health, suicide warning signs, school bullying, racism, and what it looks like to keep showing up when you’re exhausted.

What makes Lydia’s story different is the shift in how she responds to life. She describes learning to run to the Father instead of running to fear, finding a church community that keeps pursuing her, and practicing prayer when money is tight and problems are loud. We also dig into forgiveness as a form of freedom, not denial, and how her goal now is to leave her kids something stronger than security: God in their hearts.

If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with someone who needs hope, and leave a review so more people can find these stories of faith, healing, and real life.

A gospel booklet shows up in the mail behind the Iron Curtain and it changes a teenager’s life forever. Sergei grew up in Belarus under the USSR, where the aftershock of World War II, state propaganda, and restricted Christianity shaped everything from what people believed to what they feared. We talk through what “freedom” looks like when the government can track believers, disrupt services, and fine families for worship.

Then the story jumps forward to Israel. Sergei moved in 2021, started building life as a tour guide, and soon found himself living through October 7 and the long months of alarms that followed. He explains Iron Dome in everyday language, what safe rooms and community shelters are actually like, and why Israelis keep working, parenting, and praying even when sirens become part of the weekly routine. We also get into the human side of it: meeting neighbors in a shelter, watching kids serve in the IDF, and learning the difference between fear and caution.

We zoom out on the headlines too, including Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, and why phrases like “from the river to the sea” can hide a much deeper rejection of Israel’s right to exist. Sergei shares history from the 1947 partition plan, describes how propaganda spreads, and offers a Bible-shaped way to pray for Israel and for hearts to recognize Yeshua as Messiah. A single moment can split your life into “before” and “after” and you do not get to vote on the timing. Don and Susan Thayer know that kind of turning point firsthand, and they share their story with a level of honesty most people only admit in a counselor’s office: childhood trauma, adoption, ministry life, and the sudden loss of their 19-year-old son, Parker, during a family vacation.

We talk about what grief actually does, not the inspirational version. Don describes anger at God, the brutal swing from shock to sorrow, and the scary places his mind went when the pain would not let up. Susan explains the difference between knowing Bible verses and having them hold you up when your face is on the floor, plus how healing from sexual abuse can resurface years later inside marriage and why patient love matters. If you have ever wondered whether your faith can survive tragedy, this conversation stays with the tension instead of papering it over.

Then the story turns outward to Chiang Mai, Thailand and a business as mission model built around coffee. Through P-Rex Coffee, they partner with local believers serving Hill Tribe communities, supporting a Christian dorm, discipleship, and sustainable livelihoods for coffee farmers. It is grief and grace in motion, with a mission that keeps the gospel close to the ground and the product connected to real people.

If this resonates, subscribe, share this with someone walking through loss, and leave a review so more people can find stories like this. What part of their journey did you most connect with?

384: The news cycle keeps daring Christians to pick a side fast, speak loud, and “own” someone online. We slow it down and ask better questions: what does Scripture actually say about rulers, war, and the temptation to turn political leaders into religious symbols?

We start with Pope Francis, Vatican II, and the claim that Christians and Muslims are essentially seeking the same God, then pivot to war and morality through Romans 13 and just war theory. When people press us for hot takes on Iran or any conflict, we admit the limits of what we know and argue for a posture of humility, prayer for leaders, and trust in God’s providence. That isn’t passivity; it’s refusing to play omniscient commentator.

Then we tackle the Christian celebrity moments that confuse people the most: Paula White’s over-the-top comparison of Trump to Jesus, and the viral AI image that makes Trump look like Christ healing someone. We talk blasphemy, the second commandment, Psalm 2, and why leaders still have a duty to honor God even if they don’t believe. We also dig into JD Vance, the Pope, and ordo amoris “ordered loves” to explain why Christian ethics includes real duties to family and nation without erasing love for the world.

If you care about faith and politics, Christian worldview, government and the Bible, and how the church should speak in public without losing the gospel, this conversation is for you. 383: A certified letter can do what years of denial never will. When David Hennig opened mail warning him he was years behind on taxes and could lose his home. The “nice life” illusion cracked, and the real story surfaced: pride, hidden debt, emotional shutdown, and a marriage that quietly ran out of road.

David walks through how he went from a no-faith background to a slow, honest Christian testimony shaped by accountability and hard choices. He shares what it was like to carry $70,000 of debt across family, friends, and the government, how an unexpected intervention forced him to name every number, and why moving in with his parents as a grown man became the humbling reset he needed. We also dig into the moment his wife, Danielle, asked for God to be at the center of their relationship and how trying churches eventually led to a message that felt uncomfortably personal, followed by baptism and a gradual shift in priorities.

If you’re wrestling with debt, rebuilding trust, or trying to lead your family with faith and confidence, press play, then share this with someone who needs a reset. Subscribe, leave a review, and text us your questions at 737 231 0605.

382: A single question in a prison bunk rewired Cameron’s future: “Are you safe?” From there, everything changed. What began as a teenager’s slide into weed, cocaine, and quick money hardened into years of county time and a near-OD his own father—an EMS captain—responded to. But that stark wake-up call in a trustee camp reframed safety as responsibility: provide for your daughter, build trust, and walk a straighter road with God. The turnaround didn’t arrive with fanfare; it came with early mornings, blue-collar hustle, and thousands of small, boring, holy decisions.

381: A war zone will test your body, your marriage, and your faith—and sometimes all three at once. 380: What does it take to move toward the world’s darkest places and bring people back alive? Covert missionary Bruno DeCanto is back to continue sharing a wild, human story that runs from South Sudan’s conflict zones to Ethiopia’s Tigray region and into the heart of Ukraine’s war. The mission is simple and brutal: extract the vulnerable, outmaneuver traffickers, and keep preaching hope even when the air is thick with dust and gunpowder.

379: A nameless voice, a battered past, and a purpose that won’t quit. Bruno sits with us to unpack how a jailhouse encounter with Jesus turned a prize fighter into a quiet force against trafficking from Oaxaca and Panama City to the airstrips of South Sudan. This isn’t a highlight reel built on bravado; it’s a ground-level look at the systems of exploitation, the cost to families who fight them, and the small faithful steps that move people from danger to safety.

378: Matt Badgley's life began with unimaginable trauma - conceived through rape to a drug-addicted mother. His childhood was marked by poverty, abuse, and abandonment, leading to a suicide attempt at 14. However, God intervened through Young Life ministry, where Matt encountered the unconditional love of his Heavenly Father. Today, he's breaking generational cycles by raising godly children with his wife Brittany. His story demonstrates that no situation is too broken for God's redemption, and our worst experiences can become the foundation for ministry and hope for others.

376: A woman's powerful journey from religious extremism to authentic faith reveals the stark difference between controlling religion and true Christianity. Growing up in the Fraternal Society of St. Peter meant living under strict rules, complete isolation, and predetermined life paths. At 12 years old, she was told her only options were marriage or becoming a nun. The breaking point came when her parents blamed her for a sexual assault and prioritized their image over her safety. After carefully planning her escape, she rebuilt her life through physical distance, healthy relationships, and reconnecting with cut-off family members.

Pastor Plek ends this episode with a bold call to follow Jesus.

374: A 15-minute walk into a Venezuelan church changed everything. Manny grew up in Iran with loving, educated parents, a strict culture, and a head full of questions no one would answer. Kickboxing and Muay Thai gave him structure; wrestling shaped his base; but joy in worship—clapping, singing, smiling—gave him a first taste of freedom. That brief encounter set him on a path through Damascus, deep into Costa Rica, and eventually into a life built around language, resilience, and the mats. His perspective on freedom isn’t theoretical; it’s earned, layered, and fiercely protective.

A Supreme Court fight, a crisis of conscience, and a hard look at justice—this conversation moves fast and cuts deep. We open with Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy for minors and why the 10th Circuit’s framing of “harmful professional conduct” raises alarms for counselors who practice faith-informed talk therapy. Where does protected speech end and regulated treatment begin? 369: A simple question about “priests before the Law” opens a door into one of Scripture’s most fascinating arcs. We trace the roles of prophet, priest, and king before Sinai, explore Jethro’s surprising faithfulness, and sit with the mystery of Melchizedek—king of Salem, priest of God Most High—who foreshadows Jesus as our eternal priest‑king. Along the way, we show why tithing, sacrifice, prayer, and Sabbath rhythms didn’t start with Moses; they were clarified by the Law and fulfilled in Christ.

What happens when ritual replaces relationship? When a nation embraces death as a solution? When God is removed from governance? These profound questions drive our latest conversation about faith, culture, and the sanctity of life.

We begin by examining how easily Christians can fall into the trap of treating Scripture as a good-luck charm rather than a life-changing relationship. From soldiers reciting Psalm 91 before combat missions to nostalgic traditions that actually hinder authentic faith, we explore what it means to truly "hold fast" to Jesus rather than empty religious practices.

359: What does it truly mean to be saved? Is it through our good deeds, or is there something deeper at work? This question launches Pastors Chris and Holland into a profound theological exploration that spans from personal salvation to global politics. When listener Roman asks whether "good behavior is enough to save a man," the Chris & Holland dive into Ephesians 2:8-10, unpacking the beautiful paradox at Christianity's core: we are saved by grace through faith alone, yet faith that saves is never alone. Good works flow naturally from genuine salvation rather than creating it—a distinction that revolutionizes how we understand our relationship with God.

357: What if your greatest struggle isn't with God, but with trusting the Holy Spirit working in others? In this revealing conversation, Pastor Plec and Nicole explore the often-misunderstood role of the Holy Spirit in transforming believers and healing church relationships. At the heart of the episode is a powerful insight: many church conflicts stem from our tendency to trust our own judgment rather than recognizing the Holy Spirit at work in other believers. "You don't have to trust me or the elders," Pastor Plec explains. "You've got to trust the Holy Spirit working in and through the leadership of the church." This perspective shift offers healing for those carrying church hurt and disappointment. Whether you're wrestling with church trust issues, feeling stuck in performance-based Christianity, or simply want to understand the Holy Spirit's role better, this conversation offers fresh perspective and practical wisdom.

But when his mother and sister pointed him to 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Chase faced a spiritual crossroads that would demand his full surrender. "I had to realize that if you always substitute your faith for your feelings, then you're only going to be a Christian when it's convenient for you," Chase shares with wisdom beyond his years. Tune in to hear more about Chase's testimony.

Questions:
Mo did a great sermon. So the folks that attacked Israel were descendants of Ismael, which was also fathered by Abraham by God's instructions to Sarah. So why would God allow them to attack & kill one another to the point where one lineage is totally wiped out? The history of wars and no neighborly love seeming to exist anywhere or anytime in the world seems pretty depressing
Why do we keep falling back to "we aren't perfect and will sin" instead of turning it around and actually trying to live our lives more like Jesus? It just sounds like that's a crutch to justify our sinful behavior.

It seems to me like there are quite a lot of similarities in the Egyptian hate and attacks on the Jewish is same as the Muslim world now. My understanding of Muslim faith is that they also believe in the old testament. If so, why are they so ready to play the role of the Egyptians now. Probably a dumb question because I don't really understand the Muslim focus on killing non Muslims as a key part of their faith. So different from the Christian belief, but I know we also will go to war against enemies too. Just a little confusing

What are the implications for our faith if there are other lifeforms out there? How does that impact our faith? Short answer: it doesn’t change anything. Tune in to hear more.

Questions:
Christianity is asking people to blindly trust them without any evidence or despite scientific findings like dinosaur bones, is making Christianity seem more and more like a cult to me. My question is. Why does the church bury its head in the sand as new science develops, and refuse to give people the answers they are seeking?
Not really a service question, but I find it interesting that when the power went out Sunday we didn't default to any of our normal songs to get through the power outage. Faith, Culture, and everything in between.

Questions:
Exodus 12:29-32 is a tough verse when taken on its own. It seems to imply that God is responsible for the death of the first born. However, God is the source of truth and cannot lie. If he already gave his word in Gen 12:3 that he would curse anyone who curses his people. In light of this, why do we place responsibility on God rather than Pharaoh? God promised "Do A and I will be forced to do B", Pharoah does A and God's hand is forced. Why do we not read this as Pharaoh being the one responsible? Almost like sticking your finger in an electric outlet and then blaming the electric outlet for shocking you rather than sticking your finger in it when you knew what would happen.

Who do you think the angel of death is?

Exodus 12:29 - 13:22

Pastor Plek and Catie Sas are joined by Machine Gun Nick and Seth Sparks this week to recap Sunday’s sermon Exodus 11 & 12. In this episode we address several questions about the hardening of Pharaoh’s heart, free will, repentance and forgiveness.

Faith, culture, and everything in between.

Questions:
If you "repent" from your sin, but in your heart aren't really sorry and keep doing that one sin, does God still forgive?
Why do you continue to stress that Pharaoh hardened his own heart by witnessing the miracles instead of what the scriptures say that the Lord hardened his heart? What is wrong with God doing the hardening?
Exodus 12:23 mentions the Lord and the destroyer. Does this mean there were two spirits involved? I've always just thought of it as the Angel of Death passing through, but this made it sound different.
Does the Lord harden Pharaoh 's heart or does Pharaoh harden his own heart? If the Lord does this, was Pharaoh never given free will?
One line from one of our recent worship songs says "day and night, night and day, let incense rise". I'm guessing this is referring to the tabernacle incense they used to burn. However, today, incense can be associated with the new age, so sometimes I feel weird singing these lyrics. Is this line referencing a specific verse? I'm hoping to find meaning in these words when they're sung in corporate worship, while perhaps also leaning into the scriptural significance of incense.

Scripture Referenced:
Exodus 11-12, Revelation 5:8

Was God hardening Pharaoh's heart an act of mercy? Pharaoh kept pursuing Israel because he didn't want to lose slaves. Was God hardening Pharaoh's heart an attempt to make the cost of holding onto Israel so extreme that there's absolutely no desire to re-conquer and enslave them?

Questions Answered:
Sam- you said wives should encourage their husbands. What if the husband is not welcoming if that?  They don't want their wife to be apart of their spiritual walk
Quick note to Sam on the Sermon this morning - every lady in the room doesn't have a husband to encourage or prompt to share the gospel. Everyone in the room is not married.
Seriously? Women support your men in their evangelism? What about us unmarried women? Are we not ALL called to share the gospel? Are we not ALL called at believers to share the good news? 2 Cor 5:20 - We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.  Funny, nowhere does it say men only.

There are just certain songs that just burst forth from me and certain songs where I just get stuck in my head about how I don't like the song or don't like the band that wrote the song or how contemporary music is inferior , etc. I actually found that watching church from home for 2 years really messed up my ability to praise God in songs I don't like because I was never singing at home…

Question answered:
I am a young entrepreneur in my 20s. I am a 1099 and only make income off of commission. I agree with setting money aside to advance the lords kingdom however I believe in seeking generational wealth for myself and my family. My question is how does the lord see my aspiration for wealth? If I trust in the lord to believe in myself and the lord in order to generate my wealth am I still walking with Christ in my finances?

211: In this episode Pastor Plek, Catie Sas, and Cody Sparks tackle the topics of Contraception and Family Planning.

Questions answered:
As Christians, we are called to live in accordance with God’s will and not our own will. With that said, how can we justify the use of contraceptives, birth control, onanism, even natural family planning within marriage? Isn’t any attempt to prevent conception an example of us acting in our own will instead of God’s? Children are a blessing from the Lord, and they are blessings that not everyone can receive. Should those of us that can conceive not take that gift for granted? Should we be open to the possibility of life in every loving conjugal act within marriage? If we aren’t, are we saying that we know more than God as to what’s best for us and our families? Some might say that this is just strict Catholic doctrine that doesn’t apply to all Christians, but it’s important to note that up until the 1930s, both Catholics and Protestants were in agreement that contraceptives, birth control, and the like were not permissible. The new stance of Protestants is less than a century old. Scripture did not change in the 30’s, so why did the teaching change?

212: Pastor Plek is joined by Pastor James Foster, Tim Chancellor, and Nicole Troup this week to recap the last sermon in our Ecclesiastes series. In this episode we discuss why God calls us to submit to local authority and some common barries people have when it comes to submission.

Question answered:
Is Solomon describing what those who only live life "under the sun" without God should do in Ecclesiastes 9:7(and through 10)? It seemed more like a exhortation to take pleasure in what God has given and be joyful

Would love for you to talk more about how to be passionate about social political issues where other Christians will disagree.
An example might be gun control, where one Christian feels strongly that government shouldn't take guns away. While, another Christian thinks that implementing gun control will reduce deaths which is a good thing that honors God.
How can each advocate for their position in a way that honors God? Does it ever honor God to leave a church because of a political stance where Gods word is not explicitly clear on what is the right or wrong stance?

210: Rob Huddleston joins Pastor Plek on the podcast this week to continue their conversation about their army days and they answer a few questions from our listeners.

Questions Answered:
Since God has the elect, why would he create the people he wouldn’t be electing?
Romans 8:33 “Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies.”
Luke 18:6-8 “And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?””
Jude 1:1 "to those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ."
When Jesus died for all sins, did he die for just the elect’s sins? If he died for the elect and non elect, wouldn’t that be a waste for Jesus to bear? I know he’s already in pain and already bearing all sin, but why bear sin if you don’t have to if it’ll be for nothing?

Questions answered:
Question for Heather Obermiller's next podcast episode:
If you believe there is good and bad, moral and immoral, who decides which is which? Does that line shift with time?

Regarding discussions with Heather on the podcast: I don't think she answered the challenge you brought up regarding how to reconcile morality when people's views are irreconcilable. I would love to hear that addressed specifically. Also, while it's great to hear Heather's take on God and morality, I would really like to hear her confronted with the claims of Jesus-- specifically his resurrection and the credibility of the witnesses.

204: Pastor Plek, Adrienne Plekenpol. Cody Sparks, and Nicole Troup answer a listener's question about lying to get a job and discuss other job seeking advice.

Question answered:
I have a friend who is in Medical Sales. He works for a company that is going to start hiring for an assistant for his position. Basically the position would entail going to clinics and teaching the staff there how to use a heart monitoring device and giving excellent customer service. My friend wants me to apply for it because he thinks I’d do the job really well. The job pays extremely well. The issue I’m having is that the company wants someone who is from the medical field. Who’s worked in heart clinics specifically. I do not have that experience. My friend is willing to even lie to his boss about how he and I worked together in a clinic here in Austin. Part of me wants to jump at the opportunity to make a better life for myself. The other part of me, well, I’ve never lied to get a job. I know the right thing, isn’t to lie. But I’ve been really struggling financially, and this job would help me a lot. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

199: Pastor Plek, Pastor Mo, Catie Sas, and guest John Zhu recap sunday's sermon on Mark 14 and answer a few questions submitted by our listeners.

Questions answered:
Do you think Christian's tend to take advantage of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins?  Meaning, we just use that as an excuse to justify why we sin and keep on keeping on with sin? Hebrews 10:26 - For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins.
Aren't there a couple places in the synoptic gospels where Peter declare that Jesus is the Messiah? Is that not the same thing as claiming that He is God? Are there other places in the gospels where Jesus says that He is God?
After Peter denied Jesus twice, Jesus forgave him. Do you think Jesus would have forgiven Judas? I can imagine Judas was so ashamed and probably thought there was no way that he could he  be forgiven, but he knew Jesus. Did Judas not really believe Jesus was the savior?

Question answered:
Catie, question for you to answer:
Should we stop saying "we aren't Jesus, he was perfect, we are not perfect"?  Does that make it sound like we are giving ourselves an excuse to not strive to be Christ like and excuse our sins?
I would think if we stopped saying "I'm not perfect" and saying, I strive to be more like Christ daily, that would change our mindset instead of an excuse, "I'm not perfect".

194: On this episode of Pastor Plek's podcast, Pastor Plek, Catie Sas, and Pastor Mo answer a variety of questions about Jesus' name and birthday, old testament sacrifices, and limited atonement.

Questions Answered:
We call the Son of God Jesus. Isn't his real name Yahshua?  Then why don't we call him Yahshua? Then if Yahshua is his name why is it not in everyday Bible translation?
If blood was necessary for the redemption of sin, then why in the Old Testament was flour considered an acceptable sacrifice when you couldn't afford anything more? There is no blood with flour.
Pastor Plek Podcast, what is limited atonement?
When is Jesus' real birthday? Why did the Bible not specify when Jesus real birthday? It could have helped a lot of skeptics have confirmation.

When Paul writing this from prison, was it like an house arrest type set up to have servants and things like that?
You spoke about "My sacrifice for their benefit." I totally get that and try every time the person is near, yet isn't there a fine line between that and boundaries?
We're not God and Eventually you break because you're not a doormat and you have to stand up for yourself because those people you try to give the benefit to Continue to treat you poorly, even though we strive to be and live like Christ.

Were they half brothers? Were they not blood brothers at all and from a previous marriage of Joseph? Were they cousins? We're Jesus'sibling younger or older than him?
1st Samuel 1, when Hannah dedicates Samuel for God and gives him to the priests, is she giving up her entire parental role? IE would Samuel stay with them at night, visit occasionally, or was he essentially adopted by the priests and take into their family?

What do people do when they're mourning the loss of someone who didn't know the Lord? It's a great comfort to know that you'll see your dad again one day because he gave his life to Christ, but how do we handle it when someone doesn't belong to Jesus?
With the recent news of child pornography with Balenciaga, what is the church doing to step up and fight because pornography has become a severe issue in this nation. It's a health crisis.
The church hasn't officially addressed this topic and taken a stand to fight this fight.
Are they afraid to address this topic with the church in fear that it might step on peoples toes? Why coward down?

171: Pastor Plek & Jacob Laldin answers questions regarding generosity and women's dress at church

*Questions Covered:
Podcast question: I've heard it suggested that although the generosity of the Jerusalem church was beautiful, it was both unwise and disobedient. Perhaps they were so poor because they had a bunch of out of town believers who were busy hanging out instead of going home to fulfill the great commission. And then later in acts and the epistles we see other people constantly having to support the Jerusalem church because they've all sold their means of subsistence. What do you think of that interpretation?

For men - married or not, because of the way ladies tend to dress today, there is a constant battle to keep our eyes off of them to varying degrees.
How do you communicate the fight that we have as men to the women, so that church does not have to be another battle ground*

158: Pastor Plek and Leah Brown discuss the meaning of Gospel Issues and different levels of church doctrine.

Question Covered:
In the last episode on the 2nd amendment in light of the Uvalde shooting, Chris mentioned gospel vs non-gospel issues, and how people use non-gospel issues to divide christian unity.
Surely this list of gospel issues can be defined objectively, as our leadership references "gospel issues" vs "personal preference" quite often.  Does our church have an actual list of said "gospel issues" so we at WBCC know where to take a stand in our culture today?  Unity for the sake of unity isn't necessarily Biblical.  Jesus tells believers in the new testament that the gospel will be divisive - father against son, mother against daughter, etc. It would seem helpful, as a church, for us to know what our "close handed" or "gospel issues" are, since the litmus test of following christ isn't necessarily how "unified" a church is, but rather WHAT the church is unified over.  What is WBCC unified over?

153: Pastor Plek, Catie Sas, Jeff Mitchell, and Robert Sas recap Sunday's sermon and discuss the importance of accountability.

*Questions Covered:
How do we know when someone is holding you accountable because they love you and want to see you succeed vs. someone wanting you to become like them as far as your personality and thinking? Because there are A LOT of people will not accept you or be your friend unless you talk, think, act, believe, and behave exactly like them and will disciple you/training you accordingly.

The higher a person's role within an organization hierarchy the less likely they are to be challenged on a decision they are making. We've seen many prominent Pastors fall due to this. How have you seen the leadership or lay leaders at WBCC guard themselves from this pitfall?

Contextually, David not going out to fight carry's MASSIVE implications, doesn't it? We just saw in Deuteronomy how Israel is captured and enslaved time and time again all because they ignored God's command to drive out everyone from the promised land, but they didn't. As a result, morality goes out the window and they end up enslaved. Would that have been in peoples mind (contextually) when he sends other people out? Setting the standard for his mighty men that God's command is more important than anything else? we saw in Deuteronomy that they don't drive out the people like God commanded, and in Judges we see the result of God's people not fighting as they were called to. Would this have been in the peoples mind when they see David not going out to fight?Want to submit a question? Call or text 737-231-0605!

150: Pastor Plek and Catie Sas recap Sunday's sermon and answer some questions about friendship.

Questions covered:
What do you do when people walk out of all your spheres of influence (like to a different church) and still want you to reach out to them and hang out on a regular basis to "maintain" some sort of a friendship? There are a few people in my life like that. I feel like its impolite to tell them I don't have time for them, but that's how I feel. How do I communicate that to them in a loving way?
As a highly intentional person, this Sunday message was very appreciated. Question: Do you prefer to have a lot of relationships that are shallow or a small number of relationships that are deep? All people do not receive equal share of your time, how do you choose to prioritize your time with people?

148: Pastor Plek and special guest Leah Brown recap Sunday's sermon on overcoming bitterness and also discuss different view points on the end times, having joy in singleness, and dealing with frustration towards church leadership.

*Question Covered:
Give thanks in every situation . . . I'm lonely. I've been praying for a spouse for a long time. No one I meet seems real, and it seems like all the good ones are taken. I have family and friends, but that doesn't take the sting out of singleness. How am I supposed to rejoice and give thanks?

What happens to people who died before Jesus came and never had the chance to know him and profess faith? What about unreached people since his death? We know that God is just and sovereign, but it seems somewhat unfair that not everyone has the same opportunity to hear the gospel. Is general revelation enough? Can people truly know Jesus through general revelation? Does the Holy Spirit reveal the truth to people? It seems like so many people will be condemned to eternal life apart from God because of their sins, without a real opportunity to know and profess Jesus.*

144: Pastor Plek and Catie Sas discuss gender roles and sleeping with people who aren't your spouse.

*Questions Covered:
To add on to the man side of the sermon, “Excuses are not Masculine”… “When we make excuses we negate responsibility. This is unattractive and makes us as men untrustworthy. Our excuses are
holding us back from intimacy and connection - to be seen and to witness.
No one resonates with a man who doesn't take responsibility and ownership of his actions or his past. When we deny our role in any event, we disempower ourselves.
So many of us as men are so fearful to own our “mistakes", the pain we've caused others, our shame and even our dreams.
We are fearful because we carry deep embarrassment about who we are or who we have been. So many of us having grown up in abusive, absent and/or repressive households. Not knowing how to emote, nor how to express, have lost our sense of self and therefore have cultivated a gnawing frustration of life that is projected outwardly.
Having controlling or even enmeshed parents, we have defused ourselves of our own responsibility, wanting others in some way to save us or take away our pain. And if not another then pornography, sex, drugs, excessive achievement, wealth, status and any addiction that validate us and distract us from unaddressed pain.
We haven't known how to help ourselves and as a result we have either retreated from the world in compounded shame and meekness or lashed out in leaky aggression and blame with no connection to the actual healing that really needs to transpire.”

  • When you've tried to be there for people you care about who are in those toxic relationships, they are aware of it and it's effects on them, after years of trying to bring them to change, at what point can you walk away from it. Not end the relationship with the friend altogether but step away and hope they find their own way?
  • If Jesus has authority over all earth, how was Satan able to tempt Him with given him everything on earth (when fasting in the Forrest)?  Personally if someone tempted me with something that was mine, I wouldn't even call it a temptation but just assume they were crazy.

Questions:

  • Whenever I’ve read the parable of the sower it seems that Jesus’ focus is to point out that the only ground that represents a genuine believer (truly saved) is the one that produces fruit, the rest are not saved. However, in the sermon, I heard that we can all be each of the grounds in the story at different stages of our lives as BELIEVERS. What do you believe was Jesus’ purpose for the parable and what was He wanting to communicate?
  • Mustard seed parable. KOG according to this parable starts small and grows into the largest garden plant. So won't the KOG grow larger over time until it's the largest kingdom? Does this tell us that Christianity will someday be the biggest form of religion on the planet before Christs return?
  • You made a comment about "levels of judgement" when referencing Isaiah 6, and I was wondering what you meant by that? Isn't all sin, sin? And then why would Jesus only explain his parables to his disciples, if all have the "ability" to hear and believe?

  • Why does God choose to heal some and not others? Why does he prevent some disasters and not others? Based on the last sermon, some who have an NDE and see heaven (or hell) but aren't saved and never get saved. So clearly God doesn't heal or avert disaster just for his elect.
  • I'd like to hear the testimonies of the NDE survivors that we've seen so far. Were the ones that went to heaven all believers when they died? I think this would help with my skepticism about NDEs. I also just want to hear more of their before and after Jesus stories.

Questions:

  • I hate racism. We all should. We've got a brown guy living at our house, we are not a racist home and am glad to see our church speak out against it and work proactively against it. However, racism in ALL forms is abhorrent so why did we choose to do a special edition podcast for this shooting and not the black supremacist shooting on the New York subway last month? Is it because the 18yr old is a better shot and actually killed people vs. Shoot 33 rounds on the subway and only injure people? Or why not speak out against the black on Asian race hate crimes that plagued the country over the winter that were largely caught on video? Or is it maybe because y'all didn't know about these other instances of racism since they weren't widely talked about in popular media? We SHOULD call out racism and I agree with this podcast but why do we call attention to it when it's white on black and not the other way? Isn't all racism equally abhorrent and shouldn't all racism be spoken out against equally?
  • What does the Buffalo shooting tell us about the state of young men? If it does tell us anything. How should we think about just punishment for the shooter? Is it more biblical to think that the death penalty should be applied or life in prison? The political discussion is likely to turn to gun bans. How should Christians look at the 2nd Amendment?

  • How do you balance praying for something in confidence, but also waiting on God's timing? All over the Bible (especially in the Old Testament), it seems like there's people borderline demanding that God not only answer, but answer it in the specific way that they (the person) requested.
  • In today's culture, I feel like we approach prayer from much more of a "(insert prayer request).... but only if your will be done" where time and time again throughout scripture, we see more of an approach of "God, do this" or "God do this because of ____ (your greatness, your glory, etc.)
  • I don't think they're saying "do this" in a selfish manner, but more so in the vein of "You said that you'll care for your people, therefore I will ask for this in confidence knowing that you will do this"
  • How do you balance asking for something and trusting that God's power, providence and love will make it happen while also knowing that as a sinful human, I see little (if any) of the greater plan at work? IE God may not "answer" the prayer in the way I asked for because he has something greater planned.
  • How do you balance Matthew 7:7-11 and knowing that 1) Jesus doesn't give me everything I've asked for and 2) I've asked for some really dumb things that in retrospect, I'm really glad he didn't give me... Thank goodness I'm not married to my high school girlfriend ha.
  • Part of me feels like it would be borderline disrespectful to ask/demand things from God the way we see happen in scripture. On the flip side, you could also argue that we're limiting (our understanding of) God's power by not asking for great things. He created the freakin world with his words and conquered death, why would I not be asking in confidence knowing he can give it to me? If he can conquer death, why do I think he won't/can't answer a prayer in the way I want?
  • In a nutshell, how do you balance fear and respect for God with trusting that your God is great and can/will/wants to give us big things?
  • Can someone be Baptized again?
  • If baptized as a young child but have been living in sin most of your teenage and adult life, should you get baptized again? Where are you really truly baptized and accepted Jesus in your heart when you get baptized at a young age? Were you truly baptized and did you truly accept Jesus in your heart when you were baptized at a young age?
  • Why in 1 Samuel 16 Saul has David enter the services to play music for him and then in 1 Samuel 17 after David kills Goliath, Saul doesn’t recognize him?

Questions:- What’s up Chris? I got a question for your podcast. For example don’t eat shellfish, Why do majority of Christians follow the law of a man should not lay with another man yet other laws such as we shouldn’t wear garments with mixed cloths, do not plant two types of seed in your field or your crops will be defiled. Just interesting why some laws matter more it seems.

  • Do you know of a scripture that confirms that our prayers are still alive before His Throne after we die? I know Almighty God is outside of time. Do our prayers expire?

  • What do you think about church in the Metaverse?

  • Can you explain how God viewed/handled sin in various times: Adam to Moses (before the Law), Moses to Jesus (after the Law but before the Spirit), and Jesus to now (with the Spirit and under the new covenant)? Questions:- Why are the Pastors at Wells Branch not regularly referred to as Pastor Chris, Pastor Joseph, Pastor James etc? The previous church I was at this was common and it showed respect and reverence for the title and position. I get a friendliness aspect but do you think this could cause an overly "familial" level where the lines could be blurred? For example we don't call our parents Bob & Linda, we call them mom & dad, we don't call our teachers, Dr's, etc by first name basis. What's the basis behind not using this title? Personal preference? And how do you feel if you are or are not called by this?

  • Does Gods word really say you have to confess to your spouse if you have sinned against them? If God doesn't say you have to, then do you think it's ok to keep secrets from your spouse if you have sinned?

  • Can you dive in to Gender roles within Marriage and what that looks like? Does the husband have more say over the wife? Finances, raising kids, etc.

93: Pastor Plek, Pastor Joseph, and Catie Sas discuss submitting to leadership and how Paul would address the current-day church. Want to submit a question? Text 737-231-0605!

Faith, Culture, and all things in between.

Questions:
-
Hebrews 13:17 tells us to obey our leaders and submit to them, as they are keeping watch over our souls. It also commands us to do this in order that the leader(s) over us may be able to lead joyfully. These are direct commands to believers in a church who are under pastoral/eldership authority. So If a member of our church sees something he/she does not agree with being done by one or more of the church leaders, how do our church leaders prefer they approach leadership about said issue in order to not violate the command to A: Be submissive, and B: allow the church leader to still be joyful in their leadership role, so it doesn't seem like we are just bashing someone or complaining about something?

  1. You talked about this neuroplasticity with regard to sex with your spouse. Can you talk more about that? What science backs that up?

  2. Adrienne mentioned how date nights can help in marriages.
So do husband and wives really need to go on dates and how often? Who does this fall on to make sure dates are happening since God calls husbands to pursue their wives.

  3. We are called to serve one another as husband and wife but what happens when we serve and demand or expect something in return?
What we have a sexual demand/expectation for them to return and it doesn't get met. Are we in the right to be upset that they didn't return the favor since we served THEM in materialistic ways to show love?

  4. From a singles advocate: is there any thing in the Bible that encourages singleness or it talking about if being single forever is ok?

  5. Adrienne's comments on purity culture were interesting. I'd love to hear more from her or the pastors about how to teach biblical sex ethic in a balanced way that doesn't make sex a bad/scary thing but still sets boundaries/guard rails.

  • It's my understanding that black churches don't seem to be nearly as concerned with multiracial congregations as white churches. Do you agree this is the case? If so, why do you think this is?

  • Is Judaism a race? I firmly do not see how this is a race. I can see this as "God's people" a "religion" "a group of people from a common geographic region". Am I wrong when I internally roll my eyes when people say it's unique because "it's a religion and a race". Am I less of a biblical scholar if I only see races as negroid, mongoloid, caucasoid, or a mix of those? Does the Bible even talk about race?

85: Pastor Plek, Pastor Joseph, and Catie Sas discuss sins of a father, cussing, and the death penalty in this week's episode. Want to submit a question? Text 737-231-0605!

Faith, Culture, and all things in between.

Questions:
-
In the new heaven/ new earth do people not have free will? Because they don't have the ability to sin?

  • Can you elaborate what it means to be "intentional" about overcoming the sins of your father? That's sounds very much out of your own power as opposed to Gods.

  • So there's an old saying "if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around does it make a sound?" Do Pastors curse when no one is around? Like what would happen if you smashed your thumb with a hammer? And if not but you say "fricking" or "crap" isn't that the same thing? Because you're just using another word to replace the curse word but it's still the same meaning.

  • Biblically it says (Gen 4:11-12) that Cain is "cursed from the ground" and that when he "works the ground it will no longer yield to Cain its strength" and that he will be a "fugitive & wander the earth".... but boom 5 verses later he has a wife and builds a WHOLE CITY. So what was the basis of the curse if he was able to build a whole city and have numerous kids (where'd the wife come from btw?) who in turn had livestock and tents and multiplied?

  • Genesis 4:14 who was Cain referring to when he said, " Look, you are driving me off the land today, and I must hide from your presence. I will be a homeless wanderer on the earth; whoever finds me will kill me!”

  • God hates murder, but also showed grace to Cain for murdering his brother. Does this have any connection to how Christians should view the death penalty?

  • "Perfect people rebelled against God." Can you explain more Adam and Eve's ability to sin when they were without sin? How do we know this cycle won't happen again when we are in the new heaven and new earth, without sin?

  • In the Bible, it seems like names truly had meaning to the point that God would rename people to fit the new purpose He had for them. In today culture we name kids whatever is trending or sound nice. Do you think the meaning of names are still important or that we are still speaking the definition of the name over individuals?

  • Why was the tree of knowledge even in the garden if it could lead to such a fall?

  • What are the implications of animal death prior to Adam and Eve?

  • How does the church define CRT (critical race theory)? Is it biblical? Does it / and if yes, how does it relate to the gospel?

  • The sermon made it sound like we have an excuse for our sins, That it's ok to sin because we will just end up repenting and repeat. Are we not supposed to work on being better and not sinning? Are we justified by Romans and can keep doing the things that we don't want to do because it says so? This is where it seems like there's a another part to the sermon. No where did it talk about needing to be more Christ like and try to stop sinning. It sound more that we are justified to sin and all we need to do is repent and we can keep sinning.

83: Pastor Plek, Pastor James, and Catie Sas follow up on the $1000 Plek gave away to strangers before Christmas and tackle several tough questions on this week's bonus episode. Want to submit a question? Text 737-231-0605!

Faith, Culture, and all things in between.

Questions:

  • Do babies go to hell? I've heard arguments from both sides. What's y'all's take? Do babies go to hell? If not, at what point do babies/kids start going to hell?
  • What's are your views on the books of Enoch?

  • So to play off what Pastor Plek said Sunday "God purposed people to take His image global"... why do you think it's so easy for people to share their "food, pets, outfit of the day, etc" on their social media but they can't share their faith? People can scream & jump in their living room when their team gets a touchdown but they can't yell or jump in worship on Sunday. How would you encourage those to be more open in their worship and sharing and less fearful of what others may think? Hopefully that makes sense.

Faith, Culture, and all things in between.

Questions:- How do we talk to people w/o gossiping or complaining? Most people won't talk to you unless you gossip with them. And if you don't you get excluded, in church or the world.

  • I get what Joseph is saying about us finding our value in Christ. But it gets hard. I'm bullied by my roommates at home, my family, I have no friends, and work. I'm spending so much time in the Word and God has blessed me so much. But I'm finding that I'm pulling away from people because they all hate me and God loves me. What do I do? How do I love His kids, when they treat me and act like the enemy?

  • How do I juggle the joy that I have in Christ and the heartbreak of being surrounded by people who hate me and attack me, while praising God honestly? I praise God and I'm called a liar. I cry from the pain and I'm told I need to find joy in Christ. What do I do?

Question:The three P's (provide, protect, pursue): could you talk more about this? Men are supposed to be the leaders, but the church isn't building them to be faithful and loving towards their wife. Husband tends to speak highly of them being the ultimate provider and making more money than the wife. Hanging it over her head.  He doesn't pursue because of the way the wife looks and has outwardly expressed it. Do women's comparison issues stem from men's sexual addictions? Could go back to high school and how guys would talk about other girls in school which could make a girl then start comparing herself to others. She's not pretty or thin enough, so on.

77: This week, Pastor Plek, Pastor Joseph, and Catie Sas discuss a plethora of questions sent in! Want to submit a question? Text 737-231-0605!

Faith, Culture, and all things in between.

Questions:
-Question 1: I’ve only been attracted to men my whole life. I struggle with the notion of trying to "force" an attraction to women by dating. It can seem like trying to take control, but could also be interpreted as walking in faith depending on how you view it (God can change anything)... That's why I'm asking your perspective. In my mind I'm trying to take action because sitting around and just praying about it seems wrong. We are called to take action. But there's a fear that I'll date a women and just not develop physical attraction. So maybe it's just fear of that and not wanting to lead someone on

-Question 2: Who is deceived after Satan is released? Christians? Where are these people coming from? Similar question asked: You said for a thousand year Jesus will reign on earth in a perfect sinless world yet people will still turn away from him. Isn't turning away and denying Christ sin? How is it a perfect sinless world of people still deny Christ?

-Question 3: Is Christ ruling over all the earth during the thousand year reign? This is all prior to the new heaven and new earth, so is it possible that things still don't work perfectly during this period?

-Question 4: Question for the podcast: Since dualism isn't a thing, and hell is a place of judgement under God's authority, what does the phrase "gates of hell shall not prevail" from Matt. 16:18 mean?

-Question 5: Literal vs. figurative/metaphorical. Have had a tough time as we've gone through revelation as to what text is taken literally vs. what we take as metaphor. Seems pretty arbitrary. Example is rev 20:2

We're saying that the thousand years is a literal thousand years. Do we literally think that Satan was a dragon, a serpent, the devil and Satan all at the same exact time? if so, did he have multiple faces or what? Or are these descriptions metaphors?
IF we are saying they are metaphors then WHY don't we say the thousand years is a metaphor? These descriptions and the thousand years are all part of the same sentence. If the description of Satan is a metaphor then why would John use literalism in the same exact sentence?

Obviously no view of eschatology is perfect, they all have to "cheat" somewhere. If what I said above is true (about literal vs metaphor) doesn't it seem kinda like we're picking what fits our end times view and going with that?

76: This week, Pastor Plek, Pastor Joseph, and Catie Sas tackle questions over depression, discipleship, and Gospel issues. Want to submit a question? Text 737-231-0605!

Faith, Culture, and all things in between.

Questions:
- So if you take medication due to depression, does that mean you don't put enough trust in God?

  • How does being a Christian differ from being a disciple? I understand in the New Testament there are examples of Paul having disciples under him. Paul would use discipleship to train them to not only understand the gospel but how to spread it. Is it possible that Paul had disciples because the Bible wasn't available yet and this was the only way to teach the Gospel? For those who have the Bible shouldn't we be disciples to Jesus and not other Christians? Follow up question, is it possible to disciple someone that isn't a Christian (yet)?

  • The term "gospel issue" was brought up. How do you define a gospel issue? (Ie. "A gospel issue is an issue that ______'") Paul tell us: I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit-just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call- one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:1-6, ESV) So wouldn't any issue in all of the cosmos be a "gospel issue" since God is sovereign over all and the Bible is the story of the gospel?

  2. Your question at the end of the sermon, "Are you ready for God's wrath?", doesn't seem applicable since you stated the church believes in the rapture. Can you help explain this question and how it relates to believers? Thanks!

1.** You mentioned having an angel helper to spread the gospel to all nations ( Rev 14:6). You said “I can’t wait to have an angel helping me proclaim the gospel.” But I’m confused here because aren’t you going to be raptured beforehand?

  1. Rev 14:12 is a call for the perseverance of the saints. Who are these saints if believers are to be spared from the wrath of God during the Tribulation and GT? How is this text consistent with that ideology?

  2. Will the mark of the beast be visible? Obvious?

  3. So based on Revelation 14:4-5 does that mean women have no place in God's army or can't be following him in a blameless life during the Great Tribulation?

  4. Hey! Had a question about last week's podcast. There was a lot of talk about adoption and a lot of advice against adopting cross-culturally. 67: Pastor Plek and Joni Scott tackle questions regarding joy and mega churches in this week's episode.

Questions:*Why do you think the people responded in joy to hearing God's Law, yet today many of us respond in dread to hearing a bunch of shalls and shall nots?

Do you think it's possible for a church to grow past a certain size and remain true to the mission of serving Christ?  I know a church should grow and  I'm all for spreading the gospel but it seems like when one church (building not Church as a whole) grows they start losing their focus on Christ, which I like to believe none of them set out to do.  They start making small sacrifices to appease the crowd and continue to grow. It turns more into a business than an actual church (my limited opinion).  They start charging admission for "Christian events" (which I always find weird that they charge to hear the gospel).  The pastors seem to become the main focus instead of Christ.  How do you plan to ensure with the capital campaign that the church remains focus on Christ and not just building and increasing members?*

66: Pastor Plek and Catie Sas answer questions sent in about giving and judging in this week's episode.

Questions:

*I have been diving into an independent study on judgement and gifting. Obviously the Bible says it is not our place to judge others multiple times throughout in various ways. It also mentions God gifting everyone with different gifts, in order to share in the responsibilities of the church, and in sharing Gods word with others. But some scripture I stumble across also mentions weak and strong faith, as well as not judging others, and gifting. Can someone explain this concept to me? For example Romans 14:1-13

I have been thinking this over a great deal, about committing/ promising to give over and above to the campaign. In life things happen, as much as I would like to skip joyfully with blinders on, that is not my life. If I promise to give a certain amount and something happens, It would hurt my heart to disappoint the church, but it would break my heart to disappoint God. Do you have any thoughts or words to help me with this*

65: Join us this week as Pastor Plek, Pastor Joseph, and Catie Sas discuss homosexuality and second marriages from a biblical perspective.

Questions*:

What is the churches view on Homosexuality? Of course we love them, but does the church believe actively living that lifestyle is wrong? Can someone participating or condoning LGBT lifestyles be a leader or serve in ministry at WBCC? I looked for some information on the churches views in this, but didn't see any. If you have already covered this somewhere, please let me know.

Hello, I have concerns over what is a Godly marriage and what is not. I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman (not same sex) but I don't understand why the church doesn't preach about the dangers of second marriages (which Jesus talks about in Matthew 5). I feel like I am harming my friends/family who are in second marriages by acting like their marriage is holy. I believe outside of infidelity there is no grounds for a Christian to remarry after divorce (even though Jesus says this is due to the hardness of our hearts and not something to strive for). I understand the argument about "grace" but why do we only extend "grace" to heterosexual remarried couples but not Same sex married individuals. I do believe we need to push loved ones to "sin no more" but don't understand how they are trying to "sin no more" while still in the second marriage. I watched sermons over it and prayed about but the more I study the more I see how wrong second marriages are for Christians (while previous spouse is still alive). I heard many reasons for it but none that I think are scripture based. I heard "the first marriage didn't count because it's not the spouse God wanted for me" I believe that we get to chose who we marry and God will hold us to that vow. I also heard " God wouldn't punish you for your first marriage not working by keeping you single" but that is implying that "singleness" is a curse which I don't believe. I just don't feel comfortable saying gay marriage is wrong and harmful while sweeping the second marriage hypocrisy under the rug. Please advise how second marriages are not as wrong as gay marriages on the eyes of God (also please provide scriptures for your reasoning). Sorry if this text is long. I prefer conversation but am worried that you will only address it over the podcast so I want to ensure I include all my issues.*

63: Pastor Plek, Pastor Joseph, Lizzie Turk, and Host Catie Sas dive into lengthy questions from Sunday morning's sermon.

Questions: *In the diagram of the purpose in the Upper Room... there is a pic representing speaking in tongues, communion and foot washing... does WBCC practice foot washing?

  • I’m not sure if preaching the Word solidly or giving out the "nuggets of wisdom" really goes along with being too focused on program or personality, or trying to just get something for yourself out of going to church. The Word is living and active and sharper than a two edged sword. Pulling punches in regards to preaching doctrine doesn't necessarily mean you're reaching more people/unbelievers. God promises his Word won't return void. It can and will do the very work that we think we can do ourselves by only saying "basic stuff" that's easy to understand instead. I’ve heard before, speaking of preaching, that "what you win them WITH is what you win them TO". What's your take on that? If it's consistently just "basic stuff" preached, won't it be much more likely the "basic stuff" is what will continue to be expected permanently? Won't that produce what you said, like a "30 year old 8 year old"? Spurgeon said "Hide not the offense of the cross, lest you make it of none effect. The angles and corners of the gospel are its strength: to pare them off is to deprive it of power. Toning down is not the increase of strength, but the death of it." He's basically saying that sticking to "basic stuff" can have the opposite effect of just preaching the Word boldly. Do you agree/disagree? Why?
  • “so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11 ESV
  • “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart." Hebrews 4:12 ESV
Sorry for the length :) and all this is asked in the spirit of genuine curiosity and discussion, not a spirit of disagreement or disunity. I appreciate the concepts presented and I believe the main theme was rightly presented that going to church is not for us to just get our "religious goods and services".

What are Grecian Jews?

I have a question about purpose over preference. I probably sound like I am complaining and whining. I have arthritis, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and etc. I usually stay at home, and isolate, and take care of the pain with some medicine, and a hot pack, etc. I would like to know how I could serve in the church, with all of my disabilities I am not in a Community Group, yet, but I was. I need some help finding out what is my calling in the church. Is this possible for someone in the church to help me with this?*

62: Pastor Plek, Pastor Joseph, and Catie Sas discuss a plethora of questions sent in for this week's episode!

Questions:
*Can you talk more about "for the sake of your prayers"? Are you saying God answers prayers more when I am not living in sin?

Submit to government authorities? How far do I go? What if they force me to be vaccinated?

Where do things like mask mandates and vaccines fall if 1 Peter says to submit to governments or jobs that require them?

Can you talk more about how men should provide, protect, pursue?

I had a question about how the idea of "for the sake of your prayers" was presented. It almost felt like it was talked about as "if you're holy, then God will hear your prayers". I don't think that was the intention, but I felt like it could have been communicated in a different way, like "we hear more clearly from God and communicate in a more genuine way when we are seeking God and pursuing holiness/righteousness". Shouldn't the focus be about where our heart is? If we're not convicted and that's why we're not praying, that's different. But I feel that it's all too easy for the enemy to tell us that we don't deserve God to hear our prayers because we are not holy enough, and isn't that the last thing God would want? Isn't God our loving Abba Father who always has His arms open to us, unconditionally? The alternative seems to be conditional love/presence.

What exactly is joy? The most I've seen are people putting on brave faces that masks pain that nobody wants to talk about.

What do you do, when your fellow believers use the passages of dying to yourself and submission, as an excuse to abuse/bully/mistreat/guilt-trip/harass you? Is allowing them to treat yourself like this and do whatever they demand of you, an act of dying to yourself and love to them?*

Judges 7:1, is Gideon's name Jerubbaal? If so, why does the Bible mostly refer to Jerubbaal as Gideon?

What is a good way to tell if God is withholding blessing because of pride versus me just experiencing the normal suffering of life?

Fear seems to be an extremely common human experience. Even when Gideon gets all these signs from God he is still afraid. Why is this such a common thing that every human being struggles with? Did sin entering into creation inherently just make us afraid as humans?*

Please sell me on how Jesus isn't actually calling us to sell all our possessions and follow him? That's what he did, that's what all his disciples did so why would he say that if he didn't truly mean it?

Does Jesus himself provide other specific direction about how to get into heaven? the directions to accept Jesus as lord and savior as the sole way to get into heaven doesn't that come almost expressly from books written by Paul?

How can we the western church preach sermons about the poor and giving and investing in those that have less…then be so tied into the "pull yourself up by your boot straps," "no hand outs" and  "no welfare" that we see from the far right? Almost as if it's okay to do as a church but not a government.*

49: Pastor Plek discusses the symbols in Revelation with Pastor James Foster in this week's podcast.

Questions: So our church sees the millennium or 1000 years in revelation as a literal thousand years. If we are to read that literally why don't we literally read other things in revelation? Such as Satan being a dragon. Is Satan an actual literal dragon while simultaneously being an actual literal serpent? If some things are literal and some things aren't, how do you/we pick and choose what we want to read as literal and what to read as imagery?

45: This week Pastor Plek answers many questions regarding God's Will and eschatology.

Questions:
*How do we pray according to God's will when it may not be clear?

Why specifically seven of everything?

How do we identify the functional saviors in our heart/life and others? Any resources that are helpful?

I believe one of the biggest problems with the pre-tribulation rapture view is the type of Christian who believes in it. In my experience, they are shallow and materialistic and are just cherry-picking the most convenient eschatology. They want to graduate college, find a career, get married, buy a house, and then retire comfortably. The tribulation would be awfully inconvenient to them so they just pretend it won't happen. What would be your response to this kind of perspective?

What if we pray according to God's will-like for someone's salvation- and God doesn't save them?*

34: Pastor Plek talks about accountability for Christians and non-Christians in this week's podcast.

Questions:
Chris, you said "people without the Holy Spirit cannot be held accountable for what can only be done through the Holy Spirit." So, before one becomes a Christian, how are people held accountable for choosing good or evil or for how they treat others? Are they accountable? Are people powerless to change or make moral choices before they commit to Christ? Are unbelievers obligated as image bearers of God under His common grace to live rightly? Is an unbelieving child accountable and able to learn obedience to parents? Loved your sermon! My inquiry is genuinely sincere. Thank you for tackling hard questions.

*Q2:How does maintaining proper emotional boundaries fit into being known and loved? Someone said that 'Jesus ministered to thousands, sent out 72, was friends with 12, but was only intimate with 3 people.' How does CHRISTIAN family, fit with this idea?

Q3: What about safety, should we love someone, even if they put you in the hospital or emotionally wear you down to the point where you put yourself in the hospital?

Q4:What's the difference between, projecting past hurts onto our view of others vs. discernment of potentially toxic behaviors/patterns?And what do you do, when the other person won't take responsibility for their own hurtful actions, because they use your past as an excuse (not explaining their motives, just dismissing what you say completely as irrelevant)?*

Question Below:
"have been asking my wife, a bunch of questions about how God showed no mercy or love to any race/people who were not descendents of the jews.  Seems he would wipe them out even though they never had a chance to know of the Jewish folks.  Have other questions about ancient civilizations or ones no ties to the Middle East relationship with God.   Not understanding how God felt or dealt with them when they died.In present days,  it would be asking what happens to folks that just never have had a chance to hear about the Bible and Jesus?  Like the people in Tanzania that died before our missionaries had a chance to share the message"

29: What can a wife do when since the beginning of their marriage the husband hates sex, and does nothing to fix or ask for help? What if sex is once a year and it feels that the person is doing it out of obligation?

Is it better to test where the sexual limit falls before sex or remain far from physical touch if it is too risky? Would this affect the relationship from growing deeper?

What if you come to know Jesus when you're in a longterm relationship? Are you expected to leave the person you've been with for the past 5 years? What if that person never wants to get married only live together?

I disagree with your statement on the different versions of the wife(2.0, 3.0 babies, 4.0, etc) and how the husband would change the way they look at their wife. My husband constantly criticizes my body and what I eat on a daily basis which effects our sex life because he thinks the worst about me and doesn't like me because of the way I look and what I eat.

So how do we know that what is commonly referred to as God is just some inter-dimensional being that exists outside of the dimension of time and space that we are most familiar with.  Without scientific knowledge of spacetime it's understandable that our ancestors assigned religious feelings and stories about the unknown.

Or God could be the developer of a simulation we were in. And Christianity is one way of the developer trying to communicate to us how to advance to the next version without intervention.

When soft bullying does happen, how do we believers address it? It’s easy to dismiss/gaslight uncomfortableness (Did they really say that/do that? This is church so you must be mistaken.) but that doesn’t make it go away, it just puts the burden back on those being targeted and shames them into silence.

18: Check out this week as Pastor Plek answers a tough question on gossip and relationships within the church.

Specific Questions below :
1)How are we supposed to respond to Church gossip and slandering?

2) Everything that I’ve read says that when someone in the church hurts you, you ‘just have to forgive them.’ When we’re children and we hurt someone, the parents and sometimes other adults intervene and tells them not to do that and what they should do instead. But as adults, nobody ever corrects toxic/hurtful behavior (locker room talk that guys share about their sisters in Christ, social games that isolate/slander certain members of the church). Instead, the people who try to bring these issues to light are often silenced, shamed, and shunned. Even if the offender say all the right trigger words (words we associate with either repentance or to minimize the offense without taking reasonable action to prevent future harm), there is no accountability for ‘socially acceptable sin.’ How do we continue to be a part of the church, without engaging in the socially acceptable forms of sin to fit in (i.e. cutting someone down, soft-bullying certain people to be accepted by the majority)?

3) As a female in the church, I have a hard time relating to the men (especially the young single men) in the church. There are some young men, who have isolated me and my other young women friends from engaging with the congregation outside of Sunday activities, because I won’t become eye candy, date, flirt, or entertain conversations that are implicit. Only when our standards appears to be relaxed or when we appear to entertain the idea of dating them, are we ‘allowed back I in’ (which I refuse to do.) Also, there are men who will not help a women when she is in need of help (like moving heavy furniture) unless she is a romantic interest (until she refuses him) or if he already as a woman at his side. Not all the men are like that, there are some who have helped me purely for altruistic reasons (whom I really respect and appreciate), but more often than not (especially in my age range), I’m treated poorly. How do I love the men in the church as my brothers in Christ, when they see women only as tools and expect women to treat their bodies as currency to be acknowledged?

4) How do people who have been hurt by the church overcome cynicism toward the church, especially when they observe the same behaviors that have hurt them in the past being repeated?
