As we head into the end of the semester and the holidays are upon us, we begin to lose our momentum. You may have times where you have to go beyond your best and do what is required of you. Don’t allow your fatigue to miss the opportunity of the moment.
Before you can begin a thing you must take care of any unfinished business. Take the time to end well so you can begin well. Let me know your thoughts! Email me at info@candacehutson.com.
In this episode I chat with Joy Simuel of Joy Simuel Consulting LLC on the topic of IEP's (Individualized Education Plans). Joy is an energetic and experienced special education professional with a passion for pushing students to realize their full potential. With over 10 years of experience she is a dedicated and resourceful educator with a solid commitment to the growth of the whole child. Giving parents the knowledge and confidence, they need to advocate for their child. It was during an annual review of IEP (individualized education plans) and re-evaluation meetings that Joy realized parents were signing documents, leaving meetings not feeling heard and overwhelmed. She decided that she would start her own special education consulting business to help parents navigate the special education process. After much prayer Joy resigned from her teaching position on June 13, 2019 from Fairfax County Public Schools and took the leap of faith to start Joy Simuel Consulting LLC. If you need assistance with your student's IEP you can find Joy at www.simuelconsulting.com and on Instagram @joysimuel. Be Encouraged

I've never heard anyone discourage a white student from attending an all white school. Sounds crazy huh? Just as ridiculous to think black students cannot thrive in an environment where everyone looks like THEM. It's time to normalize students of ANY race applying or attending ANY school they want to because that's THEIR desire, not YOURS. Be encouraged.
In this week's episode, I give high school seniors tips on what to do while you wait for your college decisions to come in. Waiting can be a daunting process but there is so much you can do. Enjoy this week's episode.
I released a series called "Conversations with my Dad" on my IG and FB pages this week. In this episode I share two of my takeaways. What it means to push against the rock in tough situations and how everything that looks like a blessing may not be. Be encouraged.
Parents no one will support, guide and encourage your student more than you. In this college process, you will need to roll up sleeves and partner with your student to ensure their success....which is also yours.
I know it’s hard to believe, but the guidance counselor can’t serve you personally the way you’d like them to. But they do have an important role. Let’s get clear on their role so we can partner with them to best serve our students.
I know sometimes our feelings can lie to us. They can lead us to make decisions or take actions that we may regret. Although these things can be true it doesn't negate that fact that you are feeling something. Don't ignore your feelings, process them. Once you process then you can make the right decision or respond in the correct manner.
Parents sometimes we put our stories on our students. It can hinder them in the process of the becoming the best version of themselves. What story do you need heal from today?
One of the foundational things I believe we all need to thrive is relationship. Building a relationship with your student is a KEY component to their success. Let's take the time to build a strong foundation from the ground up.
