Magic, illusion, and the love for wild animals filled the life of Siegfried and Roy. Their elaborate and often glitzy shows bewitched millions around the globe and helped Las Vegas become what it is today. So, it is only natural that their legend inspired many stories, some true and some pure fiction.

I love fiction, don’t get me wrong, after all, I am an author of fantasy and fiction novels. But when it comes to telling the life stories of real people and in this case, about the lives of two men that were larger than life I stick to the truth. Now that being said, I am very fortunate to know a person that shared many years with Siegfried and Roy and offered to share many great stories with us. This extraordinary person is no other than Dennie Pasion, their stylist and friend. If you are a regular listener of my podcast, you got to know Dennie from some of my previous interviews. This upcoming podcast is a tribute to Siegfried and Roy, their animals, and trainers.

Till then, take care and be bold keep breaking the mould.

In this episode of "Be bold and break the mould",  I am chatting with the author Anne Fox from El Paso, Texas.

Anne’s passions are travelling, writing, reading, and spending time with her three cats. She is a firearms enthusiast, instructor, competitive marksman, and FAA-certified commercial pilot. Her books are so fascinating, spellbinding and authentic that they hold the reader’s attention completely.

Anne’s Series The Unit skilfully blend’s her passion for marksmanship, flying and her unique imagination and gives her books that exceptional edge. Camp Chaos, the first book of The Unit series, was published in February of 2019, with books continuing to be added to the series.

In this episode of Be Bold and break the Mould, I’ll introduce you to Ian Ivey, who has been a good friend of mine for many years.

Ian is a firework of creative ideas, a guru in marketing and business strategies, but most of all, he is a great lecturer. He rekindles the spark of innovation, boosts the self-esteem and enthusiasm in everyone he meets.

He loves and respects nature and works closely with the native tribes in his home country New Zealand. He told me that, in his opinion, one of the fascinating aspects of Maori culture and tradition is that their Whakapapa (ancestry). Whakapapa connects them with every living thing – plants, animals, humans, microbes, and everything else that is alive. To Ian, it is something most humans forgot as they became disconnected from their Whakapapa. And only view ancestry in terms of human relatives disconnected from everything else on the planet. “This leads to a place that is quite scary and could eventually lead to the extinction of the human race. We overpopulate the planet, use resources up at a rate much higher than they are replaced. As a result, polluting the land, sea, air, and water generates increasing amounts of toxic legacies nuclear waste, persistent chemical wastes like PFAs, heavy metals, 80,000 non-tested chemicals added to just about every product we use, plastic waste building up everywhere, including in our food chains. I am becoming more immersed in the indigenous culture here in N.Z. It teaches me so much about the fundamental basics of sustainability, i.e. we are connected to and interact with every other entity and the environment within which we live.”

The British writer Barbara Spencer was born in Bowdon, in Cheshire, grew up in Birmingham and could have lived an everyday and quiet life, but that was not for her.

Since her earliest youth Barbara was an avid cricket fan would not miss a match. She followed her favourite team throughout Europe and later the Caribbean. She fell in love with the laid-back lifestyle and beauty of the islands and accepted a job offer as a teacher in a secretarial college in Barbados and Grenada. But soon, her teaching career took her on to New York, Greece, France, and the Middle East.

Barbara remembers these years as a fascinating time of her life. She was present at the Black Power Riots in the West Indies, witnessed the overthrow by the military junta in Greece and the war in Lebanon. Found herself in the middle of a battle and fled Beirut, sitting on the floor of a taxicab.

After these wild years, Barbara returned to Great Britton, became a qualified swimming teacher and judge. She taught children to swim, lend her expertise to the Street & district Swimming Club, and watched her daughter train or compete for the rest of the week. While sitting at the edge of the pool watching her daughter swim, Barbara began to write and has not stopped ever since. She writes the most fascinating stories in many different genres, is an avid blogger and travels throughout the UK for book signing events.

Interview with the children's author Lesley Cordell

April 30, 2021

Ursula Williams with Lesley Cordell

Description

In this episode, you will meet Lesley Cordell, who more than once broke the mould. She was one of the first female recruits to train alongside male officers and even stood her ground when things got tuff. Her courageous handling of protesters at the Suffolk Riots gained her the recognition of Scotland Yard and landed her in a training video. After thirty years of service, she returned home to Letchworth to care for her father, who had dementia and Parkinson's disease. After settling back into her former home, she searched for her childhood friends and found her first love, whom she married two years later. Lesley enjoys her life as a retiree and spends her free time gardening, travelling, and writing.

This episode is to answer requests many of you made concerning my life in the Caribbean.
On September 7. 2004, Hurricane Ivan, a category 4 storm, wreaked havoc for more than six hours on the Island of Grenada. It damaged or destroyed 90 per cent of houses, leaving more than 50% of the one hundred thousand islanders homeless and claimed 39 lives. The island’s agricultural sector was almost 80% destroyed. The islands hotels and yacht harbours and its infrastructure lay in ruins.
Ivan was the second of the two hurricanes to spawn more than 100 tornadoes in the 2004 hurricane season. The 120 tornadoes produced by Ivan are the most of any hurricane or tropical storm on record and left $1 billion in damages in its path, most of it on Grenada's island. (2004 USD)
