Autumn is a time of cleansing, clearing out, even more than spring. The leaves remind us of nature's way of letting go and making room for the new.

Many clients are talking about letting go of what is not serving them in their lives, letting things fall away.
And trusting, making room for a journey with more alignment.
Ask yourself, what needs to "fall" away? It could be things, people, jobs, thought patterns. Take time to listen. The more you listen, the more you will hear.

Anne Poirier, the creator of the Body Joyful Revolution, shares the importance of self-compassion for ourselves, our bodies, and how we get to be role models for the next generation! In her book - The Body Joyful (coming out Oct. 2021), she takes us on a highly personal journey of never feeling enough, spiraling her into anorexia, exhaustion, and depression. Anne's central message is that we can all be empowered by choice. The choice to shift from the common critic to the voice of compassion. The critic is so automatic and with practice (and you are worth it), pausing and being aware allows us the room, the space, to make room for self-compassion -- that changes everything! For inspiration and support, join Anne's private Facebook group - Body Joyful Revolution - and be sure to get her new book in October.
Look inside, be aware, and let self-compassion be your leader.

The last of three tools for my global Cisco presentation is BE Loyal.

“Self-care is not self-indulgence, it’s self-preservation.”

Andrea Lorde

How will you take great care of yourself?

Again, last month I was honored to do a global Cisco presentation. I shared essential self-care tools that, frankly, we all need right now. Last week on our podcast, we talked about the importance of being PRESENT.

Another simple tool is: Be Positive.

Perhaps it gets overlooked because we live amid pandemic chaos, the news is tough to digest, and it’s more challenging to focus on the positive…

Focusing on the positive doesn’t fix everything, but it will make you feel better. It is a practice. A choice. And the more you choose it, the easier it gets.

Last week I was honored to do a global Cisco presentation to 1000’s. I shared essential self-care tools that, frankly, we all need right now.

One simple - often overlooked - tool is: Be Present.

Perhaps it is so ignored because we live in a fast-paced, distracted world — amid of the pandemic.

Here’s what being present will do for you…

  • Hear your wisdom (yes, your inner wisdom)
  • Discover miracles (they happen around you all the time — you get to experience the magic of them)
  • Quiet the critic (make room for compassion)
  • Ease fears (when you are present, you are not regretting yesterday, or anxious about tomorrow)
  • Release the “how’s” (another ‘future’ anxiety causer)
  • Experience more peace and joy (hope, too)

Kaye Saunders has been making music and helping others to make music for most of her life. She is a singer, pianist, composer, choral conductor, and Director of Music and organist at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Durham, NC. Kaye has an active private voice and piano studio here in the Triangle, and one of her favorite things is when friends or family gather around her piano to make music together. Okay, it's Easter week. No one is going anywhere during this pandemic. Her choir and church family are reaching out and expressing their feeling of sadness and loss. Kaye isn't sad. She is glad. Then she is feeling guilty. Then she speaks up, and then she is free. Kaye reminds us of the importance of being in silence, listening to what we need, quieting the inner guilt-judge, speaking up, and taking time for yourself. She also reminds us to embrace this challenging time as much as possible, and find creative ways to bring more play into your day. Reach out to Kaye Sunders through Facebook to schedule your online piano or voice lesson!

Limit your news. Mind your mind. Be in acceptance.

And, for those "secretly" loving their quarantine, here's your permission slip to love it. It doesn't mean you don't feel bad for those who are sick, have lost their jobs, and are struggling. Take action to help others... and enjoy. Let these be two different things.

Don't let guilt steal your peace -- don't look back and wish you had enjoyed this time.

Practice a quick, guided visualization each day. Experience its positive effects. Be safe. Be inspired. Be hopeful. We will join hands again soon...

Tracey O’Connell is a self-proclaimed “Recovering Physician.” After more than two decades as a radiologist, she realized she had been on a path that was not in alignment with her deepest, most authentic self. Lots of self-study and the work of Brené Brown helped her to rediscover her Truth. She became a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator and now helps others incorporate Brené's tools for wholehearted living into their own lives to bring more self-love, authenticity, vulnerability, and resilience. In our podcast, Tracey shares how leaving her job was not easy and a real leap of faith. As a radiologist, she found herself evolving - as a person in the dark - and chose to embrace vulnerability (uncertainly, risk, and emotional exposure) and make soul-affirming changes. If you feel out of alignment with your true Self, ask for help. It actually is possible to acquire new tools to take better care of YOU to be able to live and love with your whole heart. In this podcast, she shares her path to healing... after some big bumps called bulimia and feelings of no self-worth.

Alana developed an eating disorder before she was a teenager. All she knew was that her self-worth was completely wrapped up in how she looked.

In her 30's, she entertained the thought that there might be a miracle out there for her somewhere and that she might free herself from this disease. Through introspection, deep healing, and the shifting of old stories, she discovered her true self-worth and made it her mission to heal body, mind, and spirit.

Alana lives free of her eating disorder and reminds others that the possibilities for your life are endless. Love yourself. Forgive yourself. Kick shame to the curb - perfection too - and get the support you need.

Alana knows she is a miracle... and, so are you. Self-love is the answer. You are already enough. You're worth this amazing healing journey!

Susi Gott Séguret joins me from Madison County, NC.

Her amazing bio is below...

To counteract doubts, Susi reminds us to make friends with fear, and doubt our darling. She does this by pausing, deep breaths, and dancing barefoot in the grass.

She says, "I remember why I'm here every day. I love what is real."

Letting go of imperfections has us notice the mountains, the stars, the violets...

As a gifted chef, she also uses knives as an analogy for life. We are "slicing through life. If our knife is dull, it creates resistance, and if it's sharp, it's easier." Also, "what might be dulling your knife?"

Susi believes life can be easy and enjoyable. Our momentary choices make it easy or hard.

We get to release perfection, and know with certainty every day that we are indeed enough!

Susi's Bio:

Susi Gott Séguret, fiddler, photographer, author, chef, is a long-time veteran of Appalachian music and history. Born and raised in Madison County, NC, she honed her culinary skills in France, where she resided for over 20 years, earning a diploma in Gastronomy and Taste from the Cordon Bleu and the Université de Reims. Currently based once again in her native county, Susi directs the Seasonal School of Culinary Arts, with sessions in Asheville, Ithaca, Sonoma, and Paris, and orchestrates the Asheville Truffle Experience, the Asheville Wine Experience, and the Appalachian Culinary Experience (a series of foraging-cooking-dining events). She is author of Appalachian Appetite: Recipes from the Heart of America and Child of the Woods: an Appalachian Odyssey, and can be reached at www.susigott.com, and www.schoolofculinaryarts.org.

With me today is Gordon Galzerano, Senior Director, Next Generation and Leadership Programs at Cisco.

We all have doubts. Gordon reminds us that when we doubt, we must pause, check-in, and look at the root cause. Self-doubt is only powerful when left unchecked, and action leads to self-motivation and the silencing of the doubts.

He reminds us of the great quote by Vincent Van Gogh:

"If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced."

Doubts are human. Doubt your doubts. And find a tribe of believers that bring out your very best!
