MUSKEGON, Mich., Dec. 18, 2023 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed House Bill 4292, a supplemental budget bill today. Among the provisions in the bill was funding to relieve the outstanding school debt of Muskegon Heights Public School District. After the signing, state Rep. Will Snyder (D-Muskegon) issued the following statement:
“Never have I been more proud to work on behalf of Muskegon County than this past week. The supplemental spending bill includes over $31 million to pay off debt in the Muskegon Heights Public School District. This is a huge victory not only for Muskegon Heights, but also for all of Muskegon County. The debt has been an issue our community has been working toward solving for over a decade. Being able to erase not only the state bonded emergency debt, but also the locally bonded debt will have such a profound impact not only on the educational system, but on the ability for prosperous economic development in Muskegon Heights. This isn't merely erasing numbers; it's providing hope, empowering educators and prioritizing children.”

Michael Poulin is the front runner to win the Democratic Primary Elections for Muskegon County Sheriff. He has spent more money than any other candidate and is well liked by his co-workers. But his answer on Diversity at the Sheriff Department has us concerned. The City of Muskegon Heights is a majority black city and has a very diverse police force. They have set the example for the rest of the county. If Michael Poulin is elected we hope that his views on Diversity changes. In our opinion the County Sheriff department should be Diverse on Patrol as well as inside the Jail. This doesn't mean that the current Sheriff is the better candidate.
Eric Grimm who is running for Probate Judge in Muskegon County recently called Judge Pittman a "800 Pound Gorilla" in his email to the Muskegon Bar Association. His comments has caused an outrage at the thought of him becoming a Judge. Two paragraphs from his email is below. "“I can understand why some of the other candidates may not want to speak up about the 800-lb Silverback Alpha Male in the middle of the Probate Court. They are each considerably less free to walk away and refuse to have anything to do with this court if the bullying problem is not fixed. But that's precisely the reason why you need a willing reform candidate, and not someone who already has succumbed to the courthouse equivalent of Stockholm Syndrome, to be able to make things better. I'll confess, when I needed a record to be made for appellate purposes, of a hearing in front of Judge Pittman, and I wanted to keep him as pacified and docile as possible (which still was about as docile as a Donald Trump rally), I chose Charyn Hain from Varnum and Laura Morris from Warner to do the talking. But the real objective ought to be making certain that the law is followed and the public interest is well-served, not presupposing that we must forever walk on eggshells in probate court to avoid the wrath of the bully”.

Very few people are as talented as Andre Barnes. People in his peer group looked up to him. But, what they don't know is the life Andre had endured in his childhood.
Andre Barnes has varied experiences which make him the perfect inspirational speaker! Whatever is happening in your life or in your group, he’s probably been there, or at least knows someone who has…
Born in Muskegon Heights, MI, Barnes graduated from High School and began his twelve-year military career in 1983. As his efforts pushed him through the ranks in the Army, he was chosen to instruct Advanced Individual Training (AIT) and the Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC). This experience helped him further his natural leadership abilities, and to assist others to become powerful leaders themselves. In training others, he bolstered his own leading, which led to his receiving various awards for acts of commendations and valor.
His career in the Army set the leadership lens through which he continues to see life. In fathering of 5 children (Andrea, Kali, Jenise, Andre` Jr. and Janelle) Barnes was able to watch their stages of development and comprehension, recognizing that negativity and the hardest times come when a person feels s/he has lost the privilege to make individual decisions. His life experience has shown that this loss may reappear during life. His speaking engagements motivate listeners by empowering them with strategies to take back, recognize, and exercise their power of choice in their lives.
He is the author of two books and Senior Pastor of Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Bishopville, SC where he combines his experience, his gift of speaking, and his Associate of Theology Degree to minister the Word of God in such a way that the youngest to the eldest will leave uplifted and with an understanding of the message he has shared!
