The drinks quiz that nobody asked for is back! Actually, a few people did actually ask for it in the last few months so we were happy to oblige.
Can Will recover from the disaster of his last showing on this quiz?

In this episode you'll learn what the beverage trends are in South Korea as Foxy recounts his observations and insights from two (!) recent trips to Seoul.
In another of Foxy's Tales, Biz Bev Pod's very own Padraig Fox gives his view on all he learned in Korea: from robot waiters to "no brand" cola to "Kelly's" local lager and the 24 hr MEGA coffee culture, we take a tour of one of the most exciting markets in the world right now.
If you liked this then check out his guide to the beverage markets of Kenya, Kazakhstan and the USA on previous episodes.

In this episode you'll learn how the "third age" of coffee has presented challenges and opportunities for coffee distributors. Paddy Sands and Michael Ingle explain how a very safe, stable, well established coffee business decided the time was right to take a risk and vertically integrate.
The new Roasthouse is a big investment for a small company like Tall Order but it's already paying dividends for a company that had generations of knowledge of the coffee business. What changed in recent years to drive a change in strategy for a a successful distributor to become involved in roasting? We talk sourcing, roasting, tonnage, blending, margins and "cupping"...

In this episode you'll learn why Will & Foxy are pressing pause on producing new podcast episodes for the moment.
63 episodes is an odd number of episodes to have in our first season of BizBevPod but it just turned out that was because we had so much success so quickly that we didn't take our planned first season break, we just kept going, delivering brilliant insights from fantastic guests from all around the world.
However, now's the right time for us to take a breath and plan out the next season of BizBevPod and we are looking for partners to help explode the potential of our podcast, already the most influential in the global drinks industry. If you have an idea and are willing to work with us, drop us a line at bizbevpod@gmail.com

In this episode you'll learn how one brewer is working on a technology that would allow beer to be concentrated down and reformulated back up without an impact on its quality, opening up a whole world of possibilities.
Jasmin Vollrath is a "conservative" German brewer with experience brewing every beer style imaginable but she's working with Alfa Laval on their "Revos" technology. This has the potential to revolutionise how beer is processed, transported and served. We couldn't help but get excited by the ways this could work.
We also talk about the Hagstragavanza beer festival, lighthouses and what teenagers really want from their parents...

In this episode you'll learn what's happening in Rwanda and Kenya as Foxy reports on the local beverage scene and updates on the trends on the ground.
In the third of "Foxy's Tails", Padraig Fox gives us his stories and insights from a recent trip to Africa (& Portugal!). Coffee, beer, cocktails, you name it, he drank it. From craft brewery tap rooms to swanky hotels, from airport concessions to street side bars, Foxy did the research so you don't have to! He tells stories of random encounters, lax security, "scheduled" riots and the one drink he'll never forget...
P.S. yes, that is Owen Wilson in the photo with Foxy. They met by chance in Kenya and Foxy forgot to tell the story in the interview!!! We'll save it for another time.

In this episode you'll learn how the entrepreneur's journey is so often determined by an element that they have little control over... luck.
Karen O'Neil was a guest on our desert island last year when the world was at the feet of her newly created "honey refresher", Beekon. She had been through her fair share of ups and down as a founder of a new to world start up but all the elements for success seemed to be lining up for Beekon to explode, metaphorically. Unfortunately it exploded literally... We explore what led up to that moment, the consequences and the chink of light at the end of the tunnel.
We don't have a Desert Island guest today as Foxy had his hands full, as you'll hear in the background!

A synthethic replacement for ethanol that has all of the benefits but none of the drawbacks seems like science fiction but David Orren from GABA Labs thinks they have cracked the code.
David is the MD and co-founder of GABA Labs, a potentially revolutionary start up that is aiming to produce a range of replacements for ethanol. These scientifically researched, but yet to be approved, ingredients could stimulate the same neuro-receptors in our brains as ethanol. According to David and his partner Prof. David Nutt, they could do it more accurately and they would be self limiting so over indulging would be impossible. But does the science stack up? How does it get FDA approval? And what sort of business model do you use when trying to disrupt one of humanities oldest industries?

In this episode you'll learn how perseverance as well as several failures in health and nutrition informed the eventual success of Vit Hit, one of the fastest growing international health drinks.
Vit Hit founder, Gary Lavin joins us to talk about the painstaking evolution of Vit Hit from an vague idea to international success via some setbacks. Gary's time as a professional rugby player gave him confidence, resilience and an interest in nutrition. He needed all of those in order to grow a fledgling health drink into an international player that has tackled bigger brands into touch.

In this episode you'll learn how hops have out grown their status as the darlings of the brewing world and now need to demonstrate that they can contribute more sustainably and efficiently to beer.
Ed Kentish Barnes is the MD of Steiner Hops (part of the Hopsteiner group) and as a Master Brewer for almost 20 years, he knows the benefits that the right quality hops can bring to brewers. But the supply chain and energy crunch of recent years, together with chronic sustainability challenges are forcing hop breeders, farmers and brewers to become more innovative. Ed explains hop hops can meet these challenges head on.

In this episode you'll learn what's happening on the ground in Philadelphia as our very own Pádraig Fox gives us a view on what the city of brotherly love has to offer the (not so) discerning drinker.
Foxy goes from co-host to guest again this week. He has previously reported on the drinking culture and trends in Kazakhstan but this time he's in the US of A, in a city new to him but familiar to many through film, TV and song. Foxy gives his views on how to navigate the 4 types of bar in Philly: Irish, Belgian, Celebrity and Dive. He also contrasts European and US drinks trends, remarks on the lack of St. Patricks Day themed Green Beer and ponders why It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia lied to him...
On our Desert Island, Ed Kentish Barnes, MD of Steiner Hops UK, makes best use of his experience as a Master Brewer, distiller and hop expert to choose a drink but his choice of vessel is as quirky as it is quintessentially English.

In this episode you'll learn how the beer market in China is developing at a rapid pace, with evolving drinking culture, local recipe inspiration (Duck Shit Tea is a real thing!) and increased connectivity with the rest of the brewing world.
Neil Playfoot of Asian Beer Network is our guide as he introduces us to the dynamics of the largest volume market for beer in the world where even in the last 13 years, changes in consumption and production habits have been profound. Having worked in England, France, Bermuda, Armenia and as one of the most experienced craft brewers in China he's perfectly placed to compare the contrasting beer cultures across countries and continents.
On our Desert Island, we have another hands on creator, Christopher Goggins of the Dublin Liberties Distillery. Christopher is a skilled distiller who started out in the "romance" side of the business as a tour guide & brand ambassador. However his love for talking about Irish Whiskey led him to change career and as a "maker not a taker"!

Will and Foxy talk to Miika Salmi Lipiäinen one of the 5 brave co-founders of Kyrö Distillery Company who's naked ambition has seen them go from a sauna drinkers to serious distillers. Their rye based spirits from Nothern Finland have made quite the impression on markets around the world and, whilst their story is typical of so many craft brewers/distillers, the way they have achieved their success to date has seen them use all their available assets. (No more puns, we promise).

In this episode you'll learn how a host of passionate and well informed experts battle Will's suspicion of Wine to convince him that there's innovation, excitement and, ultimately, hope for the category.
Will is a self confessed "wine sceptic", frustrated by his perception of the industry's slavish devotion to tradition and glacial pace of innovation. However, it's a new year so Will has resolved to educate himself in the company of some of the best Wine experts on the planet.
"Irish Wine writer of the Year™" Susan Boyle returns to BizBevPod to co-host in the enforced absence of Foxy and she brings her charm and deep category knowledge to bear on proceeding. Dividing her time between Dublin and Paris where her work includes writing, broadcasting and sampling (!) wines.
Our main interviewee, Steve Rannekleiv, is the Executive Director of Food & Agri-business Research at Rabobank, host of the Liquid Assets Podcast and general wine industry sage. Steve advises many of the biggest producers, exporters, importers and distributors of wine on the overall state of the category, the key trends and economic watch outs from across the globe. Who better to cast a dispassionate eye on the opportunities and challenges for the category?
On our Desert Island Drink slot we welcome the bubbly Elly Owen a Sommelier and Wine educator based in beautiful Cornwall. Elly wants to bring simple and carefree wines to people everywhere but will she stick to those principles if she can only choose one drink for the island?

In this episode you'll learn how to approach beverage innovation at a project and an organisational level from someone who's been at the cutting edge of global innovation management in Diageo, SAB Miller and Costa/Coca-Cola.
Gráinne Gilsenan began her career as an innovation brewer with Guinness and quickly realised that she wanted to write the NPD briefs, not just respond to them. Thereafter her path took her through global roles looking after "Beyond Beer" for SAB Miller and "Beyond Coffee" for Costa. She reflects on the key ingredients to brilliant innovation and NPD and how "killing your own ideas" is the real sign of success.
On our Desert Island Drink segment we have the closest thing to an NPD rock star as possible... Steve Grasse. The man who famously pitched the concepts for Hendrick's Gin and Sailor Jerry's rum in the same week. Steve is a marketing agency chief, distillery owner and author, amongst a host of other things. He talks beaver anus flavoured whiskey, the TTB and why we all misunderstand the Dunce Cap (really).

In this episode you'll learn how an academic approach to studying the Australian Craft Beer scene has given greater insights into how brewers large and small avoid transparency for short term gain but at the cost of long term credibility.
Will talks to Professor André Sammartino, from the University of Melbourne in Australia about the 12 "Golden Rules" for success in enterprise and how these apply to brewing and distilling businesses. But the conversation then takes a deep dive into the questionable practices of micro and macro brewers over the last 25 years in Australia as they sought to create their own myths in the pursuit of selling beer. The learnings are relevant all over the globe and far beyond the brewing industry.
In place of our regular Desert Island Drink slot, Foxy's first "Uncle Travelling Pat" slot (*Name TBC) dives deeper into his impressions of Kazakhstan and it's nascent drinking culture, unique hospitality and salty fermented milk beverages.
Plus we talk about Will's fancy dress philosophy, the origin of Pumpkin Beers and how Halloween is really Irish (like evrything else).

The most Japanese of all drinks has hit the headlines around the world as growing exports but falling consumption at home have caused issues for brewers and the taxman alike. Luckily Kyoko Nagano of Sake Lovers Inc. was available to help guide Will through the very basics of how Sake is made, what makes it unique, how the traditional brewers are being challenged by changing tastes and demographics but also the new opportunities that are being developed for this most ancient of drinks.
For the Desert Island Drink, John Kelly returns to the pod yet again, giving us a short and sweet view of his go to drink if he was all alone and in need of some comfort.
We also discuss Foxy's first impressions of Kazakhstan (really), his (hazy) memories of drinking Sake in Toyko and Will's coffee confusion.

In this episode you'll learn how the undervalued art of whisky blending is being given new life by a young team based in Edinburgh but with international ambitions. However despite the seeming rude health of the category they sound the alarm over the ever escalating speculative frenzy between flippers, fraudsters and brands who are fulling the fire.
Host Will Keating sits down for an exclusive and in depth interview with Pete Allison and Duncan McRae from Woven Whisky. They are bringing an independent and conceptual take on the traditional art of blending with stunning success in their first year in business. However despite the positive momentum in almost all sectors of the industry, they are cautious about some of the hype that is bringing short term gains for some in Whisky but at the cost of long term stability and growth. We get int the nitty gritty but there is a positive story there in the end and a world exclusive on their plans for a future beyond Scotch.

In this episode you'll learn why why non-linear thinking led to a "smack-down" for Hard Seltzer, why the US beer market is so complex and what the economic fundamentals tell us about the log term health of the category.
Lester Jones is the Chief Economist and VP of Analytics at the National Beer Wholesalers Association in the USA. With a deep love of beer, an astute economic mind and access to an unrivalled network of data, Lester is the foremost expert on the state of the beer market in the US. Recent years have seen the plateauing of Craft, the bedding in of the AB InBev mega merger and the boom /bust (?) of Hard Seltzer. On top of the impact of the pandemic, these events have led many to question the pre-eminence of Beer. Inflation and supply constraints are increasing short term concerns too but Lester has the insight into the real state of play. It's not all doom and gloom...

In this episode you'll learn how the rapid progression of cutting edge technology is changing how people socialise and therefore how, what, where and when they drink.
Will and Foxy have plenty of opinions on this topic as they reflect on the "constant change" in our interactions with tech and drink, from the historical to the next wave. But to get a better informed perspective we share a discussion that Will was part of for the Persuaders Media & Marketing radio programme on Dublin City FM recently. There Alex Gibson (TU Dublin Head of Digital Marketing) and Ben Finnegan (Head of eSports and Gaming at EPIC Global & host of TBD podcast) help tease out the issues that range from the frivolous to the fundamental for our industry.
On our first visit back to our desert island in a couple of months, we talk to Dhavall Gandhi a Whiskey Master Blender whose talent is only matched by his determination to follow his dreams and carve out a career in an "uber-niche" pursuit.

In this episode you'll learn what is really happening in the Beer Industry in Ireland, Europe and around the world and, more importantly what the lessons and implications are for brewers, publicans and businesses.
We're on a roll... another live episode! This time we were invited to the 7th Beeronomics Conference at Trinity College Dublin to host a special round table discussion on the Beer Industry in Ireland. The audience of International Beer scholars, economists and academics had travelled from all over the world to discuss every aspect of the economics of beer from the historical to the hypothetical. Will took them out of their academic ivory towers and introduced them to some of the leading figures from the industry in Ireland who have real life experiences from the macro to the micro. Jonathan McDade is the Director of Drinks Ireland Beer, Noel Anderson is the Managing Director of a small but highly successful group of pubs in Dublin and John Kelly is the Strategic Director of Beverages for Kerry Group. They give honest, informed and hilarious insights into the real business of beer.

Back to the episode... In this episode you'll learn how Will and Foxy have, born out of humour & heartache, created one of the world's most successful Drinks Industry Podcasts in just one year.
At the suggestion of one of our guests we have decided to celebrate our official anniversary of the launch of the podcast with a reflection on how we got here and where we are going. We always focus our episodes on our guests and their experiences, stories and insights, whist chiming in with our own views and opinions but for a whole episode we talk solely about our favour subject... ourselves! We give a little bit of background into our shared history and what engendered the spark of curiosity that led to us starting BizBevPod. More importantly we discuss the hopes we have for the future of the podcast and how YOU can be part of them! It's a wide ranging conversation that features Will's love of Microsoft Excel, Foxy's random Boston GAA stories and a genuine affection and friendship that is framed through our shared love of drinks.
For our Desert Island Drink we also break all the rules and feature a tasting "on the island" with our in person special guest, Joe McGrath. Joe is our sound engineer and owner of the fantastic Hellfire Studios where we record the podcast. Not only that he is a keen whiskey enthusiast and when we received a special package of spirits to taste, we could think of nobody better to share them with than Joe.
It's a very different episode and we hope you enjoy the break from the norm!

In this episode you'll learn what challenges and opportunities one of the sharpest minds in marketing sees in the US drinks industry as categories converge and branding becomes more important than ever.
Will and special guest co-host Bourcard Nesin (of the Liquid Assets podcast) talk to Jonnie Cahill, the Chief Marketing officer of Heineken USA. Jonnie gives razor sharp analysis and insight into the current US drinks scene where consumers increasingly don't care what category a drink belongs to, they just want to be delighted with great liquids and beautiful brands. Seltzers, such as Heineken's Arizona Sunrise, loom large in the conversation but Jonnie explains how beer can innovate and grow well into the future, siting the example of Heineken 0.0, a brand he helped create.
For our Desert Island Drink Foxy sneaks back into studio and we talk to Simon Thompson of Thompson Bros. Distilling from Dornach on the East coast of Scotland. Simon gives a very different perspective on distilling for flavour in a distillery the size of a shed and using ingredients like heritage barleys and brewers yeasts. Simon also proves he's one clever bucko when it comes to thinking about what drink to choose for the island a why.

In this episode you'll learn how the role of a Brand Ambassador can be one of the most simultaneously under AND over-rated jobs in the drinks industry plus we make a big announcement on bringing BizBevPod on the road!
Foxy and Will talk to Peter O'Connor owner of the fabulous Onda Cocktail Room in Lisbon. Peter is the prefect person to guide us through the seemingly glamourous world of the Brand Ambassador, the most misunderstood job in drinks. Peter is a poacher-turned-gamekeeper-turned-poacher as he started work as an exceptional bartender before Brand Ambassador roles with Diageo and other companies in Ireland, the USA and around Europe before settling behind the bar of Onda. Peter talks with searing honesty about the highs and lows of being a Brand Ambassador.
For our Desert Island Drink we talk to Eoghan Walsh, the award winning Beer Writer based in Belgium. Eoghan talks about the thriving Belgian beer scene and bonding with his in-laws over beer and cycling.

In the words of Monty Python: "And now for something completely different..."
Christmas is a time for spending time with family and friends and at BizBevPod we're no different. We don't have an episode full of insight into the drinks industry as usual but we do have lots of mischief and music as we talk to our friend Dominic Scott, the writer/singer of the theme music that we use every week on the podcast. Dominic visits our desert island to talk about the drink he'd choose but more importantly to discuss the song writing process, how music and lyrics ebb and flow, and how progress can come quickly whilst perfection can sometimes take decades.
Plus we play out with the full version of his song, London Rome performed with his band Roundstone.
Normal service will resume in the New Year.
Because it's Christmas, why don't you click the link at the bottom to buy us a coffee by way of a Christmas present? We've been really good all year and are on the nice list, we promise.

In this episode you'll learn what the key Craft Beer branding trends are for 2022 and why Brand Values and Brand Architecture are more important than how you look on the shelf.
Foxy and Will talk to Isaac Arthur of CODO Design and BeerBrandingTrends.com about Craft Beer branding trends and much more as we explore the view of the market from a design agency point of view. Isaac has written the book on this topic and not only has an in depth knowledge of the aesthetics and design principles required to win in 2022 but he has keen understanding of the strategic fundamentals that any beverage business needs to get right BEFORE they start thinking about branding design/redesign.
For our Desert Island Drink we talk to Professor Sam Holloway about his wide variety of beverage enterprises and how his Crafting A Strategy organisation is an invaluable resource for small brewers seeking to learn and grow their strategic and management capabilities with a brewing specific focus, real world case studies and peer to peer support. Sam's choice is a surprise given he has dedicated his life to studying beer.

In this episode you'll learn what goes into designing a successful drinks brand, from the smallest details to the biggest challenges.
Foxy and Will were invited to a secret, private pub in an undisclosed Ulster location for an interview with one of the most creative, insightful and driven leaders in the global drinks industry, Richard Ryan.
Richard is a spirits savant, equally comfortable designing the best bars in the world (Merchant Hotel, The Dead Rabbit, BlackTail), scheming new brands into life for clients (Gunpowder Gin, Hinch Whiskey), developing world class brand homes (Roe & Co., Johnnie Walker Princess St.) or crafting his company's own portfolio of new to world brands (The Shamrock Whiskey, Jawbox Gin, Bowsaw Bourbon).
In a full length interview, Richard gives a masterclass in using design as a tool for building a brand, not merely creating a product. It is simply the best advice you will ever get on how to go about creating a drinks brand that will stand out, add value and achieve your goals.
Desert Island Drink will return in the next episode.

In this episode you'll learn what it take to win in the On Trade in a post covid world. We recorded a LIVE episode with three of Dublin's hottest venue owners to learn how they pack their bars and events.
Foxy and Will were thrilled to be invited by John Mahon and Ali Dunworth to host a live recording of our podcast at the Grub 'n& Gargle Festival at The Circular recently. We were even more please to have a chance to explore what it takes to win in the on trade these days with three of Dublin's best venue owners. With pubs, restaurants, festivals and events companies to their names Andy Noonan, Craig Reynolds and David Parle represent a new generation of publican/promoter. They explain how they take the entrepreneurial élan they got from starting out in nightclubs and bring it to their venues, discussing everything from the perils of gentrification and the protection of cultural spaces to draft wine systems.
We also drag them on a quick trip to our desert island to warm them up and find out what "one drink" they would bring with them if they were stranded.
Not only that but the multi talented Judith Boyle heckles from the floor with her "traditional" publicans hat on and Will's neighbour Bertie turns up to ask awkward questions about random pubs on Parnell St., as you do.

Brendan now operates The Free Consultancy, giving the benefit of his insights to clients, large and small, as they attempt to expand one of the fastest growing market segments. In this episode you'll learn why the man who single-handedly gave us one of the biggest beers in the world, Blue Moon, believes that his new cannabis beer might eclipse his previous success.
Dr. Keith Villa is a living legend in brewing circles, having not only created Blue Moon but also led the marketing and production from relatively humble beginnings to global success. For many, Blue Moon was the beer that opened their eyes (and taste buds) up to a world of flavours that mainstream lagers simply couldn't compare with. This arguably turbocharged the craft beer revolution and shaped the global beer market we know today. However Keith didn't stop there and his latest venture, Ceria Brewing, focuses on Cannabis infused beers and he describes the "Tsunami" of opportunity that legalisation creates. Keith also talks about how his new book, Brewing with Cannabis, giving practical advice for anybody wanting to start making Cannabis beers and beverages at any scale.
We also welcome another guest to our "Desert Island" where they can choose to bring only one drink with them. This time we hear from Tara Nurin, Beer Journalist, Author and Lecturer. Tara talks about her newly launched book: A Woman's Place Is In The Brewhouse and she explains how women's role in brewing has changed throughout history and how modern women are overcoming challenges to improve their representation and making brewing a better industry for all.

In this episode you'll learn what it takes to make the opening of your own bar a reality.
We've all done it, haven't we? Sat in a cosy corner of the pub and thought to ourselves... "I'd love to have my own bar". We all know it's an idle dream for most but many of us in the drinks industry still secretly harbour the ambition. But what does it take to actually make it happen? Well Kevin Demers from Montreal is an absolute authority on the subject as he made the jump from juggling bartending and professional Ice Hockey to opening his own bar, The Cold Room 5 years ago. The lessons he learned enabled him to follow up with El Pequeño and Parlement shortly after, giving a hat-trick of Canada's best bars. Now he consults on other bar openings and shares his knowledge and insights with us.
We also welcome another guest to our "Desert Island" where they can choose to bring only one drink with them. This time we hear from Carol Quinn, the Archivist for Irish Distillers, (part of Pernod Ricard). Carol has a very particular crow to pluck with Will and makes her case convincingly.

In this episode you'll learn how to do an equity pitch like a pro as we talk over-proofs, offers and optimum outcomes with the man who tamed TVs toughest dragons.
In the last episode we introduced you to dragon slayer Tom Hurst founder and CEO of Rockstar Spirits, following his raid on the the incredibly popular enterprise investment based Dragon's Den TV show in the UK. Tom had already caused quite a stir in the UK spirits scene when he had launched his range of over-proof spiced and flavoured rums. His first big break came when presenter Holly Willoughby couldn't hide her delight when trying his "Pineapple Grenade" live on This Morning. Doubling down on traditional media Tom then took to the Dragons Den looking to make the perfect pitch. We hear how he honed his technique, who he was really targeting before he entered the den and what really goes on behind the scenes.
We also welcome another guest to our "Desert Island" where they can choose to bring only one drink with them. This time we hear from the irrepressible Victor Lanson, a Champagne man, born and bred. Victor shoots from the hip as he talks to us about how hard it can be to sell a drink that "sells itself", his experiences of the highs and lows of launching his own brand of bubbly, the loss of 'mad' characters from the Champagne industry.
Not only that, Foxy and Will talk about the reaction to our WTF BrewDog? episode, LinkedIn's weird and wonderful professional groups and the meaning of the word "erstwhile".

In this episode, you’ll learn how Brewdog's faux punk veneer and constant shock tactics distract from craft beer's very own Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle.
You've heard of Brewdog, right? Those young, belligerent upstart brewers from Scotland, sticking it to the same old corporate giants only interested in Filthy Lucre? Always controversial, there is no doubt that Brewdog are masters of marketing and publicity, riding the lightning that they make to international success across categories, continents and companies. Their beers aren't too bad either. However do they treat the faithful army of "punks" they have created as mere pawns in a global game of high finance? Will (a sceptic) and Foxy (an "Equity punk") listen and learn from Dave Infante, a US based journalist whose recent reports on Brewdog go beyond their self-serving controversies and reveals the rising taste of hypocrisy no amount of IPA can wash away. Never mind the bollox, here's Dave.
We also welcome another guest to our "Desert Island" where they can choose to bring only one drink with them. This time we hear from dragon slayer Tom Hurst, following his raid on the the incredibly popular Dragon's Den TV show in the UK with his Rockstar Spirits company. Will he pick his trademark Pineapple Grenade or set his sights further along the top shelf?
Not only that, Foxy and Will talk about podcast fame (sort of), the rain splashed joys of an Irish summer and indoor pints!

In this episode, you’ll learn what two of the worlds' leading experts on the legal cannabis industry think the future holds and what the impact will be on the alcohol industry.
In an in depth discussion we hear from both Bourcard Nesin, Cannabis and Alcohol Analyst for Rabobank and Lisa Weser, Founder and CEO of Trail Blaze ("The Cannabis Publicist"). Taking things slowly at first we learn how the legal cannabis industry in North America has emerged from the fringes into the mainstream and how the growth experienced so far is set to accelerate. Hotly debated topics include the pace of legalisation, the target consumer, the role of CBD vs THC, the format wars and brand building in a uniquely challenging category. The big questions are asked and answered so if you don't know much about the legal cannabis industry and how it competes/compliments alcohol, this is the place to start because it's coming to a market near you!
We also welcome another guest to our "Desert Island" where they can choose to bring only one drink with them. This time we raid our archives to hear from Tom Lix, Founder and CEO of Cleveland Whiskey Co, one of the pioneers of accelerated aging techniques and a guest on episode 1.4. Tom prompts us to recall some of our favourite guests and interviews over our first ten episodes and prompt some recommendations for new listeners.
Not only that, Foxy and Will discuss the (eventual) launch of Guinness Zero, passing fads in the drinks industry (we're talking to you alcoholic root beer) and the mysterious "pod-fade"!

In this episode, you’ll learn how working in the family drinks business is more rewarding, complicated and challenging than working for global conglomerates.
We hear from Militza Zikatanova, Co-owner and Marketing Manager of Villa Melnik Winery in Bulgaria about her pre-ordained journey to joining a family business that was established specifically for her and her brother to run. Militza is frank about the conflicting pressures that come with working with and for your parents, a common feature in the drinks industry in production, distribution and hospo. Militza brings her own perspectives to the traditional & regional business from her experience studying in the USA and working in the UK for the biggest drinks business in the world. Plus she talks evocatively and with such passion about Bulgarian Wine that Will and Foxy are booked on the next plane to Sofia!
We also welcome another guest to our "Desert Island" where they can choose to bring only one drink with them. This time it's the turn of Lisa Weser, Founder and CEO of Trail Blaze, a pioneer in the world of legal Cannabis in North America. Lisa may be on the cutting edge professionally but she picks a stone cold classic for her desert island drink, one that we can't believe it has taken ten episodes to arrive at.
Not only that, Foxy discusses how he spends his days on "parental" leave, Will reflects on whether he could ever work in the family business and both lads show their numeric incompetence by celebrating our ninth episode, an episode late!
PS if you are wondering who the mystery voice is chipping on Lisa's DID, that would be the loquacious Bourcard Nesin!

We hear from Rob Fink the CEO and Founder of Big Drop Brewing, the first beer company who solely offer non alcoholic products. Rob explores the challenges and opportunities that come from being a total outsider to the drinks industry as you try to set up a successful business. It's an eclectic mix to be honest.
Not only that, Will and Foxy reflect on the proper way to drink a popular digestif and recount tales of flaming misadventures! Brewdog even gets a mention for some positive news (a rare event these days...).

In this episode, you’ll learn how one little bar magazine cuts through all the bullshit of spirits sales, cool bar hype and the patronising of bartenders.
We hear from Rebekkah Dooley, co-founder of Discard, a hospitality publication that breaks all the rules: Independent, Transparent & Bullshit Free. We learn how the magazine has given voice to the foot soldiers of an industry that have been abandoned by governments, manipulated by drinks companies and continuously undervalued. We also welcome another guest to our "Desert Island" where they can choose to bring only one drink with them. We talk with Tom Lix, Founder and CEO of Cleveland Whiskey Co, one of the pioneers of accelerated aging techniques that rely on cutting edge technology and old fashioned sensory techniques to create spirits that are truly unique. Tom describes how his colourful early career led to a fascination with distilling and eventually to the founding of Cleveland Whiskey Co, which he describes as "more of a technology company than a craft distiller". Tom also clarifies what legal restrictions he operates under, details his battles with the Scotch Whisky Association and talks about fermenting for astronauts!
