Connecting Bridges and Borders
Just because we all have to stay home doesn't mean we can't still travel across the globe! The Institute for Dispute Resolution (IDR) at New Jersey City University has taken the digital initiative of creating an educational and innovative video discussion series on YouTube called Connecting Bridges and Borders. It also has a podcast counterpart on Spotify! Members of the IDR team such as its Founder and Director, Professor David Weiss, Visiting Scholar Dr. Jennifer McDevitt, and Doctoral Fellow Michael Arbitblit each collaborate with individuals throughout the world to discuss the economic and cultural impact that the pandemic has had their respective communities. Each video is unique in its own sense by giving a platform for these academics, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders to discuss their perspective through their own prism of knowledge of education, technology, business, and innovation.
The Institute for Dispute Resolution and the NJCU Innovation and Entrepreneurship club proudly present this collaboration with the Rising Knight Institute to bring a panel of entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and those out in the world of business currently to discuss their perceptions and experiences to NJCU students!

Robert is the Managing Principal in the law firm of Margulies Wind, P.A. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey (1975), New York (1980), Massachusetts (1977), the United States Supreme Court and the Second and Third Circuit Courts of Appeals. He maintains a full-service law practice with concentration on litigation, commercial matters, dispute resolution and Appellate practice. He has also developed an active mediation and arbitration practice. He is the managing member of The Resolution Group, a high-level Alternative Dispute Resolution practice. A member of the American and New Jersey State Bar Associations, Mr. Margulies is a Past President of the Hudson County Bar Association, a former Master of the Hudson American Inn of Court, a former Master of the Family Law American Inn of Court and Founder, Executive Director and Past President of the Justice Marie L. Garibaldi American Inn of Court for Alternative Dispute Resolution. He serves on the Supreme Court of New Jersey Complementary Dispute Resolution Committee. Mr. Margulies formerly Chaired the NJSBA Dispute Resolution Section and Executive Committee of the State Bar General Council, as well as a past President of the Association of County Bar Presidents. He served for 7 years on the NJSBA Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee.

Welcome to another engaging episode of Connecting Bridges and Borders! Today we have a very awesome guest from the world of Martial Arts! Please welcome 10th Degree Black Belt, Grand Master Joe Corley. Joe Corley is one of the reasons that marital arts and kick boxing came into the world of professional sports in the United States in the 1970s. In this episode we discuss his involvement in the world of marital arts and how he came to be the owner of the Professional Karate Association (PKA). Joe Corley is truly an American Icon.
He was featured in Black Belt Magazine:
"As a fighter, Joe Corley won three United States Championships in point karate and went on to retire as the number one ranked MiddleWeight Contender in the world. Mr. Corley has taught more than 40,000 men, women and children in his chain of Atlanta studios.
As a black belt in Tang Soo Do and tae kwon do, he opened Atlanta’s first full time karate studio in 1967 while he was still competing and expanded the studios to become the most well known martial arts chain in the Southeast. In 1970, Joe Corley founded the BATTLE OF ATLANTA, now considered one of the most prestigious open karate tournaments in the world, which celebrated its Golden Anniversary in 2018.
Mr. Corley also became the voice for American Karate on national television, where he produced the programming from the announcer position and did commentary with long-term friends like Chuck Norris and Pat Morita on NBC, CBS, ESPN, SHOWTIME, USA NETWORK, SPORTS CHANNEL AMERICA, PRIME NETWORK, SPORT SOUTH and on international television syndication."

Welcome to another great episode of Connecting Bridges and Borders! This week we have a very special guest based in the Republic of Georgia! Dr. Giorgi Tsertsvadze is a professor of Law at the University of Tiblisi, co-founded for the European Business Authority (EBA) Mediation and Arbitration Center.
Professor Weiss and Tsertsvadze discuss the importance and positive results of utilizing mediation in the Republic of Georgia by outlining the culture of Georgia and its neighboring countries. Because there are so many different religions and cultural values throughout Georgia and surrounding nations, mediation plays a vital role in dispute resolution and paves the way for more harmonious relationships between peoples, groups, and regions. As Dr. Tsertsvadze explains it, “being a part of Georgia’s past and past experiences...gives us a big argument in favor of mediation.” That is to say, Tsertsvadze’s involvement in the history of business, law, and dispute resolution in Georgia has provided him the tools and experience needed to convince his peers that mediation is an incredibly beneficial business (as well as political) tool to implement in their country.

Dr. Gaurang Shah - Pediatrician with 22 years of experience He is a private practitioner based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, working for the last 22 years. He is interested in studying the symptomatology, diagnosis, and prevention of infectious diseases.
Mr. Sridhar Rajagopalan - is an educational entrepreneur often described as the person ‘who has helped change the way learning outcomes are seen in India’. He has a BTech degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras and a PGDM from IIM Ahmedabad. He co-founded Eklavya School Ahmedabad, ranked the top school in its city and state and the 15th in the country in 2017 and 2018. Sridhar co-founded Educational Initiatives Pvt. Ltd. in 2001 and is named as the first inventor of Mindspark, EI’s EdTech product as per its patent.
Sridhar has been a Board Member of Central Square Foundation, New Delhi since 2013 and a member of the Board of Trustees of Pratham Gujarat since 2002. He is a member of a number of state and central government educational committees in India and an invited speaker at various international educational conferences.

It offers ASSET, an assessment offering used by over 300,000 students across 7 countries annually. Mindspark is used by over 100,000 students in over 100 private and government schools and featured in the July 2017 cover story edition of The Economist. Under Sridhar’s leadership, EI has conducted large scale assessments on student learning throughout India as well as in other countries of South Asia. EI has worked on multi-year projects involving hundreds of thousands of students in the states of Gujarat, Bihar, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh apart from other educational projects in many other states. Mindspark, the adaptive e-learning Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) product invented by Sridhar, featured in the Economist cover story in July 2017. Welcome to the first part of a double-episode of the Connecting Bridges and Borders discussion series! On this episode we have a close colleague of the Institute for Dispute Resolution, Professor Doel Quinones Nunez of Interamerican University School of Law down in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Currently our teams between universities are working on a collaborative mediation project called Engage Puerto Rico: A Case for Sustainable Mediation Culture.
