Welcome back, explorer, to another chapter of cultural exploration on Juan Around, your digital passport to untold stories and immersive experiences. In this episode, we embark on a journey to Bulgaria, uncovering a tradition that intricately weaves death, memory, and the soul of small-town streets.
Picture this: sheets of paper delicately scattered across Bulgarian towns, each bearing the weight of printed announcements and the lingering memory of a life lived. These are the enigmatic necrologs, not mere ephemeral tributes but enduring markers that shape the cultural landscape.
Join me as I dive into a conversation with Emiliya Karaboeva, the researcher behind "Death and Memory in the Context of the Contemporary Bulgarian Street-Posted Obituary," exploring the cultural significance and lasting impressions of necrologs.
Seeking more context on necrologs? Check juanaround.com.
As always, I am eager to hear your thoughts—connect with me on social media or leave a comment on my website.
Enjoy the episode!

If you feel that you are getting tired of the #news, you are not alone. But what happened? Today I explain to you how the #media decayed thanks to social media
=====
They promised us a society of information, not knowledge, and they were right to make that distinction.
At the end of 1999, the excitement of Internet 2.0 was palpable. A digital space where “everybody can publish whatever they want” sounded fantastic and fair. However, it seems that the tools are amazing, but we are not ready for them. The revival of flat-earthers or holocaust deniers are only the most loudly examples of it.

A review of the implementation of woke culture by the US military
=====
2021 brought a new mentality to the US military. What can be described as woke culture has, in a way, taking over. Wokeness is hard to describe, and it is even harder to dissociate from political ideologies. Although it has its roots in a sense of awareness about racial prejudice, discrimination, and social inequality; now it is something that you can identify when you see it, but you cannot quite explain. Social justice warriors and political correctness are some of its representations.

Hello and Welcome to Juan Around. We have an episode of Tales from the Newsroom. Stories based on real experiences and published articles during my time as a journalist. Now, we have the story: Narco Christmas.
=====
I remember it was a Monday. I remember because I opened a new bottle of Daniels, which used to happen every first day of the week.
The year was 2011, so working as a journalist was a little bit more than checking Twitter besides our phones were shitty pieces of plastic with one or two functions and no more.
One of such functions was, believe it or not, receiving calls. My photographer called me about a new "muertito", another dead found almost outside of the city. 7 am, damn, fuck you, Sergio. Then again, death sells.

No guest today. It is a little difficult to find someone that speaks English to talk about Mexico, especially during the pandemic. Today I am in Mexico, in a city called Cuernavaca, and I go around the challenges of staying still or the advantages of being a nomad if you like. Enjoy it!

Most of the people relate danger, specifically if they think in Mexico, with violence so let's focus on that specific type of danger: violence. How much violence can you face if you travel to Mexico but more important, and that is what is this podcast about, what is the reality behind the tourist zones, the margaritas, and the parties. How real Mexicans live this violence?

Mexico is full of stories. Sadly, many about violence. I arrived in Mexico less than a month ago and a friend told me a story that makes me think about my country's problems on a deeper level.
The story is about a guy that got married. As part of the tradition in rich Mexican families, the bride gives to the groom a new watch so, in the case of this guy, it was a 15-thousand-dollar watch. He went on his honeymoon with a beautiful and expensive watch on his wrist and he came back without it, two guys robed him.
This episode is not about the violence in Mexico (that episode will come later this season), this episode is about something more complex: Why we like expensive shit?!

Cheating, polyamory, the entropy of the universe, and more. A talk with Mustafa in Safronbolu.
Full disclosure, Mustafa did not know I was recording but he suggested before that we should record it, so I just did it without telling him. Later I confessed and ask him for permission to publish this episode.
