The Mom Feed: Recent Episodes

Lauren Ashley Lobley

Welcome to The Mom Feed, a podcast about the transition into motherhood. I am your host, Lauren Ashley Lobley, mother to two young kids, Madison and Liam. Motherhood was “supposed” to come naturally me. It didn’t. And now I’m finally talking about it. Join me each week for real, raw, honest conversations about everything in and around what it means to become “mom.” As a woman transitions into motherhood, it creates the greatest changes in hormones and brain chemistry she’ll experience in her lifetime. It’s fair to say that among those internal changes - along with the external changes of having a new child - women need support. Welcome to your support team, ladies. Here, we tackle it all: the identity crises, the hormonal changes, the feeling like you have to be asuperhuman, the martyr complex, the balancing of work and mom life, the postpartum body changes and accepting those changes (or not!), baby proofing your relationships, discovering your parenting style - everything in and on the outskirts of what it means to become a mother, whether you came to it biologically or through some other means like fostering, adoption, surrogacy or even through marriage (yup, I see you, step mamas). Because the minute you become “mom,” life is never the same. Each week I speak with guests of all backgrounds: parenting experts, psychologists, nutritionists, physical therapists - experts of all kinds, most of whom are also parents, about the endless list of topics around motherhood. My goal is to empower you with information that will make your life easier, that will help you understand why you’re feeling the way you are, and give you permission to feel it all simultaneously. Join me for new episodes every Thursday!

Mom guilt.

Mom rage.

Mom brain.

So many terms in motherhood, most of which we didn't really understand until we were in it.

As mothers in this age, it can be really difficult to love your kids without losing yourself (and your mind!) in the process.

My guest on the show today has made it her life's work to help mothers banish guilt and beat burnout in motherhood. She just released her first book, Love Your Kids Without Losing Yourself: 5 Steps to Banish Guilt and Beat Burnout When you Already Have Too Much to do.

This is a book that every mother needs, in my humble opinion.

Dr. Morgan Cutlip, PhD in Psychology and highly sought after relationship expert, knows what it feels like to lose yourself in motherhood, and she’s determined to help mothers navigate it better.Throughout her career, she has helped hundreds of thousands of people worldwide learn how to form and maintain healthy relationships.Dr. Morgan has been a featured relationship expert with Teen Vogue, The New York Times, Women’s Health Magazine, MOPS International, Loveology, and Flo, the #1 app in health and fitness.

Today on the show, we talk about very practical things you can do to find your way back to yourself in motherhood. Spoiler alert: it's not a quick fix (and anything that promises to be is probably too good to be true).

It's a process. But a noble one at that.

Enjoy, mama!

Warmly,

Lauren

Have you ever picked up a book that you just couldn't put down?

You are exhausted and you want to go to bed, but you simply cannot stop turning the pages. And when you turn that final page, you're so sad, because it's over. But you're changed for having read it.

That is The In Between: Unforgettable Encounters During Life's Final Moments.

It's a book written by hospice nurse, Hadley Vlahos, RN.

Over her years helping patients transition from this life to whatever comes next, Hadley compiled their stories and realized that since they had left her forever changed, they would probably do the same for others.

Her social media account grew quickly as people became more and more interested about her work as a hospice nurse, and the stories of the people she has had the honor of serving in their final days, weeks and months of life.

I had the honor of interviewing Hadley about her wonderful book.

Today on the show, we discuss:

  1. Themes and advice that dying people wish they could have given to themselves earlier.

  2. faith and its role in death.

  3. How to talk to our kids about death.

And much more.

Settle in for an episode that just might change the way you live with lesson from those who have already passed on.

Much love,

Lauren

Are you concerned with fine lines and wrinkles?

Are you into clean beauty, aging gracefully, and finding a natural way to minimize those years of expression lines on your face?

If you're into quick fixes, there is surgery and Botox.

But if you're into something different - a beauty secret that's been around since 1889 but that was made famous by Renee Rousso when she touted this product to be her secret to aging gracefully in Good Housekeeping magazine - then you're going to want to know about Frownies.

As you'll hear on the show today, Helen Morrison's great grandmother invented Frownies in 1889 when she noticed that her furrowed brow was created what's become known as "11" lines in between her eyes.

Since then, Frownies have floated around as a natural beauty secret among celebrities, but they became an internet sensation just a few years ago.

Learn about how they work, how they compare to Botox and surgery, and get some of Helen's other secrets and suggestions on how to aging gracefully beyond skincare products like Frownies.

Enjoy!

When was the last time you thought about your goals?

When was the last time you wrote them down?

When I began working for lululemon in 2006, I was introduced to the world of goal setting, and as an overachiever, I was hooked on the process.

A few months into my time there, I met a woman named Susanne Conrad, a woman who would change my life. Susanne was the Director of Possibility at lululemon, and she co-developed lululemon's renowned leadership program there.

Since then, Susanne has coached thousands of leaders at hundreds of companies, including TOMS, Kit + Ace, Earls Kitchen + Bar and imagine1day.

If you've been feeling stuck in your life - particularly in motherhood - you're going to get a lot out of today's episode!

On the show today, we talk about being the author of your own story, especially the one you're currently starring in as "mother."

Susanne gives some valuable insight and exercises for you to begin stepping into the vision of what you want your life to look like, including how to deepen your presence and joy within your motherhood experience.

It's time :)

If you're a parent to a child or children between the ages of 2 and 12 years old, you're going to get a lot out of today, especially if you have children that are particularly spicy, shall we say?

You know the ones. They seem to defy what the parenting books say. They push your buttons. They push boundaries at earlier ages then seems appropriate. They hold a mirror to your wounds and traumas - most of them unhealed - and ask you dig deeper and deeper for the healing and the lesson.

They are the kids that will indeed move the world forward, but goodness gracious, they can be challenging to parenting and to hold space for.

Thank goodness for my guest on the show today, Mary Van Geffen, a parenting coach to spicy ones. She helps parents through setting and holding healthy boundaries (or not, depending on the situation), so that parent and child together can thrive in a loving, respectful and I dare say even joyful relationship.

Mary Van Geffen is an international parenting coach and parent educator for overwhelmed moms of strong-willed & Spicy Children™.

She teaches monthly workshops to help moms gain confidence to choose gentle, respectful parenting especially if they weren’t raised that way.

Mary has a ministry on Instagram where she posts an inspiring parenting tip every single day. Just reading her social media will help you delight in your child and remember that you are enough. Mary believes that when a mom realizes how hard she is on herself and cracks the door open for some self-compassion, her entire family is bathed in light!

Mary is a certified Simplicity Parenting Counselor® and Professional Co-Active Coach®. Her greatest achievement, however, is cultivating a calm, kind, and firm relationship with her spirited go-getter daughter (17), polar-opposite introverted son (15) and un-Enneagramable hubby.

If you’ve ever wondered what is at the intersectin of astrology, human design, and your life, wonder no more.

Today on the show, intuitive astrologer, mama and entrepreneur, Jessie Eccles, gives us a rundown on how you can use human design and astrology to better understand yourself and those around you.

She empowers you to understand just how your birth chart reveals who you are, and how you can use your strengths and challenges to uplevel your life.

Let’s face it – we’ll all have challenging moments in our lives. But how we face those challenges counts for everything. And if you’re equipped with the knowledge of where you shine and how you can best support yourself in times of trouble, then it’s safe to say that those challenging times won’t feel so challenging. We get into that today.

We also discuss the incredibly astrological event taking place today, Thursday March 23rd, 2023:

The shift of Pluto into Aquarius.

As you’ll learn, Pluto is about death and rebirth, and it has been in Capricorn (ruler of systems and structure) since 2008. This has looked like the crumbling of systems (think banks, government structure, educational systems – you know, that kind of thing. No big deal 🤪). With Pluto moving into Aquarius for a few months (it shifts back into Capricorn again on June 11th but then goes right back into Aquarius at the beginning of 2024), that means it’s time for innovation (Aquarius is the innovator).

We discuss that and more on today’s episode.

I don’t know about you, but motherhood goes in phases of panic and preparation. One phase informs the specifics around the panic and the preparation.

For example, you get pregnant. Then, the research begins. What prenatal vitamins should I take? What kind of birth do I want? What kind of care provider do I want? What should I put on my baby registry? All the questions, all the preparation around the nursery and the buying of the parenting books and all the things.

Then the baby comes, and you move into a new phase: why is the baby spitting up? How do I get my baby to sleep? What kind of nap schedule does my baby need to be on? When do I start solids? What do I start with? How much should they be eating? When should they be crawling? When should they start walking?

Then you move into toddlerhood and find yourself furiously consulting with parenting books and blogs and podcasts about toddler behavior and how to manage it, and developmental stages, and how to navigate them.

Well, first comes marriage (or the relationship or the donor), then comes the baby, then comes: how the heck do I talk to my child about puberty. Ok, maybe not in that order, but the point is: we move from being positively consumed by all the things in pregnancy and infancy and toddlerhood and then BAM! Your child is asking you about boobs and why you’re bleeding from your butt (because they’re in the bathroom with you 24/7, even when you have your period, and they have questions). They may even begin touching themselves and you find yourself flustered trying to find the words to explain to them that we do not touch ourselves in public. And then - oh GOD - how do we talk to our kids about pleasure? And when do we do that? And oh my goodness - when do their boobs come in? And when does their period start? And how on earth do I talk to them about this?

If you feel flustered around talking to your children about puberty, today’s episode is going to be one that you must save and come back to over and over and over again. Talking to our kids about puberty isn’t easy, but it’s necessary. And since we want to empower our children around their bodies - not just because of all the body image stuff they are going to be exposed to, but also for very practical reasons like bodily autonomy and sexual abuse prevention - we need to get comfortable talking about puberty with them. Ok, maybe it won’t be comfortable, but we need to learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable as we learn to talk to our kids about their bodies.

Today, I’m joined by board certified pediatrician and chief medical officer and co-founder of Girology, Dr. Trish Hutchison. Girlology is a digital health platform with our 500 educational videos for parents and their daughters about every topic under the sun when it comes to puberty. Dr. Trish co-founded Girology with her colleague, Dr. Melissa Holmes. Dr. Holmes is a board certified gynecologist with a specialty in pediatric and adolescent gynecology. In short, you couldn’t have two more qualified people running a digital health platform about puberty.

If you have sons, there is Guyology. So fear not - today you will unlock everything you need to know about talking to your kids abou

How has motherhood felt to you? Has it felt easy? Hard? A mixed bag?

I’ve been pretty open and honest about how much motherhood has thrown me for a loop. It came with some pretty dark moments, and though those dark moments are fewer and farther between, they are still there sometimes.

Someone once asked me, “Why did you decide to have kids?”

The question jarred me. Because the honest answer was: I didn’t know the answer. I was embarrassed and quite shocked that I didn’t know that answer.

And when I really thought about it, the truth is that I decided to have kids because that’s what was modeled for me. That’s the story that was told to me: you do well in school, you get into a good college, you get a good job, you find a solid partner, you get married and you have kids and you live happily ever after.

I never questioned it. I just assumed it was supposed to be my story.

I think that’s part of the reason motherhood was so jarring to me. I was expecting to feel filled with joy. I was expecting my child to do the things the textbook told me she’d do. I was expecting to walk out of the hospital in my skinny jeans because my body was supposed to just bounce right back to the way it was before it grew a human (ha). I was expecting my relationship to stay solid.

None of that was my reality.

I wasn’t prepared for the feelings of resentment, a sense of longing for my old life, a sense of grief for my old self, a sense of shame and guilt for having those feelings of resentment and longing. I wasn’t prepared for the loneliness, for the helpless feeling of a total lack of control as I tried to be an expert at this role as a mother on the very first day on the job and failed. And continued to fail as my daughter went through every stage of her first year of life.

Motherhood threw me for a loop literally at every turn, and I wasn’t prepared for it.

Today on the show, life coach Dr. Gertrude Lyons and I discuss this story of motherhood, this mother code that was passed down to us both from our own mothers or primary caregivers, as well as from our environment and societal and cultural messaging. She has dedicated her life to helping mothers redefine and rewrite their own mother code such that it fits their beliefs, not the ones that they borrowed from anyone else.

We talk about:

Mom Guilt

Mom Shame

Losing your sense of identity in motherhood (and how to get it back)

Reparenting yourself

How motherhood triggers traumas and wounds that need to be healed

And much more. Tune in and be prepared to write the story of motherhood the way you want it to be.

When co-founder Natasha Case of the wildly popular ice cream company, Coolhaus, found herself challenged by feeding her little ones, she took action.

She realized that as both she and her wife, Freya, were busy working professionals and entrepreneurs, they were solving their nutritional needs by ordering pre-made meals for themselves through a meal delivery service.

Standing over yet another uneaten lunch that her son had brought back home from school and feeling frustrated, Natasha had an aha moment:

Why don't we have meal delivery services for kids?

She got to researching and couldn't find any suitable options. She wondered why:

Was it too hard a market to get into? Or was it simply an untapped market that she needed to innovate?

She went with the latter, and a year after selling Coolhaus, Lunch Bunch began serving its first round of meals.

Today on the show, Natasha discusses how Coolhaus and parenting gave way to the birth of Lunch Bunch. Get ready to learn about entrepreneurship while also learning about how to invoke your children's curiosity and unlock the way to get them to eat truly nourishing food.

**I simply cannot believe that we’ve already come to the end of another year, but alas, here we are. And I think so many of us have some kind of health goal we’d like to carry out once the new year begins.

One of the things that seems to be super popular is intermittent fasting. I invited Functional Medicine Nutritionist, Erin Holt, on the show a few months ago to talk about nutrition for women in general, and we touched on intermittent fasting but we didn’t have time to dive deeper.**

Well, that’s what we’re doing today. Because Erin is back and she’s talking all about intermittent fasting. What she has to say will surely surprise you, particularly if you’ve got female physiology and you’re in your reproductive years. We cannot talk about intermittent fasting without talking about blood sugar, which do today as well. And before you go thinking, “I don’t have diabetes or insulin resistance, so why should I care about blood sugar?” let me tell you: it’s in one of - if not the key to maintaining your health and a healthy weight.

Get prepared for a fast but furious lesson in nutrition that could very well liberate you and catapult you into crushing whatever health goal you’ve got for 2023.

Do you have siblings? If so, do you get along? Do you ever remember a time where you did? What was your relationship like as children?

Sibling relationships can be tricky. As it says in the book - Siblings Without Rivalry - when another child comes along, it can feel like a roommate the first child never asked for and never wanted. While some children may gravitate toward their new sibling, others may not. And no matter how the relationship starts out, there will be times when siblings inevitably do not get along.

This can make for a very stressful situation for you as a parent. Of course we want our children to get along, but it would help to understand what's going on inside their heads so we could understand how to more easily help them get there.

Today I'm talking to parenting coach and mother of two, Danielle Bettmann. We're talking all about how to help siblings get along!

Today she explains just what our kids are feeling about each other, and she gives practical, easy to implement tools to help foster not just the relationship they have with their sibling(s), but also - and more importantly - the one that they have with themselves. We talk about the nuts and bolts of the sibling relationship and then we get into specific scenarios like what to do when your children are vying for your attention at the same time, what to do about hitting and kicking and other dangerous physical behavior, how to handle it when your child says really hurtful things about the other child, validating your child’s feelings even when you don’t like how they are expressing them, and so much more!

This is definitely going to be an episode you’ll want to take notes on, save, and also, listen to with your partner. It’s soooo important to be on the same parenting page as your partner. It can save a lot of headaches and frankly, cause much less confusion for your children.

So let's go!

Talking about the birds and the bees has been depicted in so many ways throughout our lives. It's a conversation I naively thought didn't really have to happen until my kids were at least 15 or 16 years old.

That's why I was so surprised when my 6 year old daughter came to me at the end of a play date last month to tell me that her 6 year old male playmate had asked to touch her private parts (cue the panic, red flushed face, shaking with adrenaline Hulk-like creature I felt myself becoming as she delivered each word).

On the show today, you can hear the full story about what happened.

I was so shaken up by the event that I reached out to my friend, Dr. Sarah Bren, a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in parenting. Through many voice messages back and forth over Instagram, she was able to help me calm down and to see that what happened between my daughter and her playmate was actually very developmentally appropriate (huh?).

She talked me through it and did such a great job that I knew I needed to have her on the show to talk about it. Because as parents, we need to know how to talk to our kids about bodily autonomy, consent (wait until you hear what Sarah has to say about that!), body parts and all the things so that by the time we get to that quintessential birds and bees conversation, well, it will basically already have happened. And it won't be awkward. And our children will feel empowered around and informed about their bodies. That may sound idyllic, but after today's show, I think you'll see that that future is very possible. And I would argue, it is our responsibility to make sure that future comes to fruition (sorry, just add it to the ever growing list of your already too-many child rearing responsibilities).

So get ready to get comfortable with the uncomfortable, and set your children up for success around bodily autonomy!

When Danica Thornberry, DAOM, found herself staring at her lab work at 31 years of age - lab work that confirmed she was headed into early menopause due to prematurely aging ovaries - she couldn't believe it.

She had spent the previous decade helping her patients in her practice in LA to overcome fertility challenges. How could this be?

At the time of her diagnosis, Danica was not in a place to begin trying for a family. She thought she had time, and she was determined to figure out how to create it.

She did just that, and she went on to have 2 children in her late 30s.

Danica's approach to fertility combines a unique combination of fertile foods and thoughts, and a deeper understanding of the 4 phases of a woman's cycle. Her program, The Seed Fertility Program, has been touted as life changing by Erin Foster of The World's First Podcast, and has been featured in Goop.

Tune in to hear how you can improve your fertility with Danica's unique program. You'll also learn more about endometriosis, PCOS, and what prematurely ages our ovaries (and what you can do about slowing that down).

We’ve all been there. You’re at the park or on a playdate with your mom friends and their babes who are about the same age. You’re trying not to - you really are - but you can’t help but notice that your friend’s baby is crawling or walking or doing something that your child is not yet doing. And they are the same age.

You try not to panic. But the truth is, we’ve never done this before. We don’t know what is considered “normal” and what isn’t when it comes to so many things about our children, particularly their developmental milestones. I’m talking about things like rolling over, crawling, walking and other gross motor skills your pediatrician asks you about at every check up.

Today, Dr. Brita DeStefano helps take the guesswork out of those developmental skills. Dr. DeStefano is board certified as a pediatric specialist and focuses her work primarily on babies between 0 and 2 years old where much of these developmental motor skills occur.

We talk about lip ties and tongue ties as well, sleep positions, flat heads and helmets, and so much more.

Get ready to feel empowered and to truly understand what’s going on for your child in those very formative years so that you can work together to make this time enjoyable. Because it can be.

Today on the show, we talk about where to begin when it comes to balancing hormones and what she has to say may surprise you. We also get into intermittent fasting and why it may not be the best option for women who are still menstruating. We'll cover those details in this episode.

If you're looking to solve some health mysteries or just to feel better in your body - more energized, optimistic, a free of any pesky health challenges - you're going to love today's episode.

On a scale of one to ten, where is your energy at right now? Do you feel positively jazzed up and ready to take on the world? Or do you just want to take a nap?

Do you wake up in the morning feeling rested or like you haven’t slept?

Do you have symptoms of PMS when you’re in your menstrual cycle?

Did you know that you don’t have to feel any of those things?

Where men and women share a biological rhythm known as the circadian rhythm, women have a second one that is unique to them. It’s called the infradian rhythm, and instead of being ruled by the 24 hour clock like the circadian rhythm is, it’s actually ruled by the 4 phases of a woman’s cycle: follicular, ovulatory, luteal, and menstrual.

In today’s episode, Registered Nurse and cycle synching coach, Megan Rempel, talks about how synching with your infradian rhythm can quite literally unlock your nutrition, balance your hormones, increase your energy, and even help your mental health.

Tune in and prepare to unlock your greatest success in nutrition, fitness and life! For full show notes and a list of the resources mentioned on today's episode, visit themomfeed.com

Have you ever noticed the power of your thoughts? Maybe you've had the experience where you were thinking about someone and they called, or you ended up seeing them at the store.

Or maybe you decided that you wanted to go to college and after much hard work, you got in and did it.

That is manifestation. We all do it, all the time. We manifest good things. We manifest not so good things.

Did you ever realize you could apply the power of manifestation to your journey into parenthood, imagining the family of your dreams before it ever becomes a reality?

The women behind the prenatal vitamin company, WeNatal, believe in mindset so wholeheartedly, that after creating the world's first prenatal vitamin company for both men and women, they adopted one final holistic tool: a journal to manifest the family of your dreams.

You've heard this before: thoughts become things. And how powerful that concept is when trying to conceive.

Today on the show, I'm joined by Lillian Cohanzad, the author of the premier journal for pregnancy "“WeNatal, A Guided Journal Manifesting Your Dream Family,” and passionate supporter of women through spiritual facilitation including manifestation sessions, moon circles and breath work.

Today we discuss some of what you'll find in the journal, like 50 questions to ask before becoming a parent, and 50 affirmations you can use in your conception journey. We discuss the power of manifestation, particularly when it comes to manifesting your family, and how you can use this journal in every aspect of your life.

Tune in and prepare to welcome in the changes your heart has been longing for.

Do you feel like joy is on a never ending refill in your life? Do you seek pleasure with a sense of urgency and almost always put yourself and your own needs before anyone else's?

If you're a woman or a mama, my guess if that you're probably laughing as you read this. Because how many of us were taught to do that? Most of us were sold the model of martyrdom in motherhood: put yourself last. There isn't enough time or money (both or one or the other) to put yourself first, and besides, it's selfish, right?

Is it, though?

On the show today, you're going to be convinced that making joy and your own needs a priority is actually the best thing you can do not just for yourself, but also for your relationships, your kids, your work, and everywhere in your life.

Courtney Fae Long is an International Speaker, Best selling author, coach, and creator of Mariposa Sacred Sexuality, and today she's going to help us unlock the joy inside us all. She's going to show you just why it's so important, and by the end of the hour, you just might find yourself scheduling joy into your days. In fact, that is my wish for you.

Be prepared to be inspired, and to find your way back to yourself, mama.

If you've ever given birth, experienced infertility, endometriosis, postpartum pelvic health conditions like diastasis recti, prolapse, incontinence, bowel trouble, or generally just have a pelvis, today's episode is for you.

I'm joined by Dr. Grace Abruzzo, DPT, who shares her holistic approach to this very Western modality of Physical Therapy. Dr. Grace is a trauma-informed Doctor of Physical Therapy who believes the mind, body and spirit are connected. We hold our traumas within our tissues, and she helps her patients connect to and release those traumas.

Among the conditions mentioned above, Dr. Grace gives her opinion on episiotomies, as well as on the least optimal birthing position for a birthing person (spoiler alert: it happens to be the most commonly recommended position).

This episode is like a warm hug that is simultaneously packed with pertinent advice to anyone with a pelvis!

Have you ever sat down to think about just what your kids are learning in school And how they are learning it?

Oftentimes in school, kids are told what to think, not how to think it. Not all the time. But a lot of the time.

The truth is, our educational system isn't really designed to nurture self confidence and trust in oneself. Our educators are the true heroes of our time, no doubt. But is there a better way to educate our children such that both teacher and student can learn from each other in the process?

Matt Beaudreau thinks that there is. Matt is the founder of Acton Academy Placer and Acton Academy Sacramento. As a career educator, Matt has delivered TEDx talks, consulted with Universities, written books, and created programs that have helped to push education into the 21st century for teens across America. He currently hosts The Essential 11 podcast, which focuses on gaining world-class advice from prominent guests in business, media, sports, education, and entertainment.

Beaudreau is also a world-renowned keynote speaker, speaking to over 250,000 people across the globe with clients ranging from Lockheed Martin and the United States Air Force to Caterpillar and Honeywell.

On the show today, we talk about a new model for education, one that encourages critical thinking, goal setting - both individually and as a collective, socratic conversations, learning how to think vs what to think, character building and so much more.

If you've got a child about to be in school or currently in school, you cannot afford to miss this episode.

If you're in your reproductive years, are currently pregnant or trying to get pregnant, or have experienced miscarriages or infertility, today's episode is going to be a ray of light.

I'm joined by Ronit Menashe and Vida Delrahim, two mamas who founded a prenatal vitamin company for both men and women. It's called WeNatal, and it was born after both Ronit and Vida experienced miscarriages within a week of each other. Their doctors gave them the usual spiel (your eggs are old, it happens, try again), but Ronit and Vida wanted better answers.

They dug into the research and found that men account for 50% of infertility and pregnancy health but no one was talking about it! They set out to create a prenatal vitamin company for men to increase the quality of sperm. But along the way, they realized that women's prenatals needed an overhaul.

So they got to work and teamed up with key medical advisors like Dr. Mark Hyman, Chris Kresser and Kelly Leveque to formulate the cleanest, most bioavailable prenatal vitamins as affordably as they could (without compromising on quality) for both men and women.

Theirs is a holistic approach to conception that involves both the body and the mind: their prenatals come with a Journal that supports couples through this crucial time frame and guides them on manifesting the family of their dreams.

They are truly transforming prenatal health and we are here for it!

Today's show can be summed up in one question:

Why would you tolerate anything less than loving your life?

Today's episode is for moms who are interested in seeking peace with a sense of urgency. It's for women in motherhood who want to eliminate stressful beliefs that leave them suffering from burden, overwhelm and heartache. It's for women who want to find their personal freedom and inner peace so that they can be present at any moment, as mothers and as powerful women.

Shelli Lawrence is a life coach who has been doing this work for 25 years. A mother herself, she is passionate about teaching mothers to question their thoughts - or at least the ones that cause them to suffer.

Today on the show, we explore the spiritual side of motherhood.

When a baby is born, a mother is also born. And when that child is put into the arms of that woman, that woman transforms.

Our culture is very heavy on the baby registry, and supporting the needs of the baby, and sleep training and feeding schedules and all of those things. But where is the conversation around the transformation into motherhood?

We talk about that today with the amazing Julie Piatt. A mother herself, Julie is a mystic, a bestselling author of 3 plant based cookbooks including This Cheese is Nuts, The Plant Powered Way, and The Plant Powered Way Italia. She is the founder of SriMu, a plant based not-cheese company, and she is married to one of the most prolific podcasters and plant-based endurance athletes of our time, Rich Roll.

On the show today you can expect to walk away seeing the sacredness of your motherhood, of getting in touch with your intuition, of deepening the connection with yourself as the powerful woman and shepherd of human life that you are.

Life is admittedly heavy right now. If you're anything like me, you feel guilty enjoying your life all the while knowing how many people are suffering right now, particularly in Ukraine (though if you follow the news, you know that the hardships are unfortunately not reserved to just that country right now).

Today on the show I'm joined by Caitlin Murray of Big Time Adulting. Caitlin is all about real, raw observations of motherhood, and she does so with a lot of humor. 3 years ago, Caitlin's eldest son, Callum, was diagnosed with cancer when he was just 3 years old. Happily, after 3 years of treatment, he is cancer-free.

But in that process, Caitlin learned a lot about what joy means, and how to find it even in moments of great despair. The lessons she took from her experience being a mother to a child with cancer can most certainly be applied to what's happening in the world right now.

Tune into this candid and uplifting conversation about finding the light in the dark, as well as some hard-hitting talking points about mom guilt, relationships and other realities of motherhood.

Do you get triggered by your children? Often? Does their whining or their screaming or their tantrums set you off and cause behavior in yourself that you're not always proud of?

Do you have any persisting health issues - no matter how big or small - like migraines, bloating, IBS, brain fog, joint pain, skin issues and the like? Issues that no matter what you try, nothing ever really seems to work?

Did you know that both your emotions and your health issues could be being triggered by trapped emotions in your body? It may sound a little out there, but it's actually just quantum physics (no big deal). We are all made of atoms and we vibrate at different frequencies. Turns out, emotions also have frequencies, so when they get stuck, they can cause everything from angry outbursts to chronic health issues and everything in between.

Thankfully there is something you can do about that, and my guest on the show today, Gina Kegel, explains it all. Gina is an Energy healing transformation coach who uses a technique called Emotion Code to release trapped emotions within the body - emotions you are not even aware are there - to bring your body and its frequencies back into balance so you can heal (and maybe not lose your s$%t the next time one of your kids has a tantrum).

Today's show is all about taking care of you, mama. It's time. Tune in and find out how emotion code might be the next step in your health and parenting journey.

Do you tend to put yourself first? Like, before your kids and your spouse and your friends?

Do you feel like you've lost that sense of vitality and energy since becoming a mother?

Are you suffering from any postpartum health conditions like diastasis recti, prolapse, bladder leakage or low back pain?

Do you have any lingering health conditions like brain fog, anxiety or depression, gut health issues like bloating, stomach aches, skin rashes, etc.?

Do you realize it's all connected? Are you ready to heal your body, mind and spirit so you can shine and truly enjoy yourself as both a woman and a mother?

Today's episode will empower you to do just that. I'm joined by moms and pilates instructors, Sue McCaroll and Caitlin Hatzenbuhler to discuss the role that both nutrition and pilates have played in their own healing and empowerment journey through motherhood. Sue shares her experience developing Bell's Palsy after the birth of her third child, and Caitlin shares her experience with an ovarian cancer diagnosis. They both also share about powerful transformations around food that transformed migraines, anxiety, joint pain and more!

Feel empowered in motherhood, mama. Sometimes it starts with just acknowledging that you don't feel your best, and then asking the right questions and surrounding yourself with people who can give you the answers to unlock it all.

Ask yourself honestly: how many times throughout the day do you feel complete and utter peace?

How many times throughout the day do you feel complete and utter stress?

What if there was a way to quickly help move you from a state of stress to a state of calm? And not just you - your children too!

Well, there are many ways to do that, but my guest on the show today has one that combines modern psychology with ancient acupressure points that can help you get to a calmer state in a matter of minutes.

We are already 6 days into 2022, and I felt like the best way to support you as the year unfolds was to give you a special tarot reading, just for this community!

My friend, wellness witch, coach, and mentor, Tandy Gutierrez, graciously did a 5 card tarot pull to give guidance and journal prompts for the year ahead. Tandy pulls one card for the year, along with 4 other cards for each season. Each card comes with its own set of journal prompts and guidance, so be sure to get your notepads ready to write down what resonates!

We also discuss the similarities between the tarot and astrology; the importance of knowing your sun, moon, and rising zodiac signs and what each one tells about yourself; how to use the Tarot for self-care; how hard it is to be a mother right now; and the numerological number for the year and what it means!

Enjoy and Happy New Year!

Giving birth doesn't seem to be going out of fashion anytime soon. And it's safe to say there are a lot of opinions about how it should be done.

If you've ever considered either a home birth or unmedicated birth, today's episode is going to give you answers. My guest today is licensed midwife and certified professional midwife, Hayley Oakes, and she has been attending births in home, birth center, and hospital settings for just over a decade. Today Hayley shares statistics around home births that may surprise you, and she is passionate about normalizing home births if that is something a woman would like to explore.

Hayley also touches on the importance of a woman's environment during pregnancy, because that can impact the child's psycho and social development. We also discuss the importance of honoring the postpartum period, and how failing to do so can lead to higher chances of developing postpartum mood disorders.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could just wave a magic wand and have our babies sleep through the night? Many sleep training techniques purport to do such a thing (sort of), but in reality, not all sleep training is created equal. And that's because not all babies are created equal!

But just because your baby or toddler or even older child doesn't respond to traditional sleep training tactics doesn't mean there is no hope. It just means you need to tailor your approach. Today's guest, Chrissy Lawler, has made it her life's mission to help families get more sleep by doing just that: tailoring the approach to match the unique needs of the child.

Chrissy is a Marriage and Family Therapist who founded The Peaceful Sleeper after realizing that the biggest proportion of her clients who were thriving were the ones who were well-rested. A mother of 4 herself and a past insomnia sufferer, Chrissy is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to getting babies and kids of all ages (even us adults!) get good sleep. It's no wonder she's been featured on NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox News, and Better Homes & Gardens, to name a few.

Did you know that 90% of a child's lifelong neuron connections are formed in the first 6 years of their lives? That effectively means that they are basically downloading their software through the inputs around them from their primary caregivers and peers. And that's important because that software will run on autopilot for the rest of their life. Think about your own belief systems and where they came from. Many of the things you believe aren't actually your unique beliefs. They were imprinted upon you by your primary caregivers - unless you worked really hard to undo them in your adult life.

Today on the show, I'm joined by early childhood education expert and positive discipline certified parenting educator, Danielle Bettmann, to talk about how to parent in order to build healthy relationships with our children such that we build positive neural connections. We talk about whining and tantrums and how to deal with them, bribes and threats and why they don't work, the inner workings of positive discipline and how to use the techniques in practice, emotional regulation for both parent and child, and more.

Danielle's focus is on children up to age 6, but parents of children of any age will benefit from the strategies being shared here today.

Do you talk about gender and sexuality with your children? Do they know what it means to be LGBTQ? Do you ever wonder at what age it is most appropriate to have these conversations with your children?

As parents, we have a lot on our plate. Navigating conversations like these ones may not be at the top of our list. But almost 6% of adults in the US identify as LGBTQ - and 5-10% of LGBTQ youth attempt suicide each year (roughly 1.5-3 times more than heterosexual youth). It's clear that we have some work to do. Because as my guest on the show today, Chris Tompkins says, the messages about this subject begin on the playground. And while you may not have a child who is LGBTQ, your child will almost certainly interact with someone who is, and we need to begin to change the societal beliefs around the subject.

On today's show, we talk about two very important concepts: Heteronormativity, which is the concept of being assumed straight at birth, and Benign Neglect. Both of these societal standards are leading our LGBTQ youth and later, adults, to feel shame, and to live a life where they do not feel accepted for who they are. And that is unacceptable.

Chris discusses his book,https://www.amazon.com/Raising-LGBTQ-Allies-Changing-Playground/dp/1538136260/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1N3JHDNCT1SPD&dchild=1&keywords=raising+lgbtq+children&qid=1633397157&sprefix=how+to+raise+kids+who+aren%27%2Caps%2C481&sr=8-5

We discuss at what age to talk to children about the LGBTQ community, why it's important that we must, among other things. This episode is a must for every parent.

Through the dawn of smartphones and social media and all the bells and whistles of this digital world, parenting has become a whole new experience. Gone are the days of being in a state of wonder, wondering why the sky is blue or why geese migrate in the winter. Where we used to have to wait until we got to the library to look up the answer, now we can whip out our phones or simply ask google or alexa to tell us the answer within seconds.

How do we parent in such a distracted world? How do we teach our children the value of delayed gratification? The beauty of being in a state of not knowing? How do we teach them to live in the moment? To manage their emotional well being so that they may grow up to become emotionally resilient and handle everything coming at them at speeds faster than we could ever fathom in our own childhood?

With so many parents coming to Emily Fletcher, the founder of Ziva Meditation, for help teaching their children mindfulness and meditation, Emily finally answered the call and created Ziva Kids, a mindfulness and meditation course for children ages 4-14. Developed in conjunction with the puppeteers at Sesame Street, clinical psychologists Dr. Shefali Tsabary and Dr. Christina Cohen and holistic pediatrician Dr. Elisa Song, Ziva Kids is meant to help kids navigate their emotions in a healthy way so as to teach them how to be emotionally resilient as they navigate this new digital world.

If you've been looking for parenting tips and tools to help you nurture and develop your kids in this way, take a listen to see how Ziva Kids just might be the answer you didn't know you were searching for.

Hey mama, are you tired? Yes, yes. I know you're probably physically tired. But I'm talking emotionally tired. Emotionally tired of holding space for everyone else's feelings but not having enough time or space to process your own. Feeling mom guilt in a major way because you have this idea of what the ideal mother is supposed to look like and you don't always fit the bill. Why? Because somehow when you became a mother, you were still you. Not someone's mother. Just...uniquely you, with all the same passions and needs and wants. But then all of a sudden you had to push your needs aside and focus on your child or children. And not only was that not frowned upon, it was actually encouraged. By everyone around you. And it was reinforced by the culture in which you live.

So many of us mamas have lost our way. We feel like we've lost that connection with ourselves, we don't know how to tap into our intuition, we don't really know what we want and many of us don't really know who we are outside of being someone's mother. And we're spiritually exhausted.

On today's show, I'm joined by life coach and mama of 3, Katerina Barron, to discuss all of this. Mom guilt. Shame. How to tap into our intuition. How to break free of the identity of "mom" and just be us. How to properly manage our stress - even in the moment when we cannot go away and do the thing we need to do in order to feel human again because we literally cannot leave our children. We discuss our addiction to busyness and how we connect our worthiness to how much we got done in a day. Parenting is undoubtedly one of the hardest transitions a person can go through in their life. Rewarding, yes. But also ultimately very challenging emotionally, spiritually and physically. Add in marriage to the mix and you've got a recipe for many things that could potentially go wrong. And often, they do. The divorce rate in the US alone is between 40 and 50% each year.

You may be among that percentage. And there is no shame in that. But if you and your ex-partner have a child or children together, it becomes paramount to equip yourself with the tools to navigate your divorce in a healthy way so as to support the emotional needs of not just yourself, but also of your children. Because they are watching and learning, and every step you can take to help them navigate their emotions around their parents splitting up can only serve to help them grow up to be resilient and emotionally well-adjusted people.

I'm joined today by Sarah Klinger, a divorced mother of two who has worked in early childhood development for over a decade. She is currently the director of a preschool and is working toward her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology with a child studies specialization. Outside of her role as a preschool director, she has a private practice in marriage and family therapy as a psychological associate.

Sarah Klinger

Today's episode is a rare gem with insight into Sarah's own divorce and process, given through the lens of someone schooled in clinical psychology. This episode is like a play book for single and divorced parents that will truly help you through your journey.

Did having children rock your marriage? Or did you navigate the waters as smoothly as possible? I'm going to go ahead and guess that having children revealed some of the cracks in the foundation of your partnership. How could it not? The path into parenthood is a spiritual one that often leaves both mother and father spinning as they peel back layers of themselves and discover a new identity, a new role they hadn't stepped into until their babe came into the world.

In today's episode, I sit down with Tandy & Mateo Gutierrez, a married couple from Brooklyn with two kids, to discuss the ins and outs of marriage with children. We talk about how they met, their unconventional path into parenthood, how to argue and set boundaries, communication strategies for a healthy marriage, sex after kids, the 5 love languages, and how knowing yours and your partner's astrology could be a constructive and incredibly helpful tool in navigating not just your relationship, but also parenthood. If you have children and are co parenting with someone in any capacity, married or otherwise, this conversation is not to be missed!

Approximately 11% of children in the US between the age of 4 and 17 have been diagnosed with ADHD. With 3.5 million children currently prescribed Adderall and more than 42% of people aged 12 and over abusing the drug without a prescription, it is clearly one of the most pressing issues of our time.

My guest today, Audrey Stimpson, is a master photographer who overcame a 23 year Adderall addiction and now manages her ADHD holistically through food, movement, meditation, breathwork, and more. As a fashion photographer working in the elite fashion and modeling industry of NYC for 8 years, Audrey had the privilege of shooting for top brands and major publications like Vogue, Elle, Forbes, and Robb Report to name a few. But since overcoming her addiction and becoming a mother, Audrey has made it her mission to help others free themselves of Adderall addiction too, and to help them thrive with ADHD.

If you've got a child with ADHD or have it yourself, this episode is chock full of information to help you manage this diagnosis in a more holistic way. Audrey is living proof that it can work. Listen in for the details.

Do you know how many days you have from the moment your child is born until their 18th birthday? 6570 days. That's how many days you have to make an impact on them great enough that when they go out into the world, they are equipped with the tools they need to thrive. According to my guest today, Nellie Harden, your job as a parent is to help them develop self-led discipline and leadership. If you can do those two things, your job as a parent is done. Ok, not really. But it will be pretty set because once those babes turn 18, you don't have as much of a say in their lives anymore.

Today on the show, Nellie, who is a family experience designer and parenting coach, shares some of her parenting advice and methods she recommends using with your children as early as possible in order to help them thrive in adulthood.

Infant sleep. Sleep training. Sleep regressions. To swaddle or not to swaddle. Noise machines or not. Black out blinds or not. Teaching babies to self soothe. Putting babies down drowsy but awake. Co sleep or not? Feed and rock to sleep or let them do it on their own? There is not shortage of questions that new parents have when they come home from the hospital with their newborns.

Dr. Google can be confusing, because there seems to be a lot of information out there on opposite ends of the spectrum, from wait it out to cry it out. What if there were a solution somewhere in the middle? A solution that takes both the parents' and the baby's needs into consideration so that everyone can have their needs met and get some sleep?

Today on the show, pediatric nurse and sleep and feeding coach, Helen Davies of Essential Parenting discusses all of this and more, including tips on setting your child up for the best chance of having a great night's sleep. If you've got a child on the way or are in the thick of new motherhood wondering how to get your baby to sleep, Helen can help. Enjoy and wishing you many full nights of sleep in the very near future, mama!

Working moms. Stay at home moms. Each role comes with its own set of rewards and challenges, and each role undoubtedly renders each mother completely exhausted by the end of the day. My guest today is Sarah Zapp, former TV host, journalist, reporter, and producer who earned multiple Telly awards and 8 Emmy nominations. Today we talk about her current role as CEO and founder of Beyond Board, as well as how she managed motherhood while keeping up with a high-paced career in TV, interviewing some of the biggest stars including Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, Hugh Jackman, Meryl Streep and more.

This conversation is a breath of fresh air that is full of wisdom on navigating the seasons of motherhood. It's an episode about how to live your life, how to transcend mom guilt, getting clear on who you are, understanding the difference between being busy and being productive, putting the ego aside, and being willing to be a lifelong learner.

If you often find yourself towing the line between balance and chaos in your life as a working or stay-at-home mom, you're going to come away from this episode with some insight into how to step out of that space and into a more balanced life. Enjoy!

Do you ever have thoughts about your life as a mother that you feel like you need to keep private? Thoughts like oh my gosh, I don't want to play with my kids. Or I have no idea what I'm doing. Or I don't like my life right now. Life as a mom isn't for the faint of heart. And life as a stay-at-home mom comes with its own set of unique challenges including feelings around not having your own paycheck, navigating your identity, and more.

Today on the show I'm joined by mom influencer, Mary Hendricks of The Very Mary Life. Through funny mom memes and Instagram reels, Mary has managed to change the narrative around all facets of motherhood, normalizing feelings that moms may otherwise be afraid to share out loud. She's funny, refreshing, relatable, and unapologetically herself as she tells the story of her journey as a mom on Instagram every day. This episode and Mary are not to be missed! Consider this one of the best mom friend dates you'll ever have. Just pour yourself a glass of wine or a cup of coffee and enjoy!

It's safe to say that many of us go into motherhood with a plan. Heck, we go into labor with a plan. And it's also safe to say that almost none of it ever goes the way we want it to. Many of us envision a birth that isn't anything like the one we actually experience. And many of us think we're going to be one way as a mother, and then get a rude awakening once our child is in our arms and we are faced with all the realities of motherhood: the emotions, the shifting hormones, the changed identity, the feelings that flood through us at breakneck speed.

Molly Nourmand is a licensed psychotherapist, yogini, and mother. She has a practice called Life After Birth that focuses on postpartum support for mothers. In her group is the opportunity to process birth trauma, to discuss any possible PMADS (perinatal mood and anxiety disorders), and so much more, much of which we discuss today.

Today's show is for anyone currently pregnant or in their first few years postpartum, though it may be good for anyone who hasn't yet processed their birth stories, no matter how old your children are.

You're a mom, so we already know you're a superstar. But riddle me this: do you feel like you're thriving? Or do you feel like you're sort of just coasting through your days, surviving and just barely keeping all the balls up in the air? Unfortunately, most mothers feel like the latter, and that feeling of just getting by, of pushing ourselves and our needs to the side comes from a lifetime's worth of societal and familial outdated beliefs about what it means to be a good mother. Our mom guilt runs hot, and we are firing on all cylinders for the wrong reasons, often leaving ourselves depleted not just for our children, but also and more importantly, for ourselves. Brooke Weinstein is a Doctor of Occupational Therapy who - after over a decade treating children - began to see that her skills could be applied to coach busy moms how to fall in love with their lives again. How to thrive, not just survive. How to ditch mom guilt and effectively step into a better version of herself for all parties involved. Tune in to find out how you can too!

It's not easy to talk about, but as death doesn't discriminate, sometimes it comes for us far too early, and sometimes even when we least expect it. Parenting is for life. We come to this earth as children who are parented, and then we have children of our own and we realize we still have parenting to do...for ourselves! Many of us have discovered the tools of self-development in order to reparent ourselves in adulthood, but what if we could offer those same tools to our children, much earlier than we discovered them ourselves? That's the question the founders of the affirmation card company, Love Powered Co, asked themselves while having a playdate with their children. That question led Anna Lozano and Lindy Sood to create a company that was funded on Kickstarter within 18 hours of launching. A company that is booming and creating affirmation cards for kids and adults alike. Tune in to hear the power of using I AM statements to set the stage for positive, healthy self-development at any age.

When was the first time any health care professional talked to you about your pelvic floor? Did you know it makes up part of your core, well beyond your abdominal muscles? Most women don't hear about their pelvic floor until they have a postpartum condition like prolapse or bladder leakage. Which is a shame, because with some conservative care and attention on the pelvic floor, we can possibly avoid and even quickly heal pelvic floor issues before they become chronic. In today's show, Dr. Brianne Grogan, DPT discusses two such postpartum conditions, and she gives a fascinating discussion about kegels (and how doing them wrong can cause damage), how the pelvic floor is an emotional storage center, and so much more about those lady bits you may not have known before. If you're planning to become pregnant, are pregnant, or have had children, you'll definitely benefit from hearing what Dr. Bri has to say today.

Are you in love with your body? Do you feel like you think and talk about your body the way you would want your daughter to think and talk about hers? It's no secret that us women are fed all kinds of subliminal messages from a very young age about what the "perfect" body "should" look like, and none of it is very productive or supportive. Rather than spend another minute worrying about the size of your waistline, why not step into the version of your body that makes you feel your best? According to today's guest, weight loss coach, Steph Hendel, each of us has a "soul aligned body." Today, we discuss what that is, and how to get on the road to stepping into it.

Dr. Christine breaks down all you need to know about the pelvic floor and how important it is for your body to function correctly. We also discuss some of the less empowering language geared toward postpartum women that suggests they somehow need to lose weight fast, get back to exercising too early, and ignore the healing of the tissues that are in need of some rest and recovery long after that 6 week postpartum check-up. #strongasamother

In this episode, we get into two very big and important topics: labor doulas and vaginally delivering a breech baby, specifically, one that is the frank breech position. My dear friend, labor doula, yoga teacher, dancer, and fellow mama, Denise Woods, discusses her experience as a labor doula and the important roles that they play in a woman’s journey to giving birth. Especially for first-time mamas, it can be confusing trying to decide if you should have a doula during these COVID times when the doula can’t even go into the room with you. We address that in this episode.

Then we switch gears to discuss something very rare, which is Denise’s vaginal delivery of her son, Lennon, who was in the Frank Breech position. She found out at 38 ½ weeks and did everything she could to turn him before ultimately surrendering to his chosen ideal position, and subsequently scrambling to scrap her dream of a home birth and find a care provider in Los Angeles who would be willing to facilitate a vaginal breech birth. Finding care providers that deliver breech babies vaginally is a dying art, so this was more challenging than you might think. Tune in for the details - and listen to the end for a special offer to view Denise’s birth!

Join me this week as I sit down - virtually, of course - to chat with my positive discipline parenting coach, Estela De Wulf, about how the first 6 months of motherhood with a new baby are much like being in quarantine. We discuss three really important steps that she believes can make all the difference in welcoming a baby into the family, as well as the four essential elements you need to establish in yours and your baby’s life once they have arrived. We talk about when she, as a parenting coach, would ideally like to start working with families (spoiler alert: it’s before the baby is even a concept), the detriment of the Martyr complex, what really establishes a solid emotional, physical and spiritual foundation for children and families, and so much more!

If you’re pregnant, thinking about getting pregnant, or in the first 6-12 months of the throws of life as “mom,” this episode is for you.

My goal is to empower you with information that will make your life easier, that will help you understand why you’re feeling the way you are, and give you permission to feel it all simultaneously.

Join me for new episodes every Thursday! And let’s keep this conversation going after the show: join our private Facebook Group The Mom Feed Podcast, and follow us on Instagram @The_Mom_Feed
