She is a strong proponent of holistic medicine, certified in Medical Acupuncture from UCLA, working out of her practice at the Shakthi Health & Wellness Center.
The title derives from the concept that when the body becomes imbalanced, it becomes irritated and inflamed or a “body on fire.” There is more to healing inflammation than using pharmaceuticals, so they emphasize implementing lifestyle interventions that get to the root of the problem rather than simply treating the symptoms.
In this jam-packed episode, we learn how to assess our own energy, lifestyle, diet, and mental state, as well as discover unique physical and emotional triggers, which are often precursors to illness.
Switching to a plant-based diet, improving your gut bacteria, increasing movement through yoga or exercise, adopting sleep hygiene practices, staying hydrated, and adopting a few mind-body techniques are easy-to-implement lifestyle habits that offer far-reaching benefits, such as enhanced energy, greater flexibility, better digestion,
improved mood, and less or no pain.
This knowledge is empowering and can lead to healing and enduring wellness. Body On Fire is a roadmap to a stronger, healthier, more vital state of being.

Get your vitamin D from a variety of sources to support your overall health.Vitamin D has hormone-like qualities and regulates the functions of over 200 genes. It is essential for growth and development. Over a billion people suffer from vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency.

Trauma doesn’t just reside inside your mind. Much more importantly, it locks itself in other parts of your body. These are stressful times.
As the spread of coronavirus threatens our physical health, it is also becoming a real threat to our mental health. But, talk therapy may not be enough to address the fear and anxiety many of us are experiencing.
An additional consideration is that trauma doesn’t just reside inside your mind. Much more importantly, it locks itself in other parts of your body. When left unresolved, that trauma continues to live there, impacting your life, your relationships, your sense of safety, and your ability to experience joy in very real ways.

Long-term stress can result in mental and physical exhaustion, as well as adrenal burnout. We all need a certain level of stress to enjoy life. This is called “eustress.” This is a level of stress in which we can handle.
But, ongoing stress releases a stress hormone called cortisol, which plummets our immunity. That is never a good thing, but is especially bad at this point in human history: the COVID-19 pandemic.

Studies show that anywhere from 20%–40% of perimenopausal women will experience depression.Perimenopause usually occurs between ages 35-50.
Around this age ovulation in women is more erratic and the menstrual cycle becomes irregular. This is caused by an imbalance in female hormones, estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen affects serotonin in the brain and progesterone affects a brain chemical called GABA.
Serotonin and GABA affect mood positively. A disruption in ovulation leads to a disruption in hormones, and this leads to a disruption in mood in the negative which leads to depression. Studies show that anywhere from 20%–40% of perimenopausal women will experience depression.
Signs include irritability, lack of interest in activities, fatigue, lack of motivation, excessive sleeping or insomnia, weight gain, and cravings.
