Cosplay photographer and editor in chief of Cosplay Double Double Mag, Veronica Scallion is back on the podcast to review her experience at this summer Montreal Comic Con (2022 edition). 3 years later Mirage Esports is breaking boundaries and winning local tournaments such as Lan ETS and Dreamhack Montreal. It is not a small feat as the team is in stiff competition against North American teams in games such as League of Legends, Rocket League, and this year: Rainbow 6 Siege. I sat down with the founder Yannick Babin (@mig_babinski) to talk about the longevity so far of the organization, what has he learned so far, the esports "bubble", and players expectations when it comes to esports organization. The only convention that has been pushed back in 2020 that is still going to attempt to launch is Geek-It (@geekitcon) near Halloween, for 3 days, at the old port. Last year was their first convention in Montreal, and their sophomore year (this year) was a rocky start. In my previous life, I would roam the nightlife. One of my favourite DJs would be DJ J-Fro (@1djffro). Covid-19 halted the nightlife and a lot of people jumped on Twitch streaming. I encouraged J-Fro to jump also but he was buying his time to get it right. Now he has a steady stream 3 times a week, but at first, it was a bit of a struggle. Let it be esports, artists, cosplay, or photography: does gear or materials matter. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Can having the correct gear help you? yes. But without knowledge of how to use it correctly, it is only half of the battle. First comes the person who has mastered the craft, then comes the effective gear. You can give Link the master sword at level 1, but it will be a hero with only 3 container heart instead of 12. PSA: don't forget the person who is creating the craft, playing the game, doing the cosplay - its not only the gear.
