1st in a series about being a minster of the Gospel. Our main text is Matthew 4:1-25. Observing the master at what He did and how He did it we can glean a great foundation for our ministries whatever they might be. We can see in both His character and His methodology that we can follow suit. If you add the Holy Spirit to this equation it can only spell ministry success. We start at the baptism of Jesus, the temptation in the wilderness, covering His preaching, teaching & healing ministry before ending up at how to handle people.

Like two wings of an airplane needed for flight is the combination of speech and lifestyle in our public witness for Jesus. Walk the walk but at some point you will have to open your mouth in forthright verbal communication of the Gospel. We take a look at Acts 8:30-35 as Philip the Evangelist preaches Jesus to the Ethiopian Eunuch. Our mandate is to use the Bible for our methodology and tactics as we are ambassadors for Christ.
Based on Proverbs 10:19 Exhorting people to keep the chit chat to a minimum when out witnessing between the team members. There is the desire for fellowship and we don’t want to be heavy handed but we are out there laboring for the Lord and too much unnecessary conversation is a hindrance. Also useful reminders when witnessing one-on-one to beware of nervous chatter or laughter.
A short lesson on how to deal with the cults coming to your door. Many Christians just ignore or evade them which is certainly one option. Should you let them in? What are some alternatives? Whatever way you decide remember not to be rude. 2 Tim 2:24-26
Proverbs 15:28 – The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil. I have found over the years in witnessing that it pays off to think before you speak. Take your time and be calm. On of the tricks of the enemy is to makes us rush or be compulsive. Remember we are not under any obligation to answer every question people throw at us. We see Jesus practicing this. Half the questions I get out on the streets are not really questions but the person’s statement they want to make in the form of a question. Keep alert and be ready, prayed up.
Many times the person you are witnessing to is not that interested but the person standing next to them may well be. If I can sense this happening I realize everything I say is more for the other (third) person. The Holy Spirit is in fact drawing that other person which makes them your primary target and divine appointment. I gave this lesson this title for this very reason. I share some of my experiences over the years on buses, trains, in the malls, and other public places.
After over 30 years in evangelism and working with people I have found that fear is the biggest obstacle when it comes to sharing our faith with others. The Scripture addresses this as a problem as well. In this “Sharing Moment” we will look at problem + remedy = solution.
I’m sure you remember the story of David and Goliath. Once Saul heard it was David who volunteered to fight the giant, he tried to talk him out of it to no avail. Don’t allow someone else to clothe you with “Saul’s armor” Be yourself, don’t try fitting into someone else’s gifts, or ministry. That doesn’t mean we cannot learn from someone else, including yours truly, hopefully. There was a season when it was popular, and by some, a necessity to use a stool when out street preaching. It never worked for me. I felt like people were trying to fit “Saul’s armor” on me. In turn I cannot impose my preferences on others either. We are not cookie cutter Christians. Be who God made you to be. Remember you can reach people no else can.
One of the things we want to stay away from in witnessing to the cults such as Jehovah Witnesses or the Mormons is in the area of deception. Deception on our part that is. In efforts to keep the cult member hanging around we can cross the line and project to them that we are really interested in becoming one of them. In John chapter 4 Jesus did not overwhelm the woman at the well. He didn’t come on too strong and He allowed her to draw conclusions before he revealed Himself to her as the Messiah. We can take a lesson here when we are witnessing to people not to be arrogant, condescending, or rude. Instead we are to be humble and remember a large percentage of what people will notice is not if we have all the right answers but are we meek and gentle.
In John chapter 4 we see the Samaritans believing on Jesus Christ, not only because of the woman at the well’s testimony, but because they heard Christ Himself. (John 4:39-42) We too want to make sure after we tell someone about the Lord to give them the Words of Christ. This can be in the form of a Bible or some other literature or audio. This will give them a double witness.
