Paul described the gospel he preached with these verbs about Christ: died, buried, raised, and APPEARED! That last verb is very important, yet is often neglected when people think of the good news. But what good news it is—not that Jesus is alive, but that Jesus is around and wants us to have an encounter with his living presence. This series will explore how real and life-changing it is when we realize that Jesus is NOW APPEARING!-----------------No matter where you are on your journey of faith, you belong here. This message explores Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus in John 3, where He offers the invitation of new birth—both as a first-time decision and a call to deeper life in the Spirit. Nicodemus, a respected religious leader, wrestles with surrendering his status and control, much like we do today. Jesus makes it clear that seeing God’s Kingdom requires more than belief—it requires fully embracing the Spirit-filled life.

Harvest Weekend is the primary way The Hills Church raises funds to support our missionaries, church plants, & partner organizations as we obey The Great Commission locally and around the world. Harvest is an important expression of our vision to “Ask for Nations and Generations.” Every dollar given to Harvest will be used to bring the nations to Jesus so that generations to come can live the Kingdom story.------------------------------------------------------------WELCOME Find a time and attend a service with us: https://thehills.org/visit NEXT STEPS Have you made a decision to follow Jesus? Jesus was a freedom fighter. He liberated people from the powers of darkness so they could become who they were created to be. So if Jesus is our rabbi, we need to be just as committed to the ministry of helping people claim “no longer slaves” status. This series explores what that looks like.

Christians will not always agree on how to best vote their faith convictions, but we can agree on the importance of following the way of Jesus during an election season. What does that look like?
This message explores the biblical concept of "The Lord is my portion," challenging us to consider whether having God alone is truly enough for us. Recognizing God as one's portion can lead to freedom from the constant pursuit of worldly accumulation and comparison, ultimately suggesting that having Christ alone should be more than sufficient for a fulfilled life.

Aligning Our Lives with God’s Holiness | Series: Holy Unto The Lord | Emmanuel Dominguez by The Hills Church
This two week series will dive deep into the profound concept of holiness - what it truly means and why it matters immensely. Week 1 will explore the essence of holiness, drawing from Scripture to define it, dispel common misconceptions, and exalt the transcendent holiness of our great God. Week 2 will then inspire us to embrace our high calling to live set-apart lives, examining how the Holy Spirit empowers us for this journey and unveiling the path to finding life's deepest fulfillment through holiness.
"If anyone is in Christ, he/she is a new creation.” Jesus is not offering to clean up the old; he is offering to enable the new. Because of his death and resurrection, the possibility now exists for us to be fully released to become who we were always meant to be, who we can be recreated to be. The old you is buried and dead. You have been born again. Welcome to You 2.O!

This sermon explores the incisive question Jesus often asked people: "What do you want?" It delves into the complexity and vulnerability of naming what we want, and it emphasizes the importance of prioritizing Jesus as the ultimate desire of our hearts. Finally, the message highlights how difficult it is to become a Christ-follower until we want Jesus most.

Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice, and they follow me.” Faithful following requires careful listening, and careful listening requires intention and training. In this series we will explore ways we can grow in our capacity to hear the voice of our Lord. Our Savior still speaks, and he still connects with those who have “ears to hear.”

The Christmas season is full of joy, but it is also full of stress. And that’s how it was when Christ was born—a time of joy and anxiety. Harvest Weekend is the primary way The Hills Church raises funds to support our missionaries, church plants, & partner organizations as we obey The Great Commission locally and around the world. Harvest is an important expression of our vision to “Ask for Nations and Generations.” Every dollar given to Harvest will be used to bring the nations to Jesus so that generations to come can live the Kingdom story.
Whenever someone declares “Jesus is Lord!”, that person has forfeited the right to decide which of Jesus’ commands they will obey and which they will ignore. To be a disciple of Jesus is to live a “must” life in a “maybe” world, and this series will examine what that looks like.WELCOME Find a time and attend a service with us: https://thehills.org/visit NEXT STEPS Have you made a decision to follow Jesus? Because of the compassion of Christ, it’s worth following Him to the passion of Christ.
There are certain questions no one else can answer for us. In Matthew 16, Jesus asks his disciples two such questions, and they are questions people still have to face today. How we answer will determine the trajectory of our entire life.
It is not bad to be rich, but so many are bad at being rich. It takes intention and wisdom to know how to be good and rich, so for four weeks we will be exploring the truths in 1 Timothy 6:17-19 to grow as faithful and joyful stewards. Not only can we use our wealth to bless others, but through generosity we can bless ourselves by taking hold of the life that is truly life!----------------------- WELCOME Find a time and attend a service with us: https://thehills.org/visit RESOURCESFor more messages in the Lets Talk About Mental Health series checkout: thehills.org/mental-healthFor counseling and taking the next step to get help checkout: https://thehills.org/counselingNEXT STEPS Have you made a decision to follow Jesus? It takes intention and wisdom to know how to be good and rich, so for four weeks we will be exploring the truths in 1 Timothy 6:17-19 to grow as faithful and joyful stewards. Not only can we use our wealth to bless others, but through generosity we can bless ourselves by taking hold of the life that is truly life!

There’s much to be gained when we listen to what Jesus said about prayer and look at how Jesus prayed: his priority on getting time with God, his teachings to encourage us in resilient prayers, and even the intimate prayers recorded in the Gospels between God the Father and God the Son. It's all there for us to experience communion with God when we follow Jesus into the secret place of prayer.

“We live in a world filled with darkness. It creeps into our lives at every opportunity – but there is hope. A Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. Through Jesus, we have been delivered ultimate victory.”

In a secular culture which has constructed meaning without God, the most important thing we can do to meet the moment is to build our lives around the presence of God. We can do this by telling stories, praying hungry, laying down, and rising up as an inter-generational army.

Jesus told a group of his followers to pay attention to what comes out of people... both in word and deed. The things we hear and see are a direct reflection of what is going into the heart of a person. Jesus wants our hearts to be full of him and gave his followers a beautiful way to overflow with goodness from him.

The story begins with a dead end. At one point or another, we all face dead ends. We get stuck. We feel trapped. We hit rock bottom. From what we see there's no way out. Then Jesus enters the story. Faith does not keep life from being hard. In fact, sometimes faith makes life harder. Christians need a conviction that the present will surrender to a glorious future. The words we use are more than tools to communicate - they have creative power. After all, creation was literally spoken into existence by God. And the God who spoke life gave us the ability to speak. Proverbs 18:21 says, "The tongue has the power of life and death." Each of us carries this power every day. Our words can fuel hope or snuff it out, build others up or tear them down, bring truth or lies, blessings or curses. It's time to discover the immense power of our words and live each day as those who speak life.-----------------------WELCOME Find a time and attend a service with us: https://thehills.org/visit NEXT STEPS Have you made a decision to follow Jesus? Is it well with your soul? For so many of us the honest answer would be "no". We have accepted as normal a way of doing life that is toxic to our inner world. But Jesus is offering a way to live that promises rest for our souls. We can redefine normal. We can take his yoke. We can be soulfull!

Merry little Christmas? Christmas is many things, but "little" is not one of them. From heaven's perspective, the coming of Jesus was the arrival of a king, the launching of a battle, and the promise of everything becoming new. In other words, Christmas was and is Cosmic. So in this series we are going to examine how Revelation interprets the birth of Christ, and we will realize just how big Christmas really is.

True faith is not abstract. The kind of faith that pleases God has stories attached to it. In this series we will look at some of the Bible's best faith stories retold in Hebrews 11. They are stories of courage, stories of resilience, stories worth remembering. And since their God is our God, our remembering can inspire us to live some faith stories of our own.

Jesus did not come so people far from God could find him, He came to find people who were far from God. There are many ways to get lost, but there is one way to be found - through the message and ministry of Jesus. And once Jesus finds you, he bids you to join Him in his search and rescue mission.

Through the Psalms we are invited into a relationship with God that reaches the full spectrum of emotions: the highs and lows, the peaks and the valleys. There is no feeling we are not allowed to express before God in our prayers and worship, because there is no part of life we are supposed to experience without God. The Psalms are a masterclass in entering God's presence with our whole selves - every ounce of joy and sorrow, grief and resolve, blessing and doubt, thanksgiving and fear. God loves all of who we are, so we don't have to hold anything back.

We serve a Jesus who experienced pain. Through Him, we can learn to process pain and experience true hope.
We’ll look at some of the barriers in hearing God’s voice along with the importance and practices of hearing and the posture to respond to what we hear.
We work more hours, have access to everything, and view busy as important. Yet, if you look in scripture you will see rest is a CENTRAL way God plans for us to thrive.
This message looks at a time where a sinful woman interrupts a Pharisee’s dinner to get to Jesus. And it is here that Jesus offers new perspective to every person at the meal.
God did not start being God when you started being human. He has history with humanity and His faithfulness is written on every page.
The brokenness of our world leaves us longing for something more. The truth is we are longing for someone, his name Jesus.
Jesus' gospel is not just the offer of salvation, but the declaration of sovereignty. This is the clear message of His Sermon on the Mount. It is a call to find the truly blessed life by taking a narrow path most won't choose - the way of King Jesus.

Chaos and conflict keep showing up. Power struggles ensue. Wars break out. It's hard to believe anyone is really in charge. The Easter story declares that someone has a legitimate claim to authority. Someone can bring calm in the chaos. Someone can bring peace to the conflict. Someone can command what's dead to come back to life. And if that's true, it changes everything.

And Paul knows the fruits of faith, joy and love grow when a disciple is firmly grounded in all that Jesus is. So he calls on believers then and now to go deeper in Christ…to be Rooted.

Strength is both a grace and a choice. It is a gift from God, and it is a pursuit of those who live in fellowship with God. The Bible tells us to be strong in the Lord, and this series will explore how we can receive the gift and make the choice.

We have all suffered losses these past two years, but the most painful losses of all involve relationships. It is hard to be happy when our core relationships are not healthy. So as we enter the holiday season, perhaps it is time for a reset. Perhaps it is time to give peace a chance.
Harvest Weekend is the primary way The Hills Church raises funds to support our missionaries, church plants, and partner organizations as we pursue The Great Commission locally and around the world. This message from one of our church planters, Kenny Hart, from The Gathering Harlem takes a look at Matthew 9:35-38 where Jesus said, "The harvest is great, but the workers are few."
When God grants a victory it is not only a time to celebrate, it is also a time to commit to generosity so more victories can come.
Nehemiah knew that the real goal was not to build a wall, but to build a people. He led the nation to recommit to obeying God's Word and "living differently" for the sake of their future.
Before Nehemiah could build a wall he had to build a team. He did so by calling a diverse community to unite behind a common vision. He made sure there was a place for everyone to participate in the great work God had given them to do.
"New" wears off quickly, especially when opposition, hardship, and exhaustion arise. But the goal of the visionary is not to start; it is to finish.
Before Nehemiah could build a wall he had to build a team. He did so by calling a diverse community to unite behind a common vision. He made sure there was a place for everyone to participate in the great work God had given them to do.
Nehemiah prayed believing God would open a door, and when that door opened he was prepared. People of vision expect God to create opportunities, and they expect those opportunities to be of the "all things are possible with God" variety. This teaching will remind the congregation God wants to see great things done in His name, and that we must believe and strategize for those God-created opportunities.
We are beginning a new five-year vision to Ask for Nations & Generations with 40 days of prayer. Learn more at nationsandgenerations.org and subscribe to the Nations & Generations podcast to follow along.
The first thing Nehemiah did when he heard of the bad shape of the walls of Jerusalem was pray. Prayer should always be the first response, not the last resort. If prayer is not necessary to accomplish the vision, then the vision is not big enough to honor God. This message will challenge the church to ASK for nations and generations. A forty-day prayer guide will be made available in different formats to call our church to a season of focused, united prayer.
The mission is non-negotiable: make disciples. But God gives each church a unique vision of how they are going to pursue the mission. In these two messages Rick will share what that vision looks like for The Hills Church for the next five years. It is time to “Ask for Nations and Generations!”

We’ve lost a lot in these last 18 months, but what are we willingly sacrificing because of our relationship with Christ? It’s good to evaluate our priorities as we answer the call to follow Jesus.
Drew Sherman is the pastor of Compass Church. He came to bring a powerful message on learning how to listen.
It is true that people need the gospel, but it is also true that the gospel needs a people. The church is absolutely essential to Jesus' strategy of sharing good news with the world. The church doesn't need a mission as much as the mission needs a church.
Jesus never called anyone to follow Him alone. Discipleship is a team sport. It is impossible to grow in Christ-likeness apart from community. This sermon will explain how essential membership in the body is to our becoming more like Jesus.
One of the first things the earliest Christians did was devote themselves to fellowship. Believers are belongers. This lesson will explore how critical a spiritual family is to the health of one's faith.
Sometimes we forget that the church is Jesus’ idea. In this sermon we will be reminded that Jesus started the church, uses the church, and loves the church. The church matters to us because it matters to Jesus.
God's reconciling work in our lives mirrors the design of a cross - both vertical and horizontal.
The cross is more than a means God used to save His people. It is also the method God uses to mature and shape His people because anyone called into God's kingdom is called to live in light of the story of the cross.
Was God just sending a message through the cross, or did something actually happen? Ask a Christian that, and they'll probably say something like, "Jesus died in my place" or "Jesus was the perfect sacrifice" or even "Jesus defeated sin." But do we understand how statements fit in God's story and in our own stories?
The biggest theme of Christian mission is also the biggest obstacle to its warm reception. But in the subversive message of the cross, God makes His power known.
We serve a God that is alive, active & speaking to people all over the world. So why is it that we live as if our God is dead, distant and silent? God wants to encounter you, but he doesn't stop there. He wants you to be a walking encounter for others.
You are capable of enduring more than you think you can, and it’s not for nothing. God is working to grow you through anything and everything you endure. Don’t quit.
Habakkuk understood that through worship and praise we learn how to remain loyal to God because of who He is, not just because of what He does. Through worship we get a glimpse of a God who is bigger than our questions.
Habakkuk believed in the sovereignty of God. He trusted God even though it didn't make sense. He knew God could put an end to the evil around him, but evil was still there. So he asked God "How long?".
Habakkuk was sure of the existence of God, and he was also sure of the character of God. But he could not understand why God allowed so much evil in the nation he loved. He asked God "why?"

Easter is not about reset, it's about rebirth. It's not an opportunity to go back to what was, it's an invitation to lean into what ought to be.
The first half of Mark's Gospel has been swirling around one main question: Who is Jesus of Nazareth? In this pivotal scene, we get an answer that the disciples only half understand.
True religion is not designed, it's received. It is a submission to sacred scriptures, observance of sacraments, and participation in community that observers can encounter God.
When Jesus spoke of traditions he referred to beliefs and practices outside the scripture, not inside the scriptures. The idea that man was made for tradition needs to be second-guessed.
Jesus always viewed reality through the lens of a greater reality by bringing God into the equation. This is why he second-guessed most understanding of what might be possible.
Even though we don't like to think about death, life has a way of bringig up the subject. For Jairus, that meant he had to decide who he was going to second-guess.
When Jesus first encounters religious leaders, their second-guessing gets at the heart of who Jesus is and what He has authority to give.
It was instant success, at least from the disciple's perspective. Jesus' first followers were also the first to question the priorities of his mission.
God tells us to make disciples in every nation and tell the next generations of his mighty power and majesty. Today we will hear how that relates to the next vision of The Hills Church.
We all live with the reality of anxiety, is it possible to live with peace instead of panic? Paul teaches us how to win the battle of the mind by changing the way we think about a challenge.
When Paul was in prison he learned that keeping calm is a determination not a destination. He learned that his strength comes from the Lord.
Writing from prison, Paul insists that we have spiritual resources that we can use to Keep Calm. We do not have to live trying to stay afloat in a sea of anxiety.
The Bible teaches us that the presence of anxiety is optional. Jesus teaches us how to live with anxiety by looking to Him.
John referred to himself as the disciple Jesus loved. How would it change your life if you realized you are God’s favorite?
If you could change one area of your life that would transform all others, would you do it? This message details why your life moves in the direction of your strongest thoughts, and how to make 2021 a great year.
As we evaluate 2020, let’s see how well we kept our focus and love on God and use this as motivation moving into 2021. Our love for God sets the foundation for how we live our lives.
"Christ" is not Jesus last name, it is perhaps his most important title. It is the Greek form of the Hebrew word "Messiah", and it was given to Jesus as soon as he was born.
This has been a year where we have all had to deal with isolation of some sort. However, we have assurance from the name Immanuel that "God is with us". We are never truly alone.
The child Mary carried would be given many titles, but he was only given one name. It was an ordinary and common name that is not even unique in scriptures. But it was uniquely chosen for Mary's baby.
You live differently when you realize that the maker of the universe is with you in your valley and mountain top seasons. The God who spoke the solar system into existence tells you "I am with you" today.
2020 has been a hard year for us. Life in this pandemic has been hard! This difficult season has left many of us feeling like we are not ok! During difficult times such as this, it is easy to feel like God has abandon His people, when in fact God has spoken the contrary to sus Christ and He has it's ok, not to be ok!
2020 has been an incredibly difficult year. With difficult circumstances all around things can sometimes feel hopeless. But because of Jesus, we can Choose Hope anyway whether we see better days coming or not.
Celebrating what God has done through the 2020 Vision of our church. For 15 years this vision has given direction to our mission to make and grow followers of Jesus. We are taking a moment to look back will fill us with great anticipation as we look ahead.
It's amazing how little effort it takes on our part to be such a huge blessing in someone else's life.
God chooses to relate to all people through promise and faith. A promise is God's will and power to create a new future out of a barren past. Faith is the capacity to embrace and act on that announded future with such passion that one must move in its direction.
Natural law cannot restrict our God from intervening when and how He chooses. God can do anything consistent with who He is and what He wants done.
We can find joy and peace in hard seasons by putting our faith and hope in someone that remains unchanging, God, the great I AM.
It's possible to engage the political process in a way that opens doors for our witness of Christ rather than closing them.
During this political season our allegiancer is to Jesus alone, our King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Division seems ever present - but just as present is the solution Jesus offers. Jesus offers unity. But what does that actually look like? In this series out of Romans 12, we'll talk about the unity Jesus offers and what God's people living God's way looks like in the messy, everyday stuff of doing life together.
Healthy Christian community makes no place for personal pride, but shows us a better way to see ourselves and others.
Division seems ever present these days - but just as present is the solution Jesus offers.
We can sometimes resist the idea of submission because in our culture we rightly view men and women as equals. But Paul says followers of Christ should choose mutuality of service and surrender.
Our culture puts a lot of emphasis on picking wisely when it comes to marriage, but couples quickly learn that marriage is a lifetime of choices that determine health and happiness. This series will explore the big decisions that followers of Jesus must regularly make to build a marriage that thrives.
We can sometimes resist the idea of submission because in our culture we rightly view men and women as equals. But Paul says followers of Christ should choose mutuality of service and surrender.
For married couples the most important question is "What does God want"? Marriage is a lifetime of decisions to say yes to one thing and no to another. Marriage is God's idea, so it should be a big deal to us.
Paul reminds us that even when so much has been lost, diminished or locked down, love is essential.
Paul insists that disciples of Christ can control their outlook even when they cannot control the outcome. He see joy as a rest of choice rather than a result of chance.
While Paul was in prison he chose to focus on his abundance in Christ. He resisted the enemy's effort to make him forget his true wealth. And the more he reflected, the more he exclaimed, "Thank God for God!"
The apostle Paul was a church planter who traveled the world. When he was unable to go anywhere for several years after being arrested he discovered that there is still life!
From the beginning of Jesus' ministry, he is proving himself as our champion. He is winning everywhere we tend to lose. He overcomes temptation in the desert. He isn't crushed by rejection in his hometown. And he heals everyone in Galilee of both spiritual and physical sickness. These three bouts in Luke 4 will build our faith and confidence in a God who is undefeated. So no matter what it looks like right now, we know what is eternally true. And in any of these areas where we are losing the fight - God offers us two things 1) grace because Jesus already won for us and 2) the very Spirit that empowered Jesus to win.

There is a desire deep within all of us to have "a place". As followers of Jesus we long for our place, the new earth that will be our home when Jesus returns.
A healthy faith is comfortable not only facing hard, challenging questions, it's also comfortable saying "I don't know" to some of those questions.
We often think of something missing as being a problem, but it's also true that something missing can be the solution. When the new earth comes, one of the best things about it will be the things that won't be coming with it. We will delight in what is missing from home.
Most people believe afterlife more than the resurrection. This viewpoint is influenced more by Greek philosophy than in scripture. Our destiny is not non-earth; it is new earth.
The phrase "Go to heaven" is not mentioned anywhere in the Bible. There are mentions of desiring to go and be with the Lord, but when it comes to heaven, we are mentioned as the ones waiting for its arrival. What if heaven is a place on earth?
God wanted a blessing spoken over his people. But what's the point of a blessing? What if it's more than just a religious "raise your glass" moment? This ancient blessing gives us a glimpse into God's Nature and God's favor.
Have you ever had someone tell you something that was absolutely useless? For some a study of heaven is that way. But the earliest Christians did not share that opinion. The would doubt it your view of heaven was biblical it it wasn't practical.
Feeling the tension of having to adjust to our current reality while longing for a different reality is not new for followers of Jesus.
Only three questions ultimately matter:where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? We are beginning a series to explore the Christian answer to the third question. We contend that Jesus has a unique authority to speak with certainty about the here and the hereafter.
It doesn’t matter where you here the good news of Jesus’ resurrection; it matters where you look after your hear it. Easter is a call to “get your hopes up"!
As Paul comes to the last of his letter, he brings us back to what's of first importance.
There is something about the bent of human nature - the Bible calls it "the flesh" - that requires laws and punishments before it will do what it ought to do. and because that is true, rules-based religion will always have some appeal.
Freedom is a special gift that should only be surrendered for the good of others. Often we are encouraged to give up our freedom by following rules and laws. But the gospel teaches us that we have been freed, once and for all.
The book of Galatians is wrestling with the issue of family--who can rightly consider themselves to be the children of God.
In the book of Galatians Paul argues strongly that all attempts to supplement Christ by trying to help God do what only God can do, results in replacing Christ. The written Word has one purpose: to lead us to faith in the living Word.
We may not always recognize what a good thing we have in the gospel until we are in a place where it is missing.
Technology is a gift from God. And while our screens can be wonderful tools, they are terrible masters. In this series, we will talk about life and faith in the digital age.

Today I am giving the final recap message regarding the 2020 Vision of our church. For 15 years this vision has given direction to our mission to make and grow followers of Jesus. Taking a moment to look back is going to fill us with great anticipation as we look ahead.
Giving generously is a necessary step of discipleship. We should talk about it and live it.
Generosity is genius because Jesus said it is the path to blessing. Through it we bless others.
Generosity is genius because Jesus said it is the path to blessed? ...God, others and me!
The new year is another opportunity to dream about our future, but we may discover that God has dreams for us - just like a farmer named Elisha.
Jesus will be with you in form of the Holy Spirit until he returns to take you home with Him to the Heavenly Father.
In this Christmas series we will add some "extras" to the nativity scene-people who play an important role in the Christmas story yet rarely get the attention they deserve. This week we will look at Simeon and Anna.

We all love to add some extra decorations at the Christmas season. This series wants to add some extra characters to the Christmas story who can add some needed “extras” to our own faith journey.
Jesus promises us another Advocate. The Holy Spirit will reside in us forever. He will never leave. So how do we help cultivate that relationship to bring us the most comfort, encouragement and strength.
There is no Kingdom Come unless the King comes back. Because of this, Christians remind one another of a shared eternal hope. Why is Jesus coming Back?
In Jesus' last conversation with his disciples he mentioned leaving ten times. None of the disciples wanted Jesus to leave, and not one single moment did Jesus think about staying. Somehow his leaving was connected to more of the Kingdom coming.
Jesus didn't come because he had nothing better to do, but because there was nothing better he could do. He came to seek and to save...those are his words.
Many people struggle with the tipic of judgment. "Judgmental" represents the worst attitudes in Christianity. So what do we need to know Jesus says judgment?
Jesus never wondered why he came. His life started on mission, stayed on mission and ended on mission. He never wondered what he was doing there.
Some issues have a greater capacity to divide families more than others, such as politics, sports loyalties, money isses. Jesus can be included in this category.
What happens when the Kingdom comes in ways that make us wonder if it's really the Kingdom at all? John prophesied that God's Messiah, His chosen One, was coming to establish his kingdom. He can help answer that question.

When Jesus came the first time he healed the sick, cast out demons, and even raised the dead. Even so, some doubted he was the King of Kings. When he comes back the second time there will be no doubt that he is THE KING!
Not too small to be seen, by Chris Hatchett, Southlake Campus Minister, Southlake, Texas
Why did Jesus come? We are going to let him tell us. But to understand why he came we must first understand who he is.
Justice. Mercy. Humility. Repeat! What God wants is not complicated, but it is not easy either. That's because we do not live in a world that focuses first on others.
It is easy to drift towards blurred vision, including in the arena of faith. The pursuit of clarity must be intentional to keep focusing on the values God has said we should focus on.
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8. Focusing on justice is what God does every day.
Clarity and alignment are absolutely critical for any church. No amount of effort can overcome a lack of clarity.
In the beginning, God was personally present with the people He created. The rest of the story of God and His people carries the theme of presence, from the tabernacle to the temple to Jesus and now to the church. The question is, where is God personally present now?
Fire is a consistent sign of God's presence in the Old Testament. The burning bush. The fire on Mt. Sinai. The fire of the Lord on Mt. Carmel. And then on the day of Pentecost, tongues of fire symbolizing the presence of God's Spirit.
At the Feast of Tabernacles, water was ceremonially poured out in remembrance of God's faithfulness and in expectation of His Spirit bringing renewal to Israel. That is the very moment Jesus chooses to make an open invitation and a bold claim.
The Hebrew word ruach can be translated "spirit, breath or wind". And throughout the Old Testament ruach is used for all three. God's Spirit inspired (which, by the way, means breathed life into) the Scriptures to make a connection between the Spirit of God and the very breath we need to live.
The Holy Spirit can be hard to understand. So when the Spirit inspired the writers of the Bible, He included self-portraits - visual portrayals of the invisible Spirit of God. Understanding these visuals - a dove, water, fire and others -can provide insight into how God's Spirits works in and transforms Christians today.
The Old Testament tells more stories on David than any other character, and it doesn't skip any pages. His wins and his losses are all recorded, which must have created a stimulation debate when he was eligible for the faith hall of fame.
How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and all the prophets!
History has a way of repeating itself. God knows this, so in His Word we can find repeated failures right alongside his repeated faithfulness. Numbers chapter 20 includes a prime example.
From the very beginning the Bible establishes the need for epic grace. And that is especially clear in the account of Judah's failure resume.
In this series Rick explores some of the values in our culture that compete for the place only God deserves. You will be challenged to ask if you are truly seeking first His Kingdom.

Outside of Jesus, it could be argued that no figure in the Bible is more important than Abraham. His call, his walk, and his trust are referred to throughout scripture as an encouragement in our own journey of faith. All fellow pilgrims will be strengthened by a greater knowledge of his life.

Saved but bound? This seems to be the reality of many Christians. They have been raised to new life in Christ, but are still enslaved to thoughts and habits of their old life. But the gospel isn’t just a message of forgiveness; it’s a message of freedom. Let’s not settle for anything less than Alive and Free!

Repetition is a theme throughout the psalms. The praises of God ring out like the delay on a guitar pedal, day after day, psalm after psalm. Keep This On Repeat is a look into the Bible’s playlist, where we find a rhythm in prayer, worship, and hope. More than that, we’ll see how Jesus exemplifies how to do all three and how Jesus embodies the answer to our prayers, the object of our worship, and the source of our hope.

Some understand the Bible as if grace never existed until Jesus came along and convinced God to become a Christian. In Truth it is a story of epic grace that revealed itself in the most epic of fails.
We all have memories of our failures, and some of them were epic. The good news is that God’s grace is even more epic. This series will remind us that God is better at forgiving and fixing than we are at failing.
Let's be a congregation that is intentional about pursuing God's multi-ethnic dream for the church.
In order to learn and grow, we need opportunities to hear from others and see a new perspective. And on top of that, we need a willingness to listen even when the truths are hard to hear.
Being Spirit-filled means being able to love beyond our imagination and speak the language of those we've been called to reach.
We can be intentional about pursuing locally what we are already practicing globally if we are the witness of peace among brothers and sisters that opens doors to a message about peace with the Father.
Everyone has an opinion about race relations, and most are willing to share it. Why shouldn’t followers of Jesus join the conversation? God’s Word, Jesus’ example, the Spirit’s leading—we have a lot to bring to the table. This series is intended to help Christians think, live, and speak a better word when the talk is about race.
