Mike Bolante's Transmission: Recent Episodes

Mike Bolante

Mike Bolante is a DJ/Producer working out of Manila, Philippines. He had his early education in music in classical piano and listening to Michael Jackson, New Order, Informational Society, Depeche Mode, and U2. Simple as it may seem, this performer carries with him an impressive pedigree.

Just like most people in the industry, Mike Bolante started as a DJ, working small parties. He then decided to venture into production working with NYC legend, Ray Roc AKA The Roc Project. He managed his label, ROCit Records, which came out with hits such as Never featuring Tina Arena, Playboy Anthem, Jungle Kisses and many more.

He then went on his own to earn his stripes in one of the cities that is most populated with DJs and is in fact, THE BIRTHPLACE of HOUSE, Chicago. Toiling for 6 years in the scene, he was exposed to HOUSE as Chicago defines it. He worked with local superheroes such as Michael Serafini, Cz Mirani, Miguel Castro, Gene Farris, Andre Harris, Maurice Joshua, Bill Basil, Lego, Bad Boy Bill, JJ Flores, Kalendr, Inphinity, NORDjs, John Curley.

He also discovered his love for Techno and Tech House working for Dino Gardiakos at his world renowned club, Spy Bar. Exposed to sophisticated sounds of Shlomi Aber, Steve Lawler, Loco Dice, Audiofly, Paco Osuna, and many more, his passion for these genres and Chicago house show in his productions, even in commercial remixes.

To date, Mike is no longer the newbie he once was but a veteran that can play almost any genre with his own swagger and identity. His genuine love for music drives him to do music on his own terms. This is what we call PASSION and he has it and will never lose site of it.

These are some favorites I dug up from yesteryears. Some of them, I have forgotten, some of them are favorites that I drop in my sets currently.

Side B shows my fascination for current dance music. It's amazing how a lot of new music have been influenced by old hits, genres and even classical music. We have definitely come a long way.

AMAPIANO (which means "THE PIANOs" in Zulu) Amapiano is a subgenre of house music that emerged in South Africa in the mid 2010s. It is a hybrid of deep house, jazz and lounge music characterized by synths and wide percussive basslines.Got fixated to this as of late as I have been listening to Dave Nunes (check him out I swear... you can never go wrong.) a lot. A good way to kick back and relax. Newbie to all of this and easing myself in by playing remixes of mainstream tracks.

After more than a decade and a half of doing this. I know how to read the crowd much more the ones in Poblacion. So I base it on what is the venue’s programming and the crowd I have in front of me. My first love is house but clearly I have evolved from then and can now even play open format proudly. So I try to mix it up without compromising what the venue wants. Poblacion is the epitome of diversity, a melting pot. That's why I love this place so much!

Recently, people have asked me what I have been playing as of late in Poblacion. It's an ecclectic mix of genres both underground and mainstream. Never really put myself in a box and just play what I feel like and watch the crowd. Poblacion, along with Chicago and LA are the places I love djing in. Just absolutely fantastic! Here is the first of this series of mixes I will be putting out about this legendary community.

For the past 2 decades, dance music has been the Soundtrack of my Life. My memories of clubbing has been in every facet of it.... As a patron... a DJ... a Promoter... a club manager... and some of my most memorable experiences are in it. Here are a few of favorites to play and listen to. I know most people of my generation will agree these were very very very memorable years!

Here is Side B. Eclectic and sophisticated just like Poblacion. Just like our Facebook Group, playing these tracks made me pretend I was in Z Street just getting lost in the people and the music. Much Love my peeps! Side B for you!

Been fortunate to have gone to so many places to listen to music, dance and be merry. So I am creating a new series of my favorite places to go and make some sort of a soundtrack to it.... Not just one but two! SIDE A and SIDE B. Side A being the old school and Side B is me keeping up with the Joneses!First up is Poblacion. I love this place. It is a newer version of what used to be in Malate. It has an ecclectic scene of music, restaurants and people. Far more sophisticated than any other scene in the country. It also has been a melting pot of not only cultures but also beliefs. I miss this place. It was a place that you can certainly be yourself and let loose. Here's to my peeps in Poblacion. Much love and I will see you soon!

Beach Anthems back in the late 90s and the early 2000s. So many memories. That was fun. These songs brought so much of those memories back. So vivid were these memories, that each song made me smile and remember!

If you were a child of the 90s, you would love these songs I mixed and most likely reminisce! Happy listening!

Another request for Disco. I was fortunate to grow up in a household filled with music. I was able to listen to a number genres including Disco. It's no secret that I drop disco tracks here and there in my sets. Well here's another one with full on disco but the difference is I got to end it with OPM tracks from The Boyfriends, VST and Hotdog. These people paved the way for the artists of today. It's amazing they created a sound which is coveted today and they did it the old fashioned way, LIVE!

Nothing like being in your 20s, carefree, having fun. This was also the time I discovered clubbing. Although I loved music and knew about djing but it wasn’t a passion as it is now.

Clubbing was just so much fun… It was fun because of friends. All the parties, the laughter, the embarassment… I can truly say it was what made it worthwhile… making all those memories…

This is for all my friends back in the day… Was listening to a lot of these tracks while biking and it made me reminisce of our days at Porch, Venezia, Stars, ABGs, Mars, Euphoria, Ponti… I know there are many more… Know that I cherish those memories still. I celebrate our friendship of more than 20 years!

It's been awhile since I came out with a mix. Here's a new one with a genre that is niche but catchy. I am a big fan of the Artful Dodger and this is where I learned about Garage, specifically UK Garage. It became so big that the music influenced dance music in the US and even some House music releases. I love listening to these catchy and bouncy tunes. I hope you enjoy the music as much as I enjoy mixing them.

I have done this before... a mix that features all disco. Maybe not as obscure as Scott K. but disco nonetheless. Gotta thank him for my influences in disco when I was in the States. Loving it as always. Locally, gotta go with Manong Boyet Sison.... but mostly, it was when I was younger with my parents having all these records and a turntable. Disco will always be close to my heart. Will always be happy to play it.

This is for my mom and pops, the young at heart, and for all those disco lovers like me.

The 90's were an awesome time for me. It was carefree. Before House, Techno and Trance, this is what was popular back then. Had great memories back then. I could remember back then these songs were playing in our cars. Some of us even have subs and would put it on blast. It's funny when I think about it, it seems like all we did were in a music video with each and every track.... each of them have a memory... a moment.

These goes to out to my fellow 90's kids out there. Guess what the kids of today listen to the same thing so we are back IN! LOL

Only when you are willing and able to do so. Thank you as always but either way I hope you enjoy the music!

It's Day 275. It's that time of the month where I celebrate being with Missy. Some people may call it cheesy but for us both, and others who are on the same boat, we celebrate these milestones as it helps us appreciate the things we often forget.... especially as time goes on.

I try to relish every moment, as our lives are at midstream. I try to live it to the fullest with Missy as every minute, every second is precious, As we are in the midst of this lockdown, it makes me realize that a lot more especially I could not be with her.

This is my soundtrack to her since we have met. It somehow tells our story and it ends with a song that I will never forget about her. Cherish and appreciate your love ones... Don't wait til its too late.

Weeks into this quarantine gave me a lot of time to reminisce about the old days. Growing up in the 80's and the 90's was a lot of fun. We didn't have the technology we had back then to keep us preoccupied, we had friends... we had each other. With that, we had a soundtrack.

All the songs you will here on this mix represents that... the emotions, the humor, the experience of it all... When you listen to this, it will not only make you groove but it will make you remember all those times back then when you were a kid in the 80s and the 90's!

So kids here you go!

Made this mix with all the free time we have. The songs here are from current indie tracks to house to R&B and ending it with a classic for everyone. People always ask me what kind of DJ I am, I just say I am a DJ. I pretty much can DJ anything. Yes, just like everyone I have my preferences but I do play what songs I feel like playing and it's pretty much across the board. After many years of playing, I not longer as conscious about what I play. I just play and like everyone else I am a fan of music. That's how I do it. There's your answer. Hope you enjoy MY SOUNDTRACK. You'll be getting a lot of it in the next few days, and weeks!

Guess what, this is also on Spotify as playlist so you can listen to each song as a single: https://spoti.fi/2wqPigf

Thanks you to all those who listened to the first two volumes. I truly enjoy making these things as it brings back great memories of how we use to party back in the day. Great music, the club and friends, how can you go wrong. I am also glad to see millennials are appreciating these old collections.

I will be changing it up for the next one but in the meantime, enjoy this one! Much love! PEACE!

As an active DJ, there are perks to being this age. One of them is being able to appreciate all the music that you have gone through the years. There is so much great music out there from our generation that I can come up with multiple venues. You got to admire the creativity and experiences of the producers during that era. Despite the limitations on technology, they come up with these HOUSE CLASSICS. Soundtrack of our lives, poeple!

Here's to you again, 90's kids!

I can feel fortunate that I grew up spending my teenage and college years in the 90's. It was a great time to be a carefree and be with friends. The music was great and honestly, we listened to music as if it were the soundtrack to our lives. Back then, I didn't know what HOUSE was and all I knew that when this played, it was something I loved listening to. Thank God for that move to Chicago but that's another story.

Here's to all the 90's kids out here! This is our soundtrack.
