There's a saying used by wing and clay target enthusiasts that goes like this. You can never have enough shotguns. There's a lot of truth to that statement, but it today's world, getting those shotguns might not be as easy as you might expect. This is especially true of the guns manufactured in Europe. This week Marty catches up with Alex Becker from Etowah Valley Game Preserve in north Georgia and Greg Elliott, father of Team USA member Christian Elliott.

Without question the fastest growing segment of the clay target industry is found in youth shooting. It is easy to see that the high school and college clay target shooting programs, air rifle and small bore rifle shooting is at an all time high, as there are far more youth shooters on ranges these days than ever before. This week Marty welcomes Scott Reynolds, the new Executive Director of the Midway USA Foundation. This Foundation started by Larry and Brenda Potterfield has donated tens of millions of dollars to youth shooting programs from junior high through college. In 2019 the Foundation paid grants to almost 3,000 school, 4-H and Scholastic Clay Target Program teams. The teams have skin in the game too and Marty and Scott will provide a full breakdown as to how the Foundation endowment grants work.

Jason was paralyzed from the neck down in a diving incident in 1995, but he has moved his life forward including a passion for hunting. He and hunting partner Kerry Terrell founded The KT Team in 2018. The organization provides outdoor experiences for physically challenged individuals, including wing and clay target shooting. Marty and Jason will discuss the challenges these hunts and excursions pose to KT Team volunteers.

The vast majority of hunting and shooting facilities are family owned businesses. Granted some are corporately owned, but most tend to be mom and pop operations. This week Marty visits with the Becker brothers, owners and operators of Etowah Valley Game Preserve and Etowah Valley Sporting Clays located in Georgia north of Atlanta. Alex and Phillip Becker have been entertaining upland bird hunters and clay target shooters for almost two decades at the two facilities that are on separate properties, but serve the same markets.

Over the past few years, the rise in youth clay target shooting in high schools has naturally filtered over into colleges and universities. This week, Marty welcomes former Lindenwood University Head Shooting Coach and current ACUI Shotgun Sports consultant, Shawn Dulohery, back to Wing & Clay Nation radio. Shawn was a guest when he coached the Lindenwood shotgun team. The ACUI has been the sanctioning body for collegiate shooting for 50 years, and there are more college shotgun teams than ever before.

Zac Guerrettaz has been on all sides of the gun club management business, and he's found a home at in Savannah while managing the oldest continuously operated shotgun range in America Forest City Gun Club was founded in 1883, has hosted the World Skeet Shooting Championship 9 times as well as the Krieghoff Skeet Championship, multiple regional and state sporting clays championships and much more. FCGC has also been the NSSA/NSCA Overall Club of the Year. While the club is private, the members allow outside events in the form of registered trap, skeet and sporting clays as well as a number of local charity events each year. Welcome to the USA Clay Target League, the sanctioning body for the USA High School Clay Target League that features 800+ teams in more than 20 states. Approximately 30,000 student athletes are a part of those 800+ teams. This week Marty visits with John Nelson, the President of the USA Clay Target League that was founded in 2008.
