Matthew 2:2
Yes, Jesus modeled what a servant leader should look like. Yes, Jesus did not claim what He could have claimed when He came the first time. However, the next time He comes, there is no doubt Who is in charge and what role Jesus will forever claim. Kneel and surrender to Him today!

All authority and rule are on His shoulders. Jesus’ birth was history, but His rule came from eternity. This Deity in diapers will one day forever rule His kingdom.

We’re honored to welcome Caleb and Christina Suko, missionaries serving in Odesa, Ukraine. In the midst of an active war zone, they are providing aid, sharing the gospel with thousands of refugees, and equipping church leaders in Biblical evangelism.

Confidence is everything! It lifts our head, our spirit, and our hopes. Confidence is attractive and contagious. Confidence is addictive and life-giving. John shows us how to be confident in our faith in Jesus.

Don’t believe everything you see or read. We need to filter everything through the prism of God’s truth to determine what is accurate or inaccurate. Thankfully, we have our own Truth Sensor in the Holy Spirit!

Taking our eyes off Jesus will cause us to drift away spiritually, every time. Today, we are hearing stories after stories of Christians who have deconstructed their faith. But were their eyes focused on Christ of focused on people, programs, church, or problems in life. Satan will use anything to tempt us to walk away from Jesus.

lead you astray.” 1 John 2:26
Our identity begins and ends with Jesus. Growing in Him will help us purify ourselves to make Jesus proud. Satan will use every trick in the book to lead us astray.

The Pharisees were not engaging in anything illegal or immoral within their leadership roles; instead, they were characterized by legalism, condemnation, and control. We'll cover how to respond in a healthy way to church hurt.

About this week's message: We can be so arrogant and condescending towards certain groups of people. The mercy and grace of Jesus is extended to you as well as to “those” people you might view beneath you. I love the fact that Jesus chose Matthew, one of “those” tax collectors, who would have a profound global effect for the gospel, even today!

About this week's message: We don’t know the backstory of how this man became paralyzed. Jesus, however, saw beyond his physical condition and wanted to heal him of his real need: the forgiveness of his sins. This declaration revealed a different kind of paralyzation within the audience: pharisaical paralyzation.

About this week's message: We live in a county and a culture where the darkness is growing. Demonic forces are real and the battle between spiritual forces is alive and well today. This darkness brings about lots of pain and scars that many are unaware of its source. The only answer is Jesus! Key Phrase: “I know who you are - the Holy One of God!” Mark 1:24
About the series: Peter’s death was imminent, and he knew his time was short. This reality prompted Peter to write again but this time his tone was more intense. He wanted the early church to know: 1. God loves this world and is determined to rescue it! And 2. God will confront and deal with evil for the sake of a new forever future!
About this week's message: The many false teachers in Peters’ day lived with their lives of sin and immorality with little to no consequences. Therefore, they mocked that judgment was not coming. Peter gives evidence that God ultimately will bring divine justice based upon how God has brought it in the past.

About this week's message: One of the most unique aspects of the game of baseball, it’s the only sport where the coaches wear a uniform (with a #) just like every player. This is symbolic of life of both parent and children. As long as a parent still has breath, they are playing the game of life just like their kids are. Every parent has the opportunity to live and build a lasting legacy that will far outlive their days on planet earth.

About this week's message: Perspectives about life and views of the world are primarily formed at home. It is parents and grandparents whom God has designed to primarily disciple children. Most parents do not have a biblical, God-honoring game plan to disciple/teach/coach their children. Thankfully, there are great resources available today!

About this week's message: Umpires are a needed and necessary part of the game. You can have the most beautifully marked chalk lines on the field, but they are meaningless if they are not enforced. The best umpires have a few distinct attributes that cause them to stand out among their peers and be highly respected by the players. These attributes make the best parents too!

If the foul lines are not chalked, the game will result in arguments, confusion, and chaos. God knows children need a healthy field with clearly marked boundary lines.

Hooks such as, “You need this!” “Everyone has this!” “Don’t think, just buy it!” Too many people are living in financial bondage as a result. We put so much weight on people’s intentions these days. If politicians make a poor decision, they want their good intentions to trump their poor decision. In life, it doesn’t work this way. Direction – not intentions – determines our destination.

About this week's message: Sadly, not every child is loved by their parents. These children grow up in a continual search for love they were designed to receive. In Christ, we are loved by God. Sadly, many people know this intellectually but not practically. They don’t REALLY believe that they are loved… by… God!

About this week's message: Storms in the Mediterranean often show up when people least expect it. These storms can be fierce, scary, and deadly. However, peace is not the absence of a storm. Peace is found in the presence of Jesus.

About the series: Of all ways that God chose to redeem mankind, He chose to send His Son, Jesus, to be the Incarnate God: God in the Flesh. This isn’t just a part of the Christmas story. For believers, He’s with us all throughout our life!
About this week's message: God is with us when we choose to travel into the wilderness. The wilderness is a metaphor for wandering, loneliness, or going off course. This can happen to anyone for a variety of reasons. But God is with us nonetheless, gently calling us back.

This Week: Words mean things. The meaning of Lord is: 1. a title of honor expressive of respect and reverence; 2. To whom a person belongs about which he has power of deciding; 3. one who has control. Given the weight behind its meaning, to call Jesus your Lord and then not obey what he says is a slap to his face. Ouch!

This Week:
Someone will little-to-no self-control is still a child. Self-control is a sign of maturity. A lack of self-control is embarrassing while one with self-control is respectable. This fruit of the Spirit is greatly needed today. Following the Spirit of God will help us make wise choices with the emotions we feel and the words that we want to share.

We all face frustrating life events such as car problems, unexpected bills, unmet expectations, or an end of a relationship. When we get squeezed by life, something WILL come out of us. It will either sweet or it will be sour. What comes out depends on how close we are walking with the Spirit.
• This Week: A wild horse is a danger to himself and anyone near him. However, a horse that has be broken and trained is another story all together. This horse you can trust with a child on its back and a bridle in its mouth. Gentleness means strength under control. Jesus modeled gentleness when he was beaten and falsely accused. He chose to remain silent – the epitome of gentleness. Anyone can go “off” on someone else when they are angry. It takes incredible power to remain calm (gentle) when someone is going “off” on you. This fruit of the Spirit is something many will admire and respect today.

• This Week: Once again, this fruit of the Spirit is rare today because our culture is nowhere near walking with God. Relationships, marriages, and commitments are broken easily whenever the situation gets difficult or inconvenient. Being faithful to your word used to mean a great deal. Walking in step with the Spirit will cause us to be the rare person today: someone who is faithful; one who others can count on.

•This Week: Kindness is how one reacts and interacts with others. Goodness is something we do. It is action oriented. It’s doing something that is good and beneficial for someone. It is blessing someone because God has blessed you. When one is in step with the Spirit, we will have eyes to see the good He wants us to do.

• This Week: It sure seems like our culture has become unkinder every week. Comments on social media are rude and harsh. Drivers won’t let other cars merge, even if their blinker is on. Smiles are rare while curse words are everywhere. However, one of the sweetest fruits of the spirit is kindness such as: talking kindly, greeting kindly, disagreeing kindly, driving kindly, etc. Sadly, studies show the first thing to disappear in a marriage is simple kindness. This won’t happen when a follower is in step with the Spirit.

• This Week: Peace is in rare supply these days. All around us, there is turmoil, strife, and conflict. Peace is priceless. Peace helps us sleep at night. Peace gives us hope. Peace is the result of walking in the Spirit – even if it is difficult and unpopular.

• This Week: We all love to be HAPPY. But happiness is fleeting because it’s situational. Joy, however, is better than happy because joy is a choice. The difficult situation may not be enjoyable, but joy will carry us through the situation. Joy only comes from walking with the Spirit. Joy is a deep satisfaction in our souls. It’s connected to a peace beyond understanding. Joy reminds us that God is in control and that He loves us.

• This Week: This “triumphant” arrival to Jerusalem brought Jesus to tears. These were tears of sorrow because the people had completely missed His purpose for coming; not as a political messiah, but a spiritual one. Jesus prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem which would be the end of temple and their entire sacrificial system of Judaism. Daniel prophesied the arrival of the Messiah prior to the destruction of the temple which would happen in 70 AD. Sadly, most Jews missed their Messiah who was already here.

• This Series: The questions God asks are questions He already knows the answers to. But these divine questions reveal the heart and nature of not only God, but of us as well.
• This Week: One of Satan’s popular tools to keep people from God’s blessings are distractions. Sometimes the distractions are sinful distractions. Other times they are distractions that are good in nature. Regardless, distraction can a cause us to drop the Lord down our priority list which in return will result in us losing God’s blessings in our life.
Key Phrase: “Give careful thought to your ways.” Haggai 1:5

• This Week: The #1 question we ask God is WHY? We often ask that question out of anger and/or disillusionment. Job and his friends cannot understand why Job has lost everything important in his life. They spend some time guessing for reasons. Finally, God answers “out of the storm” to Job. God’s answer comes in the form of a question. In fact, many questions that are illustrating to Job that God is God and he is not. We often need this reminder.

• This Week: It is all too easy for human beings to get angry at a holy, all-powerful, sovereign God. We somehow feel justified when we are angry at God when something doesn’t go our way. God doesn’t have to justify His compassion on those who we despise or even hate.

• This Week: God has called His followers to serve the Lord. People often associate the call of God to only pastors and missionaries. Not true. Who will be God’s representative at your job, school, and neighborhood? Who will serve in areas in our church that need someone to serve? Most people think, “Somebody will. Anybody can.” But the truth is, nobody often does. What is God calling you to do to advance His kingdom?

• This Week: You would think that coming to God would be a decision God would appreciate. Think again. Sometimes running to God and asking him for something we know is outside the will of God will be a short conversation with the Lord.

• This Week: The first recorded question in scripture was asked by God. It was a question He already knew the answer to. God knows where each of us are. There is no place we can go to escape His presence and His ever watchful (and caring) eyes.

• This Week: Whoever you are and whatever you do, it comes with a title. Titles indicates our task. The BC gives the coming Messiah numerous titles for numerous tasks he would fulfill in the AD. As a result, His titles set up our testimony.

A legalist looks down on people who draw lines where they draw lines. Paul addresses disputes in the church where good people can have different positions with disputable issues. Paul's warning then is still a relevant warning today: Don't destroy the work of God for the sake of your opinion. During COVID, many churches split over the disputable issue of wearing masks. Sad but true. Let's not win the argument but lose our testimony in the process.

• This Week: The Holy Spirit gives different spiritual gifts to different believers. We do not decide what gifts we have; thus we should not think we are better than someone else. The church body is gifted and when the body is working together, it is a beautiful thing to behold.

• This Week: Different believers draw boundaries in different places than other believers. If it is not in direct conflict with scripture, it is fine. While we need to be sensitive to other preferences, we are still free since we don’t live under the law. Preferences in churches has caused more people to leave a church than sin issues.

• This Week: There are no perfect churches! However, there are too many messed-up churches. The Corinth church needed to address some serious problems of immorality and immaturity. A messed-up church continually covers up sin.

Increasingly, believers are facing opposition, ridicule, and rejection for their faith. Therefore, it is all too easy to quietly trade Jesus for safety. Every one of the disciples did this in the face of arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. Peter did this again when he was accused of being a disciple of Jesus. When facing opposition, what will trigger the Judas in you?

Misunderstanding this verse can deceive, disappoint, and disillusion people against God when their life, marriage, and/or health doesn’t improve. • This Week: Fear and anxiety are often believed to be synonyms with similar symptoms. But they are not. Fear and anxiety are like cousins; they are different although closely related. Anxiety is an unfocused, objectless, future-oriented fear. Anxiety is an irrational, “what if” kind of worry. Anxiety is our body’s natural response to stress. It's a feeling of worry or apprehension about what is about to come, or what may never come. Thankfully, scripture gives us the antidote to our anxiety!

• This Week: Starvation is being deprived of unconditional love and emotional nourishment. It’s growing up where love, acceptance, worth, and security wasn’t given freely or unconditionally. It’s also where there is malnourishment with appropriate physical touch. As a result, one will be on a desperate search for what is lacking, often with foolish appetites; where what is bitter will taste sweet. Thankfully, God can provide us the proper nourishment we need to live a fulfilling life of deep satisfaction.

• This Week: Enabling is often disguised as “love” but is in fact, not loving at all. Enabling is even disguised as “helping” but is in fact, hurting. When we enable, our irresponsibility will eventually become someone else’s responsibility. Enabling allows for lying, laziness, promiscuity, cheating, anger, etc. to foster, grow, and produce a harvest of pain for many people. There is life-giving freedom when the baggage is vanquished.

• This Week: Any wrong attitude, action, belief, behavior, and/or habits that we inherited from our parents. The reason we act the way we do is that these attitudes and actions were modeled and repeated over and over for us growing up. These sinful attitudes and behavior tend to be passed from one generation to the next, and the next, and the next. Examples of generational sin: worry, anger, unfaithfulness, financial irresponsibility, alcoholism, greed, laziness, control, etc. Thankfully, Jesus Christ can break any cycle of generational sin.

• This Week: Being offended is inevitable but living offended is a choice. Your life is too short, your influence too great, to be offended by something too small.

• This Week: You don’t have to understand the plan to trust God has a purpose. Your disappointment with God might actually be a divine appointment from God.

• This Series: In our Cancel Culture environment today, there is fierce opposition against any stance that is in defiance of what is viewed as acceptable norms in our godless society. However, scripture is clear that followers of Jesus do not live by the standards of this world. (1 Cor. 10:2) In light of this truth, we will look at four hot-button issues from a Biblical perspective and worldview.
• This Week: The problem with Critical Race Theory is not that it isn’t found in the Bible; it’s that it offers a very different explanation of humanity, sin, and redemption than the Bible does. We need to be careful that biblical themes of human dignity, justice, and mercy are confronted without compromising truth.
Key Phrase: “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy.” Micah 6:8
• This Series: In our Cancel Culture environment today, there is fierce opposition against any stance that is in defiance of what is viewed as acceptable norms in our godless society. • This Week: The fallout from sin, in addition to Satan twisting and distorting anything God has created, has led to chaos and confusion throughout all of humanity. It is no surprise there is gender confusion today. Therefore, this delicate issue needs biblical clarity.

• This Series: In our Cancel Culture environment today, there is fierce opposition against any stance that is in defiance of what is viewed as acceptable norms in our godless society. However, scripture is clear that followers of Jesus do not live by the standards of this world. • This Week: Every human being has a bent towards different kinds of sin. Since we were all born into sin doesn’t mean we are to ignore any sin that scripture condemns. Love and acceptance do not equate condoning of any sin or sinful lifestyle. However, a biblical response to love people regardless of their sin is desperately needed today.
Key Phrase: “…godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness.” Romans 1:18

(1 Cor. 10:2) In light of this truth, we will look at four hot-button issues from a Biblical perspective and worldview.
• This Week: God is the author of life. Any legal “rights” that destroy human life is an abomination to God.

• This Week: Infidelity is some kind of stupid. It had better be the best sex ever because it could end up costing you everything you hold dear.

• This Week: Guardrails are a system designed to keep vehicles from straying into dangerous or off-limit areas. They are always placed in the safety zone and never in the danger zone. While we understand their need for vehicles, there are other areas of our life where we need guardrails to protect us from doing major damage in our life. When we ignore God's guardrails, we experience a very painful type of stupid. Barry will give us examples of warning indicators that go off when we are flirting with stupidity. Foolish people don't live carefully nor do they consider the consequences before making dumb decisions. Wise people, however, see the guardrails and make corrections immediately.

• This Series: Have you ever thought to yourself or even said out loud, “What in the world were they thinking?” Sadly, many people play Russian Roulette with their choices all the while hoping the timeless principle of “sowing and reaping” won’t apply to them.
• This Week: You can’t teach a fool much because they are not interested in learning. However, a wise person is humble with a desire to learn.
Key Phrase: “Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7
• This Series: The horizon is a beautiful picture from our Creator. They are symbolic for hopes, dreams, and a future. To see a horizon, we must look up, out, and beyond ourselves. The COVID season has caused many to look down, around, or within themselves. As believers at GracePoint, we need to refocus our attention. We need to recast our VISION and lift our eyes and see the HORIZON God has before us.
• This Week: We finished out this HORIZON CHALLENGE with these two passages of commitment to the Lord. May we see God work at GracePoint more than ever before. May He increase our faith. And more importantly, may God receive all the glory He deserves!

The COVID season has caused many to look down, around, or within themselves. As believers at GracePoint, we need to refocus our attention. We need to recast our VISION and lift our eyes and see the HORIZON God has before us.
• This Week: God is a test-giving God. Why? Because His tests reveal our faith and the condition of our heart. The two primary ways that God tests us is in our trust and obedience. The most practical test of our faith and heart is how we honor God with our finances. It takes faith to give FIRST. It doesn’t take faith to give LAST.
Key Phrase: “Remember how the Lord your God led you…to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart.” Deuteronomy 8:2

• This Week: As sinners, we are hardwired to have an inward focus. It comes natural to us. However, it requires work and a steadfast effort to have an outward focus on other people. Every church has a gravitational pull towards becoming an inward-focused church. This will eventually cause a church to die. This was never God’s design. It is estimated that 75 percent of churchgoers go to church for the first time because someone invited them.

• This Week: Horatio Spafford was a successful lawyer in Chicago. His son died of pneumonia prior to Horatio’s financial disaster in the wake of the great Chicago fire of 1871. Desiring rest for his wife and four daughters, he planned a European trip for his family. Unexpectantly, he needed to remain in Chicago as he sent off his family on the ship with plans to join them shortly. On the way, the ship is struck by another ship, sinks and all four daughters drowned in the accident. His wife, Anna, survives and taken to Wales where she sends her husband a telegram that says, “Saved alone. What shall I do?” When Horatio comes upon the location where his daughters drowned, in spite of his pain, he pens the lyrics to It is well with my soul. Powerful words that tell us how God is with us in the middle of our pain.

• This Week: Irishman Joseph Scriven lost his fiancé in a horrible accident the day before to their wedding. In his grief, he moved to Canada. Later, after he came to know Christ as his Savior, he fell in love with another woman who ended up dying of pneumonia weeks before their wedding. He never loved another woman again. When Joseph received news of his mother’s impending death, he wrote her a poem since he couldn’t afford to travel home. Years later, his friend found his poem and put it to music that would later be known as, What a Friend We Have in Jesus.

• This Week: A Swedish editor and future politician, Carl Boberg, encountered a tremendous storm while walking home one day. As Carl ran for shelter, he was awed as the lightning flashed, thunderclaps shook the air. When the storm relented, he rushed home and wrote a simple poem about this event. This poem was called O Store Gud which means, O Mighty God. This poem became a song that was then translated into German and Russian before finally translated into English. It lived in rather obscurity until a singing cowboy evangelist in India heard it and brought it back to the United States. In 1949 it received a new title. In 1954, George Beverly Shea introduced it to Billy Graham who loved it so much he brought to his New York City Crusade where 93 million people heard it. Elvis Pressley sang it and won a Grammy and Carrie Underwood topped the chart with her rendition of it in 2011. It is now regarded as the #2 all-time favorite hymn in the world - How Great Thou Art.

The desire for fame is dangerous to your life and especially your faith. The continual search for significance is like a hamster chasing carrots.

Not more stuff but more Jesus!

• This Series: Religion has always been man’s attempt to get to God. Jesus came so that, through him, we would have a personal relationship with God. Religion has some good virtues. However, religion can give a false sense of security for what we do for God instead of who we are because of what Christ has done for us.
• This Week: Placing our faith in Jesus has eternal consequences. It also gives us assurance – peace in our soul, that we are in Christ. Many religions teach we can lose our salvation. If true, essentially our salvation would ultimately be determined by us. This leads to insecurity and fear: Did I do enough to “get in”? Am I good enough? This is at the heart of religion.

• This Week: The laundry room symbolizes discipline. Without discipline, we send our kids out into public with stained, smelly, and soiled behavior that makes other people want to avoid them. Discipline is a necessity if a home is to be truly healthy and happy.

This is why parents must have a purpose in their parenting so they can teach, inspire, and pass on to their children what is truly important. Failing to do this at this stage makes the next stage, adolescence, extremely difficult.
