Alland Byallo: Recent Episodes

Alland Byallo

This used to be a really long bio about all the stuff I've done but my new bio just says "Hi, I'm Alland and I like making and collecting music. I was born and raised in LA, moved to SF in 2003 and had a big, fancy, well-known techno party with some friends for seven years.

Then I moved to Berlin in 2010 and other fun stuff happened. Got an album out on Third Ear, some singles on Room With A View, Dirt Crew, Poker Flat Rawax, Housewax and some other nice labels. Had a couple residencies in clubs and radio stations. I'm in a band called KAMM that's released albums on Circus Company and Intimate Friends.

I also work at Beatport as the Senior Designer and have my own little label called Full Bleed Sound. I love buying synths I can't afford and I'd most likely like to pet your dog."

I like this bio more.

Recording from my Beatport LINK Weekly live stream. Fun was had. I'll add a playlist some time soon. Video archive is in the "buy" link :) I forgot we had a few problems at the very end, so didn't delete. It's a bit rough, but we'll get through it together. Promise. Swearsies.

Shouts to @beatport family for having me! <3

Alland Byallo returns with a new label after a hiatus spent focusing on his design career. Full Bleed serves as a playground for the California-born-and-raised DJ/producer. Over the past 15 years Byallo's music has come to life on respected labels such as Third Ear Recordings, Housewax, Release Sustain and many more.

Now, after an illustrious career as a globe-trotting DJ/producer, living the double life as a freelance designer for both dance music-related and corporate clients, Byallo now calls Berlin his home and spends his days as the Lead Designer at Beatport, the industry-leading digital dance music store. Though no longer living the nightlife, Byallo’s unwavering commitment to dance music culture continues to thrive, both as a visual artist and with his continued involvement in music production.

Flashback 2009...

Alland Byallo's debut LP 'Brick By Brick' was released on his own digital label to great response worldwide. The now defunct Nightlight Music served as a platform to release music by Byallo and a core group of mostly Bay Area artists, and promote the artists via a residency at San Francisco's legendary 222 Hyde club.

This album epitomized Byallo's signature groove-oriented techno/house hybrid sound, and went on to receive 4 star reviews from both Resident Advisor and XLR8R, two of The States' finest electronic music magazines, among many others.

After a recent listen, we've decided that the tracks stood the test of time remarkably well, and decided to offer up the release once again.

Marcel Vogel's Intimate Friends imprint will release the debut LP from KAMM, the collaborative project from Dave Aju, Alland Byallo, Kenneth Scott, and Marc Smith—whose shared label pedigree is quite something, taking in Poker Flat, Dessous, Circus Company, Moodmusic, Liebe*Detail, Third Ear, Hypercolour, and Rawax, among many others.

Kick Drunk Love will land on Intimate Friends following on from Dikkens' Retrospect Of A Mind with six low-slung, loose grooves. With live instrumentaion—the quartet recorded live guitar and trumpet parts, with Damian Schwartz playing bass on the track titled “Sidewalk"—vocals, and a downtempo, swinging nature, the mini LP is a decidedly more home listening affair than the solo output of the members, although adventurous DJs will surely find dancefloor gems amongst its contents. As stated by its members, the LP is influenced by “...a love of early ‘90s MoWax era laid-back beats.”

Positive support and feedback from:
Jazz Standards (website), Mixmag, Mr. Ties, Severino (Horse Meat Disco), Llorca, Red Rack'em, Markus Enochson, Phil Asher, Soulphiction, Alex Attias, Melon, Ali OOFT, Roman Rauch, Jimpster, Rayko, Cinnaman, Beaner, Ben Mono, DJ Kaspar, Rahaan and many more.

Happy Wednesday from Berlin! I'm proud to present BD1982 for this installment of Animal Crackers. BD1982 is Brian Durr, an American living in Tokyo. I first heard of his label, Diskotopia, by stumbling into a release by label partner A Taut Line a few years back. The label consistently releases eclectic, unique and magical music by the partners themselves, Visionist, Silvestre and many other talented souls. It's a really special institution! So here you go... I hope you enjoy this mix by BD1982 as much as I do. -Alland

BD1982 is a producer/DJ currently residing in Tokyo, Japan originally from New Jersey, USA. He co-runs the Diskotopia label with A Taut Line and has most recently released an EP titled Salience. I'll keep it somewhat brief. Fine. This is a total lie. Brevity is not my forté ;-)

I made this edit/remix of one of the greatest figures in soul/jazz music, Andy Bey. His music is so special, so unique. This version of his legendary song 'Hibiscus' is a funky, housey affair... as per usual for my SBB edits and remixes. I want to give a shout to @the-ransom-note for streaming the premiere of this on their amazing site, and in general for their continued support of my music.

Please share, repost and enjoy!

Now then, since this is unlicensed I implore you to discover and BUY Andy Bey's music. You will thank me for it, if you're not already familiar. Here's his page on Discogs where you can find all of his records new and used. http://www.discogs.com/artist/42059-Andy-Bey

Also, if Mr. Bey or his management are unhappy with my posting this, I will immediately take it down if I'm contacted to do so. Not trying to upset anybody :)

Greetings from Planet BOOM! Or rather my desk in my office at my job. Whatever! I'm proud to present our new podcast to you. Your ears, minds and souls are in for a treat! I found out about Polish techno minimalist Michal Wolski via our friends @blank-slate-sounds . His refined, immersive sound really blew my mind. Since then I've dug deeper into this guy's discography and been so thoroughly impressed! It's rare to find somebody that really brings an HONEST, truly "minimal" sound these days. That term is thrown around so loosely! Anyway, check out this extraordinary mix. It's a beauty, and one of the best things I've heard all year. From darker ambient, to droney techno, this mix takes the listener places far away and deep inside, no doubt. -Alland

Musician, journalist, radio host. In his works he is looking for a balance between the corporeal and the contemplative aspects of music. Sound induced by him can be described as something between techno, deep techno and dub techno, under a deep impact of broadly although not always explicitly understood ambient. Founder of Minicromusic Rec., record label which focus on such electronic music genres like techno, deep techno, dub techno, minimal techno etc. Related to Blank Slate Rec., Eerie Rec., Technosoul Rec., Recognition Rec., Silent Season Rec.

Emerging from somewhere in between light and darkness, Jamaica forges her vision of techno duality, hammering out deep stormy rhythms that reinforce a gentle story of poly phonies. Originally from Northern California, Jamaica’s electronic experience became her identity while exploring sounds of the San Francisco underground. Years prior she immersed herself into bands playing bass guitar in various genres, from jazz to psychedelic rock. Shortly after graduating from audio school Jamaica took a haphazard trip to Berlin that finally changed it all. The rest is history; since living in Berlin for the past 3 years she has built a professional recording studio where she spends most of her time carving away at her ever evolving sound. Up next stay tuned for Jamaica Suk's next Solo EP release on Face to Face Recordings in November 2015 and a vinyl only release on L.A.G. in December 2015.

Patrik Skoog, also known as Agaric, is an artist and friend who's inspired me so much over all these years, and continues to do so not just with his great music, but with his humility, his ceaseless hard work and dedication. It's a great honor and pleasure to welcome such a prolific fella to the fold. I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I am! It's on non-stop repeat over here!! -AB

Agaric's elongated discography pre-dates the moniker by almost a decade. Starting out as early as 15, and releasing his first record just a few years later (Patrik Skoog together with Aon FluX and Henrik Larsson as Headroom), he isn’t only one of Sweden’s youngest house and techno producers to earn the title of veteran, he’s probably the most deserving with over 200 discursive vinyl and digital releases stacked in his favour.

This track was originally meant to be the B-side to my recent 'Dead Ringer' record. It was professionally mixed and mastered and was ready to roll. After many listens, I decided that the two just didn't fit together, and since I had been working a lot more on the broken beat techno, I figured 'Good Hurt' was a better compliment to the title track.

A few of my friends have been bugging me to shop this to a vinyl label, but I've decided to make it available for free 320 MP3 download, with an FLAC version available for just €1.50 on our website. That's lovely, lossless audio. I definitely recommend DJs opt for that.

It's a super trippy, super long track that just goes to space and beyond. I hope you dig it! I've also created the art work myself, as per usual ;-)

I only ask that you respect me enough to write me to chat about licensing if you decide to use it in a commercially available mix or something like that. You know... just be cool, ok?

We've hit a serious heatwave here in Berlin. All I want to do is light one up, drink one down, throw some flesh on the grill and KICK IT to some reggae and dub. That's why I'm so excited about this new podcast!

Rob Paine… what can I say? I first heard of the man in the early 2000's, while I was working at Doc Martin's WAX Records. The Philly-based DJ/producer's dub-minded take on House Music really hit me hard, and helped influence a generation of West Coast house fanatics. From his work as Solomonic Sound, such as the hit jam "Children of Israel" which I picked up on a white label back in the day, to his output on Grayhound and his own Worship Recordings, this man's sound has been a huge influence on me and many others. Now the guy's working hard on new productions, the Worship imprint and collaborations with cats like Someone Else.

We welcome the don Rob Paine to Animal Crackers! Enjoy the ride!

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Rob Paine’s roots run deep. From the moment he heard the deep dubby sounds of Reggae as just a youth he knew he had found his sound. His love for the heavy Reggae sounds grew into a forward movement and soon took on a life of it’s own by using the foundation of reggae music as his center piece for all his house & deep techno productions. In 1993 Rob began DJ’ing and throwing events with his crew, “Circle Productions”, who were responsible for the most popular parties and weekly club nights in Philadelphia throughout the 90’s. During this time Rob started producing a broad range of reggae and reggae influenced music including house, deep techno, broken beat, dub, and down-tempo. His unique sounds were soon being released on labels like Large, Tango, Shaboom & Greyhound just to name a few. Following the success of those tracks, his music was licensed to labels like Bedrock, Fabric & NRK. In 1998 Rob formed his own world-renowned imprint, Worship Recordings.

Over the years Rob has performed at some of the most exclusive clubs and events in locations like Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and London. He has played the infamous Fabric, PS1 in NYC, and Francois K’s Deep Space event. He has held monthly residencies in San Francisco, weeklies in South Beach Miami, performed year after year at the Shambhala & Soundwave festivals in BC, and is currently holding down residencies in DC and Philadelphia.

Rob produces the majority of the projects released on Worship. In 1999 he was awarded the ‘Most Innovative Producer’ by the Philadelphia City Paper. His ‘dub house’ style of production marked him as a forward thinker, blazing the path for future infusions of dub and house sounds for years to come. He recently released ‘What You See’ EP on Matt Tolfrey’s LeftRoom Records under the name Circle with partner Keith Landis & Gerhardt Koerner (Rise 8) that is doing extremely well. Being selected by Maceo Plex for recent mix compilation. You will see a lot more releases from Circle and Rob Paine’s other projects including a full length Rise 8 album and a EP on i Records.

Rob Paine is an innovator, visionary & one of the cities most prolific DJ’s, producers & musicians. He continually pushes the elements of dub into house and techno music. He has created a world renowned studio & sound system with his full commitment to the city of Philadelphia’s ever continuing music mecca. His talent shines furiously every time he performs whether it is House or Reggae or somewhere in between. Rob Paine does not disappoint. Pure quality every time.
