I love telling stories. I tell what some would call lies. I have always had trouble distinguishing between what happened and what might have happened. And I remain unconvinced that this distinction, for my purposes, matters. This podcast is a weekly story from my life that I tell as accurately as I see fit.
All things come to an end. This here is the final episode of What Some Would Call Lies. It's been an awesome (almost) five years. Thank you to everyone who has ever reached out via email and social networks and thanks to the rest of you lurking in the shadows.
Parents are defined as the people the beget or bring forth offspring. Cathy never beget me...but I’d still say she was like a mom.

Today is the day that I have to record, and it's already 10pm and I haven't written a word. Therefore you're getting a repeat...but don't worry, it's one of my favorite episodes. I think you'll like it.

When you work at a slaughterhouse you have to be prepared. You have to wear the proper protective gear, and you have to know that at the end of the day you may be covered in blood.
From time-to-time we all feel like we are doing the right thing...then we end up drinking three gallons of water and pissing every fifteen minutes and we have to question our approach.
Every once in a while you find yourself trapped in a hedge maze with no escape. That’s normal...right?
The relief valve is a type of valve that is used to control or limit the pressure in a system or vessel which can build up. The pressure is relieved by allowing the pressurized fluid to flow...and today I let it flow.
Don’t act like you know how to spell your name and I’m the idiot. This is probably a really common problem.
According to Buzzfeed, my super power should be melting into a puddle. But that’s bullshit.
Some situations from your childhood are hard to understand because they are clouded with lousy memory and inflated emotional recollection. Other memories are easy to recall...like taking candy from a baby...or giving him drugs.
There’s this geosocial app for smartphones that is geared towards gay men to have quick encounters with people in their vicinity and promises to deliver a hit-it-then-quit-it scenario…like something that can be wiped away with a dirty towel from the hamper and forgotten forever. But sometimes it’s not so easy to get rid of.

This summer, from the folks that brought you THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY and THE BRIDGET JONES DIARY comes a new romantic comedy that start with a man saying, “Hi. I’m Mike Lawson and I tell what some would call lies.”
Favoritism is bad. It makes the “un-favorites” feel like they are unimportant or lesser. But when you are the favorite it feels fucking good.
The question is as common as “What Do You Do?” “Are you from around here?” or “Who Would You Rather…”
Today I take on a question that I get asked too frequently and infrequently answer directly.
The harder the problem, the more likely there is more than one way to solve it, whether the problem be in math or in life.

We all have our addictions. Some are worse than others. Today I look one straight in the eyes and decide to do something about it.

Sometimes you want it so bad that nothing can stop you. Not even God herself can stand in your way.
Sometimes you meet people that make lasting impacts on your character. Sometimes you meet people that have no impact at all. And sometimes it’s somewhere in between.
This week my story has plenty of dark rooms with sunlight slicing through the Venetian blinds, alleyways littered with garbage, abandoned warehouses where dust fogs the air, rain-slicked streets, seedy detective offices overlooking bustling streets and lots of cigarettes…This is, of course, a story about when I was working with children.
Every once in a while the things that are essential just fall into your lap. Maybe it’s that the stars are aligned, maybe it’s fate…or maybe it’s just luck.
Someday I will finish writing this. Someday I will record it. And then someday you will download it. Listen to it.
Someday.
A short story this week…and I’m tempted to tell you how the next one will be better or that there were better ones in the past. But instead I’m going to stop myself and just say that I enjoyed finally getting this story together for you…
The formula has been done and done well by many others. Today I shamelessly steal the template and try to make myself sound profound by doing so.
Not everyone is perfect. I get that. Some have more going for them than others…but that doesn’t make them uninteresting.
I’m not sure why you’d think this was about anything else. Just because I’m sulking in a really dark moment of sadness, doesn’t mean that I’m also speaking in deep metaphor.
CAUTION: This episode contains content that may not be suitable for younger audiences. There are times in your life when you know who holds the power. And there are times in your life when your ass is bright pink, your pants are around your ankles, and it’s not quite so clear.
