Whilst this episode starts of talking about grief, it becomes a beautiful tribute to the amazing power music can have on families and beyond – with both sides of our emotions touches; grief and joy!

I have picked the song ‘Evacuate the dancefloor’ as the theme song for this episode because it appeared to me at a time when I needed a spark, something to remind me of the reasons why I created Living on the B Side.

Listening to the lyrics and hearing ‘Evacuate the dancefloor’ has given me enthusiasm, passion and determination to continue to spread the word about the power of music, how it can be part of the medicine we need to keep well and healthy. Plus, I share what type of ripple effect I want to create through it all.

Whilst all is not roses and sunshine, having this medicine in my life allows me to find balance and strength to carry one. But press ‘play’ to hear me explain more about choosing this song and what’s been happening in my life and where I need your support.

I have been singing since I can remember and I really want to encourage others who suffer that they are not alone in their suffering, there is someone who understands and can help you get past the suffering and not just survive but to live and thrive and bring joy and healing to others as well.

I'm a disabled Latina woman who is a full time caretaker for my elderly mother, I advocate for bunnies and marginalized groups.

In this episode I embark on a musical journey back to the late 1980s when a song had the power to touch our hearts, stir our spirits, and inspire our dreams. Join me as I delve deep into the enchanting melody and lyrics of "These Dreams" by Heart.

From the moment the first notes of "These Dreams" filled the airwaves, it was clear that this song was something truly special. The hauntingly beautiful voice and music pulled me in it struck a chord deep within. When reflecting on my early teenage years I share a personal connection to the song that continues to resonate through the decades.

As the years passed, it became evident that "These Dreams" was more than just a tune; it was an anthem for introverts and dreamers, like myself. The song encapsulated the power of dreams, the essence of hope, and the inspiration that can drive us forward. It serves as a comforting reminder that it's okay to be introspective, to dream, and to find strength in quiet moments.

In this episode, I try to unpack the layers of meaning within the lyrics, exploring how "These Dreams" has been a constant source of encouragement and lifting my spirits. The song's timeless message still holds the power to ignite a sense of purpose, especially when the world becomes overwhelming.

My hope is that, through this discussion, you too will come to love and appreciate "These Dreams" as much as I do. Let it become part of your soundtrack to your moments of reflection, inspiration, and determination. If you find yourself in need of a lift to keep pursuing your dreams, this episode is the dose of motivation and inspiration you've been waiting for.

In this episode, I'm going to be using Jimin’s (of BTS) song ‘’Set me free part 2’’ to talk about why this song is my second song in a trilogy of songs given to me by music, and how I apply it to my current life.

This song for me focuses on having determination, passion and overcoming and basically stepping into my true self. I feel I'm at a point where I need to get out of my own way much more, what do I want in life and how do I want to spend living it?!

It is time for me to step up and more into who I truly am, let the world know and ditch fear and concern about who says what, where and when and why.

This song is truly a wonderful anthem for anyone that struggles with letting go of these emotions and empowering to keep that determination and passion going to overcome our often self-created hurdles in life.

Do you know how music is part of being clairaudient?

I did not until I met Peta-Ann and her deep ability to see and feel music on a completely different level. She is a woman that approaches life from an angle of acceptance, love and inclusivity and in a way that is elegant but also rebellious. She is the definition of ‘Elegant Rebel’ and it is also her mission to make each and every one of us understand that we too are unique and need to share this with the world, without apology.

Part of her journey through life is deeply connected with music. And music is there to nudge her, sometimes gently other times more forcefully, to make her stop, listen and receive messages sent to her that she needs to hear and learn from.

In our chat Peta-Ann shares situations where music literally changes her mood and life. Also how growing up she always felt this deep and powerful connection to it, how this incorporates with her Woo Woo’ lifestyle and what she wants others to realise when it comes to having music in their life.

A powerful and rebellious chat that hopefully will make your ears prick up a little more when it comes to songs and sounds that are around you.

During chat we discussed:

• Her music story; from childhood to today

• The importance of music in her life

• Examples of how music can bring deep & lasting memories for us

• The power of music combined with intuition

• Elegant Rebel – the story of staying flat after break cancer & how music is connected to this

• Why tuning into clairaudience is needed for personal development

• Two songs that mean a lot to her,

• Why ‘Woo woo’ is not what people think it is

• Peta-Ann’s message to everyone

Follow Peta-Ann on her various social networks or visit her website by clicking the links on the left & below.

More about Peta-Ann Wood:

Peta-Ann is the Founder of Elegant Rebel, providing support for other soul-full rebels in rediscovering their uniqueness and celebrating all that they are and can be. Elegant Rebels choose to follow their inner-knowing instead of societal norms and take heart-centred action filled with compassion, kindness and grace.

Peta-Ann is also a breast cancer thriver, having a bilateral mastectomy in her mid-40s. Post mastectomy, she decided to elegantly rebel against society’s version of normal and chose to ‘stay-flat’ – meaning no prosthesis and no reconstruction.

This decision came after much soul searching, trial and error and discovering the really odd things that may occur to your mind, body and soul after having a bilateral mastectomy.

You can check out her book ''What happens when they don't grow back - the upside down view of life after a bilateral mastectomy' here: https://peta-annwood.au/meet-peta-ann/

How do we cultivate more self-love? How can we start to pay more attention to ourselves and give us the time and attention we need to embrace our uniqueness and accept us for who and how we are?

I started to ask myself these questions (again) after recording the interview with Barbara in episode 69 (you can listen/watch it right here). She went through a process of looking at her life and make changes, which have led her to a happier life overall – AND starting to love herself, too!

Self-love. It sounds so easy in theory to achieve this, yet most of us start off great and then feel we fail because we aren’t consistent in looking after ourselves. Or we find it super hard to even try to give ourselves what we so deeply want of others and give to others.

How can we find ways to fall in love with ourselves and continue this path, no matter what life throws at us?

I believe we need to do ‘More than Words’ and jump into action mode. When it comes to us and provide what we need, words aren’t’ enough anymore. I have picked this beautiful song by Extreme as the song to accompany this episode as the lyrics so beautifully highlight the need to stop talking about what we can and should do and start taking the steps to find our love for ourselves.

During this episode I try to share my view on what self-love is, why it is important and how music can help us with this process to create awareness on own ‘self-love scale’, ways to incorporate on our journey and fill our own cup up first.

I also mention a Spotify self-love playlist that you can use to remind yourself to keep working on that important part of your life. Go and give it a listen and please get in touch if you have more to add to this list.

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5krG8JZ9XWyctGh7LbcJQm?si=2e8c6ae9609d42e5

Let’s make sure we all love ourselves more deeply and passionately so we can love others equally.

The rock band Extreme's song I refer to during this episode is 'More than Words' https://youtu.be/UrIiLvg58SY

''Saying "I love you"

Is not the words I want to hear from you

It's not that I want you

Not to say, but if you only knew

How easy it would be to show me how you feel''

During this episode I chat about:

• How can music help us with self-love (3:19)

• The best way to start your self-love journey (8:02)

• How to help yourself with this journey (12:10)

Strap yourself in, this interview is a special one. Not every day I get to talk to someone that was ‘that’ close to being an astronaut, go into space and feel all the vibrations and sounds there is away from Earth.

•What made her re-discover this song

•The Universe and its own frequency

•What her mission in life is and what song reflects that nicely

What is your view on today’s state of music? Are the majority of the songs inspiring and mean something to you consciously? Or does it all blur into some kind of background music with no real intention or message?!

This is the main topic we touch on heavily during my chat with Chad. Chad is a musician on a mission to put the ‘intention’ back into music and songs. His mission is ‘Pop, for good’ and he strongly believes that we all need to become aware again of how important it is to have music with intention and meaning. That what we hear gets absorb by our subconscious and impacts us heavily in our day to day lives. And hence needs to be ‘food for thought’ and less distraction overall.

A fascinating and though provoking talk that hopefully will leave you pondering and question the music you listen to and why.

During out time together we chatted about:

•Why he is a musician on a mission

•What his vision and mission entails

•His view on the current state of the music industry

•Why he believes we need to wake up and start a change in this industry

•The song that kicked off his love of music and understanding of its power

•Why people recording/live streaming concerts makes him a little mad

•How our subconscious has been ‘trained’ for certain actions in life (by various sources), example is at live concerts

•What he picked Caroline Polacheck’s song ‘Welcome to my island’ as one of his current favourite songs

More about Chad:

Chad Lewine followed the same path that most aspiring talent does. At 5 years old he knew he wanted to be a rock star. But the reasons for the dream have shifted throughout his life. His first exposure to music production was through elective music tech and audio engineering classes in high school. In 2009 Chad started taking his own music seriously while attending college at the now defunct Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Chad recorded his first single, “Life is a Ride” at Krizan’s Sonic Boom Studios in Raritan, NJ in 2010.

In the summer of 2013 he renamed himself as HoneyChrome and reoriented his music to the EDM and hip hop of the time, OUTwithU was one of the first songs he released during that time. In 2013 Chad moved into one of the last real artists’ lofts in Brooklyn at Bedford & Myrtle in Bed Stuy. This creative environment, led by actor and director Lin Lauren, was the first time he had ever been surrounded by and immersed in art. Here he wrote and recorded most of his second self-produced album, the 14 track new-age, spirit-science laden and anthemic Daylight Animal.

At the end of 2017, Chad’s homemade demo for Boomerang, also featured on Feeling High, caught the ear of a radio promoter who connected him with Mike Rogers, mixing engineer of the 90s global hit Groove is on the Heart. Rogers ended up producing Chad’s biggest track yet, Boomerang. Released in the summer of 2018, Boomerang is a sticky and infectious pop record, with sonic accents that just feel like Chad.

During the second half of 2022, Lewine’s mission fully crystallized. Through the turbulent end of an abusive relationship and a renewed and confident sense about his music, POP, FOR GOOD was born and the first proper brand was developed for his artistry. With an image that matches his outspoken, somewhat existentialist and controversial perspective, Lewine has fully owned his mission and has just released his latest single Dark Nights, on February 15th, 2023.

Music loving parents listen up – this episode is for you! I have invited Jenn Abbatiello to spill the beans on how to strengthen the bond between parent and child by using music.

From how music effects your child’s brain and hence emotions to incorporating music in our daily lives, Jenn shares her own experiences and tips on this topic. Also, through working with many parents she believes that to parent with compassion, empathy, kindness and love it is up to us adults to learn to regulate our own emotions first.

Tune in and listen to a wonderfully insightful chat around parenting, emotions and how music definitely can help you with that.

During out time together we chatted about:

•Why we adults have to learn to regulate our emotions (for our kids)

•Who struggles more with emotions - mum or dad?

•Tips for parents and how to integrate music with their parenting

•Why it's important to ensure both boys and girls are emotionally regulated and well

•Her favourite song & band & some cool stories around that

•What type of music her own kids listen to

•How important music is in her home and how it helps with her parenting

•Why we should expose children to all emotions and music that makes them feel it

•Song that describes her life and or business right now

•Final words (includes a FAB quote!)

More about Jenn:

Outwardly my life looked idyllic; successful career, beautiful family but on the inside I was a mess. Desperate to stop my child's tantrums. It wasn't until I learned to shift my lens and look inwards that I was able to decode my own triggers. What message they were sending me. My child was a mirror showing me parts of myself that remained unhealed. When I healed those parts I was able to look at my child with a different lens of love and compassion and finally break the cycle.

I became more loving towards myself, my now 2 boys and my husband as well. I found more joy, confidence and calm in my parenting AND life.

This is why I am committed to helping other mom’s break cycles of guilt, anger and shame. Music is a part of that healing journey.

We all have dreams and desires, but most of us are too afraid to go after them. It takes facing our fears to openly declare and work towards fulfilling what we crave so much and know is what we want.

Luke is a wonderful example of going through this process, from the moment of discovering his dream of playing on stage in front of thousands with his favourite band to now openly declaring that it will happen.

What an interesting conversation around the discovery of this and to now executing and working towards making it a reality.

We talk a lot about fear and how that impacts our lives, with of course a music twist, a conversation not to miss!

During out time together we chatted about:

· When Luke started to take music more seriously. 1:40

· The importance of taking the first step in life. 5:47

· Limiting beliefs and overcoming them. 9:16

· Sharing Luke’s journey and dreams. 12:59

· The power of music and emotions. 17:23

· Music is not judgmental but neutral. 22:07

· Make friends with your fear. 26:08

More about Luke:

Luke Rossmo began his music career at the age of 28. Fear and self-doubt keep him playing small. Over the following three years he played dozens of gigs, released a music single, “It’s you” then Album titled “pieces of me”.

His music has been described as if Dave Matthews, Ed Sheeran and Eddie Veddar got together to write play and collaborate.

Join Luke on his next journey which he’s tilted “The Im(Possible) Dream”. Luke’s dream is to play with the greatest band in the world (in his opinion) The Dave Matthews Band.

He hopes to inspire others to look at their own lives to see where they may be holding themselves back and aspiring to their own dreams.

There’s also a conversation around why we need the makers and listeners of music and how that ties in with his overall message for the wider world.

Are you looking for an inspiring and uplifting chat about the power of music? Look no further as I welcome Billy Cole to the podcast. Billy’s life is all about music, passion and giving back.

Over the course of nearly 50 years in the music business, his love of music and music instruments (specifically woodwind and brass instruments) has allowed him to create experiences and memories he now shares in his new book ‘With the Band, Memoirs of a Music Shop Owner’.

It truly is a chat not to be missed and provides many, many goosebump moments as well as how music can translate into giving back and connecting with a wider community.

During our chat we touched on:

· How his music instrument journey started

· What his book ‘The Book: With The Band, Memoirs of a Music Shop Owner’ is about

· What ‘Horns for Haiti’ is all about and how it came to life

· The power of music and the amazing things that can happen if we trust in it

· The first artist he met and fixed the instrument for

· More stories of looking after and fixing wind instruments for many more musicians, including Jethro Tull, Hall & Oats, Chicago, etc.

· How many amazing humans he met along the way, away from musicians

· When he pivoted from a big business with employees to ‘back to basics’ with a smaller shop in Saratoga Springs

· What does and doesn’t happen backstage of a concert

· Who he describes as his ‘Angels’ and why he sees them as that

· Advice for those who think of learning an instrument

· The amazing benefits of playing an instrument with others and for others (and fixing instruments, too!)

· His take on the power of music

· If he has a favourite band, and if so, who it is

· Current band and or song he listens to

· His take on the current music scene and bands

Billy Cole’s Biography:

At the age of 17 I went to The University of New York at Morrisville where I studied musical Instrument repair. With diploma in hand, I applied for work but found that no music store wanted to hire me. So, I opened my own shop "Cole's Woodwind and Brass" Soon after I married my high school sweetheart Mary Alice. through many serendipitous twists and turns, we raised our family with our little music shop. Today, after 45 years of working on horns, I reflect back with great appreciation for a life that has given so much. In an effort to give back I travelled to the impoverished nation of Haiti in 2016 to teach instrument repair. After returning several times, I founded Horns for Haiti Inc. in 2020, an organization that teaches band instrument repair and how to start your own music business. To date, we've trained dozens of musicians and music teachers how to repair and started two businesses. Billy Shop D'Haiti, Musical Instrument Repair and the Haitian Music Supply Company.

In this first episode of 2023 I share with you why I chose to set intentions rather than ‘New Years Resolutions’ or big goals.

I also decided to have monthly theme songs and share how these are connected to my intentions, plus I share some ideas how you can use intentions for yourself. I give you an example of my January theme song, which I hope explains what I try to achieve through this process a little more.

Plus, why I did not do a ‘2022 in review’ episode and why that was a blessing in disguise as it allowed me to realise a few things that I needed to move forward.

During this episode I chat about:

· How my December 2022 did not turn out as I planned

· Why this was a blessing in disguise

· Quick 2022 review for my podcast

· Why I am setting intentions instead of goals

· My theme song for January 2022

· Ideas how you can use intentions (more)

Has a song every had such a profound impact on your life that it made you change your name?

This is a first for me to hear about such a deep and life changing moment induced by a song, which Avery shares so beautifully during our chat. It actually left me a little speechless!

You definitely want to hear her story which is closely interwoven with music, from the moment she knew it was time to change her name and all that followed – including how she uses music with her clients today!

A little bit about Avery:

Avery Thatcher is the CEO and founder of the Inner Stillness Outer Chaos Podcast and the Flow State Membership. When she started her career as a Registered Nurse working in the ICU she noticed that the majority of the reasons people found themselves in the ICU were because of illnesses and diseases that could be linked to chronic stress. She decided to get out of the reactive side of medicine and now helps highly sensitive high achievers prevent burnout and reverse the negative health effects of stress.

During our chat we covered:

· Avery being a highly sensitive person & how music helped her growing up

· How music can catch you off-guard (with your emotions)

· Her backstory the lead up to the big life changing moment

· The process she went through AFTER hearing the life changing song

· Why she had to change her first name

· What stands out about this specific song, even today

· How she believes specific playlists help us move through emotional states

· Suggestions of songs that can help with that

· How she is using music in her business to support clients

· Why it’s important to move away from too much analytical thinking and into our emotions

· The song that describes her business and or life right now

On today’s episode I chat to Niki Sibera, a Food Freedom Architect and founder of Happy Hearted Eating.

Niki is a wonderfully calm and centred lady, who had her fair share of trauma to work through, which she did amazingly well. Now she is passionate about using all she has experienced, lived through both in her private life as well as through her work in the health care sector, to support and empower other women to NOT use food as a mask for what really is going on - or as Niki says, ‘listen to the whispers from the pantry and the fridge’.

This is a great conversation around food, healing through music and of course we cover which artists have helped her along the way to process all that had been going on in her life.

Find out more about Niki:

As a young 52-year-old woman, she is pivoting from a 6-figure corporate career in health care leadership, using the heart healing work she has done over 30 years to transform her traumatic childhood experiences, into being a fierce guide and mentor for women who are ready for Happy Hearted Eating

Now she is on a mission to walk alongside women to stop finding herself holding open the door of the fridge or cupboard, feeling miserable because she can’t seem to help herself. Thinking she’s all alone, that she’s a total failure and wondering why the hell she can’t seem to pull herself together. In the work that we do together, we explore what’s behind the eating, to see how her own trauma monster has taken over her heart and taken over how she copes. He has learned to be compassionate with her trauma monster and would like to show other women how to do that too so that the cupboard and fridge doors stay closed while the heart opens wide and we get to Happy Hearted Eating! We can’t diet our way out of ‘stress eating’. So rather than focus on what you are eating, together we focus on what’s eating you.

She leads with her heart so she can make sure the people around her know that she cares deeply, including her clients. She asks heart-focused questions so the heart can shine through – and then she gives a hug after. She helps others grow by creating a safe place – even people in the grocery store line up end up telling her incredibly personal things. They know they are safe with her and that she sees the beautiful person they are, even when they feel fucked up. She has a magical way of seeing right into people’s hearts. People feel seen, heard and understood when they are around Niki.

She wants all women to feel free – to learn how to tame the whispers from the fridge. To not feel alone and desperate. To not feel ashamed anymore. Learn to flip that switch and feel so sparkly on the inside that you shine!! Let’s all get our Happy Hearting Eating on!!

In this episode we cover:

· What made her walk away from her corporate job

· What traumas she experience in the past and what music supported her in her healing journey

· Why music is medicine in her eyes

· Why businesses should integrate music much, much more in their every day work life

· Her final words before we wrap up the episode

I am back with a solo episode to end my birthday month celebration. In this episode I start with reflecting on having two guest speakers join my Facebook group community and share around freeing your voice and use it through advocacy.

Music can truly allow us to find our voice. Sometimes we do need a bit of support with the ‘how’, and that is where collaboration comes in. Which my guest speakers Elisa S. Keeler and Rachelle Babler have done so beautifully. I am beyond grateful for them to share their knowledge.

If you would like to check out one or both presentations, you can do so in my FB Group or message me for the replay link.

Then I talk about the changes this month has triggered in me and what that means moving forward with Living on the B Side.

During this solo episode I cover:

· Reflection on my birthday month

· Guest speaker’s takeaways for me

· Why I chose collaboration again

· Some changes for LOTBS after this month

Rachelle Babler grew up in Southern California near the sunny beaches of San Diego and has always been an avid traveller, musician, advocate and creative soul. At the height of her career in forensics in 2017, she quit her job cold turkey to pursue her “why”. Which is 'To empower others to consciously advocate on stage or through music, SO THAT they can heal, inspire and unite the human collective'.

She is a #1 International Best Selling Co-Author, TEDx Speaker and proud mama to her two children Austin and Camryn.

We touch on the steps she uses in her program and how you can make a start in creating a song to advocate for a cause you are passionate about.

I love that with my clients who take the leap to take their speaking to the next level and to really create human impact because we don't know when our time is going to end on this in this lifetime. And you don't want to have those regrets. You don't want to have should have could have would have, I wish I would have done this, or I wish I could have done this or anything like that” ~ Rachelle

In today’s episode I chat with Eric Bauberg, a Holistic Life Coach and Motivational Entertainer who works with people one-on-one as well as in groups through his workshops.

Eric’s story is a sad yet fascinating one, where surrender plays a massive part in. If he did not learn to surrender, then the tragic death of his beloved sister could have had a different outcome. Yet, through being able to surrender he connected deeper with his sister and this enabled him to finally step up and into the person he is today.

Listen to this incredible interview to gain insight into how to deal with a terrible loss of a loved one that turned into a journey where music and coaching come together and inspire others towards their greatest self.

A bit about Eric’s work:

In his one-on-one coaching, he guides self-aware individuals to tune their minds and their bodies, so that they could create more ease and flow as they move towards their greatest self.

When Ben is hosting workshops, he tries to teach certain principles, certain tools, while telling his own story and infusing his own original music in there to really influence the energy, but also to really ground the message of what he is trying to say and where it has brought him in life.

During chat we cover:

· Eric’s life up until the moment that changed his life forever

· What he calls the ‘gift of tragedy’

· Why he felt he led a double-life

· Moment of his sisters’ passing & what surrendering has to do with it

· How music played a particularly big part in this tragic phase of his life

· The message he now shares with others around spirituality & music

· Examples of how he moved from ‘fear to fuel’ as a musician

On this episode of the Living on the B Side podcast I welcome Philippa to the microphone. Philippa is a proud Northerner, who studied law at university, and she spent most of her career exploring the UK, subconsciously seeking "home". She settled in the beautiful city of Bristol where she now lives with her husband, two teenage sons and Bob the dog. During her own personal transformation, through healing childhood trauma and learning to love and live for herself, she arrived at her soul mission to guide people to be the truest versions of themselves because she believes that is the greatest gift we can give ourselves. She proudly supports Nacoa (the National Association for Children of Alcoholics). Discovering a joy for writing, wild-swimming and even running (slowly) in mid-life has been a fabulous surprise. Philippa has a podcast (Meeting of Minds) and is a certified coach. Her memoir, I See, Me, was released on 30th November 2021 and is available in paperback and on kindle at Amazon.

During our time together we chat about: · Why she created a music playlist about her life story · Her take on the messages we receive around who we should be or shouldn't be · When she realised she needed external help and seek therapy · How younger people can use music to stay true to themselves · Why one song can help you potentially figure out how you are feeling · Her message to younger people in the world & how music is connected to that

Have you ever thought about how the meaning of music, or more specifically a song can change for us over time?

In this episode I share my thoughts on this question as well as an exercise that you can do very easily that can answer this question.

If you are a little bit like me, then self-development can be a bit tricky at times; you might feel you aren't getting it or not making enough progress, etc. etc. However, you probably are further along than you think, and this is where music can help you find proof of that.

Come and take 10 minutes out of your day and let’s spend some time together, on the B Side of life.

On today’s episode:

· My reason/inspiration for creating this episode

· How to use music to find proof that you are making progress

· Simple exercise that you can do to see this for yourself

· Example how I used it for myself with a specific genre of music

Life is all about getting up and try. And try again. And keeping our desires and goals in our minds an hearts, even if we get ‘burnt’ at times.

Today I share how I am slowly making this transition from numb to trying. How I feel this particular song is more than a love song, it is so much more (I wonder if Pink realised that when she wrote it?!)

If you are feeling a little numb right now, spend these 10 minutes with me and see if I can inspire you to find your song(s) that help you come out of that numbness and back into trying to create a better life.

Quick overview of today’s episode:

This time on my Podcast I share with you how 'Numb’ by Linkin Park presented itself to me at the right time and allowed me to recognise how I currently feel. Yes, as you can guess, it is numb!

This must be one of the most annoying and hardest emotions to break through, yet there are small steps we can take to move away from it and back into a happier us.

I hope this episode makes you feel less alone if you are in that space, too and inspires you to hit ‘play’ on songs that help you feel better.

During this episode I share with you:

· A little bit about the actual song itself

· The reasons how I ended up feeling this way

· What I started to do to change this feeling and move into a happier place

Do you or have you felt ‘numb’ before? I would love to hear your experiences and how you moved out of this.

Do you remember the song ‘Turn back time’ by Aqua? It is the title song for the movie ‘Sliding Doors’ with Gwyneth Paltrow. The movie centres around one woman, played by Gwyneth, and two storylines, showing two paths her life could take depending on whether she catches a Tube on the London Underground or not (hence the 'sliding door' title).

This song got me thinking about how often we might have ‘sliding door’ moments, what we can learn from them and how to not get stuck in the loop of revisiting those moments.

Join me whilst I ponder this question centred around this song (and movie) and let me know your thoughts on it.

Main points on today’s episodes are:

· 1:27 What the movie ‘Sliding Doors’ is about

· 3:30 Why learning to make a healthy decision that is good for us is important

· 6:30 How music can assist us with healing from those ‘sliding door’ moments

In this first solo episode of 2022 of the Living on the B Side Podcast my focus is on my picked theme song & word.

I do a little review on last years’ choices and how that worked out for me, using this process instead of goals. Also, I provide a few examples on what went well by using this method and how it made me feel overall.

Then I reveal my choices for 2022, how I picked them and why I decided to go with these choices. In essence I feel us quiet and introverted humans should and can shine more brightly and these fit in nicely with my vision overall for this year.

Next up I share with you my tips on how you can pick your own theme song (and word), these are simple ways to connect with how you want to feel and be. And hopefully allow you to feel happier with yourself and achieve more of what you want in life.

Using a theme song is a gentle and fun way to align yourself not only with your values but also overall vision in a way that doesn’t feel forced or tense.

In this episode of the Living on the B Side Podcast I talk about:

· Review of my 2021 theme song & word (1:00)

· 2022 theme song & word (04:10)

· How you can pick your own song and/or word (08:34)

Birgit’s Words of Wisdom:

“Having my theme song in my head, knowing that this is my theme song, I can fall back onto that and really push through mental and physical pain”

“The world needs more of us quiet and introverted humans to shine the light to brighten up this world, to allow people to see us”

“We have this gentleness to create better energy on this planet, better surroundings for the people that we love and care about”

In this episode I welcome Michelle Hessing ‘to the microphone’, who is a quiet business owner of a Branding Design & Printing company based in Newcastle, NSW and specialises in an integrated approach to creating and designing branded material and collateral to bring products and services into the marketplace. Designing for marketing, packaging, social media, presentations and documentation and printing - to promote and sell products and services locally and globally.

She took up learning to play piano at the age of 41 after years of thinking she wasn't smart enough to learn to play. She is teaching piano as well but currently her piano studio is in mothballs while her branding and printing business is the main focus.

During our chat with cover her approach to capturing the ideas of her clients (talk about imagination ability!) and to how she currently works on a piano piece for her father, who sadly has passed away. Michelle also shares her experience that led her almost to give up on her dream of playing the piano, how she found a way to make it happen and why she believes anyone can play an instrument.

She says: “I feel that every rough patch, big event, significant moments are attached to certain songs and sounds that trigger the memory surrounding that moment. Then for some reason I started to listen to music differently. Not just about remembering the words and shaking my thang and working out dance moves but really listening.”

Tune in to listen to the whole conversation – it is worth it!

I have invited Nat back to my Podcast so we can go down memory lane about our joint love for the New Kids On the Block.

We have met through them back in 2012 and have stayed really good friends ever since. Plus we have found out how much of a positive impact Donnie, Jordan, Joe, Danny and Jonathan had on us growing, we decided to hop on again and share with you all about this amazing band!

Boybands seem to have get a bad rap, so we are trying to highlight the good (and right) stuff NKOTB has done for us and our lives.

Through their upbeat and positive pop music to the people we have met along the way, all this has definitely had a massive impact on us and helped to shape us into who we are today.

Do you have a deep and crazy love for a boyband? Or any other artist or band? I would love to hear all about it. Leave a comment below or send me a message.

In today's episode I am going way back to the mid 1980's and the hit TV show Miami Vice and the song 'Crockett's Theme' composed by Jan Hammer.

The song refers to one of the main characters James "Sonny" Crockett played by Don Johnson and was aired in the first episode in October 1984.

Listening to this song brings back a huge flash of emotions: hope, excitement, flow as well as pondering, reflection. But not only that - it's also about the evolution of music and fashion. So many new things came out of this TV show, especially the music, including this song, have left a huge imprint on me.

I share my thoughts around this song and what I am taking away from it, apart from what I have mentioned above, and I suggest a way to use it as a tool to do some soul-digging.

If you have a memory or experience to share to this song, please message me, I would love to hear about out.

Self-love is talked about so much yet not practiced enough. Over the last couple of weeks I have dived into my own journey of self-love and what I discovered is a bit sad and disappointing but also a great place for me to make changes.

Are you loving yourself enough? If you said yes, how do you show yourself that love? What do you do on a daily basis to make yourself feel loved and valued?

In this episode I share my thoughts around this topic and why we need to dive into ourselves first before wanting to 'love the world'.

During this episode I mention the amazing Lisa Carpenter, who was one of three expert coaches in a recent Mastermind I was part of. Definitely go and check her and her work out - she is amazing!

What songs would you put on your self-love playlist? Below are my two suggestions, send me yours - I would love to add them to my own one.

Hailee Steinfeld - Love Myself

Meghan Trainor - Me Too

I had the pleasure to welcome Emilie Lundberg to my Living on the Side Podcast and talk all things music and kids and families.

Emilie has a passion for helping parents and their kids connect and become closer by using her Music Adventure Box and hence create a stronger bond as a family unit.

In our chat she shares her journey to get to where she is today, the amazing results using her box can bring and also how it all works.

You really have to tune in and hear for yourself what a beautiful business and vision Emilie has created.

Emilie is a passionate music educator, loving mother of twin girls and a busy boy, and a blessed wife. She grew up in Utah, Montana, and Ohio and now claims Utah as her home. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a dual degree in Elementary Music Education – with an emphasis on Early Childhood Music. Emilie is Kodaly-certified and loves using the Kodaly-method as her structure with Dalcrose, Orff, and other methodologies mixed in to her teaching! She taught in the Provo school district for 5 years, teaching general music education to Kindergarten-6th grade students, while also serving as the Special Needs Music Specialist for the district. She was nominated for the Beverly Sorenson Arts Award. She has been teaching the Music and Movement classes at Suzuki String Institute for the last 3 years.

She was head of the Early Childhood Music Department at The Gifted Music School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her work at The Gifted Music School included overseeing the Early Childhood Music Program as well as teaching early childhood music classes herself. She was one of 2 teachers that created the afterschool music program GRIT that has given underprivileged students the opportunity to learn violin, singing, and so much more while giving them the confidence to learn to perform for the Governor and so many other dignitaries.

Emilie’s current project includes founding and creating Music Adventure Box LLC which is a subscription box and online music lesson company. These boxes and lessons create a way for families to connect and play with their children at home through music.

When asked what her favorite thing about teaching is, she said, “I love that when you teach music, you are not just teaching music. You are teaching how to be a human. The skills these students develop as they hone their music practice sets them up for life-long success. It’s a miracle to be part of all of that and see their potential blossom.”

For those living outside of the USA, Emilie has a digital program that is priced at just $25 a month where they receive online music classes, online musical sign language classes, and printable versions and videos of each month's Music Adventure Box.

Come and join me in this guest episode where I speak to Shawna Smith - visionary, mom of 5 who is a women’s health advocate and educator.

She helps busy women find relief from menstrual pain and balance in their daily lives. Music is one tool she is using to detect where in our bodies we might hold some tension or discomfort, which then leads us to feeling out of balance overall. But don’t take my word for it, listen how Shawna has explored and evolved this idea of using this tool to support women on their journey!

Today, she shares her journey on how she has come to include music in her business to support women to find freedom inside and out and also shares some ideas and tips on how we can all start to tune into ourselves – yes, you guessed it - by using music.

Plus, what song(s) she turns to when she needs a ‘lift me up’ and help her feel stronger and confident in her mission and vision.

Shawna is passionate about creating a world where women can trust their intuition about their individual health journey. She loves animals of all kinds, movie marathons, and pictures of the beach…but not necessarily being at the beach.

In this solo episode it’s about who we can and need to BE to create the best life ever.

Inspired by Des'ree’s song ‘You gotta be’, I chat about why I believe it is a crucial time for all of us to think and moodle about this more as well as the impact each and every one of us can create by stepping in our best BEing.

Based on these lyrics from the song:

‘’Time asks no questions, it goes on without you

Leaving you behind if you can't stand the pace

The world keeps on spinning

Can't stop it if you tried to

The best part is danger staring you in the face, oh’’

I share my view on what stepping into being more of ‘us’ means and what it can achieve and also why I believe it is so important right now.

Kim believes that cultural empathy will heal the world and that if we all had more cultural empathy and more understanding of where one another is coming from, if we could just kind of see beyond how we feel about something and understand why somebody feels a different way, then that alone would go a long way into healing all of these risks and all of this pain and all of this suffering and all of this divisions in our world. She lives in Trinidad and Tobago with her husband. Their three sons have no clue she’s been secretly teaching them Spanish through music!

I loved our chat about specifically that music can be an ice breaker to get to know each other and our cultures better. Listen to this whole episode right now and let us know what you think.

Kim is running a 5 day language challenge ‘Loving Your Spanish’, starting 2 August 2021, the ultimate challenge experience taking beginner Spanish learners from intimidated to loving and excited to use the language! For 20USD to get access to Kim and the challenge. More details and how to sign up can be found via this link: https://overtheandes-gmail-com.ck.page/180f609158

How often do you think to yourself ‘you don’t know me’ when someone judges or criticises you? Or maybe you even asked this about yourself?!

This song by Armand van Helden came out in 1999, when I lived in London on my own and had to navigate life away from home and learn to live in a different country. On many occasions, I probably got judged, yet people did not know me and why I did what I did. This song was and still is a reminder that no matter what I do in life, there will be judgement yet it doesn’t mean I do anything wrong or should act differently.

This message came through again whilst I going through a 30 day Inspirational coaching call program this month. Run by a coaching friend of mine, his intention is to help us develop a mindset that is all about taking responsibility and ownership of our life, become better at the ‘mindset game’ and step into better versions of ourselves.

So far it has been eye opening and I already made some shifts that are amazing and I am truly grateful for this experience that allows me to show more compassion and understanding towards myself and others.

I am sharing more about this 30 day journey in this week’s episode.

Nat is Hub Productions Talent Handler, Guest Liaison & sometimes MC and Sublime Talent Rep, who works at ComiCon Conventions as well as other TV Show & Movie events, using her organizational and people talents to look after a wide range of talent, including actors, writers and other creative minds in that area.

Her love for all things Music and beyond started after being given a Lepa Brena album on cassette and her grandma would her play the album on the huge stereo system in their loungeroom where they would dance together to the songs. These moments are very special and helped Nat form the respect and love she has for her culture’s music.

Through this early experience of Music and how it can create amazing memories, she went on to create more wonderful moments related to and with Music. We talk about one particular one related to Ricky Martin and how many unexpected moments have come about, which shows that it isn’t always one-sided in how memories/experience get made and felt.

Wilson Philip’s song ‘Hold on’ is the inspiration for today’s episode, in which I talk about my super bad day I had this week, what I believe made it worse and the lessons I learned from it all.

Do you often give into your limiting beliefs and fears and end up with your day being run by those?

Maybe you even feel like having chains around your hands that hold you back from being happier and in control of our life?

Our personal fears in life can really paralyse us, yet the only person who can break those chains is, you guessed it, is you!

Maybe it’s time to identify why you are holding yourself back and start to make small and consistent changes.

AND don’t forget to play this song to keep you inspired to move towards those changes.

Music has many benefits when learning a new language, and today I am sharing how I used it to learn English.

From sitting at my desk in my room, with pen and paper and a dictionary to end up passing my Cambridge Advance English test when I was 18 back in Switzerland, music has been there by my side and supported me in achieving this goal.

And I believe you too can use it to your advantage to learn a new language, hence share a few ideas on where to start and what to do.

If you are wanting to get started but are not sure how to use Music to start learning a language, maybe this episode can be of assistance.

In this episode of my music storytelling Podcast, I share why I believe gently stretching ourselves and opening up to someone / our closer community can help us so much when we feel the world is overwhelming. Or when we feel undeserving and loose our self-believe.

Inspired by Cyndi Lauper’s song ‘True Colours’, I am talking about how I dealt with my low mood by reaching out to my close-knit community of introverts and it made me feel so much better.

By also quoting some of the lyrics to this song, I hope to inspire you to dig into yourself and reveal your amazing true colours and realise that we all contribute to make the world a better, more sparkling place. And that you are beautiful and needed as you are.

On my journey to dig a little deeper into why music is so important to us humans and the reasons behind this, I started to ask myself questions. And this one is the first one.

Not only have I myself pondered on this, but also put the question in my Facebook Group Community and their answers were amazing and beautiful. I will share some of them in this episode as well as my answers, which I hope inspires you to do the same - ask the question and find meaningful answers.

I also hope that thinking about this means you can make music a more integrated part of your daily life and enrich it for the better.

It's time to mention one of the most important human in my life - my mum!

Without her gentle and at times invisible guidance when it comes to music, I don't think I would have experienced or get to love music as much as I do today.

In this episode I reminisce a little on how she has shape my music journey and what we have experienced together. From the early age to my teenage years to now, music without my mum wouldn't be the same.

It's a different kind of Mother's Day gift, especially since I am half way around the world away from her (I am in Australia, she is in Switzerland) and I wanted to express my appreciation for her, so the world knows what a special woman my mum is.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation that is new to you? One that can make you nervous and maybe even anxious?

That's how it was for me a few weeks back when I had to go 'in the tube' for a back scan.

In this rather unusual setting, I was able to use the power of music to help me with my mindset and new experience without freaking out too much.

Often times we don't think about using music in this way and in this episode I share what I did and hopefully it can inspire you to try out this tip as well.

I have chosen the song 'Unwritten' by Natasha Bedingfield for this episode, because I love how she created lyrics to encourage us look at our life as a book full of blank pages. We can choose how to fill these pages  - loving, exciting encouraging and positive or the opposite.

It's our choice and I believe through writing we can explore all facets of ourselves and then re-write how we spend out days, weeks, months...our whole life!

I also provide some ideas for those of you who want to start to write in a journal, but are unsure how to start and what to write about.

Come and join me as we explore how 'Unwritten' can support us in making daily changes to our 'book of life'.

This song always helps me refocus and put things in perspective when I am not sure where I am headed in life.

'Destination' Unknown is from the official Top Gun Movie soundtrack and has been on my favourite song playlist for years.

During this episode I will pick out a few sentences from this song and hopefully inspire you to look at your life and challenges a bit different, maybe even with new enthusiasm and confidence that your life's journey can be fun and good - even without knowing exactly where you are going.

There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, sometimes it is a dim light and other times it is almost as blinding as the sun.

Please give this song a listen and hopefully it can brighten your day.

We all know New Year's Resolutions and let's be honest, how many of you actually stick to them?

How about selecting a theme song & word for 2021?! It's a simple and different way to achieve probably more with more ease.

In this episode, I go through what this is all about, how you can find yours and what mine are.

(And a heads up, it is 2021 and not 2020 as I refer to a few times. I am very excited to talk about this, so a few small slips are okay, right?!)

In this episode I am sharing who I am, where I am originally from (here’s a hint and say hello to ‘Heidi’, cows and yummie chocolate!) and where I have spent my time living so far.

I also share the story about how my passion project ‘Living on the B Side’ has come into existence, why Music is my ‘red thread’ in life, how I have come up with the name and why it is perfect to me.

Then I talk about what to expect in future episodes, solo and guest interviews. Plus, why I believe music is a big part of our healing process, as individuals and as a community.

Join me so we can get to know each other much better and start to make a change in our life as well as others, one song at a time.

Rock music has been there for Hilde since she was 13 and she discovered the music of Kiss and later on AC/DC and Iron Maiden. Many bands came and left until she saw GOTTHARD on MTV with 'All I Care For' on July 31st 1992. She was blown away!

Their music and the amazing voice of STEVE LEE was life changing….as he was.

Ever since that day she dreamed of working for them. The first dream came true when Hilde was asked by their management to start the Fanclub in Belgium in 1994. For 15 years she did volunteer work with translations, reports and reviews for the Official Fanclub until her big dream came true and she could take over their Official International Fanclub professionally in 2009.

Since then she has added MAD MAX and PICTURE to her RockDreams Agency business, where she supports bands with their fanclub, promotions and merchandise needs.

Her main driver for doing what she does is and always will be the passion for the band’s music.
