Melody Lapczynski spearheaded this effort, after hearing the pride of another Ohio town with the designation. When asked if she was the instigator of it, she says that many helped, but she did ask "why don't we?"
Aside from all the supporters, veterans and families, and local leaders, a group of Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center students also gave of their time for the event. Tea McCaulla is co-advisor to the local "Skills USA" chapter, and she said her students spent the previous three days weeding, mulching, painting, and repairing a bench built a few years ago by the school.

Melody Lapczynski wrote "The Carlisle - The History and the Renovation" while she was working two doors down and watching it gradually be rescued after the 2004 arson fire.

Bob Paduchik worked for the two Trump campaigns and was the Republican National Co-Chair. He spoke at the annual "Lincoln Day Dinner" of the Ross County Republican Party.
Paduchik said he had been in politics for 35 years, and found Donald Trump to be someone completely new in the field.
The past chair of the Ohio Republican Party also spoke. Jane Timken is now running to be a U.S. senator.
As Memorial Day approaches, Chillicothe's Yoctangee Park will be the center of a military remembrance Saturday, May 8th, 2021.
Educator and Veteran Bob Leach is writing a book describing all 321 service members from Ross County who died in U.S. wars in the 20th century. That inspired the free event, "Ross County in the Nation's Wars," 1 to 4 this Saturday in and around Yoctangee Park.

Mother Sammy Rowe said her three-week-old infant Luke stopped breathing, and Luke's father was performing CPR as they were headed back to the hospital on Bridge Street. Officer Jonathan Dunham and Officer Terry Brown caught up with them at the Olive Garden and rushed Luke the rest of the way while performing CPR.
