Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we finish our series called Crafting a Culture of Healing & Hope in the Church.
Today's message has been presented by Pastor Darrell Bierman.
A healthy church is one where every person is seen, heard, and valued.
A healthy church has carefully crafted a culture of goodness, dignity, and respect.
However, both history and our current headlines reveal a church that can be a deeply flawed, sinful, and unhealthy institution, marred by acts of injustice, corruption, abuse, misogyny, and oppression. Indeed, far from having “goodness cultures” too many churches today have “toxic” cultures!
So, is this vision of a healthy church even possible or is this vision idealistic and unattainable this side of heaven?
Here at River City Church, we believe that a healthy church is possible, but creating one will takes all of us working together deliberately following a map.
This new series will give us the map and will both equip and challenge us to turn this this dream into a reality. The essence of Christianity isn’t the same as the current angry, abusive, self-righteous expression of Christianity that’s causing so many to walk away.
The vast majority of church leaders and of everyday Christians are - by and large - being faithful to Christ’s call (they are endeavoring to be good-hearted, honest, and faithful).
This Sunday we will look at how to identify issues in the church and how to resolve them.
Café will be open right after the service.
We are located at 215 South Street, Cambridge, Ontario.
God bless you today and we hope to see you soon.

Here at River City Church, we believe that a healthy church is possible, but creating one will takes all of us working together deliberately following a map.
This new series will give us the map and will both equip and challenge us to turn this this dream into a reality.Characteristics of “tov churches,” using the common Hebrew word regularly translated “good”.

The gospel as “the message of tov”; it is “about God’s tov coming to us in Jesus, who is tov, and thus making us into agents of tov”.

Tov churches with a “goodness culture” nurture these seven elements:

  1. empathy and compassion
  2. grace and graciousness
  3. putting people first
  4. truth telling
  5. justice
  6. service
  7. Christlikeness.

Such churches will “resist abuses of power, promote healing, and eradicate the toxic fallout that infects so many Christian organizations”.

Café will be open right after the service.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Pursuing Peace In A Divided World.
Today's message has been presented by Pastor Darrell Bierman.
The two brief paragraphs in the passage we’re going to look at contain two examples or “pictures” of discipleship.
The first is a negative example and the second is a positive example.
So the first one (in Luke 20:45-47) is sort of the anti-disciple and the second one (in Luke 21:1-4) is the model disciple (or the antihero & the hero). Café will be open right after the service.

Today's message has been presented by Pastor Darrell Bierman.
If you were asked what the word disciple means to you, what would you say?
This may be a simple question for some of you, and a perplexing question for others.
I'm sure there would be a wide variety of answers ranging from "Beat's me!" to a very complex theological response.
This Sunday, we will look at Peter's discipleship on his road of Discover-Connect-Grow.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Pursuing Peace In A Divided World.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
Everything God does in this chapter is perplexing.
On multiple occasions and in multiple ways both Elijah (the prophet; a man of God) and the widow of Zarephath (a Gentile) are called to trust in God and in God's provision.
Note: none of these tests are easy!Trusting in God does not mean a lack of suffering.
Instead, both Elijah and this woman are suffering through these tests of trust.
In other words, everyone is challenged to not be afraid to believe in God and to take Him at His Word.
Bottom line: "God perplexes as He provides."Café will be open right after the service.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Pursuing Peace In A Divided World.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
As we grow to become more and more like Jesus (the Prince of Peace), we will experience the blessing and blessedness of peace (and – bonus – we’ll develop this fruit in our lives)! (Gal. 5:22-23)
In Jesus’s best-known sermon, the Sermon on the Mount, he proclaims that “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
They’ll be known as God’s children (Matthew 5:9).
Though Jesus doesn’t explicitly command us to advocate for peace, he proclaims blessings on those who do.
And the blessings are most significant.
Peacemakers will be “called children of God.”
The inference is that those who do not promote peace are not his children, or at least not known by others as his children.
In similar fashion, James writes that peacemakers will plant peace and then reap righteousness (James 3:18).
Again, James doesn’t command that we be peacemakers.
He merely says that a significant reward awaits those who are: righteousness; a great harvest of righteousness.
Weekly concluding blessing: (2 Thess. 3:16) Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.
The Lord be with all of you.
We welcome you to join us for our service.
Café will be open right after the service.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Pursuing Peace In A Divided World.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.

  1. Guard What We Say

The first step to be a peacemaker is to avoid saying things that stir up dissension. James writes that if we can’t control what we say, our religion is worthless (James 1:26).
Paul says that our speech should be gracious (Colossians 4:6) and to block unwholesome speech from our mouths (Ephesians 4:29).
There are many more verses, too (Psalm 141:3; Proverbs 15:1; Psalm 19:14; etc.).
1. Focus on Silence Not Speech – or – Listen more than you talk

Just because we can say something, doesn’t mean we should. As followers of Jesus, we should avoid promoting division whenever possible.
The easiest way to do this is to not add to the fray, but to keep our mouth shut. We should listen first and then speak (James 1:19).
Jesus modeled silence, even when it seemed in his best interest to defend himself (Matthew 26:63).
It’s a noisy world out there.
Many of us are talking, but few are listening.
1. Speak the Truth in Love

If we feel we must speak out about a subject, we should cover our speech in love (Ephesians 4:15).
Too often—especially in the church and religious circles—people decry evil, but they do so in the most unloving way.
We judge, we condemn, and we withhold forgiveness.
Instead, Jesus tells us to do the opposite (Luke 6:37).
The world is watching, and they rightly dismiss us as a result.
1. Forgive as the Lord Forgave You (Colossians 3:12-15) (Matt. 6:14-16).

Psychologically – can you have peace if you’re harbouring a major grudge (vengeance) against someone?
I suspect not.
I’ll rely on notes from my Church Renewal for this topic of forgiveness.
1. Pray! Present your requests to God (the good, the bad, the ugly) (Phil. 4:6-7)

Not only did Paul write his letter to the Philippians from prison, but throughout his ministry, he suffered through beatings, stonings, shipwrecks, and hunger.
When he said that the peace of God was beyond understanding, he knew what he was talking about.
Unlike the happiness of the world that is entirely dependent upon circumstances, the peace of God was always present.
Paul’s sufferings-and God’s faithfulness throughout them-convinced him that his worries were no match for Jesus’s peace that guarded his heart and mind.
In prayer: trust to God the injustice you've suffered.
Support: James 4:1-2; Heb. 4:16; & Matt. 6:10 (LP: “your kingdom come…will be done” is a prayer for peace);
1. Live Yielded (Submit) to the Holy Spirit. As per Romans 8:6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. Very interesting!

Christian transformation happens as we submit ourselves to the Spirit.
When we are led by the Spirit, we experience a life characterized by joy, peace, and other fruits of the Spirit.
But when we are governed by the flesh, we rely upon our own strength, perceptions, and resources.
This not only makes consistent peace impossible to achieve, ultimately leads to destruction.
1. Look to God for Peace (1 Peter 5:6-7) put your confidence in Him – and in His purposes – versus to circumstances, current events, political leaders, etc.).

Parting Blessing for this week (2 Peter 1:2): Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
We welcome you to join us for our service.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Pursuing Peace In A Divided World.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
1. Be at peace with yourself (& or ensure peace rules in your own heart).

Our inability to live peaceably with others is often an indication that we are at war with ourselves.
How are we to calm wars and tempers or reconcile with another if we have battles raging in our own hearts?
If you were to take an inventory of those thoughts, you might be surprised to learn how many of them count as negative self-talk.
1. Be we-centered rather than me-centered

The peacemaker must seek to balance the desire to realize his or her rights with the need to be responsible to others.
Rights are all about me.
Responsibilities are all about others.
They are both valuable and needed, like two wings of a dove.
If we focus too heavily on one over the other, we’re unable to fly.
Finding that balance is hard but can be done with practice and awareness.
Another way to say this:
1. Surrender your ego

The ego’s need to be front and center is arguably the greatest obstacle to lasting peace.
When the ego takes the lead, we’re often driven by our fear-based need to protect our own.
But the peacemaker understands that we must reach beyond ourselves in order to experience the peace we crave.
We must be willing to participate in a shared vision with others, even if it puts them in the spotlight.
This is not easy to do and requires daily surrender to the greater good.
1. Play the long game

It’s so easy to get caught up in the moment that we can’t see the forest for the trees.
We often place more value on what’s happening now than the future.
This is understandable.
But if we can play the long game, we can give up the need to dominate or be right or win every argument.
Work instead on the goal of transforming minds and hearts through steady and consistent right action.
Over time the fruits of such actions will begin to exert positive influence on others without the need to dominate verbally.
1. Be genuinely interested in other people.

Become interested in other people’s ideas, even ideas you strongly disagree with.
Hone your listening skills.
Become curious about why the person thinks the way they do.
Understand their positions so well that you can state it back to them concisely and convincingly.
When you do this, people will be shocked by how well you listened and by your willingness to hear them out and make them feel heard.
Because the truth is that you don’t have to be in agreement with people for them to feel heard.
1. Remain curious.

Resist making up your mind too quickly about how you think or feel about an experience, person, or idea.
See how long you can do this until you can’t stand it anymore.
The discomfort will mean that you are in the right place.
Be delighted by the surprises.
1. Don’t be afraid of conflict.

The truth is that conflict itself is not an obstacle to peace, it’s the wrong kind of conflict that can lead to damaged relationships.
The right kind of conflict is not confrontational. It simply means standing in one’s own integrity.
If you want to be a peacemaker, you must be willing to state your position clearly and unambiguously, but also should be willing to allow others to do the same.
If they are willing to engage in respectful dialogue, differences can be talked out, even argued out, as long as the focus remains on the issues and does not turn to personal attacks.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Pursuing Peace In A Divided World.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
Titus 3:1-11 provides a powerful picture of society – living ‘naturally’ (and of the temptation we face – to capitulate or to fall back into old bad habits).

| Old (worldly/natural) Way | New (Christian/Disciple) Way | | Critical of rulers and authorities (disrespectful in our attitudes, actions and speech). | Subject to (respectful and supportive of) rulers and authorities. (v1) | | Disobedient – so long as we don’t get caught, it’s ok. | Obedient. (v1) | | Only responsible for myself (doing no harm). | Responsible to others (actively doing good). (v1) | | | | | Slander anyone I choose (esp. s/o who hurts me) | Slander no one. (v2) | | A peace disrupter. | A peacemaker. (v2) | | Inconsiderate. | Considerate. (v2) | | Sometimes gentle (if you catch me on a good day), and only gentle with some people. | Always gentle. (v2), and gentle toward everyone! | | | | | Enslaved by passions & pleasures (the result is we were foolish, disobedient, deceived, and enslaved). | Master of our passions & pleasures (through partnering with the Holy Spirit) (the result is wise living, obedient living, undeceived/enlightened, and free – we don’t have to live as instinctual beings [as other ‘animals’]). (v3) | | Lived in malice and envy toward others. | Live in benevolence and generosity toward others | | Hating others (and being hated by others). | Loving others (and being loved by others). | | | | | | So what accounts for this new way (this marked difference)?v.4. The kindness and love of God our Savior appeared. v.5-6. He saved us (not because we were deserving – but in his mercy). He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal of the Holy Spirit (v.6. whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior) | | | | | | WHY?v.7. So that justified by his grace we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.NEVERTHELESS… | | | v.8. [know this… trust that this is God’s Truth]:We who have trusted in God must be careful to devote ourselves to doing what is good à excellent à and profitable FOR EVERYONE.Which is why this series is SO important!! | | | | | | v.9. IN ORDER TO DO THIS:You must (1) avoid foolish controversies, arguments & quarrels about the law/Bible (don’t get involved in foolish & unprofitable arguments [a repeat of 2 Tim. 2:14].[e.g., replacement, cov’t/organic, dispensation]This does not mean we should refuse to study, discuss and examine different interpretations of difficult Bible passages. Paul’s warning is against petty quarrels, not honest discussions that lead to wisdom. As foolish arguments develop it’s best to turn the discussion back to a helpful direction – or politely excuse yourself.…because these are unprofitable and useless. & | | | You must (2) warn divisive persons (and hold them accountable: if they don’t heed your warnings, then, for the sake of the believing community – you must expel them. (v10-11) |

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Pursuing Peace In A Divided World.
Today's message has been presented by Melissa Burmaster.
The absence of conflict is no sign of peace.
In our world that seeks for "world peace" there has to, just has to be, some missing element.
This coming Sunday we will explore the challenges of peacemaking through the life of David.
His days as a soldier and then King of Israel put a hunger in his heart for the community of God's people to be at peace.
Unfortunately, during his leadership of Israel and his own home life there were only short term gains in the way of peace.
There was a missing essential that only the gospel can bring.
Hear more about the pursuit of peace in a divided world in this week's talk "Where the Oil Flows"

If everything is going well and you’re able to maintain a certain standard of living, you can enjoy a fragile peace.
The peace that Jesus offers isn’t circumstantial and external.
It springs up within those who follow Him and it’s accessible no matter what life throws at you.
(ILL: Mohamed Al-Fayed: the billionaire former owner of Harrods department store, whose son Dodi was killed in a car crash alongside Diana.
Mohamed Al-Fayed spent millions (and for decades was convinced the Royal family offed Diana and his son).
In Isaiah’s prophecy about the coming Messiah, he says: “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
In a world filled with war and violence, it’s difficult to see how Jesus could be the all-powerful God who acts in human history and be the embodiment of peace.
But physical safety and political harmony don’t necessarily reflect the kind of peace He’s talking about (John 14:27).
The Hebrew word for “peace,” shalom, is often used in reference to an appearance of calm and tranquility of individuals, groups, and nations.
The Greek word eirene means “unity and accord”; Paul uses eirene to describe the objective of the New Testament church.
But the deeper, more foundational meaning of peace is “the spiritual harmony brought about by an individual’s restoration with God.”
In our sinful state, we are enemies with God (Romans 5:10).
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Because of Christ’s sacrifice, we are restored to a relationship of peace with God (Romans 5:1).
This is the deep, abiding peace between our hearts and our Creator that cannot be taken away (John 10:27–28) and the ultimate fulfillment of Christ’s work as “Prince of Peace.”
Do you know and are you trusting Jesus, the Prince of Peace?
This is our place to start.
Nothing else in this series will make sense, ‘til you’ve made this decision for yourself.
We welcome you to join us for our service.
Café will be open right after the service.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Pursuing Peace In A Divided World.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
I’ll make the case that we ought to pursue peace, and I’ll make this case by sharing the big 3 New Testament injunction-passages concerning peace, which are:
(Romans 12:17-18) Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. (12:17-18)
(Romans 14:19) Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
(Hebrews 12:14) Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

Plus, the 1-big Old Testament injunction-passage on peace (Psalm 34:14) seek peace & purse it.
It’s not very feasible that we can be at peace with everyone all the time.
In fact, Jesus suggests that we’re doing something wrong if everyone speaks well of us (see Luke 6:26).
But when there is conflict with others, it shouldn’t be because we’re holding grudges and refusing to reconcile.
If we’re obedient to God, there will be friction with others.
But as much as it’s up to us, peace with others is a priority.
So HOW do we make peace a priority?
Where should our focus be?

We welcome you to join us for our service.
Café will be open right after the service.
We are located at 215 South Street, Cambridge, Ontario.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
It’s a fact: we have been through A LOT this past year.
Beyond that, it is a challenging time to be a church and to be a Christian in Canada. Indeed (from 2 Cor. 4:8-9):
Like Paul, we are “hard pressed” → The church (and Christians) were a minority in this country in 2012 (11% drop), we’re even more so a minority today (another 11% drop)… but we are “not crushed”!
Like Paul, we are “perplexed” → At the very time when Christians need unity and when churches need health and positive witness we are embroiled in division and conflict… but we are not “in despair.”
Like Paul, we are “persecuted” → My mentor Pastor Ray Deurksen recently shared that he believes Christ’s church is more persecuted in this country than at any period in our history (and he expects this to go up) (also, consider the persecution of God’s Word in the Bible on TikTok, etc.)… but we are “not abandoned.”
Like Paul, we are “struck down” → The great church-exodus over pandemic (in most churches somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 of regular church going Christians stopped attending church altogether during pandemic – and have not returned (to either in-person or on-line)… but we are “not destroyed.” People of God: do not let fatigue, pain, criticism (etc.) force you off the job (or to give up on your faith).
Rather: renew your commitment to Christ Jesus! …knowing that your very weakness allows the resurrection power of Christ Jesus to strengthen you moment-by-moment.
AND, the darkness of our times means your Christ-light has its greatest opportunity to be seen and noticed!

We welcome you to join us on January 7th as the service time is 1pm.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Let It Be.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
The Beatles’ song, Revolution, has ongoing appeal because it expresses our universal desire for real and radical change in this world.
It’s natural to long for dramatic change – especially at Christmastime.
We want to get the person we love the right present – for a change.
We want our family get together to be totally free of conflict – for a change.
We want to spend lots of quality time with our kids – for a change.
And, who doesn’t look forward to a change from the hum-drum of everyday life?
We don’t think of Jesus’ birth as being revolutionary, but it was!
From that point on, things would never be the same again.
In particular, things between people and God would never be the same again.
Now, any and every person who accepts Jesus as the Forgiver of their sins and as the Leader of their life – receives a restored relationship with God!
Praise God!
We welcome you to join us December 24th and December 31st as the service time will be 10:30am.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Let It Be.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
One thing that tends to rob us of Christmas joy in the present (especially for adults) are
memories of Christmases past. Looking back, things seemed bigger and better – easier and
more peaceful. And maybe there’s a sense in which the past was some of these things.
Nevertheless, one of our survival techniques is to forget (or to block out) painful or
uncomfortable memories – and so, by-and-large, only the best and most positive memories
remain. Ah, hindsight is 20/20!
In truth though, your yesterdays (like mine) were mostly a mix of good and bad (just as this
Christmas will be as well).
Your surest bet at experiencing true and profound joy, this Christmas and beyond, is to pin your
hopes on this truth: God came down for us in Jesus Christ, and Jesus is the One who will take us
to Himself to live forever when the time comes. Therefore, do not delay put your trust in Jesus
today!

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Let It Be.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
Loneliness was at record levels prior to the Pandemic, now loneliness is an epidemic itself!
Really, this relates to the irony of Christmas: there isn’t another time of the year when we feel
more acutely our need for family, for friends and for togetherness. And yet, it’s the time of the
year when many of us are reminded of missing or deceased family, old or faraway friends –
whom we won’t be seeing, and the relational void that most of us live with.
Well, it’s one thing for each of us to resist the strong temptation to isolate ourselves today, it’s
something else entirely for us to go out of our way to reach out and touch the lonely individuals
around us. For inspiration in this regard, we can – and should – look to Jesus (see Matthew
9:36).

We welcome you to join us for in-person service every Sunday @ 1 PM.

Welcome to River City Church Online. Thank you for joining us today as we start our new series called Let It Be.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
When you look at the pattern of humanity from the earliest recorded history of humankind –
right up until this present time, the same pattern repeats itself over and over again. People
start afresh…they experience freedom…they use their freedom to harm and take advantage of
weaker individuals (in other words, evil escalates), until finally, there’s societal breakdown, war
or rebellion, followed by a short time of peace and a season of rebuilding.
The Beatles not only recognized this pattern, they wrote about it in their song, “Across the
Universe,” with its repeated chorus of “Nothing’s Gonna Change My World.” In other words,
Que Sera Sera, whatever will be, will be.
But something does change our world. More accurately, Someone. God steps in, in
unprecedented fashion, in “Immanuel: God with us”! Jesus came as the final and authoritative
answer of a God who loves us and who is offering us mercy and life.
We think nothing’s gonna change our world; wrong, because God did! Come and find out, not
only how, but about the difference this makes.

This week Darrell has a question sheet to fill out HERE.Likewise, every disciple/follower of Jesus who intends to develop a relationship with Him needs a structure; what’s classically called “a rule of life.”
The focus is not the structure; indeed, the structure exists not unto itself, but to facilitate something else [in the case of the grape vine, growth of many grapes – so we can make much fine wine!).
I’ll highlight how a structure helped believers (including Jesus Himself) in times past navigate (survive & even thrive in the most difficult circumstances), and I’ll point ahead to how – in the final 2 weeks of this series,
I’ll give them 4 elements to consider incorporating into their structure/trellis/daily-life so that their relationship with Jesus will continue to thrive and grow over the long term.We welcome you to join us for in person service every Sunday @ 1 PM.

Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
This week Darrell has a question sheet to fill out HERE.Fact: we need to reacquaint ourselves with our limitations (which we don’t like to consider or even admit).
Yes, our possibilities are practically endless; we are, after all, made “in the image of God.”
Still, we’re also made “from the dust.”
That we’re made in the image of God means we’re rife with potential (etc.).
That we’re made from the dust means that we have limitations.
Accepting limitations – while painful – can also be freeing (and, it is being honest with ourselves).
How so?
Because it means we don’t have to be God (we can get rid of our Messiah-complexes)!
AND, Jesus, the Messiah, invites us to enter his rest!

What’s The Greatest Challenge to Your Spiritual Life?
The answer: Time.
People today are just too busy to live emotionally healthy & spiritually rich and vibrant lives.
This is taking a toll on our relationships with God & others.
We need a “slowdown spirituality.” I’ll whet appetites by highlighting the problem, and I’ll share that in this series we’ll get solutions!

Welcome to River City Church Online.
Thank you for joining us today as we continue with our series called Soul Care.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
We all long for more - more life, richer community, deeper meaning. Many of us are stitching together something we call life. But the maps we’ve been handed, the way of life we’ve received, isn’t leading us to where we long to go. Meanwhile, the pace of life and of change continue to increase at a rate that far exceeds our ability to recalibrate. As a result, many of us have lost our connection with God and we’re beginning to lose our connection with one another. This is reeking havoc on our souls and even our families! Is there hope for something more?
There is, but this will require something of us. See, this life that is truly life is not the result of specific decisions we make, but about patterns we establish. On Sunday, September 17, River City Church launches a series that will help you discover these patterns. It’s often quoted that “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again – and expecting different results.” But that’s exactly what we do. This series is your opportunity to do something different!

Welcome to River City Church Online.
Thank you for joining us today as we begin our new series called Soul Care.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor of Spiritual Growth Juliet Hurst.
As we head into the fall, we are faced with many choices.
How many things can we fit into our schedule..... busier seems to be better, right?
In our FOMO (fear of missing out) culture, we want to do it all, experience it all, and give our kids every opportunity!
Does this fast-paced lifestyle come with a cost?

This Sunday we will look at one of Jesus's most challenging messages to His disciples.
His words about The Narrow and Wide Gates which is found in Matthew 7:13-23.
In our busy and hectic lives, how do we find these gates?
Which one do we need to go through?
Are there signs to look out for?
Is this even a big deal?
Join us on Sunday as we unpack these direct and challenging words, and learn what they mean for us and how they can apply to our lives.
Things aren't always as they seem.....
We are a welcoming and diverse community of people who know how challenging life can be but have discovered the benefit and blessing of facing those challenges in the context of intentional relationships and community.
Check us out: you won’t be disappointed!

Welcome to River City Church Online.
Thank you for joining us today as we continue with our new series called Bring Your Best.
Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
This week we will be looking at the 4 Pillars of the Church. These 4 “pillars'' sustained (and grew) the early Church – and they’ve been essential pillars of every thriving church since.
They include: devoting ourselves to:1. God’s Word…the Apostles teaching, 2. Fellowship, 3. The breaking of bread (Lord’s Supper), 4. Prayer.

I especially appreciate how the author of Climbing Prayer Mountain, Tim Spykstra demonstrates the 4 pillars – the one that infuses all the rest with meaning (and Holy Spirit engagement/empowerment) is PRAYER.
We need to be a praying church!
The idea for this came from Climbing Prayer Mountain: Day 32.

Today's message has been presented by our Pastor Darrell Bierman.
Today’s sermon gives listeners a clearer picture of the Ascended/Reigning Jesus – such that they’ll live more confidently and courageously (also to help them see how Jesus is ‘present’ and ‘active’ in them and in their lives right now). Climbing Prayer Mountain: Day 38

Revelation chapter 1 (this text) presents Jesus as Prophet / Priest / King. Beyond that, here are 11 snapshots of Jesus and his roles in our lives and in this world:

i. Son of Man: He knows me

ii. Robe/royal… king

iii. Sash (priest)

iv. Eyes… (wisdom / holiness)

v. Feet bronze furnace (brilliance)

vi. Voice of rushing waters (prophetic / amazing grace tumbling)

vii. Hand hold…mouth (authority).

viii. Sun in brilliance face (glory)

ix. Hold keys of hades (judge / authority)

x. Hand on shoulder (fear not / access / grace vs condemnation)

xi. Sword (defender).

We welcome you to join us for in person service every Sunday @ 1 PM.

If there has ever been a time that we have needed to pray and pray a lot, hasn't it been this year? We're in the third wave and lockdown due to COVID-19. The variant is taking off faster and is more dangerous than the original strain of the virus. In addition to that, mass social and racial issues have been running in the background for a year. Does God care? Is it even worth talking to him about our world and our problems?

Maybe you don't believe much in prayer or practice it often. The Bible is clear that God is very concerned about us and all that is going on in our lives. In Jesus' own words, he shares that the number of hairs on our heads are numbered and that every tear we've shed is kept in a bottle. He likely takes our words to him seriously too! This new series will help you re-think your communication patterns with God. Join us for few weeks of finding more purpose and power with prayer.

Easter tells a story about freedom that can speak so relevantly in these times. It can speak to a freedom that some of us might not know very well. A freedom that we just aren't living daily as we could. A freedom that some of us might need to be reacquainted with in times where we have been pushed to our limits of patience and endurance.
