Parenting a child with autism requires a holistic approach that focuses on nurturing the whole child rather than solely addressing the autism diagnosis. This comprehensive strategy recognizes that each autistic child is unique with their own strengths, challenges, and potential. By adopting a holistic perspective, parents can create an environment that supports their child's overall development, including physical, emotional, and social well-being. Domestic violence is a pervasive and deeply traumatic issue that affects countless individuals worldwide, leaving lasting scars on survivors and their families. Abusers often employ a range of tactics to maintain control over their victims, including physical violence, emotional manipulation, financial abuse, and social isolation. The cycle of abuse can be insidious, with periods of apparent calm or remorse interspersed with escalating aggression and danger. Recognizing the early signs of an abusive relationship is crucial for potential victims to protect themselves and seek help before the situation worsens. These signs may include excessive jealousy, controlling behavior, rapid mood swings, and attempts to isolate the victim from friends and family.

In this episode, I share the final stages of my abusive relationship, including being nine months pregnant and completely isolated from my support network. The situation rapidly deteriorated, with my ex’s behavior becoming increasingly erratic and dangerous. From waking me at 3 AM to make him food to accusing me of infidelity regarding my pregnancy, his actions exemplified the manipulative and controlling nature of abusers. The night his intention was to kill me. And it marked a turning point, leading to my escape with the help of my father.

Despite the trauma and challenges I faced, including a custody battle and ongoing harassment, I want to emphasize that healing and happiness are possible for survivors of domestic violence. My journey to recovery wasn't easy or quick, but it led me to a place of peace and joy that I never thought possible during my darkest moments. Today, I live a fulfilling life, free from abuse and filled with love. To women currently in abusive situations: there is hope, and it does get better. With support, courage, and time, you can break free from the cycle of abuse and build a beautiful, safe life for yourself. Remember, you deserve love, respect, and happiness, and they are achievable, no matter how impossible it may seem right now. Tune in to learn about my journey through years of abuse, my path to healing, and how I found love and joy on the other side of this traumatic experience.

It's not your story; it's just a chapter. * Whatever you need to rewire for yourself, keep repeating it, and it will become second nature. It is just, like I said, taking the baby steps. It all comes together once you do all the smaller stuff. * It will get better as long as you want it to. Essentially, what you feel on the inside will always reflect on the outside. * As hard as it might be, once you take that first step, it gets a little bit easier, and you just keep taking the steps until it's just a walk in the park.

Quotes * There's nothing wrong with them; there's nothing shameful about their desires, interests, and curiosities across the whole spectrum of what they might want to do. * No matter where they are sexually, no matter how much they're connected or disconnected from their bodies or sexuality, number one, there's nothing wrong with them. * There's nothing wrong about I should be, you know, letting my partner touch me. It's kind of like, no, but can you be your own best lover. * I just really invite women to take pleasure in their sensations and their sensuality and really come back home to that place of love for themselves. * Women can truly honour themselves and know their power, their sexuality, and their divine leadership. It's almost become as they do their inner work and really keep going against those things we've been taught, take care of everybody else, all of that they can really honor themselves.

Building strong relationships with children is a vital part of helping them grow and develop. One powerful way to do this is through co-regulation. Co-regulation means working together with kids to help them manage their emotions and behavior. It's like a team effort where adults and children support each other. When we co-regulate, we create a safe and caring environment where children can learn to understand and control their feelings. This can lead to stronger, more trusting relationships between adults and kids, helping them thrive and succeed in their journey of growing up.

In this episode, we are joined by Suzanne Ducharme MacFarlane, a Pediatric Speech and Language Pathologist with over 30 years of experience helping children and their families make connections and optimize their communication and development, to talk about co-regulation and how we can use it to help kids and anyone in our orbit calm down and energize. Suzanne shares tips for learning self-regulation and helping kids self-regulate. She also talks about how women can start implementing self-regulation in their lives and the lives of their kids. Welcome to Resilient Woman Friday! In this poem, the speaker describes her experience buying a rose from a woman in need and placing it in a vase on her dresser. She then felt inspired to add tulips to the arrangement, but in doing so, the roses eventually withered away. The speaker questions whether she was too focused on helping others and neglecting her own needs. The poem is a commentary on the dangers of giving too much to others at the expense of one's own well-being. It serves as a reminder for women to take care of themselves and to be mindful of the balance between giving and receiving. Tune in to learn more!

There is a better way to build connections and still work towards your goals. You don't have to give in to "hustler harder" culture to get the life you want.

Building authentic connections takes time and there is no legit get rich quick way to building an empire. Wouldn't you rather do it in a way that you're proud of? I promise friends, the "Hey girl hey" messages and harassing your friends is NOT the way.

Learning how to suck until you don’t so you might as well do it. CJ is a self published author & her first book she calls it horribly beautiful. Nobody cared and she had to learn the gift that not worrying about what other people think.

She got to sit in the gratitude of how her babies are doing so well in the world. Finding love again and a man who believes in her wholeheartedly and that gives her confidence to do all the things she’s done.

Quotables “Middle school was the first time a teacher told me she believed in me.

“ “Fast forward to 20 years retired in the Air Force. And I got the gumption.”

“It came down to, 11 years of it was a single parent. I survived Afghanistan, a convoy outside the wire, COPD, and I’m like what the hell am I doing worrying about other people.”

Coach Brit shares so many gems about overcoming, loss, her own experience with abuse and how a significant loss of a loved on shaped and changed her perspective.
She works in the mental health field during the day, and has her coaching agency to serve women in a way that the world needs more of.

In ths conversation with Gabi she talks about how we aren’t our bodies, that we are SO much more than that. Empowering women to see themselves beyond those exterior pieces and root your worthiness in your core.

Understanding now that she’s on the other side of digging into her healing, and what that looks like as she moves in the world, with clients on a daily basis.

Authenticity is what connected Brit and Gabi initially, and this conversation is the bi product of authentic connection and relationship building. Bio: I was a military child moving around until my parents settled in Spokane, WA when I was 8 years old. Life and my career have taken me to various states and as far as Germany. I am 1 of 11 children raised in a combined family. I have over 20 nieces and nephews and I am the best auntie-mommy! I have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management and am currently in my Master’s program for Mental Health Counseling with Capella University. I am a #metoo survivor and advocate passionately against sexual violence and assault. I volunteered with the YMCA in Seattle, WA as a youth mentor. I also volunteered for a year with SARC in Tri Cities, WA as a crisis and rape advocate in 2019. I currently volunteer with LCS as a Crisis and Rape Advocate. This allows me the opportunity to take crisis calls and go to the hospitals when a sexual assault survivor presents. Many people do not know their rights as a victim of abuse and violence and I am blessed to help each survivor know their rights and advocate for them through the hospital visit. So why life coaching? Because I love people and people sometimes get stuck in a rut. Not every problem we face in life requires therapy. We all have different goals, needs and life experiences that have shaped us. Sometimes we need someone who doesn’t know us at all to hear us and process with. Quotables: "There is no one right way." "It's so fun when you're working with a client and they are like AH-HA." "I am not my trauma." In this episode Gabi helps us learn how to listen and pay more attention to our intuition. That little voice in the back of our minds that tells us when something isn’t right. It’s happened to all of us at one time or another. Did you pay attention to it or ignore it? It could have been warning you about a person or a particular situation or both at the same time. Gabi gives you 3 tips on how to better listen to that voice in the back of your mind that is set there to protect you for your best good. Quotables “We are conditioned to be like stop being mean, be nice. Not everyone is a serial killer.”

“Everybody will have those moments, if you listen, when your mind and your body will line up and tell you stranger danger you are in a bad situation.”

“We aren’t made in the world to not trust or not believe or not find a way to protect ourselves. That’s what intuition is.”

In this episode Gabi digs into the way we feel when we go thru relationships with others. Whether they are romantic relationships, as a parent, all of the ways. Encouraging those you love to grow, and heal is all we can do. We can’t make them do this work. We often focus so much on what other do or don’t do. We want to tell other people about themselves, we want to be loud, and you can’t do that. It’s a trauma response.

Quotables “Needing to have the last word, or dig in, is a trauma response. And have our feelings acknowledged so we feel like we have to come a little wild to be seen.”

“ A lot of people have been conditioned to think that as long they have made peace with whatever they have done. There isn’t any apology that needs to be handed out.”

Who do you have in your circle? The way that you are showing up for yourself, is not the way you show up for others. It's so important to be intentional with the people who you let pour into your life.  As you grow up, you should start to replace the party friends for friends who push you out of your comfort zone, call you out on your bullshit, and help you become a better version of yourself.

Listeners will be ready to learn more about yourself, learn triggers and assess the people who are influencing your decision making. Your close friendships should be healthy, thriving successful relationships just like your significant other relationship. You all need someone who loves you enough to be willing to push you, reminds you how incredible you are, and also be okay with having uncomfortable conversations that need to be had.

How do you balance mom life and being a successful entrepreneur? Our host Gabi Garland, is joined by Jessica Hurley, the host of The Stranded Phase podcast and the owner of Instapodcasts, to give their insight on podcasting, keys to success, woman empowerment, and being a mother.

Helping other women is not just fulfilling, but also is the fastest way to succeed. We have to help and support each other, especially women. One huge mistake that mothers make is putting everything into your kids and family and nothing into yourself. It's so important to do everything you can in order to be the best version of yourself, and get rid of the mom guilt that comes along with self-care and choosing to be selfish at times. Start saying no to everyone else and start saying yes to yourself.

When your a momma, almost every mom can relate because we all understand there is no hood like motherhood. However, one things fewer moms are faced with is birthing a child with health issues and internal defects that effect their birth or them for a lifetime.

Gabi talks with Jen koym, the founder of Lilypad, a non-profit organization created and named after her daughter Lily who was born with heart defects and needed to be moved to Boston for weeks at a time for a special set of surgeries. When they were sent there they were immediately connected with hospitality homes, an organization that connects you with home hosts willing to host you so that you do not have to afford weeks worth of hotel stays while your child receives the care they need.

When Jen and her husband return home to Virginia, they found an organization like this did not exist, so they created it for those in need locally. Gabi was a recipient of these services when her son was born with heart defects and needed several surgeries.

They both open up about how different the journey is for parents who deal with babies with health issues. How it is difficult for your friends and family to support you through the unknown and one of the hardest things to adopt is that the future is constantly unknown for your baby and your family.

This episode will truly give you insight and empathy towards parents dealing with the unknown with their newborns and growing children. If you have a desire to help Lilypad Housing or want to get in contact with Jen, check out what they do here:
