Renton Kirk Learmont was a Trinidadian American who pursued a career as an actor trainer and casting director. He studied acting in Strasberg and Susan Batson in LA and NY and was represented by the Carson Organization. Renton was also a strong swimmer, swing dancer, roller-skater and Brazilian martial artist. Renton unexpectedly passed away at age 34 in 2004. His memorial was held on October 3, 2004, at Riverside Memorial Chapel and was attended by over 500 friends, family, skaters, singers, drummers, Rumi poetry, steel pan player, and Capoeira music.GET A GRIP is the product of a short film entitled: THE END OF THE RUN which was screened at the NY FILM ANTHOLOGY + SAN FRANCISCO FESTIVAL. It was written by Renton, in which he played a NY quad skater whose life spirals out of control because of alcohol and prescription drugs. The film consisted of a diverse cast and varied story lines, addressing issues of racism, nationalism, and sexuality. It was shot in the fall of 2023, Upstate and Manhattan with approximately 30 actors. Fifty cast and crew members came together to help with funding. Marilyn is also Co-Director for the Peer Network of New York (PNNY) and a member of the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls. Marilyn's work uplifts her own experiences but also the experiences of so many women who have had their lives upended by the failed war on drugs and mass incarceration. Since 2018, Marilyn has also worked as a Wellness Advocate with the Relay Initiative, providing peer support services in NYC Emergency Departments for participants after they experience a non-fatal overdose.From it’s inception, punitive drug laws have served as a tool of oppression. Jan France was born in Chicago, to a mother who was an RN, a father who served in World War II, and a grandfather who served in World War I. She has devoted much of her life to GIVING AND SERVICE. In 1983, she conceived the idea for a wagon train in June 1983, organized, was the executive director, strategic planner, coordinator of a 3-year plan, and fund-raiser of $3 million dollars in sponsorships for the Texas Sesquicentennial Wagon Train, which covered 3,228 miles within the state, planned the route to 150 overnight stops in 150 communities to represent the 150 years since Texas’s independence, created the logo, did the marketing, and drove the first wagon herself. Soon she had assistant and wagon masters such as: Walt Garrison, fullback for the Dallas Cowboys, Tom Landry, head coach for the Dallas Cowboys, Gib Lewis, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives and other with Governor Mark White of Texas riding in the front wagon with Jan, sponsored by: Coca-Cola, Wrangler Jeans, Dairy Queen, Texas National Bank Dallas, Texas National Telephone Association, John Deere, American Honda Motor Co, Southwestern Bell Telephone and others.

Later in 2002, in Texas, she taught English to Spanish speaking immigrants at night for free, and founded America's Disaster Relief, which aided various disaster-affected areas across the United States, she kicked into high gear, using her past marketing and organizational skills, bringing into play 5 vans with trailers, 10 drivers, supplies, donations and funds, She was instrumental in relocating 100 families [500 people] into homes completely furnished to victims of Forest Fires, Cedar Rapid, IA floods, Boulder Colorado floods and the locals of Western Colorado.

With the left-over donations, in 2006 she bought a 750 square foot thrift shop for $1,000.00 in Montrose, Colorado, which expanded to 10,000 square feet, where 100% of the profits went to disaster relief and in 2008 she built a food truck on a 16 ft flat-bed trailer, selling tamales and other items with partner GUMER, volunteering 12 months a year for 7 years, with 100% of the net profits going to American Disaster Relief, from serving areas from Colorado to Florida, Alabama, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Missouri, Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, in August 29 2005, where she brought back to her home, now living in Colorado, people who had nothing but the clothes on their backs. She also served at Hurricane Sandy, NY in 2012 when I met her while I was volunteering at Midland Beach, Staten Island, one of the worst hit areas, and stayed in touch since.

In 2015 they progressed to a Mobile Kitchen where they no longer needed a commissary where they had to pay to prepare the Tamales and foods, or sleep in truck seats or motel rooms, they had a shower, bed and restroom and kitchen, all with the mission of aid to others. However, in the same year Jan was diagnosed with kidney disease at the age of 70. Despite that diagnosis, she continued to volunteer and fundraise for several years, until last year 2023, deciding to sell the Mobile Kitchen and cancel all events, still volunteering and fundraising remotely. Her tireless efforts over the years have been an inspiration to many.

She attended in her early days, New York Institute of Interior Design – New York, New York, Barbizon School of Modeling before heading off to Saint Petersburg College / University of South Florida. She became a Showroom & Runway model in New York City and Florida and a Ford Agency Model……

She was an Equestrian: riding, driving a team, riding instructor, endurance, cross country. Dr. John is board-certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Physicians and is also a certified physician in his home country with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.After working in New York for a few years, Dr. John decided to return to Trinidad in 1994 to contribute to his homeland. During his earlier years in Trinidad, his involvement as a faculty member in the Lutheran US-Caribbean HIV/AIDS Twinning Initiative, contributed to the success of this program. Dr. John volunteered as a medical professional at the Cyril Ross Nursery, a home and treatment center for HIV-infected babies who were neglected and abandoned by their parents. His focus at the Nursery was pain control and other comfort care, and he worked alongside fellow Trinidadian and Ms. Universe of 1998, Wendy Fitzwilliam, to bring anti-retroviral treatment to the children. Cathy is a Health Psychologist, IRB Regulatory Specialist and Research Program Manager, working for decades within the neurological complications of HIV Disease, Post-Stroke Spasticity, and other research initiatives involving pain and behavior, with an interest in human behavior and how to address wellness and maintain health throughout their lifespan. Her areas of research interest involve stress, anxiety, pain management, and aging within the context of chronic illness such as HIV disease. Dr. George has a special interest in language, technology (use of virtual reality and apps) and how language can influence behavior. Jim attended Spencerian College in Milwaukee, WI, for Sales & Marketing and was a graduate of Arrowhead High School in Hartland, WI. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. Jim was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin to George and Frances Voelzke. Jim and his brother George “Joe” Voelzke grew up in Merton, WI, where his parents ran V’s Tasty Town restaurant. He started working as a sales trainee in the tannery in Milwaukee. He held VP of Sales positions for Maydiang Group and RSI/Sigma, Sales and Marketing agency for Sadesa of Argentina, Annonay of France and Sanbinos of Brazil. Jim was a lifetime member of the Two Ten Footwear Foundation, certified Dale Carnegie sales practitioner, and a member of the Newtown Rotary Club. He regularly donated to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission.One associate said “Jim's unwavering support and focus for one of our initiatives helped deliver a new business level for the company. Communication is a strong suit for Jim that served to make this initiative a successful one.”His daughter Erin said “He was easy going, fun-loving, sentimental, and charismatic. He had a great head of hair, always had a story to tell, was always trying new things, loved anything to do with the water, loved animals, even those cats that I talked him into. He was in China when we first connected and we hit it off from the first date, when he consented to go dancing with me at one of my favorite clubs. We danced all night. He could dance well. He was a gentleman, with a great head of hair, who wore his heart on his sleeve fearlessly, always caring, always smiling or laughing. He introduced me to his large circle of friends, and loved sailing/boating, being on the water. Throughout the years we remained fast friends, frequently checking in on each other. When I worked on a contract in Brickell, Miami and needed an expert to work on a tracking footwear brand, Jim was the one I turned to, traveling back and forth to China.Jim was to be my guest on last season’s podcast. He never told me how serious his health issue was at the beginning of this year, except to say, I’ve got cancer but I’m handling it. Then I got the notice shortly after • My dear friend James P. Voelzke, age 75, passed away this May 23. JAN FRANCE: who was born in Chicago, to a mother who was an RN, a father who served in World War II, and a grandfather who served in World War I, has devoted much of her life to helping others. In 1976, Jan rode the 1400 mile Bi-Centennial, Valley Forge, PA on horseback, then in 1983, she organized the Texas Sesquicentennial Wagon Train, which covered 3,228 miles within the state, driving a classic 1915 Chicago freight wagon. She was its Founder, executive director, strategic planner, coordinator, promoter and fund-raiser of three million dollars in sponsorships. She opened a thrift shop and in 2002, she founded and created the Nation-wide, Non-Profit Organization America’s Disaster Relief, to provide assistance to various disaster-affected areas across the United States. Then she created a food truck which upgraded to a Mobile Kitchen. Despite being diagnosed with kidney disease, Jan continued to volunteer and fundraise for several years, but in 2023 due to her health issues, she decided to sell the Mobile Kitchen and cancel all events and remotely volunteer and fundraise. Her tireless efforts over the years have been an inspiration to many.

Jan attended in her early days, New York Institute of Interior Design – New York, New York, Barbizon School of Modeling after which she became a Showroom & Runway model with the Ford Agency before heading off to Saint Petersburg College / University of South Florida. She was an equestrian, riding instructor, endurance and cross country rider and drove a team. She did ranch work: branding cattle, showmanship horses, also did team penning.

She holds certifications as: Certified Radio Marketing Consultant – RAB – Dallas, Texas, Marketing and Promotions Event Professional as well as Licensed Real Estate Agent – Texas

In the television/radio/film industry, she was: Radio Director of Promotions/Marketing, designed sales packages & promotions; copywriter and handled press releases. She was a live, remote air personality, air voice, co-host of talk shows. She was a Motivational speaker at seminars, Teacher of marketing classes, Co-writer and co-director of commercials (Ford, 7-Eleven, Coca-Cola); Technical advisor for the movie Lone Star– selected sites, arranged/approved props and costumes, advised on angle and method with film crew/director.

Jan was also consultant to: State of Alaska, 50-year celebration of Alaskan Highway, State of Oklahoma, commemoration of the Oklahoma Land Rush; State of South Dakota, state-wide centennial celebration; State of Wyoming-state centennial; Residential General Contractor & Home Design – building 5000 homes in Florida & Texas.

Her work for over 25 years as a financial consultant and extensive technical knowledge of employee benefit plans have also informed her understanding of domestic violence as an economic issue affecting women's financial status and ability to plan for a secure future. Yvonne's commitment to empowerment extends beyond financial literacy, as she educates women on the importance of recognizing and addressing abusive relationships.

Yvonne grew up in the church and began reading in church as a very young girl at her great-grandmother’s annual birthday church service. Yvonne was first elected to the vestry as a teenager and has held various positions in her parish, Holy Trinity in Manhattan, on various boards, including the Church Pension Group and the American College of Financial Services, VP on the Board of Trustees of The Church Club of New York. As chair of the Diocese’s Companion Diocese Committee and later the Global Mission Commission’s chair, Yvonne fostered international mission outreach connections in congregations. She has traveled internationally, especially in Africa and India, to strengthen bonds among congregations and help develop anti-poverty programs.

Yvonne was awarded the Society of Financial Service Professionals’ Paul S. Mills Scholarship, recognizing her lifelong commitment to education, voluntarism and ethics. After finding out that her husband was cheating on her, evidenced by the venereal diseases she often had to be treated for, after he fathered two children outside of their marriage, then after he walked out on her, Marilyn turned to clubbing and drinking, losing herself for two years until she was arrested, for leaving her son asleep in her apartment, running out for a quick trip to the store not far away, by a vengeful person. Marilyn, a wife, church girl, mother, never divulged to her top tier gang member family members, OR brothers in the police force, OR church members OR well-known father, about her suffering. Wanting more for her life, through prayer, Marilyn went back to college, received her Associates Degree in Occupational Studies with a concentration in Public Health. She formed her nonprofit, Palms Upon My Hands Inc. with a mission to educate, advocate, raise voices to support efforts that demand change for teenagers and those who have suffered from domestic violence. She also collected Career Attire for men and women who are on probation, living in shelters, welfare to work programs. Mario Golden was born in Mexico City in 1964. When he was 14 his family immigrated to South Texas. He graduated from high school as a valedictorian and attended Stanford University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a master's degree in International Development Education (SIDEC) and Teacher Education (STEP). During his time at Stanford he completed internships in clinical psychology at Miramonte Mental Health Services in Palo Alto (California) and at the Constance Bultman Wilson Center for Adolescent Psychiatry in Faribault (Minnesota). He learned about theories on social transformation, feminism, Freirian pedagogy, and sexual politics and became an activist.

In the early 1990s, Mario worked as a teacher specializing in bilingual curriculum development in the California public education system. He then worked as a trainer and counselor in the field of HIV/AIDS. In San Francisco he was a coordinator and counselor at the Hermanos de Luna y Sol Program at the Mission Neighborhood Health Center Clínica Esperanza. As an activist, he participated in various organizations and movements.

Mario began his acting training with Rob Reece, a veteran member of the Actors Studio, whose teachings concentrated on the Stanislavski method combined with psycho spiritual growth work. While in training, he founded OneHeart Productions, a non-profit theater company. In New York City he continued training under the tutelage of Actors Studio veteran Alba Oms. As an actor, he has won accolades and several awards. During this time, Mario gained an interest in playwriting, and began studying with Yale University School of Drama alumnus Allen Davis, III. He then joined the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater as a member and co-director of the Professional Playwrights Unit. His plays have been staged in New York, Berlin, Münster, San Francisco, and Mexico City.

In 1998, Mario wrote and co-starred in the feature-length screenplay, Del Otro Lado, with Gustavo Cravioto. The movie premiered in 1999 at the International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in San Francisco. It was screened in other countries, including the First Lesbian and Gay Film Festival of San Francisco in Mexico City.

In 2018, Mario published Semillas, a Spanish language novel about a young gay revolutionary. The book has been received enthusiastically by readers.

For over 30 years Mario has contributed to the healing and growth of countless individuals, couples, families and communities. This includes innovative work with marginalized populations focused on empowering psychological and cultural transitions in order to make positive adjustments towards a freer and more genuine life. As a psychospiritual teacher and counselor, through his School of Mysteries, he offers counseling services, training, facilitation, and tools in areas of self-awareness, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, empowerment, and community development.

Clem Bowen grew up in Princess Town, Trinidad, and became an avid sportsman. For over a decade he worked in the aviation industry in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, where he began his journey in the entertainment industry as a DJ. Soon he was driving tours for artists such as Sister Carol and Sugar Minot, and progressed to becoming a road manager of Soca artists throughout the Caribbean, Europe and Africa. He formed his Cariwak Management Agency, which books Calypso & Soca artists worldwide, acquires work permits, travel etc, which also includes Event planning & Productions and more. He is also President of the yearly July, “Sunday Brunch on the Green’, in Brooklyn.

His mas band, Burokeete, impacted the art of Carnival and is in the history books, with a song “Burrokeet Woman” by Calypsonian, “Mighty Swallow” created for Burrokeet; won ‘Band of the Year’ twice, with approximately 3000 masqueraders and was the first Trini style mas camp at the Shell, which was renamed Burrokeet mas camp. Clem franchised Burrokeet to Atlanta, Boston, Miami and London. The Burrokeet is a costume that resembles a person riding a donkey, which has its origins in the Spanish and Venezuelan cultures. Clem is passionate about preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Trinidad and Tobago.

Dawad Philip who holds a Masters of Arts (Carnival Arts) degree from the University of Trinidad and Tobago is a mas man, journalist, painter, calypso ten manager, organizer of Caribbean Theatre Week (NY), and poet. Philip was one of five poets selected to represent Brooklyn in a Brooklyn-Leningrad Literary Exchange in the 1990s. He is the author of three volumes of poetry, Invocations 1980, A Mural by the Sea 2017 (City Twilight 2020), and Jayden and the King of the Brooklyn Carnival, (co-authored with Yolanda Lezama-Clark, 2019), Dawad’s collection of poems is an homage not only to our elusive “Sweet Trinidad” but to the many homes and everyday people he encountered in his pilgrimage through life. Some of his poems discern echoes of the distinctive riddims of Andre Tanker’s “Back Home” and Sir Derek Walcott’s intimations in “Hic Jacket,” and have appeared in anthologies including Steppingstones, Bomb, Caribbean Voices, Poetry International, Voicing Our Vision and New Rain. A recipient of New York State Fellowship on the Arts (Poetry), he has performed his works around the Caribbean, U.S., Canada; Riga, Latvia; Moscow and St. Petersburg. Selected poems of his, have been translated into Russian by the former Leningrad Writers Union. Philip keeps an active hand in the annual Trinidad Carnival and further afield as a costume designer and mas-maker, after winning back in the day, mas band awards in San Fernando Carnival. He was instrumental in the genesis of Jazz on the San Fernando Hill and gave birth (with others) to We People Mas, an all-inclusive mas band in South with designs reminiscent of mas icon Peter Minshall. After living and working in Brooklyn for nearly four decades as a poet, journalist and artist, Philip has since resettled in his hometown of ‘Sando’ San Fernando, Trinidad. A Mural by the Sea (2018), a film by the late playwright/filmmaker Tony Hall, is based on selected poems from the book of the same title. His latest book Ayedemah, which means “We are a proud nation” is the precursor to another deep dive into the 100 years of New York Carnival. His works will shortly be entered into the Library of Congress. Dr. Kendall K Williams, son of Trinidadians, began playing pan at the age of 4 and later performed with large, world-renowned steel bands in Trinidad and Tobago as well as bands in the New York-based scene for years, then after studies in architecture, he graduated from Florida Memorial University with a BA in Music under the direction of Dr. Dawn Batson, with his main instrument being the steel pan. He continued to further his studies at NYU Steinhardt, where he pursued a Master of Music Degree in Music Theory & Composition, studying with Julia Wolfe, Michael Gordon, and Rich Shemaria. There he also actively participated in the NYU Steel band under the leadership of Artist Faculty member Josh Quillen. Kendall was awarded the opportunity to work with the Brooklyn Philharmonic on a project that involved steel pan and contemporary music compositions. From 2013 t0 2014 he was the Van Lier Fellow with the American Composers Orchestra and graduated with his PHD in music composition at Princeton University! One of his goals is establishing steel pan music programs in colleges and universities that will allow musicians to major in steel pan and heads the WIADCA educational/development programs for schools, especially as he teaches in elementary schools to universities. Dr. Williams sits as CEO of Pan in Motion, an organization that he started in 2014, to promote history, education, and sustainability in steel pan. He has played in the Macy’s Parade and has won the People’s Choice award and placed 4th at the Panorama steelpan competition this past September in his second year of competition. Monique Ferguson-Riley: a mother of five, is a recent MBA graduate of Capella University. Monique also graduated from Bethel University with a bachelor’s degree in ministry in 2017. Monique herself is a sex trafficking survivor, after having been coerced by a friend at the age of 12, but since, Riley has trained over a thousand youth, parents, teachers, and professionals through various organizations and assisted victims, survivors, and their immediate family members, and has also given teens a platform to speak out on many of the social and health issues they are faced with such as bullying, teen pregnancy, depression, belonging, and abandonment, empowering youth to stand up and use their voices. …… Monique has also spearheaded the Vulnerable people project working closely with elected officials, NYPD, and department of homeland security as it pertains to the recovery of young people and promoting awareness and safety in the community. She also worked with various colleges and universities to assist in community efforts and provided jobs and internships for college students and poor youth. Wanting to gauge the community in various neighborhoods of New York City, she created surveys to explore what people knew about human trafficking and discovered that only 27 percent of the people surveyed knew what human trafficking was and how children were lured in the lifestyle. Robinson learned the business aspect of fashion and began building his fashion connections when he worked in several areas of the design industry. Tamil served as a freelance designer and consultant on Seventh Avenue in New York City, delving into building his sports licensing portfolio with companies like Puma, NFL, and more, which led to working professionally with major corporate companies to design some of the most high-profile apparel projects like the NFL Pro-Bowl All-Star uniforms that Tom Brady, Michael Strahan and other hall-of-famers have worn. Both the Absent Minded project and ADL are considered pioneers of hip-hop and urban music in Sweden, and the 1996 Absent Minded album Extreme Paranoia in Stocktown is considered a classic of the era. Prior to Absent Minded, ADL had already had success as frontman for the band Stonefunkers, one of the earliest urban-style Swedish groups. The band toured Europe while signed to Warner Music Group. ADL left the band in 1996 to become a solo rapper. As Absent Minded, with producer Vladi C, the group released three singles and one full-length album, Extreme Paranoia in Stocktown, through record labels Polydor, Breakin' Bread, and Sonet. The single Alright gained international attention when used in a Hugo Boss ad campaign, and Absent Minded toured through Europe with Fugees in 1996. In 2012 he announced that he was going to quit the music industry partly due to his religion but also because he felt disconnected to it as it had become more and more fake and less and less authentic. However he has continued to make music now and then but on his own terms. He’s also been writing lyrics for others. Songs written by Adam Baptiste includes I Like How It Feels, Walking on Air, Crash & Burn, Ready For The Good Life and Boys Will Be Boys. "I Like How It Feels" is a song by Spanish recording artist Enrique Iglesias and "Walking on Air" is a song recorded by American singer Katy Perry and for her fourth studio album, Prism (2013), is included as its fourth track. David Boothman, one of 6 siblings, is a celebrated composer, artist, musician, and educator, currently serves as Master Artist in Residence at the University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT), and the chairman of Caribbean Renaissance Foundation, founded 8/2012 - which is a fusion of creative entities plowing the ground for a cultural revitalization and the re-invention of the Caribbean identity; an innovative strategic engine creating the platform for a proactive and inter- active transformation of culture, education and tourism; shaping the future of an integrated Caribbean by preserving its heritage, through the advancement of the arts, science, education, culture and tourism; and highlighting the war heroes who brought pride to and beyond to its shores - has been involved in the arts for over 45 years. "Booty/Ze Boots" comes from a family of artists and musicians. His uncles, Boscoe and Geoffrey Holder, are two of the best known artists from the Caribbean.Two of his brothers, Michael and Roger are also awarded artists and musicians. David attended Queen's Royal College in Trinidad and won a scholarship to Pratt Institute, New York, to study Art and became an honor graduate of the institute. In addition to being a top artist, David is also an accomplished Jazz pianist and composer. He moved to the United States in 1996 where he managed several bands. With his older brother, Michael, keyboardist David Boothman, would begin their experiments in that new fusion of African music, Shango rhythms, jazz, calypso, even flirting with the musical seeds of what would become soca in a few years, with David composing and original called “So Dey Say'' which won Best Arrangement and Best Original Composition. The band “Family Tree'' consisting of the Boothman brothers which later included the steelpan prodigy teenager, Len “Boogsie” Sharp and other wonderful artists, toured with Derek Walcott’s Trinidad Theatre Workshop including Andre Tanker, the great Trinidadian flutist of the time, as well as international Jazz and Caribbean music festivals. David is the founder of CAJE Caribbean Art Jazz Ensemble and Founder/Director of the Caribbean Arts Central and Transcendental Caribbean. As a composer, artist, musician and educator, he has received numerous awards for arts in education and multi-media arts production in Trinidad and the US. In 1980, he was awarded a government scholarship through the Prime Minister’s Best Village. Boothman has written and produced soundtracks for documentaries, composed jingles and has performed and recorded with Caribbean-performing leading artists. His paintings have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Anacostia Museum, OAS, the National Museum in Dallas, Texas, as well international corporate buildings in Europe and Latin America. His works have been published in several publications, including the Musical America International Directory of Performing Art annually and the International Review of African American Art. "As a colorist, I am moved by color relationships, the subtleties of texture, nuances of line and shape, creating forms from abstract to figurative, from impressionism to cubism, from expression to quasi-realism." She is a graduate of The London College of Dance and Drama, Dartford College of Education, University of London. Artistic Director of the La Chapelle Dance Company of Trinidad and Tobago. The first Trinidadian to gain Honours in the Royal Academy Ballet Examinations and an exhibition winner. and received her early dance training from Helen Mary Kay. Awarded an Island Scholarship she studied dance in the UK, graduating with the Progress Cup and distinctions in Dance, Drama and Education.

She has collaborated with Nobel Laureate, Derek Walcott and artists like Galt Mc Dermot, composer of Hair, Roscoe Lee Brown, US, Andre Tanker, Le Roi Clarke, Greg Doran of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Elizabeth Bergmann, dance director at Harvard University and top local artists Choo Kong, Spencer, Manwarren, Machel Montano and Noble Douglas. In the UK she has worked with Greta Mendez in The Man Who Lit up the World at the Hacknet Empire and the film A Hard Rain. Choreographed the Trinidad High Commission Awards, the UK Arts production -Vodou Nation for Haiti’s 200 year Independence in Haiti and at the Hackney Empire, London. Awards include Outstanding Choreography in Theatre, 2003 for Carnival Messiah and Best Actress for Testimony, 1991. She is the Winner of five Cassique awards for Choreography in theatre, the President’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, The National Dance Association Emeritus Award and International Women Award for Pioneering Women. In 2012 she received the NWAC award for Outstanding Contribution to development in the Arts. In 2019 she was honoured by The Rotary club & as a Cultural Legend by The Ministry of Culture. 2020 saw her honoured by Queens Hall on International Teachers Day. Dr. La Chapelle served as Arts coordinator and Assistant Professor in dance at UTT until 2018. KEN SCHIFF: A native New Yorker, Ken was moved to study photography after becoming fascinated by the way images materialized in the dark room. Not long after studying a the School of Visual Arts, he moved to London after which he lived and worked around the world: the Far East, Kathmandu, the Himalayas, Malaysia, all in his early 20’s, developing his craft, expertise, style and body of work, which grew into photo-journalism which he considered his roots. Ken shot for magazines, ad agencies, publishers and fashion and beauty clients in London, New York, and South Beach such as: Miami Magazine, Cover Girl, Women's Wear Daily, Cotton Inc, Bazaar and American Express, to name a few. In the process he launched the career of supermodel Christy Turlington, who became one of the original “Big Five” -the 1990s supermodel group consisting of: Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangalista, Crawford, Patitz and Turlington. Ken was comfortable shooting in all formats, as he was on motorcycles, loving photography and cinematography, for which he made his mark in the print and television commercial arenas. TED LANGE: Born Theodore William Lange III to parents who both worked in theater and television, Ted majored in drama at the San Francisco City College, then gave up a scholarship from the University of Colorado Shakespeare Festival, for the prestigious London Royal Academy, from which he graduated as a trained Shakespearean actor. He gained attention for his performance in the original Broadway production of the musical “Hair”, which led to starring roles in “Black Belt Jones” and on the sitcom “That’s My Mama.” Ted Lange became a professor at the University of California, then became Isaac Washington on ABC’s Love Boat from 1977-1986, for 250 episodes, never receiving residuals to date. He wrote 6 episodes and directed 17 and created a Love Boat screenplay, amongst the dozen he has written. On May 10, 2018, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and directed 28 TV series and movies (including Moesha, The Wayan Bros, Fantasy Island, Passing Through - the movie and more). In 1997 he was appointed the Co-Chairman of the African American Steering Committee for the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and was one of the forces of the Directors Guild Fellowship Program, instituted to develop job opportunities for Women and Ethnic Minorities, He was named adjunct associate professor at the School of Cinema/Television at USC. Ted’s theatrical acting spans over 50 plays, has written to date 26 plays and for his theatrical directing, received the NAACP’s Renaissance Man Theatre Award; won an NAACP Best Play Award in 1997 for his play “Four Queens -NO Trump” the Heroes and Legends HAL Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Dramalogue Award. He has been the recipient of the James Cagney Directing Fellow Scholarship Award from the American Film Institute (AFI) along with the Paul Robeson Award from the Oakland’s Ensemble Theatre; the Artistic Director Achievement Award as Director of an Original Play for his comedy “Lemon Meringue Facade”; the Dramalogue Award for outstanding directing of “The Visit”. His ode to the jazz world came by the way of “The Heart of Biddy Mason, a jazz musical he co-wrote with noted jazz musician Gerald Trottman”; and the film score for the movie he co-wrote, “Passing Through” was arranged by Horace Tapscott, featuring Eric Dolphy music by Eric Dolphy, Charlie, John Coltrane and Sun Ra. MICHAEL ALAIA: A married father of 2 children, former athlete and saxophonist, widely considered a national expert in complex knee and shoulder surgeries, primary and revision ligament reconstruction and knee preservation surgery, is presently an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and member of the Sports Medicine Division at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City. He then retired to Georgia to be close to family as a father and grandfather, where he created his Racial Equity FaceBook Group, to contribute to the 1619 Project which was developed by Nikole Hannah-Jones, New York Times writer, aimed to reframe the country's history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans firmly at the forefront of the US narrative. He is a voracious reader and loves writing articles; is deeply interested in the lives and span of history of all colored people, as well as the Dharmma Group. Zoe loved paddle ball, yoga, the arts, the beach, the waves and the Agnes Pelton Society for transcendental painting to name a few things. She wanted schools to teach CRT or TTAAH – The Truth about American History. She loved James Baldwin, was interested in righting wrongs, the impact of slavery, the American Indian stories and participated in legislative meetings concerning Compassion and Choices. She wore her feelings closely, strongly, passionately. …………She pushed me to see FIRE SHUT UP IN YOUR BONES, aMetropolitan Opera production and adaptation of Charles M. Blow’s harrowing memoir, which follows a young Charles as he navigates adolescence and struggles to overcome a life if trauma. Something that I would have not paid attention to, but in seeing, was one of the most wonderful things I’ve experienced in the middle of a horrendous covid season.

I had not known Zoe a long time. In fact, I met her in Montauk in 2020 because of Leon Goodman’s 2020 Black Lives Matter walk from the 59th street bridge to Montauk. She drove me to have drinks with Curtis and friends after we celebrated Leon's successful walk, then to catch the train for my return to Manhattan. But the conversation on the way was one of the most easy-flowing and interesting ones I'd had in a very long time. We shared the same age bracket and similar thoughts on things…..

We bonded over the months primarily on FaceBook for the most part, sharing, caring and learning about each other........then she told me she had stage 4 breast cancer, with probably not more than 4-5 months to live………I was shocked, pained, worried for her…and so much more! That was at the end of 2020.

Early 2021, she began revealing some of her chemo experiences, then in July mentioned she was working on living longer…………..Zoe passed November 2021……You are missed dear, dear Zoe

CHARLES OLIVIER: Was my childhood friend who through the years, stayed very close to my family, though we both had relocated to other parts of the world. Since this taping at the end of my very first season of this podcast idea in 2020, Charles passed from health issues in the fall of 2021. It is wonderful to listen to his accolades from people near and dear to him, with his composition playing in the background. Leaving the banking industry, we hear about his love for his country of Trinidad and the entire West Indian basin, his love of soca music, singing, steelpan music, being a manager and farming. Who knew? We feel his love of friendship, considerate, positive and generous heart, and deep love of him by his friends and family. PAT TRACEY: Grew up into a medical family in Trinidad and Tobago, which then migrated to Antigua. After a stint as a flight attendant, Pat burst onto the runway in 1980 as a professional fashion model for Issey Miyake - with whom she worked very closely, along with Kenzo, Gianfranco Ferre, Yves St Laurent, Chanel, Patrick Kelly, Giorgio Armani and others. He received his B.A from the State University of New York in Politics, Economics and Society, Political Science and Government, then worked in HR at Columbia University, developing and managing strategic collaborations and pro-active business partnerships with other HR administrators and line management. He then worked for the MTA as Assistant Director, EEO, Title VI Compliance and MWDBE Marketing/Outreach for 10 years, within the diversity and civil rights arena. He mentored, advised, managed, trained, and created policies. He was also involved in MTA Small Business Mentoring Programs including Broadcast (WABC, WNBC, FIOS 1, Transit Transit News Magazine) and On-Line Print (TransitTalent.com) opportunities..... Glenn Miller was born in Georgetown, Guyana in South America, was educated at Christ Church Secondary School and attended Queen's College in his homeland. He then came to realize his dreams in the United States. After becoming an Assistant Vice President at Manufacturers Hanover Trust, he began as an intern at Double XXposure and later became Vice President of Operations, under the tutelage and guidance of the company's President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Angelo Elllerbee. While at the company for 7 1/2 years, Glenn provided public relations services for celebrities such as: Dionne Warwick, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, DMX, Dru Hill, Shabba Ranks, Big Daddy Kane and other multi platinum artists. He was the innovator of Funk Night at Café Wha?, the legendary music club in Greenwich Village that was frequented by Chaka Khan, Nona Hendrix, Cheryl "Pepsii'' Riley and others, as well as the creator of the famous Open Mic showcase at the Village Underground where Tommy Mattola, Mariah Carey, Ashford & Simpson, Stephanie Mills, Carl Thomas, Danny DeVito and other artists frequented. Some of the corporate clients he worked with were: the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, The Goodwill Games. The Literacy Crusade, ASCAP and Rough Riders/Cash Money Tour. Glenn created his company Kudegras Entertainment to continue his PR work which came in handy as he began losing his eyesight, until 2001, when he became visually disabled. Not letting that stop him, Glenn with assistance, began singing and performing poetry at events, constantly challenging himself. He also had taken a stand to help the underserved, downtrodden, those who were outcast and those looked down upon despite his own challenges. But his biggest joy was bringing people together, making them happy through food, drink, music, and great conversations. It made him happy to provide guests with his and their favorite dishes. Glenn was a playful, thoughtful, honest, giving, inspiring, gay, Black blind man, who ironically saw more than those who could see. He loved living life and bringing people together, taking immense pleasure in their joy. His former boss, Mr. Ellerbee described him as “phenomenal, a diamond among gems, whose contributions were worldly.” Glenn Miller passed on August 15, 2021, although his legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of those he touched. His life and mind were very impactful and dearly missed.

MARIO GOLDEN+ANDREAS ROBERTZ: Mario was born in Mexico and Andreas in German, but both met in NYC. At age 14, Mexico migrated to South Texas with his family and in the midst of financial hardship, graduated from high school as a valedictorian and gained full scholarship to Stanford University where he earned a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A in International Development Education. In 2002 he served as Artistic Advisor for the City Arts Council and as Residence Director at the Artheater Cologne and while there in Cologne, he produced and directed a number of contemporary American, Canadian and English plays to critical acclaim and was awarded the 2006 Cologne City Award for his direction of The Pillowman. In New York, Andreas has directed readings at the Public Theater as part of the series of New Czech voices produced by the Immigrants’ Theater Project, and other projects at Around The Block, The Theater For The New City, the Martin E. Segal Theater (CUNY) and The Mint Theater. He received the 2008 Golden Penguin for best direction at the Penguin’s Day Festival for the one-woman show “Which is My Drug of Choice?” by Kai Hensel. Andreas and Mario launched a project in Berlin in 2008 with five German actresses and a German playwright as part of an initiative for healing and reconciliation between Jewish and non-Jewish German impacted by the Holocaust. In 2014 Andreas received the H.O.L.A award for Best Production for the “Charlotte’s Song'' by Nancy Ferragallo and again in 2016, for Best Ensemble for the “Exile is My Home” by Domnica Radulescu. He has become a respected playwriting teacher and developed a second career as a cultural journalist for one of Germany’s most esteemed broadcasting networks, with hundreds of interviews on art and life. While a student studying for his BFA at NYU, David was cast in the original Broadcast production of Stephen Sondheim's "Merrily We Roll Along", directed by Harold Prince, then appeared as Peter Van Daan in the Off-Broadway chamber musical, "Yours, Anne", followed by touring as Motel the Tailor in "Fiddler On The Roof" opposite Herschel Bernardi, after which he returned to gain his degree. David later interned at the Playwrights Horizons where he became interested in casting. After a brief stint in a theatrical agency, he joined the casting department at Grey Advertising, where he began learning the commercial industry and subsequently worked for casting director, Bonnie Timmerman on "Dirty Dancing", Roman Polanski's "Frantic" starring Harrison Ford, "Ironweed", Disney's "Enchanted" starring Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson and the third season of "Miami Vice", the world premieres of Michael John La Chuisa's "The Petrified Prince" for the Public Theater and Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Whistle Down the Wind", both directed by Mr. Prince. This led to 30 years as a casting director at Donna DeSeta Casting, one of New York's busiest offices, personally casting over 2000 TV commercials, and developed techniques for teaching commercial acting, which he brings to his classes at Manhattan School of Music, NYU, Pace University, Actors Connection, other private studios around the city, as well as to his musical theater performance and auditioning classes at AMDA (American Musical and Dramatic Academy)

One of his television productions won a Cable Ace Award. He founded the Iron Violet Production Company, he blossomed as a writer, playwright, poet, lyricist,, event designer for weddings for the LGBT and straight communities, and published his book "Sell or Starve". Marcinho speaks fluent German, Spanish, Italian, Yiddish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Pidgin Creole. He continued his passion by founding his company, Social Cinema, a project that focuses on socially relevant topics and issues from critical perspectives, then co-wrote, produced and directed BARBASOL, a short film that brings awareness to mental health, fatherhood, father and son issues, dementia and alzheimers. Amala became the Producer of documentaries, educational/videos and promotionals at John Jay College of Criminal Justice for a little over 15 years and soon Adjunct Professor, leading her class in exploring the aesthetic and practical phase of filmmaking, from concept to editing. VONN HARRIS: Growing up in Baltimore, MD with his mother, after graduating from Mill High School, Vonn joined the US army, served 4 years then went back to Catonsville Community College majoring in Business Law. Taking a theater class out of boredom, he changed his major to Theater receiving an Associates in Arts degree in 2007. Later he earned a leading role in the play “The Catonsville Nine”. I love pictures that are a little gritty, ones where not everything has to be perfect. D’AMBROSE BOYD: One who has a cultivated appreciation and execution of Photography, Musical Theater, Clothing & Industrial Interior Design, Hosting and Producing. An unstoppable Virtuoso. D’Ambrose got COVID in March of 2020, it was a light version with only a temperature and some chills. By the time he got tested the symptoms had passed. The blessing is, his 87 year old mom with whom he lives and takes care of, never got it. He wonders if his belief in God and copious amounts of garlic didn’t let COVID have its way. His job backstage at Book of Mormon, on Broadway, was still in place after the COVID dust settled. After going back into the theater he realized he had been working backstage for 10+ years and his love IS being an artist. He’s making strides to get his artistry back on the primary track of his life. During this pandemic he was able to book Voice Over work and sign with a VO agent. His mom tested positive a week ago but only had slight symptoms and is doing better. . . . Again, GOD & GARLIC!!! TAIWO BAMISILE: With a degree in Psychology, Taiwo chose to compose, arrange, produce and engineer his own music, as well as follow through with his love of still-life and fashion photography. In the year of covid 2020, Taiwo became an essential worker. His accounting from that perspective is intriguing as we look to the present. Taiwo Bamisile, now an Author and Multidisciplinary of the Arts. Born and Raised in the Heart of Brooklyn had to adapt and rise above all the challenges presented to him, using communication, skill, and experience to shape and mold the world around him. One of his philosophies is “Every day is not promised to any of us, so every day we are fortunate to receive is a gifted opportunity to improve in whichever area we choose to enhance”. Taiwo released a book in 2020 called The Madness of a Thousandaire and learned wholesale real estate. In 2021 he then released a music album entitled Transfer of Scorpio Energy, with more music dropping in 2022. I am forever grateful for Taiwo who was my cameraman and DP for my 2019 YouTube video series which was the initial platform before the pandemic hit and the podcast began. He was always professional, courteous, intuitive and gave above and beyond.

EDNAH HOLT: Turn up the volume for Ednah Holt was a wonderchild as a young singer of age 5 and a 10 year old composer who went on to get her BA in Opera, perform with: Diana Ross, Angela Bofill, Barry Manilow, Bette Midler and more in the chat!!! A gold and platinum award winner, she also attained 2 Masters degrees, was part of Live Aid, wrote a 9/11 song, became a teacher and taught and is still teaching “The Rule of 72” to fellow artists, all In the pursuance of her dreams, filling that hole in her heart, doing even more so now in the midst of Covid-19. In 2021, Ednah Holt returned to teaching part time in Wilkinsburg PA in the public school arena in the elementary level because of the pandemic causing a large amount of children dropping out of school for not having computers at home and shortage of teachers. Ednah also returned to her recording career, in 2021 working on her single which was released on CDbaby, January 16 2022 called " Calling Out The Name" ( Dance Version) feat. Songz who is Ednah's hair stylist and photographer and the single can be heard on YouTube. Jacob Uitti, writer for The American SongWriter Magazine, interviewed Ednah Holt for February, 2022 Black History Month. She has also just been asked to be a performing music Teaching Artist for the children in her Pittsburgh community and continues helping artists and others to become Financially Independent, Debt Free and Properly Protected as a Licensed Representative with Primerica.

LUCINDA CARR: From Computer Programmer to Author to Publisher, to Mary Kay Rep when she decided to follow her passion to become an Actor, things have been gearing up for Ms. Carr. Since our first season’s broadcast in 2020, Lucinda rebuilt her website adding new pictures. She has had many self tape auditions and has been taking scene study with LS Studios out of Atlanta since 1/2021. She was offered 10 roles since the pandemic started, 6 in 2021. Lucinda had to turn down a TV show because she was shooting a commercial in Florida. Of the 9 roles she accepted, 3 were in the south. One was for an upcoming series on BET, which she booked, when she relocated to Atlanta for 4 months. In addition she has had her availability checked several times, which is very encouraging. CATHY GEORGE: Cathy was my very first guest and now a year has passed managing the challenges of working within this new pandemic ‘norm’, Cathy sees her co-workers dealing with the difficulty of maintaining their mental health; the duplicity of making efforts to return to work, hearing colleagues share about the issue of work and health safety due to the vaccine mandate and the shifting decisions. Cathy strongly believes in autonomy, yet she knows that only 12% of adults understand their health no matter what their background or education. The percentages decrease as individuals are older and have more complicated health issues. She has learned that she too must improve her own health, and that kindness to herself and to others no matter the situation is key.......Cathy is a Health Psychologist, IRB Regulatory Specialist and Research Program Manager, working in the neurological complications of HIV Disease, Post-Stroke Spasticity, and other research initiatives involving pain and behavior, with an interest in human behavior and how to address wellness and maintain health throughout the lifespan. Her areas of research interest involve stress, anxiety, pain management, and aging within the context of chronic illness such as HIV disease. Dr. George has a special interest in language, technology (use of virtual reality and apps) and how language can influence behavior. When Cathy is not working in research, she is a performer, musician and comedian, who loves to cheer and support others.
