Well, here we are — it’s Election Day. In just a few hours, we’ll start to get a sense of the winners and losers. Sooner or later, we’ll know who the next president is. And no matter who it is, about half the country is going to be pretty upset.
Tomorrow is Election Day – that’s what the calendar says. But there are two problems with the term "Election Day."
No. 1, we now have many election days, because people have been voting for weeks. No. 2, we have developed this expectation that, in addition to being Election Day, it should also be the day we find out who won.
And this is at the heart of the crisis of trust that we’re going through.
I am a dad. That means I worry almost constantly about our kids.

This time next week, we should have some sense of where the election is going. Instead of polls, we will be looking at the ballots counted thus far. With it being so close to election day, it might be time to brush up on some things we seem to have forgotten lately.
It’s a feeling I hadn't experienced in years. I started breathing faster, my heart raced and I just had this sinking feeling. Then it hit me: I was having anxiety. Election-related anxiety. This has never happened to me. And you know the craziest part? It wasn’t directly about the presidential candidates.
You see, over the weekend, like a lot of people, I had consumed social media, news and advertisements.
Over the summer, the Department of Homeland Security issued a warning that was both alarming and, unfortunately, necessary. Election agencies across the nation were cautioned about emerging threats to destroy ballot drop boxes — a cornerstone of our democratic process that enables millions of Americans to exercise their right to vote safely and conveniently.

People say they hate negative political ads, but the reality is conflict is the soul of drama, and negative ads work. They can make you hate anything.
In just two weeks, we’ll start seeing the first wave of election results roll in, giving us a pretty good idea of who our next group of elected leaders will be. It’s a big moment after months of campaigning, debates and all the talk.
But honestly, I’m feeling a bit worn out.

So when King County dug into its pocket and pulled out $2 million dollars last week to help house dozens of asylum seekers and refugees in Tukwila – I took pause.
It’s the latest instalment in the saga of the Riverton United Methodist Church that open its grounds last year to asylum seekers from Venezuela – at first the church didn’t reject anybody – but word got out – others started camping on their grounds – it got overwhelming.
Supporters begged elected officials for help – to solve a problem of their making.
The City of Seattle had already stepped in with 100’s of thousands of dollars for hotel rooms – Now the County is handing out $2 million more.
I’m not heartless person – and people truly seeking a better life need help – but I expect elected officials to be good stewards of our hard-earned tax dollars – and ask questions before digging deep into our collective pocket and hand out millions.
Maybe their being compassionate – just like my pastor friend.
But when it comes to our money – elected official’s ‘compassion’ needs to held accountable – how that money is being used – and being used wisely. Their track record is not that great.

For the first time in my life, I flew First Class. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bragging about having ‘John Curley’ levels of income. I bought the ticket 4 weeks in advance a few days after the Boeing ‘huge gaping hole in the plane at 10,000 feet’ incident, when no one was flying. Because of this, the price was roughly $200.00. To be totally honest, it was amazing – my flight was delayed by an hour, when I went to the gate to check on the status of the flight, the gate attended offered me a dinner voucher in the airport to ease my dismay and distress.
On the flight, I noticed that the tray table was located in the armrest of the seat and could be deployed by pulling a simple lever. I was offered a beverage in a glass. When I was offered the selection for my in-flight meal, the flight attended said ‘Would you like the protein or the fruit and cheese plate?” I asked which one he liked, and he replied, “I will bring you both,’ which he promptly did and both were amazing. But wouldn’t more people fly more, and more often, if it was at least a pleasant experience, instead of an exercise in self-administered torture? I think so.
