There's a saying used by wing and clay target enthusiasts that goes like this. You can never have enough shotguns. There's a lot of truth to that statement, but it today's world, getting those shotguns might not be as easy as you might expect. This is especially true of the guns manufactured in Europe. This week Marty welcomes Jon Reddout, GM of Intellicase, the exclusive distributor of for Negrini Cases in the U.S. Negrini is located in northern Italy, which also happens to be where many of the best Italian shotguns are manufactured. Marty and Jon will discuss the state of the gunmaking industry during the Covid-19 virus pandemic. Jon will also provide us with some information on the production at Negrini. In addition Marty and Jon will showcase some great Negrini products.

Without question the world as we have known it has changed over the past few weeks. The great international wing and clay target trips we discuss are at a standstill. Travel in America is at best at a crawl. This week Marty welcomes an old friend, John Wiles, to the show to discuss the state of the international wingshooting world as well as to discuss the latest craze for the wing and clay shooter - simulated driven. The simulated driven game started in the UK as real birds got too expensive. The shoots take on the same royalty treatment, but the birds are replaced by clay targets - thousands of them. John will have a great perspective on what's going on in the world and his understanding of the simulated driven shooting will be eye opening.

We're living in interesting times. The virus pandemic has the world literally at a standstill, but the wing and clay target world still has some legs. This week Marty catches up with Alex Becker from Etowah Valley Game Preserve in north Georgia and Greg Elliott, father of Team USA member Christian Elliott.
We'll talk wingshooting and how things are progressing in the hunting preserve industry with Alex. In that conversation we'll get an update on how the current season went and talk about the '20-21 season as well.
Then we'll switch gears and get a parent's and coach's perspective from Greg Elliott. Greg's son Christian just went through a grueling Olympic trial in hopes of making the 2020 Olympic team as a skeet shooter. Greg is also a certified Olympic coach, so his thoughts on his family's journey toward an Olympic berth will be most informative.

There are lots of shooting instructors throughout the world these days, but not many true teachers. This week Marty welcomes a shooting teacher to he show in David Dobson, the Head Coach of the Jacksonville University Shooting Team. As we have noted on prior Wing & Clay Nation episodes, clay target shooting is the fastest growing scholastic and collegiate sport in America. David Dobson has been teaching shooters since 1998, and in 2009 he founded the Jacksonville University Shooting Team. Over the years, the team has had remarkable success with numerous individual national champions in trap, skeet and sporting clays as well as divisional national championships for the overall team. Marty and David will discuss at length the rise in collegiate clay target shooting as well as how David turned JU into a national power.

Without question the fastest growing segment of the clay target industry is found in youth shooting. It is easy to see that the high school and college clay target shooting programs, air rifle and small bore rifle shooting is at an all time high, as there are far more youth shooters on ranges these days than ever before. This week Marty welcomes Scott Reynolds, the new Executive Director of the Midway USA Foundation. This Foundation started by Larry and Brenda Potterfield has donated tens of millions of dollars to youth shooting programs from junior high through college. In 2019 the Foundation paid grants to almost 3,000 school, 4-H and Scholastic Clay Target Program teams. The teams have skin in the game too and Marty and Scott will provide a full breakdown as to how the Foundation endowment grants work.

This week Marty welcomes Jason Beard from The KT Team, Inc to the show. Jason was paralyzed from the neck down in a diving incident in 1995, but he has moved his life forward including a passion for hunting. He and hunting partner Kerry Terrell founded The KT Team in 2018. The organization provides outdoor experiences for physically challenged individuals, including wing and clay target shooting. Marty and Jason will discuss the challenges these hunts and excursions pose to KT Team volunteers.
Marty will also have the latest wing and clay industry news as well as updates on recently completed and future clay target events across the country.

Thiis week Marty welcomes Casey Rennert , the owner of Renair Shotgun Sports and developer of the new age Claybot to the show. The Claybot is a revolutionary mechanical system that allows shooters to change target presentations during practice sessions with the push of a button. The system literally allows for any target presentation that the trap machine is capable of throwing. The system is on wheels and is motorized so the trap can be moved to a different position, again with the push of a button. Renair has a number of models of the Claybot and Marty and Casey will provide a full rundown of the products.

Tens if not hundreds of thousands of junior high, high school and college students are shooting clay targets competitively these days and shooters, parents and coaches need an information source to help them with all things clay target shooting. This week Marty welcomes Cheryl Schindler from the Paragon School of Sporting to the show. Cheryl and her husband Dan have put together a Facebook page that will give new and experienced shooters a social media community location to get questions about shooting as well as concise information that they can use. In the first show of 2020 Marty welcomes upland bird hunting expert Scott Linden to the show. Scott is a book author, magazine writer, social influencer, blogger and founder of the hit TV series, Wingshooting USA, the most watched upland bird hunting TV series ever.
Scott also created official TV series for groups like the Boy Scouts of America, the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the National Sporting Clays Association. His book, What the Dogs Taught Me is set to be released soon for its third printing, this time in paperback.

If there is a more complete shooting facility than the Cardinal Shooting Center anywhere in the world, we need to know about it. This facility is literally a shooting sports resort destination as it includes thinks like trap, skeet, sporting clays, 5-Stand, RV parking, swimming pool, full service restaurant and multiple campsites. This week Marty visits with Jake and Luke Spengler, who manage the shooting operation, direct the various shoots at the facility as well as the various shooting venues. The facility is accustomed to hosting thousands of shooter and their families for large events and Marty and the guys will discuss all things Cardinal Shooting Center on this show. Should provide lots of great information that shooters can use.
It's a safe bet that every upland bird hunter, waterfowler and clay target shooter in the world has questions about quality and capability of the shotgun shells they use. This week Marty welcomes Tom Roster, the foremost shotshell ballistics expert in the world to Wing & Clay Nation radio. For four decades Tom has been the go to expert for ammo manufacturers around the world when it comes to shotshell performance. Marty and Tom will discuss clay target ammo as well as lead and all types of non-toxic shot and loads. Tom will provide the most up to date data available.
Roster has been involved in compiling the most extensive testing and terminal ballistics performance data base on both lead and non-toxic ammo. More than 28,000 ducks and geese, 225 turkeys, 1000 pheasants and 1,300 doves have been harvested x-rayed and studied to compile this data.

The vast majority of hunting and shooting facilities are family owned businesses. Granted some are corporately owned, but most tend to be mom and pop operations. This week Marty visits with the Becker brothers, owners and operators of Etowah Valley Game Preserve and Etowah Valley Sporting Clays located in Georgia north of Atlanta. Alex and Phillip Becker have been entertaining upland bird hunters and clay target shooters for almost two decades at the two facilities that are on separate properties, but serve the same markets.
Marty will get into all things upland bird hunting and clay shooting with the Beckers. They have found that the two markets are often much the same people, but with the resurgence of ladies and youth shooting, primarily in the clay target world, there are extended opportunities to introduce new hunters to great gamebird hunting.
This will be a great show that focuses on both wingshootng and clay shooting - in a family sort of way.
Most hunters and shooters don't think much about insuring their guns against loss or making sure their hunting club has proper liability insurance. Range owners know they have to have insurance, but the often don't really understand it. This week Marty visits with an expert on the subject of firearm and outdoor insurance. Brit Barker of Coastal Plains Outdoors has been in the outdoor insurance business for decades. Brit and Marty will discuss all things insurance as it pertains to your personal firearms, taxidermy and other valuables, your hunting club insurance and how insurance works for shooting clubs. This is sure to be an information packed episode with lost of very pertinent info that you can use.
Over the past few years, the rise in youth clay target shooting in high schools has naturally filtered over into colleges and universities. This week, Marty welcomes former Lindenwood University Head Shooting Coach and current ACUI Shotgun Sports consultant, Shawn Dulohery, back to Wing & Clay Nation radio. Shawn was a guest when he coached the Lindenwood shotgun team. The ACUI has been the sanctioning body for collegiate shooting for 50 years, and there are more college shotgun teams than ever before.
Marty and Shawn will discuss the collegiate shotgun game as well as provide information on how college students can get involved in the shotgun sports at their chosen university. Some universities offer scholarships for shooting, while others support collegiate club teams run by the students themselves.
Marty will also provide a recap of the recent NSCA Sporitng Clays Championship in addition to his informative Wing & Clay News Segment.
The one great thing about LIVE radio and modern day technology is that LIVE remote broadcasts are common these days. This week Marty takes Wing & Clay Nation radio on the road to The National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas for the National Sporting Clays Association National Championship. Marty will have a number of guests on the show from Executive Director of NSCA and NSSA Michael Hampton, Jr. to industry leaders and shooters. This event attracts more than 2,000 shooters from all over the world. With the various shooting events offered at the National Championship, those shooters will make up almost 10,000 entries within those various competitions.
This will be a terrific show for anyone who enjoys shooting sporting clays, FITASC or 5-Stand Sporting.
As we have discussed on Wing & Clay Nation radio in the past, there are more people shooting clay targets than ever before. This has largely been fueled by the youth clay target shooting programs in high schools and colleges. The USA Shooting Team has benefited greatly from these programs as these young shooters are now making a name for themselves in Olympic shooting. This is certainly the case with Olympic bunker trap, where he US has struggled to be competitive in world competitions. Times have changed and this week, Marty visits with Hank Garvey, a designer of Olympic bunker trap venues, a coach and father of an up and coming Olympic bunker trap shooter. Many consider Olympic bunker trap to be the most difficult clay target discipline in the world, and Marty and Hank will discuss all things bunker trap.

One of the truly iconic sporting clays facilities in America is Cherokee Rose Shooting Resort in Griffin, GA just south of Atlanta. In the early 1990s, The Rose was known as the Disneyworld for Shotgunners as shooters could shoot sporting clays, 5-Stand, trap, skeet, high dove towers and even the StarShot game that was seen back then on ESPN. Well...The Rose is under new ownership, as Brett Moyes has left his NSCA Director's position and is the new Owner/Operator of Cherokee Rose. Brett and Marty will talk in depth about Brett's vision for Cherokee Rose and the sporting clays game in general. Brett has been in the sporting game at a high level for almost two decades, and his insight on all things sporting will be very interesting. Brett says that The Rose will once again be The Rose. That alone makes this a must listen to episode.

This week Marty welcomes he manager of his personal gun club, Forest City Gun Club in Savannah, GA. Zac Guerrettaz has been on all sides of the gun club management business, and he's found a home at in Savannah while managing the oldest continuously operated shotgun range in America Forest City Gun Club was founded in 1883, has hosted the World Skeet Shooting Championship 9 times as well as the Krieghoff Skeet Championship, multiple regional and state sporting clays championships and much more. FCGC has also been the NSSA/NSCA Overall Club of the Year. While the club is private, the members allow outside events in the form of registered trap, skeet and sporting clays as well as a number of local charity events each year. Zac also manages the FCGC Junior team, which came home from the SCTP National Championship with 10 individual National Champions. Marty and Zac will discuss the gun club business, target setting, events management and youth shooting. Great show!

Charles owns Northeast Arkansas Outfitters, a waterfowl guide service headquartered in Jonesboro, AR. Charles is also one of the best duck callers in the world, and his run of top finishes in the World Duck Calling Championship and Senior World are legendary.
Marty and Charles will talk duck hunting and calling and with take a close look at the state of duck hunting in the Mississippi River delta in eastern Arkansas. With 30 years of guiding experience in the region, Charles can provide a great insight into what's going on in the duck hunting world.

For more than two decades, duck hunters and later on dove hunters got a taste on how spinning wing products literally changed the wingshooting landscape around the world. This week Marty welcomes long time friend Terry Denmon, CEO of MOJO Outdoors to the show. Marty and Terry will relive the evolution of the spinning wing decoy and talk about the various products produced by MOJO for a variety of hunting situations. As of late, there are rumors that the great shooting days are over and the bird numbers just aren't what they once were. This week Marty welcomes old friend John Wiles of Best Wingshooting.com to the show to separate fact from fiction. John has been booking clients to South America for years, and if anyone knows the lay of the land and the bird numbers, it's John. We'll also talk about other great wingshoting venues around the world, but because so many hunters travel to the various South American countries, primarily Argentina, the focus will be on setting the record straight. There are many great sporting clays events held around the world each year. One of the world attended majors is the World English, which alternates between the U.S. and the U.K year after year. In 2019 the event will be at the Northbrook Sports Club located northwest of Chicago. Marty's guest this week is Brett Seibert, the General Manager of Northbrook and a member of the NSCA Executive Council that manages the competitive side of the sport in America. Marty and Brett will talk about many clay target issues, including an update on the World English, which already has around 1,100 shooters signed up. There are waterfowl hunters and there are iconic duck hunters that waterfowl enthusiasts look up to. This week, Marty welcomes Kirk McCullough, one of those icons who has mastered calling ducks in flooded green timber like few others. For the better part of five decades, Kirk has hunted the public flooded green timber river and creek bottoms in east central Arkansas, and his success as a hunter and guide are legendary. Marty and Kirk have hunted together many times, and this episode of Wing & Clay Nation will showcase some of those great hunts, but will also cover things like hunter ethics on public ground, calling and using a cut down duck call, setup strategies, decoy placement and much more. For those who don't know him, he was badly injured in a shooting accident years ago and lost most of his trigger hand. Can you imagine 30,000 high school student athletes shooting clay targets with a shotgun. Welcome to the USA Clay Target League, the sanctioning body for the USA High School Clay Target League that features 800+ teams in more than 20 states. Approximately 30,000 student athletes are a part of those 800+ teams. This week Marty visits with John Nelson, the President of the USA Clay Target League that was founded in 2008. Marty and John will talk all things youth and team shooting and provide information about how you can start a high school team in your area. For the record, the USA High School Clay Target League is a part of the largest clay target event in the world - the Minnesota State High School Trap Shooting Championship. This event is hole over nine days and features more than 8,500 competitors - all high school student athletes.

For the waterfowl hunter, there is no experience like seeing the migration up close and personal in the Western Canadian prairie region. Millions of ducks, geese and sandhill cranes move through this region of the country from early September until early November. This week Marty will be visiting with Mike Holman of Saskatoon Waterfowlers, one of the very best waterfowl hunting operators in all of Canada. Mike and Marty will discuss the ins and outs of hunting in Canada and will talk techniques from calling to decoys to hunter placement to great retrieving dogs.
