Jenny Leavitt is a pastor’s wife who has written for ministry publications for years but never considered that “real” writing. She just did it because she loved it and there was a need. Now, she serves alongside her husband in a community desperate for Good News, where she continues to be amazed at how far God will go to rescue broken, hurting people.
She wrote GodPrints after feeling compelled to share her family’s story of God’s faithfulness through shattering loss. She continues to encourage others to lean into Jesus in all of life’s ups and downs and in-betweens.
While her youngest son, Jacob, is already home in heaven, her oldest son, Caleb, daily makes her proud as he strives to love Jesus and be the man God called him to be. Jenny and Myron, her best friend and husband of nearly thirty years, make their home in central Florida with a dog who thinks she’s a cat.

Today on Project Redemption, Larry and Jean Johnson share how they unexpectedly heard God’s voice which led them to a ministry in China.
For twenty-five years Larry and Jean Johnson lived in the Midwest. Although Jean worked as a registered nurse and Larry enjoyed farming, they desired to minister to people’s souls. In the early 1990s they answered the call to full-time missionary work founding Will Go Inc., a nonprofit missions organization impacting lives around the globe. They enjoy traveling, trying new cuisines, gardening, Scrabble, and Dr. Pol. The couple have three adult children and three beautiful grandchildren.
What is your favorite verse?
LARRY – John 3:16-17. This scripture tell of God’s love for me and the whole world.
JEAN – The 23rd Psalm. It brings such assurance, peace, and encouragement to my heart.

Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
This is the verse that first offered me hope when processing through all of my childhood trauma, my two abortions and all of life’s challenges that have come since.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
This verse has given me the freedom to not “need” to understand the why’s behind the hurts and simply trust God.

My favorite used to be Romans 12:2 because being raised in a false religion (Urantia). I needed a transformed mind but now I’m torn between it and Habakkuk 1:5. Like Habakkuk, I’ve cried out to God (for years) to remedy our family’s dysfunction and (though I didn’t know it at the time) like Habakkuk the situation was going to get worse.

John 15:15 NIV I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
I love this verse because it shows that Jesus wants to have a relationship with each of us. He is our friend, that is so cool. When He gave me this verse, I was praying and ended it with my friend, He told me “You finally got it”. Yes, I got it, and my life has never been the same. Not about religion, it’s all about relationships.

“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord.
I LOVE this passage because we most often focus on how God knows and understands us, but, here He gives us a glimpse into His own heart of HIS desire TO BE KNOWN and UNDERSTOOD by us. He DELIGHTS in being known by us! And, the more we know Him and His attributes, the more we’ll reflect His attributes.

Despite the name on her birth certificate, everyone always called Mary Ethlarine Joyce, “Renee.” When she married her husband, Sal, in 1976, she officially became Renee Marini. Having answered God’s call to start a clinic at the Sons of Thunder ministry in Zambia, Renee and Sal have served there since 2005. Renee is amazed at all God has done and is doing through their simple obedience. Together, she and Sal have three sons and six grandchildren. She is the author of A Life of Significance: Ordinary People Fulfilling the Extraordinary Call of God.
What is your favorite scripture / lifetime verse (and why)?
One of my favorite verses (Sal’s also) is the end of Joshua 24:15 “….As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
It has special meaning for both of us because in prayer, we gave our sons to God. We put them in His hands and told Him “…as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” After surrendering and taking our hands off of them trying to control outcomes, we saw each of our sons come to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
God called me and my husband Sal to minister to the people of Zambia, Africa. His initial call was to “start a clinic” on a farm at Sons of Thunder, a new ministry at the time started by our church in Damascus, Maryland. We started out with one room and step by step over the last 18 years as He led, there is now a full medical complex, including an outpatient clinic, a freestanding lab, a maternity center, an inpatient facility, 6 staff houses and a fleet of three vehicles for transport, outreach and home care.
God’s call however expanded over the years to include “raise the standard” and “feed a nation,” which has led to 80 families living and working on the farm; a primary school; two preschools; a day care center; a conference center; a sewing center; agriculture including raising chickens and fish as well as planting and harvesting fruits, vegetables, maize, moringa and sunflower using a method of farming called Farming God’s Way; a maize mill to turn the maize into mealie meal used to make the staple food “nshima” and a complete business center with sales office and supply room. There are also two churches on the farm and multiple church plants in surrounding areas.
What is the ONE thing you want people to know about you?
“When it is all said and done, I want people to know I am nothing special, just a willing and faithful servant who heard and obeyed. I want people to see my willingness and obedience to carry out God’s plan for my life.”

She has worked with crisis pregnancy centers, done post-abortion counseling, opened a maternity home and joined Operation Rescue. She has been pushed, spit on, handcuffed, beaten, injured by nunchuckus, shackled, arrested twenty-four times, written up sixty-three times for injunction violations, and received a mafia death threat. It was as a sidewalk counselor, however, that Karen learned her compassionate woman-centered approach to encouraging women to choose life over abortion which resulted in over nine thousand women choosing life and has earned her national recognition as “The Billy Graham of Sidewalk Counseling.” She has also earned the Power of One award from the Georgia Family Council.
