Here we are dearest Firesiders… It’s with a heavy heart I write this. The time has come to say goodbye. We have been making this show for almost a decade and it has given us all the best memories anyone could ask for. From the places we have gone to the people, we have met- all because of our mutual love of comic books. Join the guys for part one of a special two-part issue where Mendte, Mashko, Features, Baby Huey, and Mr. Maurer reminisce about everything that made this show so special to us. From how we have grown, to what we regret, the guys lay it all out there and try their best to explain how we came to this decision. Most of all though we want to thank you! Seriously, thank you so much. You gave us one of the best chapters of our lives. It’s not over just yet though Fireside family. Welcome back Fireside family. The world of comic-related current events seems to be taking a trip back to the familiar isles of Westeros. Even with the House of Hulks showing the world they are more than just a courtroom sitcom, nothing grabs your attention like a dragon. Now to be fair, at the time he didn’t know anything about what was coming, but we were less than supportive. He got the last laugh because these rumors are insane! There’s another disaster brewing in Fortnite and thanks to Epic Games, this one is really hitting home. If you remember a few months back we talked to writer Garrett Gunn about his upcoming projects which included the fabulous Warcorns: Combat Unicorns, published by Source Point Press. Well Firesiders, it looks as if Epic Games is allegedly back to it’s old ways with borrowing other people’s intellectual property and profiting off it. In a new update coming soon to Fortnite, players will be able to purchase “skins” of Unicorns outfitted with military style weapons and gear. Now if this sounds familiar it’s because that is literally the exact character design and story behind Warcorns: Combat Unicorns. To make matters worse for Epic Games, the advertising presented to the public looks like panels straight out of Gunn’s comic book.

There is really only one story that deserves the spotlight, and thats moarning and celebrating Chadwick Bosman who sadly passed away at the age of 43. When Black Panther first came out we had Ismail Amir on the show (who hosted a podcast at the time about Black Culture, especially in Philly) to talk, not only about the Comic side of the movie, but also its cultural relevance. Today Amir joins Mendte, Maurer, and Features again to help celebrate the life and achievements of Chadwick; from his performances, to his charitable work, to who he was as a person, how he saw the world, and how he influenced it. Greetings and Salutations Firesiders. We have had tons of great memories over the past year. We wanted to share our favorites with all of the Firesiders old and new. This was like choosing a favorite child for some of the crew, so sit back and check out what we think is the best of 2018.

Thanksgiving is over dear Firesiders, but that doesn’t mean we can’t tell you what we are thankful for. As we all slowly gain any semblance of normalcy after our turkey hangover, let Mendte, Maurer, and Features tell you what they are thankful for this year in comics. We may complain from time to time on this show, but now is the time to look at the positives of the comic industry in 2018. The guys primarily focus their thanks on comics, movies, and TV. I know we are all still sad over the loss of one of the most influential figures in comics. Stan Lee helped shape a lot of us into who we are and what we’ve become. He’s shown us countless times right and wrong, good and evil, through both his work and life. Stan Lee will be sorely missed, but let’s not wallow in our grief. Let’s instead do our best to celebrate the incredible life of our Generalissimo. We should all be so luck to not only see the age of 95, but change the world on our way. Stan is an inspiration to us here at Fireside, and today we celebrate the awesomeness that is Stanley Martin Lieber. Celebrate with us. Welcome to Fireside!
Fireside Faithful. We lost our “generalissimo” this week. Stan “The Man” Lee joined his beloved Joanie on Monday and that is the only news that matters to us right now. Mendte, Mr. Maurer, P. Features, and Baby Huey try to hold it together long enough to remember Stan. For many of us Stan created our favorite heroes, a universe for them to play in, an escape for us to lose ourself, and a community for us to belong. Stan fought for diversity, equality, and inclusion. But he did so with a smile on his face and a welcoming heart. Without Stan there would be no Fireside. Without Stan we are not even sure who we would be as individuals. So thank you Stan. Goodbye from Fireside.
