Bob Dunkle is running as the Republican candidate for the Vermont House representing the Windsor-Orange District, serving the towns of Royalton and Tunbridge. Dunkle also believes Vermont needs less political division and more cooperation.

We're literally fighting to survive as a state, and for the people who are doing everything they can to stay here. We can create a coalition of 'Vermont First' legislators focused on bringing people, jobs, and prosperity back to our state."
Dunkle says his campaign is centered on practical solutions that strengthen Vermont's economy, support rural communities, and encourage people to build their future in the Green Mountain State.

Vermont’s own Rici Perdue is headed to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota as part of Team Vermont. Rici will compete in Track & Field while representing the Green Mountain State on one of the biggest stages in inclusive sports.
The 2026 Special Olympics USA Games will take place June 20–26 in Minneapolis–Saint Paul and will feature nearly 3,000 athletes from across all 50 states competing in 16 sports.
According to Special Olympics Vermont, Team Vermont’s delegation includes 31 athletes, Unified partners, and coaches making the trip to Minnesota. Rici Goldstein-Perdue is listed among Vermont’s Track & Field athletes representing the state at nationals.
The Games are expected to draw more than 75,000 fans and thousands of volunteers for a week focused on inclusion, competition, and community.

There was a time when Brandon Bruttemesso was a troubled middle schooler, struggling to find his direction and footing in life. But sometimes all it takes is the right people stepping in at the right time to completely change the course of someone’s future. With guidance from his father, support and discipline from his wrestling coach, and positive influences from those around him, Brandon was given the opportunity to turn his life around. Programs like Sweethearts & Heroes also made an impact when they came into his school, helping reinforce the importance of leadership, accountability, kindness, and character. Instead of continuing down the wrong path, Brandon put himself on a fast track toward success. Through hard work, perseverance, and the lessons he learned along the way, he grew into the man he is today, proof that with the right support system, mentorship, and determination, people can overcome challenges and completely rewrite their story.

Here in Vermont, the debate over H.237 has exposed a much bigger national conversation about access to mental health care, provider shortages, patient safety, and how the system adapts to growing demand.
The legislation, now signed into law as Act 84, allows certain doctoral-level psychologists in Vermont to prescribe psychiatric medications after completing specialized postdoctoral training, supervised clinical work, and entering into collaborative agreements with medical professionals.
Supporters say the bill is a response to reality.
Vermont, like much of the country, faces a severe shortage of psychiatrists and mental health providers, especially in rural communities. Patients often wait months for medication management appointments, and many areas simply do not have enough psychiatric prescribers. Advocates argue that highly trained psychologists already spend far more time with patients in therapy than many medication providers do, making them uniquely positioned to recognize symptoms, monitor progress, and provide integrated care.
Opponents, including some psychiatrists and medical organizations, argue that psychologists do not receive the same depth of medical training as physicians. Their concern centers on the risks of prescribing medications that can interact with physical health conditions, other prescriptions, heart issues, neurological disorders, or substance use complications. Critics warn that expanding prescribing authority could create patient safety concerns if oversight and training standards are not rigorous enough.
The law itself attempts to address those concerns through restrictions and safeguards. Under H.237, prescribing psychologists must complete advanced psychopharmacology education and supervised clinical training. Their authority is limited to mental health conditions, and there are restrictions involving children, elderly patients, pregnancy, injectable drugs, and controlled substances. Collaborative agreements with licensed prescribers are also required.
Nationally, Vermont joins only a small group of states that allow psychologists to prescribe medications. States including New Mexico, Louisiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Idaho have adopted versions of similar laws over the past two decades. Supporters point to those states as evidence that the model can work safely when properly regulated. Opponents argue the long-term data remains limited and that expanding psychiatry residency programs would be a better solution.
The bigger question may be where mental health treatment is heading overall. The field is moving toward more integrated and personalized care, combining therapy, medication, neuroscience, digital monitoring, telehealth, trauma-informed treatment, and potentially psychedelic-assisted therapies now being studied nationwide. Vermont has increasingly become part of those conversations, particularly around alternative treatment models, rural access, and behavioral health reform.
At the same time, there is growing frustration with a system many people feel is already overwhelmed. Patients struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, or severe mental illness often face long waits, provider shortages, insurance barriers, and fragmented care. H.237 reflects one attempt to expand the workforce and rethink who can safely participate in treatment delivery.
The reality is that both sides of the debate are arguing from legitimate concerns. One side sees urgency in expanding access during a mental health crisis. The other sees caution as essential when powerful medications are involved.

This morning on Aired Out, I was joined by Cassandra Bickford, who stopped by to talk about an incredible opportunity for a local Destination Imagination team heading to Globals. Destination Imagination is a unique program that blends STEAM and theater, challenging students to think creatively, problem-solve, and bring their ideas to life on stage. From writing and acting to building their own costumes, props, and backdrops, these students do it all themselves. Cassie shared how their team’s performance, centered around a creative story involving plant characters, earned them a spot at the Global Finals, an international competition that brings together top teams from around the world. Now, the focus turns to fundraising. Traveling to Globals is a huge opportunity, but it comes with significant costs. The team is actively working to raise the money needed to make the trip and represent our community on the world stage. Gabe Lajeunesse is someone who genuinely loves seeing people's plans come to life. It’s what drives him. As a Financial Advisor, he’s passionate about turning possibilities into action by developing growth strategies. Gabe serves as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Montpelier, an appointee to Vermont’s Community Development Board, and as a member of the Board of Directors for the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI).
He earned his Juris Doctor at Georgetown University Law Center and holds the Certified Exit Planning Advisor® designation from the Exit Planning Institute. He’s also shared his expertise as an educator, teaching economic policy, international affairs, and law at Georgetown University, Hamline Law, and Norwich University. His writing has been featured in The International Lawyer, Michigan Law Review First Impressions, and The Huffington Post.

" Peyton Smith only knew military life. He spent his entire 18 years in the Air Force in one way or another. Along the way, he made numerous best friends, ran through neighborhoods in OKC with just a diaper on, was handed off to family and friends when deployments called, went to more schools than most children should have to, persevered when ADHD challenged him, learned to play the saxophone enough to play the national anthem, solo, at my CoC, went back and forth to Massachusetts General Hospital Pediatric Cancer and The Jimmy Fund more times than any of us cared to count. Yet, he still managed to get to high school on the first day of his junior year despite having to wear shorts/extra clothes under his pants so they didn’t fall down because he had lost so much weight. Determination like you read about.
Military kids are just special. They just go out there and do and make the best of it because that is what is asked of them at every turn. Resiliency is in their DNA, often showing the military mom, dad, or both truly “what right looks like.” Again, they are so special and we do not celebrate them enough which is why with one week to go to the 5th Annual AirPeyton Memorial Walk/Run, Dani Hall Smith, Keegan, and I are celebrating Peyton.
I would like you all to join us in celebrating our military children by signing up for the 5th Annual AirPeyton memorial event this Sunday. It is both virtual and in person. Chris Perrault, an undefeated professional welterweight fighter, continues to make waves in the mixed martial arts community. Recently crowned the Professional DBFP Welterweight Champion in Barre, Vermont, Perrault is set to face off against the #2 ranked welterweight, John Piersma, on June 13 for the Combat FC welterweight title, streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.
Perrault's impressive journey in combat sports began with a distinguished wrestling career. A nationally ranked collegiate wrestler at Plymouth State, he earned accolades as a state champion for St. Johnsbury and secured the New England wrestling title. With an undefeated record of 7 amateur fights, Perrault showcased his versatility by winning titles in two different weight classes.
In a significant milestone, Perrault defeated the #1 ranked welterweight to claim the DBFP title, further establishing himself as a formidable force in the sport. His relentless dedication and skill have made him a fighter to watch as he prepares for his upcoming match against Piersma.

Brandi Tracy of Williamstown has devoted her life to changing these statistics and has made it her mission to embrace suicide awareness since losing her 14 year old son Steven two years ago. Two years ago yesterday (5/18), 14 year-old Steven Tracy II died by suicide. Remembered as a happy, fun-loving 8th grader in Williamstown by his community, he'll be remembered SATURDAY, JUNE 4TH with an annual ATV benefit in his honor. Dottie Moffitt is a licensed drug and alcohol counselor in NH. Dottie previously worked providing inpatient therapy for men with substance use disorder. She currently works at Counseling Associates where she does individual therapy with men and women with a SUD, runs relapse prevention groups and MAT groups through Better Life Partners. Dottie became interested in becoming a therapist when she was a teacher at the Woodstock Correction Facility. Her interest in becoming a substance use disorder counselor came when one of her daughterâs classmates died due to an overdose in 2010. She feels this was the catalyst that opened her eyes to what was happening in the area she grew up in and how prevalent opioid use had become. This sparked in her a desire to make a difference. Dottie approaches her work with passion, pride and honor. Dottie is one of the founding members of the Hartford, VT Overdose Awareness Candlelight Vigil that occurs every August 31st. The vigil is important to her because she knows well the pain of loss due to overdose and wants to ensure that those who have passed away are honored yearly at the vigil. Dottie firmly believes their names deserve to be heard and that community education is imperative in order to end the shame and stigma that surrounds addiction to all substances because as long as shame and stigma remain there will always be barriers to seeking help.
